One of the best grocery stores around the Arlington/Ballston Va area. This grocery store is huge, super clean, always well-stocked with fresh products, consumer goods and quality meats. Never have I come here and the store is poorly stocked or not well-organized. This Harris Teeter also offers a huge selection of nutritional supplements and unique household items that you would have to go elsewhere to find such as a local Target, Walmart or Vitamin Shoppe store.... All under one roof! The deli, bakery and hot food bar sections are quite impressive with lots of items and goods to choose from. There are weekly meal and lunch deals offered as well....all starting around $5 bucks! But, to my surprise...one of the highlights that stood out the most is that this place conveniently has a full bar upstairs! There is a modern bar and wine shop upstairs with both offering a great selection of libation and beverages to purchase. It offers weekly happy hour specials and every day $3 dollar pints. I mean, who knew!? How many grocery stores that you patron can you say have a bar or this type of offering? In all, this Harris Teeter store location is quite impressive. The sales are great, staff are helpful and there's convenient parking on the premises of the store. The only downside I would say about this store is that the layout can be a bit overwhelming to navigate. The store is very well organized, but you do feel like you're in a bit of a maze with so many aisles to maneuver in order to find items. And God forbid., you forgot one item once you're at the cashier checkout -- that's located in the back of the store..... You will definitely have bit of a stretch to go back and get the item given the size of the store! Lol. Nevertheless, no big deal for me. Great, convenient location; brand new store with friendly staff and brightly lit, organized aisles. Christmas trees and decors are up already. However, their hot bar and Asian bar are elusive. Never available! It is frustrating. Came several times and finally got the cryptic answer from a kind staff (which could have been posted): week days only 11-1 and 5-7. Weekends are hit or miss, seems to be only 11-1 (and somehow not today, Saturday right after Thanksgiving). A supermarket's hot bar should be open the entire time! read more

Their new address is 624 N Glebe Rd. I had the Thursday Prime Rib Dinner special and it was awesome. Although the sign says they will serve the steak from 4-7pm, they actually started their service at around 11:30am-ish. I called at about 11:30 to made sure they had the special. I drove from Navy Yard to the place and boy was I excited for lunch! The steak and the potatoes were awesome! The sauces were on point. It's $19.90 post tax and it's definitely one of the best office lunch I've ever grabbed! I'm coming back every Thursday! read more

I have always had a great shopping experience here. The staff are very friendly and helpful. I recently just started trying their sushi, and it is fantastic. They make sure to make it fresh every day and it truly shows. Today i tried their pre made poke bowl, it was around $13 and so incredibly filling. I loved the sauce on it and all the flavors blended so well together, i will 100% get again. It makes more a nice quick lunch when you do not have much time. I also went to the starbucks here, and my drink was probably one of the top 10 drinks from starbucks's i have ever had. I wish i would have gotten a larger size. They also do a lot of happy hour specials on the second floor which is very spacey and has a nice bar. I have yet to try happy hour but will soon. I also really enjoy that they have specials daily, for example they have $5 sushi days. I placed a pickup order here. (Keep in mind the pickup area is in the garage.) Was quick and easy and I was out in five minutes.

25 years ago when Harris Teeter opened the previous store there were many ADA/ADAAG violations and I worked with the manager to make the necessary fixes for wheelchair users. This store again opened with no compliant check out or customer service counters. All the credit card readers are too high. In spite of 4 requests to meet to discuss solutions no one has followed up. I have now placed a complaint with the Civil Rights Division of the Department of Justice. read more

