I've been taking a compounded weight loss medication prepared by this pharmacy. They deliver quickly by mail or UPS, and I have had no quality concerns after three months on the medication. The price is extremely favorable compared to name brands, enabling me to obtain a drug out of pocket that is not covered by insurance. read more

I switched from CVS to Preston's because I wanted to support a small business. Bonus points because they delivered! Unfortunately, Preston's is dishonest and unreliable, and after the last disappointment, we're looking for a new pharmacy. For the last three days, I've been told that my prescription - which, if missed, results in withdrawal - would arrive the subsequent day. Today I called three times to confirm my prescription would come today, each time a different person told me to expect it. One person actually told me it was actually out for delivery. I called again in the evening, and which point I was notified that - surprise! It's coming tomorrow. We'll see if it is coming "tomorrow" a fourth time. I'd noticed in the past I'd had to call several times because the pharmacy seems to lack a tracking system for orders and deliveries (don't even try their online portal. It doesn't work), and my husband suffered a similarly egregious delay as I have this past week. Don't switch to Preston's if you actually need to take your meds. You'll never get them. read more

My 95 yo mom fell and injured her knee and ankle, and was in a great deal of pain. She was prescribed a specialized topical cream to address her pain symptoms. I consulted with the pharmacist at the Falls Church compounding center about this medication before getting the prescription filled. The pharmacist was very helpful in describing the medications that were being combined/compounded, and how they would work to help alleviate my mom's knee and ankle pain. The medication has really helped my mom manage her discomfort allowing her to participate fully in rehab. Very satisfied, and recommend highly! read more

I don't know what has happened to Preston's, it seems to be operating without a manager. Their phone system is so bad that calls simply do not go through. I had to pick up a prescription on the 10th, that was called in on the 9th, and still had to wait. While waiting I heard their phone ringing constantly . This is a pharmacy? I asked when the phones would be fixed and was told "in about a week". The staff, once a professional team, seem to be totally disconnected with the customers. Many Arlingtonians have shopped at Prestons Pharmacy for years. But there have been changes in ownership and operation. On the Friday before Labor Day, Prestons lost a prescription that I brought in to refill. I left the bottle that morning, but when I came back in late afternoon, there was no prescription nor a record of it. During the twenty minutes before they recovered it, the pharmacist lost her composure, shouting "I don't know what's going on." When I voiced my own frustration, she became rude and warned that, if I didn't cooperate, I wouldn't get my medicine. When the store finally found it, I asked them to deliver it so I wouldn't have to wait even longer. The pharmacist answered that I could have it delivered - on Tuesday after the holiday weekend. I wrote to the store to ask for a meeting to learn what happened, get an apology, and an explanation of how they would avoid a repetition. The manager phoned me but declined to meet in person. Eventually, I received a letter apologizing for the fact that the prescription wasn't "ready," not for having lost track of it altogether. If what occurred was just a delay in filling a prescription, why would the pharmacist say "I don't know what's going on?" And the letter made no reference to the rudeness of the hapless employee. As a lawyer for DOJ for more than thirty years, I am not eager to make public complaints. But these facts are undisputed. And consumers need information to make wise choices. All drug stores offer the same products so they must compete on price and service. Prestons stresses the latter. Arlingtonians must judge for themselves whether Prestons still offers the kind of service on which it built its reputation. read more

