The underground parking is convenient but there are never any shopping carts. Selection is good for a small urban store

Picked up some chicken tenders from the deli upon eating them found glue like plastic chunks within the meat. Very disgusting reached out to Safeway got no resolution whatsoever. It seems that this is normal at this location. Don't eat at their deli. read more

I stopped by this Safeway with a colleague since it's close to our workplace, and for us it was a quick and easy trip. We came in, found what we needed, checked out, and were back out the door without any issues. The convenience and walkability were definitely the biggest perks. That said, my colleague has told me some horror stories about the parking situation here, plus the higher prices and people loitering outside. Luckily, we walked over so we avoided the parking chaos entirely. Based on my experience alone, it was fine -- but it seems like timing and how you get here might make a big difference. read more

This one took me on an adventure that I will not forget any time soon. This review is divided into two parts-parking + shopping experience. Parking: You have to drive down into an underground parking lot. That's cool, but you had to spend a $10 minimum to get free parking. Bet-let me get my little list together and head in. Shopping Experience-the store is nicely organized and the staff is friendly. I easily found everything that I needed to get. Upon exiting the store, I asked about how to get out of the parking area without having to pay. I was told that I would need to use the barcode on the receipt to scan out of the parking garage (remember this later in my review). Parking: I made an error and followed someone exiting the parking area and they ended up going further into the parking garage instead of going up. That was my mistake. I was in an area with taped paper arrows. It honestly looked like the area that Michael Jackson danced in within the Bad video. You know the video-they were dancing/fighting. I knew I had to get out of that parking garage or I might've seen Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. Exiting the parking garage was its own thing. The exit bar is on a 45 degree incline. Hope you aren't driving a manual. I scanned the barcode on the receipt-that did not work. FYI-there is a separate receipt attachment with a barcode that needs to be scanned-not the receipt itself. Oh Safeway-what an adventure this location is. read more

Sushi and the salad bar is amazing! The staff is always upbeat and helpful. The store is very unique for its ambiance and they have made the best and most of their basement locale. You will drive right past this place if you're not looking for it. read more

Safeway - The Crunchy Party Pack. Lots to eat here! - Grocery Near Me - Arlington, Virginia

I went in here today! 8-12-24 they have a cleaned nice Starbucks, managers and people walking around to wet you and be of service. They have a cool yellow bri j road just to get to their bathroom which like where their freezer/ fridges and inventory are but it's not in your way and have a risk to fall. The different aisles are fully stocked and neatly organized, the flowers are beautiful sitting and raving with colors!! . They have items here that I couldn't find elsewhere so I'd certainly recommend this place for the customer service, and a good shopping experience for groceries or quick pickup dinner or snack. Mondays they have cheap chicken 8 pice fried or baked read more

I went in to get soda and a Frappuccino for my mom. The guy in the Starbucks took forever and I was in a rush. I ordered the food and he went straight to his phone. Once he finally started, he went back to his phone and took even longer. I ended up having to pay for parking because I took too long to get out. read more

Nice store, not too far from my hotel. Very clean, well lit and easy to navigate (no tiny aisles). There is a motorized cart for those with mobility issues, a ramp which leads to the entrance, great for (although steep, so a manual wheelchair would be hard). There is an attached parking structure (which has some level of construction going on). If you do the Safeway app some items will be nicely discounted. It appears we stumbled into a store wide buy 1/get 1 special, so we left with more than we anticipated. The prepared foods section was nice and they offer sushi, which was good for being store bought (the wasabi is the devil tho). If you are staying in the area I recommend it. read more

Think of it as a 7-11 rather than a supermarket. Prices are very frequently marked incorrectly, and when the prices are wrong, they are always to the customers' detriment. There is ether no or bad customer service. It is unusual if you get staff which is competent and customer servicer oriented. Store Manager will ignore you even when you need help. The checkout systems are frequently inputted with incorrect price information. I live across the street and try to avoid this store as best I can. My experiences there are ALWAYS negative. Other Customers in line tell me to think of this Safeway as a 7-11 convenience store to adjust my expectations. But the 7-11 stores have better customer service! Please do the community a service and close this location. read more