This is specifically about the wine bar . I ordered the $4 red and was given a dirty glass. When I asked for a new glass, I was told "no one has ever complained about this" from a bartender who is consistently moody and unfriendly. Talking to store managers resulted in questioning me if it was a "busy" time..as if that's a reason to give out a dirty glass . The pizza that they sell here is great and affordable. I came here to purchase several grocery items to carry me through the next couple of days, but the pizza slices located near the deli caught my eye. They are absolutely huge, and still only $3.00 which would cost double the price at a pizza restaurant. I couldn't resist the temptation, and I got the margarita pizza slice that features a huge tomatoes slice in the center. The Greek pizza, and chicken ta o ski e also looked appraling. While I was in this sode, I also ordered a half piound of the thinly sliced Boars Head Honeycoat ham. There was also a pack of the onion jack caramelized cheese that I had to get. Yikes. This used to be such a great store, but service is getting worse and worse. Cashiers are increasingly rude and not willing to bag groceries, assuming you can find a cashier working. Also, I see it is not just me. I see other customers are frustrated with the same cashiers based on some recent reviews. I just witnessed one of the ruder cashiers being disrectful to another customer (not me this time). If you don't want to be aggravated, I suggest looking elsewhere. I'm not sure why the problem is not being corrected, maybe because the store is so busy and labor so tight. Therefore, management thinks customers will tolerate the increasingly deteriorating service, and they can afford to lose a few customers. They are probably right. Over the past 10-15 years, I have written customer service praising staff when they go above and beyond, and when necessary, pointing out problems. This used to be well received and promptly addressed. However, I've noticed Harris Teeter no longer responds to customer feedback either. This is another clue to me that management doesn't care. However, sooner than later, a competitor will land in the neighborhood and give customers a better service option. It is in my neighborhood, so I still go too, but if I am out elsewhere, I try to make a point to do my large shopping at a different grocery now and keep my purchases small so that I can get in and get out to avoid being hassled or insulted. TAMIKA PICKS FIGHT WITH CUSTOMER & COWORKER AT SERVICE DESK I went to the Service Desk to get a raincheck with J. helping me. J. wrote out the check for 4 items and was about to hand it over to me when Tamika snatched it out of her hands!!!! Tamika defaced my raincheck and downgraded it to 3 items. Tamika declared that the new limit according to Corporate was "3" items and as the Manager, she had the final say. Both J and I protested that rainchecks were currently being written with the 4 item limit. During this incident, there was a line behind me, with Tamika choosing to ignore the customers in her line and instead inserting herself into my transaction with J. Tamika initiated the dispute. Tamika's actions sabotaged her coworker's role and ticked me off as the customer. She used her "Manager" title to intimidate us. Tamika is a workplace bully and power tripper. Tamika weaponizes rules against customers and she actively chooses to IGNORE and DENY customers when she can. Her rules over customers approach is petty, unreasonable and damages customer relations. During a previous run-in with Tamika. Terry at the Service Desk sent me to Tamika's line for help with ringing up a raincheck. Upon arrival, Tamika told me that she decided to close her line. Ever after I told her that Terry sent me over, Tamika refused to help me and sent me away. Tamika prefers to hover over cashiers, counting money at the next register to spy on them rather than hands-on assisting customers. At the Service Desk - it's Deny, Delay, Pick Fights, and Mock Customers. Repeat. Tamika's disrespectful behaviors incite customer anger rather than promoting customer satisfaction. Tamika's actions are bad for business. Having to interact with power tripping Tamika ruins the store atmosphere and makes shopping at HT very unpleasant. I reported Tamika to HT Management but they believe that she can be "coached". Since Tamika enjoys ticking off customers, there are others out there. Customers who have been mistreated by Tamika should report her to Harris Teeter Corporate. read more

I stayed away for a while after my first negative encounter at this location. Over time, I slowly returned because it's closest to my gym and on the way to/from other errands. It was going quite well until tonight. I stopped in with a very short shopping list (just salad and unsalted butter), but I ended up picking up additional items as I was walking through the store. I didn't even bother grabbing a cart or basket when I first entered because my intentions were set on just those two items. When I finally arrived at the produce aisle, I had to walk around a maze of hand carts and dollies. Then, I had to set down my armful of goods on a shelf so I could pick up a box of salad. Before I could I even take a look at the package, a worker behind me said, "Are you leaving that there?" I was so stunned I couldn't believe I heard the question correctly, so I had to ask him, "Excuse me?!" The worker PULLED OFF HIS FACE MASK and leaned in closer to me just to repeat "Are you leaving that there?" "You mean this stuff that I plan to pay for?" I pointed to the stack of items I had not planned to pick up. He nodded yes. I should have left everything there and stormed out, but I didn't want to prove him right (and I really needed the butter and salad btw). Instead, I picked everything up and walked away, completely flustered and outraged. We had Goodbye Party and ordered 8 pizzas which was a lot to ask from this crew but they came through with some delicious pizzas for the party and would highly recommend. I went to the service line as I had a full cart of groceries, only to be rudely told by the cashier that she would not handle my recyclable bags and she insisted that I pack all the groceries. Harris Teeter is a semi-upscale supermarket chain that has high quality produce, meat, packaged goods, and prepared foods. This is a relatively smaller location. Many of the other stores have an extensive hot bar with things like chicken wings and Asian food, a stand with freshly made pizza, and other made-to-go offerings, similar to Wegmans. However, this store has no room for that, and my understanding is that it will eventually be torn down to redevelop and rebuild. You can fresh sandwiches at this store and there is an olive bar. Most staples are solid here. Let me especially highlight their store brand seltzer and sparkling water, which gives La Croix a run for its money. The sushi here is also much better than a typical Giant or Safeway. The only thing I'm reluctant to buy here is seafood. I've purchased a few items that have gone bad very quickly, making me wonder if there is some sort of supplier issue. But the meat is always okay. Manager walks away: While the store is generally nice and has a good selection I had a bad experience that speaks to why the store seems to be getting increasing bad reviews. The checkout machines are old and unreliable. I asked to speak to a manager. I visited after a trip to a nearby Giant left me still needing to fulfill my entire grocery list. Parking is spacious on two different sides. The aisles are wide and the self-checkout is efficient. They have a really nicely stocked bakery and a wide variety of ready-made meals. Organization seems pretty logical in general. The produce looked fresh and it was easy to get help at the deli and meat counters. I like HT, generally, and would definitely revisit this location if I was in the area. Nothing bad to say about the Ballston Harris Teeter. Even though it's a drive away nowadays it's honestly refreshing to come to a grocery store where you can actually walk down the aisles without getting run over by Arlingtonians who seem to have nothing but contempt for their fellow man (looking at you Whole Foods). The parking lot is spacious and pretty easy to navigate. I don't have the absolute fear of God struck into me that my car is going to get hit by a senior citizen like the Giant on 29 and Spout Run. Quality and variety of meat, vegetables, and seafood is much better than Trader Joes, though the prices obviously reflect. HT is good if you need to stock up on large quantities of chicken and pork, or buy specialty items like ribs or pork shoulder. The upstairs is pretty peaceful even on busy days. Lots of party stuff, pet food, toiletries, and wine. It's a very strange mix but you get used to it after the first time you come here. The rest of the place is pretty standard, though there are usually some good finds on the drink aisle: energy drinks, flavored tea, and protein shakes. read more