I tried to call for 30 minutes well before 3 to try to get an anwer to a quick question. Finally there was an answer at 2:53 to tell me the store is closed. I said by you close today at 3 for a meeting, it is only 2:53. Nasty patronizing man says it may be 2:53 on your clock but we are closed, goodbye...hang up. If this is a glimpse of their customer service, no thank you. If you were really closed why just not just not answer the phone at all instead answering and being a nasty rude little prick. I had one quick question, do you have a medication in stock, that's all, could have been answered in 2 minutes. I can see why are the low reviews as of late just by the phone and the tone of the person answering. I have seen this company sold to new people and that the ratings have dropped as Preston used to be reputable customer service driven business. Bad experiences every single visit. i went three times to this pharmacy. The first time, I called two days ahead to make sure they had the medicine I needed. I was told "yes we do" over the phone. When I went in to get the prescription filled, I was told that they actually didn't have the medicine they had confirmed existed two days prior. Then I was told they had 3 days' worth, and I'd get a partial now, with the rest later. I told them that I need this medicine every month, so hopefully it would be fully stocked next time. "Yes it will." So I thanked them profusely, walked back home and redid the trek a few days later. The next month, I called ahead and explained what happened last time and was told that I'd be ok. Two days later I arrived tIo get my medicine and.....same thing. Partial fill. Another lie over the phone. But this time, the weekend intervened and I could only get my pills on Monday - which meant I went into two days of withdrawal with no medication. That was a horrible experience, and caused directly by their negligence in communication. Third time I went, even though I called again to say I needed the medicine and was told it would be there two days later on the fill date, I had to wait for them to process the order as if I had just arrived with a script. Then an Associate came out and told me "sir, we are no longer going to get this medicine for you here. You'll need to fill it at another pharmacy." At that point, I didn't even ask why not. why would I continue to go to a pharmacy with rampantly bad or false communication where I was treated like an annoyance rather than a valued customer? Some of the stuff at this location have luck experience of helping customers with their needs. I've been calling the pharmacy for the entire week and all they said they didn't receive my order via fax and they don't even bother to follow up with the doctor instead they said the doctor should send it again(the doctor did what they said anyway). I been helped by a lady named Reem - she asked my DOB 5 times in one call and not even writing the requested information to avoid asking repeatedly question in the entire call . When I went to the pharmacy, there were 2 Pharmacist on duty, but they said the order will be ready Monday because this medication takes long time to make , even I went early Friday .I asked to refill on Friday as I needed that medication. One of the pharmacists promised she will make it and I can come at 5pm to pick it up . When I came at 5:16 a guy said I was not even in the system although I went earlier there to request it , and Reem said it been filled at a different location . Why would they fill it at a different location as they know I will come there to pick it up . She filled it immediately right there after I wasn't happy with their inefficiency. Reem looked at me just like I was a difficult customer instead of them NOT being efficient and helpful to their customer. read more

Had to schedule COVID tests on behalf on my parents. The scheduling app was convenient, though the dates it offered were confusing. One day it would have limited availability on a specific date, then the next day, it would show a wide range of availability for that date. When I had to call the pharmacy, they were very friendly and understanding, and were very helpful. read more

My provider wrote me a one-month compound prescription that this pharmacy charged me more than $300 to fill - even though it was covered by my insurance. They only filled it for two-weeks' worth of medicine. When I called them, the customer service representative hung up on me when I confronted them as to why there was a discrepancy between what my provider ordered and what the pharmacy provided. They kept my money. Don't give them yours. read more

I've been patronizing this pharmacy for over 15 years because it was difficult to find a compounding lab that would accommodate my needs without any hiccups. I was pleased with the service and my compound was always good quality after trying so many pharmacy I felt like I found a home that met all my needs. Everyone was friendly and helpful. Around 2014 I started noticing that my compound seemed different. The consistency was not what I was used to to. I know different manufacturers may change the way the compound looks. So after several months I also noticed that the efficacy of my compound also wasn't giving me the results that the compound was prescribed for so I contacted the pharmacy and was told that it's probably the manufacturer changing which made no sense because that doesn't mean that the compound would not work. I decided it was time to visit them because not only was the compound not working the price also changed drastically with the co-pay. So I was concer about the price and it seemed like my compound was not working and questioned the ingredients because this is something I've used for over 20 years and I knew how it works. So when I asked about the price hike I was told at that time they no longer take my insurance. I wasn't sure that they were being truthful because my insurance company normally notifies me whenever there was a change in any of my schedule medication. So I decided to call my insurance company and was told that they were still paying for my medication. Not only that the copay was still the same. But I was being charged $50 for my compound when it was supposed to be $10 for my co-pay and this was done for over 2 years. I was livid to think that a reputable business would do this. I got a print out from my insurance showing the charges and was told to contact the courts because this was fraud. I realized that the pharmacist was always Peter Huang that was filling my prescription most of the time. So I spoke to him and he didn't deny it. He gave me a sad story about they don't really make a profit when they charge so little. I bought into his scheme and decided that I wouldn't press charges but we had to go back to my regular co-pay. Following this debacle I started noticing again that my compound was just not working at all they also transferred my prescription to another location I believe it was McClean it was still Preston but they only did compound and they don't take insurance. So here I am back paying now $60 with a compound that doesn't work. The consistency was different every month and I would call and let them know that all the years I've been using this compound I know how it works m. I decided to take the compound to another pharmacy to see if they can be let me know if there was anything missing or why was the compound not working and to my surprise I was right that the main ingredient that was the pricy one was omitted from my compound. I'm in the process of suing them. It's ridiculous that after all these years they would do this to their customers. You have to check with your insurance provider and if something seems off.... It most likely it is. I think they do this to the older patients thinking that we're not going to know. But they're sadly mistaken because I'm going to see this through. Have tried for several weeks to reach this pharmacy regarding a prescription received as the package arrived without any information about the medication and note within stated that I wanted no consultation when there was no contact between me and the Pharmacy whatsoever (the prescription was called in by my physician's office staff). Having had adverse effects to medication in the past I am not going to use any medication until I have a better understanding of effects and potential side effects. The frustration lies in the poor customer service and inability to make contact with personnel working for this business. read more