I do uber eats shop and pay (insta cart equivalent) as a side hustle. While I was waiting for an item confirmation as the customer who originally ordered wasn't there, so I waited for that keep in mind thats not the employees fault. However, there was one employee whose about 6'5 skinny and wears a light orange beanie working on nov 22nd around 11 am. I was in aisle 1 waiting for customer that im delivering. I was tempted to ask him something, he clearly acknowledges that im there. He never said a single word, he sees that im waiting on something. He could've atleast asked if i need some help. But since this happened multiple times. He never said a single word for assistance and I am disgusted. I mean if I get low pay, I understand. But its not that hard to say a few simple words. I work in hospitality and i am not a complicated customer even in the slightest. Just wanted to let you guys know read more

If you want to be harassed for money both outside and inside the store at the checkout aisle, by all means, shop at this Safeway.

Don't do it. Walked in and there were no carts. Asked an employee he said they don't have them, only baskets. Had to do a big shop so validated my parking and left. Turns out their validation machine didn't work. Paid $8.00 for 15 min of no shopping. Called customer service to let them know machine was broken. He said I should have turned around and come back. (Can't get thru the parking arm without paying, and about 6 cars behind me). read more

I've been meaning to update my initial review for quite some time. The store has been COMPLETELY renovated and I absolutely love, love, love it!!! New self-checkout lines make this whole process way easier. Love the wide lanes, the super-modern look and the selection is great. No longer feels like walking into a dungeon. read more

Without a doubt, one of the worst managed Safeway stores in the area. Today at 6:30 pm only one register was opened with an employee. Manager was not visable. It is true that the prices posted are often not what you pay at the register. Safeway needs to do a top to bottom examination and make their own independent observations. I soke with 3 customers tonight anb each of them had very negative things to say about their experiences at this paricular location. read more

After shopping here, I thought that the reviews were far too harsh. When I was there, the shelves were well stocked, the meat and produce looked fresh, the store was clean, the prices with their reward card were good (99 cents for a green pepper, Thomas English muffins 2/$5, and Jif Peanut butter $2.99), and the cashier was very nice. This store also had a Starbucks in it. Overall, I thought that it was much nicer than the former Safeway in the Watergate. Is the entrance difficult to find? Yes. Is it Whole Foods or Trader Joe's? No, but it doesn't pretend to be. For people who need a grocery store that is close to Metro where they sell Jif Peanut Butter or plain yellow mustard, this is a fine place to shop. It is uphill from the Rosslyn Metro, but Metro is downhill when you are carrying your groceries. read more

All in all, this is a middling experience. 1) The safeway is sort of tucked into the side of a building, so it carries a dark and dingy vibe. A lot of the aisles are obstructed by support pillars so navigating it can be a bit of an expedition. Often, products are placed kind of behind these pillars making it difficult to access that shelf space. 2) often has lines here 3) selection is a bit weaker than other area safeways, in my experience - i've often not been able to find what i need and wind up going to target or ordering online instead. 3) fresh section is severely lacking - hope they do more with it after the remodel 4) it's nice that they have a convenient parking lot though - don't forget to validate read more

The key to shopping at this Safeway successfully is to adhere to the Three S's of successful grocery shopping: strategy, sales, and stealth. Without the Three S's of successful grocery shopping, you have committed yourself to failure. The prices at this store are not that great--for most items, you can go to the nearby Trader Joe's and pay less for better quality. You could probably go to the Whole Foods up the street as well--now that their prices aren't as abhorrently offensive as they used to be--and pay similar amounts for better quality. On the flip side, what this Safeway has going for it for people who live near Rosslyn is convenience. I normally stick to buying mainly produce here--at least the items that look good (it's easy to find some absolute trash in this store's produce section). The meats are questionable and often overpriced--although there have been good sales on plump and tender shrimps recently. And on salmon fillets--I survived more than a week since eating one of the $3.50/lb. salmon fillets, although mercury poisoning might hit me further down the road. The pricing of some of the dairy items is offensive. Treat yourself with some degree of decency and walk across the street to Target to buy items like eggs, yogurt, and milk (unless you find a sale, of course). I don't use aesthetics as a factor in evaluating the quality of supermarkets, but in this case it is worth pointing out the defining characteristic of this Safeway's physical appearance. It clearly used to be a prison. The store is entirely underground. If you choose to shop at this store, remember: Strategy + Sales + Stealth = Success. read more