Yeah, not a fan of this Teeter. I only choose to go here if I'm desperate or because they carry a certain item that another HT doesn't carry. That was the case for my most recent visit. My first visit, since I'm new to the area, was mid '18. I had an exchange with a few "managers" who were just awfully rude. I know that's a lot of the mentality around these parts, but it just isn't necessary when I was completely respectful about the situation. I don't know what happened to this location but it's always ridiculously understaffed now. On any given weeknight the self checkout line stretches alll the way through the produce section. The normal registers get so backed up the line of carts will go into the aisles, completely blocking them. This is my primary grocery store in the area, which is saying something cause I pass at least 3-4 other ones along the way to get here. The produce quality here is pretty dang good, and they always have a ton of seafood/meat. Reason for the 3 star? The deli line. No matter what time of day you show up, or what day of the week, the deli line is absolutely disturbing. They really need to go with a ticketing system so I can go and get my produce while I wait to get my cold cuts. The women working the counter are fairly nice but they really work on "island" time, taking 15 minutes to prepare 1/2 a pound of 2 separate items. Sadly, Arlington isn't an island so when I come to shop I'm in a rush. Once I even witnessed the most awkward exchange of my life with a new deli lady and the manager. The new deli lady had no idea what I wanted, messed up the cut and when I told her no, shaved ham please, she disappeared and then started doing something else...Ok so I stood around, waiting. The manager noticed me still standing and asked me if I got my stuff which I said no. The manager proceeded to berate the woman, in a rather kind way, however the new deli lady was practically in tears and was forced to go on break. I honestly have never felt more awkward in my life. The other absolutely crappy part of this place is the traffic flow here on weekends/ the flow of how the lines for checking out are. Harris Teeter is my favorite local grocer in Arlington, VA. I find most of their pricing comparable to their lead competitor, Giant Food, and HT's produce is generally consistently higher quality. Prefer to visit them during the work week, though I want my bags packed for me, according to tradition, whether I use their store-supplied paper bags or my own reusable cloth bags. There cashiers were so disrespectful and very rude, her name is VELMA, a black lady and the other cashier for morning is the asian lady, my mom can't recall the name( she is Vietnamese or Chinese) this two are the epitome of very bad customer service, they dont have any manners, so rude and disrepectfull. They doesn't care. They are just her for their pay check. The way they talk and interact with the customer is so disrespectful. If you CAN'T do your job properly, then QUIT!!! Feeling over-ambitious, I walked to this HT from my relatively nearby hotel. Needless to say I pulled an ultimate rookie traveler move and not only left my debit card at my hotel, but was standing at the self-checkout counter with a dead cell phone and $80+ awaiting payment. After a reasonable amount of time for an unreasonable request, a manager was explained my flub and allowed me to use a charger (before purchasing) to charge my phone. With it no longer dead, I was able to quickly pay for my suspended purchases (including roses for a 7am cemetery visit the next day) due to the conveniences of technology that had been stripped from me mere moments before. TL;DR: I had a minor crisis at this HT and the crisis was averted due to emotional intelligence possessed by the staff. Sloppy/Lazy Management I was in a hurry after work this evening so I stopped by Harris Teeter for a few items. I am particularly fond of Stacy's Pita chips but I happened to notice that the HT brand pita chips were on sale for $2.99 so I went with them. I check out at the register and the chips get rung up for $6.49. I contest this with the register employee and he summons a manager who happened to be loafing near the checkout. I explain that the chips are on sale for $2.99 and the manager proceeds to walk down the salad dressing aisle for a "visual price check." Two minutes later he comes back and asks, "where did you get these?" I said "the chip aisle" (DUH!!). The register attendant begins to make some sort of excuse about the sale ending "yesterday." Instead of waiting for the manager to walk all the way over to the chip aisle for a real price check I had him simply void the item. No apology. No effort to even check the real price. Harris Teeter is overpriced enough. They don't need to mislead their shoppers with false sales. read more