I've had a very unpleasant experience doing a PCR Covid-19 test at their merrifield location. The young lady who administered the test has requested that I "blow my nose". I started searching for tissue paper to do so. She became impatient with me. "Lower your mask and blow your nose", she kept saying. After multiple times that I told her that I don't know where I should blow my nose into, she elaborated that she meant "lower your mask BELOW your nose". Once that had been made clear, she continued to insert the swab so high up my nose that the pain was unbearable!!! I have done the Covid-19 test multiple times before (I travel for business), including at your Arlington location. Never had i received such a rude reception and NEVER had it been so violent and painful. And this at a place where i pay not an insignificant fee for the test. Very disappointing. P.s. Update. Extremely rude and disrespectful. Pharmacist Elizabeth refused service after going around and around. Tried to gaslight us telling us that basically everything is our fault and if anything happened to our dog who needs a specially compounded medicine, it would be our fault. Elizabeth lied and withheld that she was the pharmacist until 25 minutes into the discussion, and basically we were told she just didn't want to do the work, Elizabeth would not give us her bosses name, and then decided to refuse us any services. I made an appointment for Friday July 17th for COVID19, but I was on call with my job and though we rarely have calls, I just happened to be called minutes before leaving for my test. I was not done working until later Saturday night. The pharmacy is closed on Sundays, so I called them today to reschedule. I am writing this review not because they wouldn't let me reschedule but because how dispassionate and interested in my well-being the person who answered the call. I explained why I couldn't make it and if I could reschedule and her answer to my request was simply "you have to reschedule on the website" I asked if that meant that I had to pay again and she said yes. She did not ask my name to check my missed appointment. She didn't even say "sorry". I might as well have asked if the sky was blue. There was no humanity or sympathy whatsoever. Any other time, I'd chalk it up to inexperience or having a bad day and moved on, maybe even pay for a new appointment. I am a diabetic, so I'm at high risk for COVID19, that's why I paid for the blood test, not the antigen. I've not been feeling well and need to rule this virus out. People seeking testing are not trying to get their horoscope or some other nonsense. When you sell these tests, you're dealing with life and death. At least a little friendliness is expected from someone in a pharmacy. read more