One word - Terrible Parking is a nightmare, very uncomfortable, nothing new for this area. The staff is extremely rude ,doesn't help you with anything Always long lines, almost all the time they only have one cashier available, during lunch maybe 2 but doesn't matter because they are extremely slow. Is very small and is very weird to find a fresh product. They have one Starbucks and one cafeteria. Frozen selection is normal. Don't buy any vegetables, lettuce is always bad!! Dont come here only if is an emergency. read more

Some staff are friendly (and others are grumpy; it's a hit or miss), but this underground Safeway is a sad place. Dimly lit, dirty, and always long lines at check out because they do not have self check out and are always understaffed (on a busy day they may have 2-3 lanes open and let many other lanes simply sit empty). Their produce is not fresh (they'd go back in a few days after you bring it home). The only positive is its convenient location. They have garage parking attached to the supermarket. They have a small prepared food (hot food) area. They have a small pharmacy, and a small Starbucks inside. This place has so much potential if better managed, and if they do better maintenance and keep it clean. read more

In what universe do grocery stores still not have self check-out? Is this real? Why do I have to wait in line and interact with humans to buy my single jar of mayonnaise? Is it 1995? Other than that, avoid the occasional drunk people sleeping in the parking garage and you should be fine, I guess. It's a depressing store, but it's acceptable if you need to grab one or two insignificant things and aren't in a hurry. read more

This place only gets one star because yelp doesn't allow a zero-star review. I'm a big fan of Safeway stores in general - the Georgetown location on Wisconsin Ave is gorgeous, clean, and well-stocked, and the chain offers good deals for members (and it's easy to become one). But this place was out. Of. Control. Dirty, crowded, and dark. The shelves were stocked with multiple items that were months past the expiration date- specifically butter and cheese, which according to the staff, are in two different departments (see photos). And it was the same case last week. The staff was friendly enough when I notified them, but this was a conversation that shouldn't have happened. Go anywhere else. The Target across the street is bright and offers a good selection, despite being small for a Target. read more

Safeway - 32oz bag of kale - Grocery Near Me - Arlington, Virginia

The store is small and disorganized, the produce section is especially awful, and employees are rude and unprofessional (they once complained to me while I was checking out about the previous customer not making enough small talk, not joking around, they were actually complaining). Their mandatory "reward card" seems to double prices if you forget it and they can never find it by your phone number, which makes for a long wait as customers who forget it have to sign up in the line or pay a LOT more money. The ONLY good thing about this place is that it's the only store in the area. If you have a choice go to ANY other store and avoid this place at all costs. read more

Well, since the Safeway closed in the Watergate, I decided to travel over one stop from Foggy Bottom to Rosslyn to try this one out. Bad decision. I should have just stayed with the Whole Foods (even if that meant paying a ton more). I completely agree with the other reviewers when they state that this spot needs to be gutted and renovated. It's hardly visible from the street, and the entrance is almost below street-level inside a parking garage. It seems like most of the store is below ground as well. The isles are pretty tight and there isn't much room to maneuver if you have one of the (very few) carts there. Also, the cashier area doesn't offer much room for customers waiting to check out. It also appears that 95% of the cashier lines are "express" (i.e. 15 items or less), yet there are fewer than half of them staffed at any given time. It's hard to find workers to ask questions or a flyer to see the sales. I just hope that it will get a good cleaning and make-over in the future. While it does offer a decent value (offers coupons and the prices are more competitive than Whole Foods), it is not a super pleasant shopping experience. read more

This is my favorite grocery store in the area. It's never too crowded and they stock all of my favorite brands and products. The staff here are very nice, and their wine guy is great! He gave me a mini wine lesson one day, which was much appreciated! Within walking distance of two metros is a plus too. read more

Literally, the worst Safeway I've been to...ever. First, it's confusing to get there with all the side streets in Rosslyn. Once inside, the layout doesn't make logical sense and it's dirty and poorly lit. The check out line was irrationally long and the cashier just odd. Never going back here. Drive west and go to Trader Joe's or Whole Foods. read more

I've had nothing but great and positive interactions with employees with every shopping experience. They have a small parking garage that you do have to pay for unless you get your ticket validated by an employee who works there (normally the employee that stands in front of the self checkout). This store is bigger than it looks! Fresh produce, a deli, bakery, etc. They have had everything in stock every time I visit and I've found some great items to try. They also have a little Starbucks in there, which makes it convenient if you want Starbucks coffee. read more

Convienent location with decent prices, but the employees do not care about the needs of the customers. It seems that the employees only care about their conversations with one another or are in their own world. Store also needs to pay more attention to its cleanliness. The place is very dim and needs renovations. Update on review: On 12/14/18 at around 7:00pm, I had a terrible experience with a deli associate. I waited for a deli associate for 5 minutes then went to the cashier to ask for assistance. I had to wait for another 2 minutes before he arrived. The associate gave me attitude when I stated I was waiting here for 5 minutes. He replied, "No you haven't." When I asked for his name, he looked at his shirt, with no name tag on, rolled his eyes and walked away. I reported this to management (keys on the shift since the store manager was not there) & the associate was 10 feet behind me listening in to what I was saying. Before management came to speak to me, the associate ran to the back to explain his side. I have tried several attempts to reach the store director and have not gotten in contact with him yet. I will never report to this store again. I have given it three chances over the last few months. Three strikes and you are out. read more

Only ever came here once and that was enough. I have to agree with everyone here who is unhappy about the extremely long lines and apparent lack of appropriate staffing. Sure, free parking with store validation is nice, and although the shop is more cramped than other Safeway locations, it looked like I could get most everything I needed, but that wait in line was unacceptable to me. Never going back. The only saving grace was the staff at checkout. Sure, he was not the fastest ever, but he was careful, organised, and friendly. read more

Not the best by far. The prices are higher unless you buy only things on sale. If it's not on sale, you might as well go up the road to Whole Foods where you'll get better quality for the same price. The staff isn't the nicest or most helpful. I've been a bunch of times, and they're cold a best. Like talking to them is a bother and they have better things to do than their jobs. They don't accept Apple Pay. The coin star and some other outside service machine are broken. read more

This place gets the job done bc I live in Rosslyn so I can walk there. But I am always disappointed. It is underground and has a very grimy look to it. The produce isn't as fresh as what you can find up the street at Harris teeter or Trader Joes. The only times I visit this location are if I need things that are prepackaged and can't be screwed up. Detergent, soda, beer, wine, toilet paper, microwave foods, etc. I have seen expired milk many times, as well as meat that has passed it's expiration date. When checking out, make sure you pay attention to what is being charged. Quite often I have been overcharged. One good thing about this location is the parking. There is always ample parking, which u must validate at checkout. Bottom line, this place serves ur needs as a grocery store, but I would rather go to the other options around town. read more

The main issue with this Safeway location is the gas leak along the sidewalk on the block on which this store is located. I called in the gas leak back in December. Washington Gas showed up within a few hours and confirmed that there really is a problem. Since then they've come back a few times and run some diagnostic procedures - but have no tangible progress. I tried to talk to a Safeway manager about the problem - and he said it was none of their business. Not a good neighbor at all. The business right on top of the gas leak would have more standing than a single tenant living two blocks away. Come on, Safeway. Be a good neighbor and help get this gas leak repaired! read more

I don't think I've ever been so underwhelmed by a Safeway before. If you're looking for frozen pizza or ice cream, then you're in luck because this Safeway carries PLENTY of flavors. But looking for fresh produce, or nuts, or even potato salad behind the deli counter that doesn't have a shiny, congealed appearance from sitting out for too long? Then I definitely would not recommend stopping in. The line was terribly long and slow (as a lot of reviews have mentioned) but I wonder how much of that isn't from the cashiers...but can be attributed to the mysterious sticky substance that lines a lot of the aisle ways & slows everything to a halt . Bottom line: I'll suck up the extra twenty minute commute that it takes to get to the nearest Giant if it means that I can avoid this store. read more

Not exactly my favorite or preferred grocery store but I come here often enough due to its convenient location when I need some pantry essentials fast. Don't expect much from their produce and meat aisle though. The veggies/fruits here are not very fresh. I've seen packs of grape tomatoes here that are already rotting (except one box...). Extra star for the always friendly and helpful cashiers/workers. They validate parking as well but no need for a validated ticket late nights and weekends since the garage gates are just open. There's also a small cafe with hot food (again don't expect Whole Foods cafe selections) and a Starbucks inside. read more