I was very surprised to have an unpleasant interaction on the phone with Preston's, which I had previously held in high regard. I take a compounded prescription, and my current prescription doesn't seem right. I'm having the same reaction to it as I did when I had to stop taking it for a week. I believed that a compounding pharmacy would want to know when a compounded prescription seemed off so they could fix it. The young woman I spoke to refused to believe that there could be any problem. First she refused to let me speak to a pharmacist. Then she told me I was mistaken. Then she told me no one else had ever had an issue. Then she told me I was having a normal side effect (it might be, but it wasn't a normal side effect for me). Then she told me I should talk to my doctor (who I'm sure would say "That doesn't sound right; call the pharmacist). Then she told me if I had any refills remaining, they could refill it and I could pay for it again (my insurance doesn't cover it; I pay out of pocket and it's very expensive and I don't think I should have to pay twice to get medication that works). Then she refused to let me speak to a pharmacist again. I expected them to say "Bring it in and we'll exchange it." I wasn't expecting to get an entire prescription for free; just an even exchange - I give them X, they give me X back. I am astonished that a compounding pharmacy won't stand by the medication they compound. I'm sure that it was given to me in good faith, but when they're told it's not working as it previously had, I expect a pharmacist to be alarmed. And the pharmacist might have been, had I been allowed to speak to one, but I was only allowed to speak to the young woman who told me essentially that the problem was all my fault, whatever it was, and I could pick from the list of reasons she'd given me as to why it was my fault, but they weren't going to do anything about it. I'm still astonished by my conversation with this young woman, who was not a pharmacist. Perhaps she doesn't understand that compounded medications are held to a high standard. Perhaps she believes customers are unable to correctly gauge the effect a medication they've taken for a while will have on them. One has to gradually work up to the dose I take, so it's clear when the dose is different (and I'm not looking forward to having to work back up to my standard dose in a month). Whatever the problem was, she refused to understand that I had a legitimate issue with a compounded medication or to let me talk to anyone who would know more than her. Heard many good reviews about this place, so when I couldn't get a prescription filled at Walgreens (due to them not having it) I had it sent to Preston's. I called and the gentleman was great taking the prescription info and stated that it would be 30 after they received it and that I would receive a call when it was ready. I knew they closed at 6, called around 4, so I headed over 30 minutes early to make sure I wouldn't be keeping them late. It was not ready so we waited. It was about 8 minutes before they closed and LOUISE came out and told me I needed a separate prescription card (which in the last 6 years with my insurance no one has asked for and I have NEVER received any other card from carefirst). She proceeds to tell me I need a BIN # and I asked her if there was anyway it was on my card as this is the only card I have ever been given. So I realize I have less than 10 minutes until the pharmacy closed and when I called my insurance company the phones were closed. I couldn't figure out my login for carefirst and finally got ahold of Caremark, my mail in pharmacy. So Caremark rep finds the info and guess what it was right there on the front of the card. As the rep on the phone read off the info Louise she couldn't understand what the woman was saying, however it was on speaker and I could, so I pointed out that these are the same numbers on my card. She was rude and dismissed me and never admitted she was wrong or that she must have missed that. I'm sorry I am a nurse at the hospital across the street my significant other is a cardiologist at the same hospital which was standing there with me and witnessed the entire thing. With this kind of service how could we ever recommend someone fill a prescription at this pharmacy knowing how she just treated me in a time of need (mind you I have just left the ER w/pericarditis which is extremely painful and this was what I needed for pain which was not even a pain medication it's actually normally prescribed for gout) . I never right reviews however this is uncalled for and we have to treat people better than this. I have attached a pic of my card showing the BIN # she said I didn't have. I waited to write this until I calmed down and verified that I did not cause this woman to be so disrespectful. I hope that this does not happen to anyone else read more

Knowledgeable, friendly staff that remember you. Love the pharmacy staff because they always take the time to answer all my questions. Everything is always on time. They also do COVID testing which I have gotten tests from them for rapid results and traveling. They don't require symptoms or a doctors note which is great since many places do. I also love spending time looking through their little gift shop section, especially around the holidays. I have a been a customer/patient of Preston's for over a year. I didn't have a lot of options for compounding pharmacies in Arlington. Staying local is important for me, but it quickly became obvious that Preston's is poorly run. I have often waited for my prescription, sometimes days. The back counter is always chaotic and not particularly friendly. Plenty of staff but a lack of expertise. The first question is always "have you been helped". I watched 7 people wait for over 30 minutes for their order while I waited for an hour for a prescription I was notified was ready. I counted at least 8 different people working and nobody got their medication in a timely manner. The technology is antiquated, their filing system is a mess, and the staff is disorganized. While I waited for my prescription, that I was told would be ready, I overheard the staff listening to doctors calls for prescriptions. I could hear personal details including full names and medications from Doctors. Unprofessional at best, hopefully your neighbors don't hear about your viagra or ozempic. When I had an issue with the way my order was handled I was told that the "PIC" couldn't call me until 3 days later. Apparently he was on vacation. I assume that PIC means Pharmacist In Charge, so don't expect to resolve issues quickly. When I did reach the "PIC" they blamed my insurance company for increasing cost. Unfortunately for him, I spoke with insurance and the cost increase was associated with costs that Preston's passed along to me, after they reduced the quantity without consulting my medical professional or myself and raised the cost. It's sad to see independent pharmacies struggle but their incompetence seems to be largely self-inflicted. I would note that they do have a lovely card selection. I wouldn't use Preston's to get my dog's medications. I care about my dog too much. read more

Some of their staff don't respect the LGBT community. The receptionist (young male) repeatedly misgendered me over the phone when I picked up my HRT. I have stopped using this pharmacy as a result. They need to hire people who are able to give patients basic respect. Judging from others' reviews, this experience is not unique to me. Preston's seems like an easy way to get a COVID test. It is easy but it is NOT accurate. My husband, daughter and I had similar COVID symptoms. We went to Preston's where the technician stuck a swab for 2 seconds in one nostril. My husband got a positive result and my daughter and I received negative results. We paid extra for fast results and because it did not make sense My daughter and I went to a different location to get retested the next day and at this location the technician put the swab in both nostrils and counted to 10 during the swab in each nostril. Lo and behold we both tested positive. The technician at Preston's needs to get some training on COVID testing. Do not go to Preston's for COVID testing. read more
