Also the wine section has a few half-bottles (or bottles that are smaller than the standard bottle) which allows for more responsible intake. Prices are reasonable. Also dig the cheese/charcuterie section and the pre-made sandwich/salad station. Not much to say otherwise. An average supermarket that has stood the test of time by being ok. read more

I came in to purchase a couple of grocery items for my apartment like milk, cheese, and honey roasted peanuts. I also attempted to purchase the chicken Caesar wrap combo. The combo promotion in ludea the chicken wrap, a bag of chips, and a Coke product for $9.00. When I had attempted to pay for the combo meal (and other stuff that I got) at the self serve checkout, the combo price would not ring up correctly. One of the employees who was helping other customers had tried to help me as well, by voiding the transaction and starting over. We tried 3 different times while h were all unsuccessful. I was then directed to bring my stuff and march over to the customer service desk, where the transaction was attempted again. Alysse took over at that point and stated that the problem had to with the wrong type of chips that were part of the combo. She instructured me to walk all the way back to the other end of the store to select a different brand of chips, that would qualify for the discounted combo price. She proceeded to scorn me and tell me that I should have selected the correct chips to begin with. I told here that the original chips that I had picked up were right next to the qualifying chips. Alysse continued to belittle me and although as she stated "doesn't work in that department" the correct type of chips should have been ovious to me, since I am just the customer of course. I did not appreciate any of he presentation, unhelpfulattitude, or the way that she was talking to me. Dominion Tire 3237 Wilson Boulevard Arlington VA 22201 I only see and drive my Shelby GT 350 on weekends. On my way to a Saturday morning appointment, I started the engine and the electronic system alerted me to a completely flat tire (right rear). I used an electric pump to inflate the tire and drove to Dominion Tire (Arlington). The technician examined the tire and discovered an embedded nail. He removed the tire and repaired it while the car was still parked outside in the rain. The car was ready in short order. He handed me the keys and wished me a great day. "How much do I owe?" "Nothing." I was delightfully surprised. "You bought the tires here. We offer free balancing, rotating, and repair for life." A beautiful ending to an unfortunate beginning. This Giant hires a predatory towing company to victimize their customers! They watched me park my car then stole it within 5 minutes, EVEN THOUGH I WAS SHOPPING AT THE PLACE THEY STOLE MY CAR FROM! The picture shows my receipts with a tow time of 2:02, and my shopping checkout time of 2:07 (which means I was in the store shopping while being towed for not shopping there). When I tried to get the address they hung up on me. Also gave me attitude when I said I was actually shopping there and only stepped out of the parking lot for less than 5 minutes - like I was the one being unreasonable for even asking. They also wouldn't return my car or let me pay a drop fee even though it hadn't got to their tow yard yet before I called. When I got there it was a dingy, depressing, unpaved dirt lot filled with pot holes and destroyed cars, with a rude desk clerk who said I couldn't have my car after I ALREADY PAID TO RELEASE IT because she needed to wait until a driver returned to move a car with flat tires double parked behind me (obviously to block me in). I grabbed my keys and receipt and took MY vehicle while she yelled obscenities at me. Review specifically for Aicha at Bakery. : When Aicha works the bakery counter, I buy cannolis! Aicha is a skilled bakery employee who offers terrific customer service and knows the bakery products. She makes great cannolis. She is cheerful, patient, friendly and has a great service attitude. Aicha is an excellent bakery employee who goes above and beyonds to help you get your sweet tooth fix. The only downside is that she works only twice a week and when shes's not there, there is no one behind to counter to help customers. Aicha is an asset to Giant and represents Giant well. read more

Other than the Helter Skelter parking lot and the poorly placed shopping carts which get in the way of people going in and coming out, the store has what I need. The signage could be a little better . They used to have a salad bar -- now they don't but I don't care because once I had to complain about the staff stocking it while coughing into the containers. I love this store. It has a variety of healthy food aisles. I can pick up items such as brewers yeast flakes, tofu and international items without stopping at Whole Foods. The meat counter is clean and has a variety of salads. The employees are happy to let you sample items. The produce area is decent. The bakery area has fresh choices. Arlington is a supermarket paradise. All the major players are here: Whole Foods, Harris Teeter, Safeway, Trader Joe's, Mom's Organic. However my Supermarket of choice is Giant. It doesn't have a pub like Whole Foods, it doesn't have the extensive selection of specialty brands like Mom's or Trader's Joe. Instead Giant by far is the best overall value for my everyday shopping needs. When I need to get my weekly basics, I know I am not going to pay a premium like I would at HT. Also I am a big fan of the registers and check-out lanes that accept Apple Pay so I never have to take out my wallet. Also if you sign up for the Giant card you can earn points for gas discounts at Shell- not too shabby. In the end, a Supermarket is a Supermarket. If I can walk in and get everything I need and it doesn't look like a dump and the prices are all right then I am a happy camper. read more

I go to this Giant for curbside pickup every couple of weeks or so, and everyone I've crossed paths with there is super friendly and helpful. I've never had an issue with items missing (although they occasionally substitute when they're out of something) and they always bring my order out quickly. This giant has a good flow about it. The one thing I don't like is the small parking lot. Be careful when you go (rush hour/after work) because it can be hard to park. The parking lot can fill up fast and people don't always respect the parking lines. Then, once you get in you don't see that many people. Hmmm, maybe the neighborhood residents park there. It's never super crowded and the shelves are well stocked. It is a smaller store so the aisles are shorter and you might not find everything you're looking for. It can be difficult to get out of the parking lot because of the traffic on Washington Boulevard. So again I suggest going during off peak hours. read more

It's a big scam to take people money. The towed truck is just in the corner and they don't even care if you are going to shop with them. This was quite possibly the weirdest Giant ever. Definitely one of the strangest grocery stores I've ever set foot in. Yeah...ever. The layout is flat out bizarre. And I do mean BIZARRE. Crazy bizarre. It felt a little like the Twilight Zone. Especially when you added in the 50s soundtrack that was playing. Nothing made any sense and none of the aisles were in any sort of standard grocery store order. And the items in the aisles didn't always go together. We spent a lot of time wandering around trying to find things. It eventually became a joke. "Where's the Panko bread crumbs?" "Probably in the aisle with the condoms." That is literally how bizarrely this store is laid out. It was so nonsensical that it kinda became fun. Er, at least funny. And then there are the strange toys and other gadgets that line the top of every aisle. Some of them were things I had never ever seen before. Why not pick up a mini Japanese fake etch-a-sketch while shopping in the pasta sauce aisle? So crazy strange. They did have the fabulous hand scanner system, which I am a HUGE fan of. So between that and just the sheer hilarity of it all, I'll give it a 3. There were definitely a lot of items I find at other Giant locations that this particular location lacked. I'm not a fan of the Giant grocery store chain in general. Simply because I don't know where anything is and I am not aware about their products. Besides produce I really don't buy much from giant. The produce section here is lacking in winter. In summer I'm not sure. This Giant seems clean enough. They seem to have a pretty nice dessert bread and pastry section. Which is bad for me. And the layout can be confusing, with salads located in different parts of the produce aisle. But it's straightforward enough and easy to navigate. Prices aren't too bad. I mean, I'm not the best person to evaluate supermarkets here let's be honest. I'm coming from NYC where supermarkets are a hot mess. Overpriced and crowded. My biggest complaint about this store was just how crowded it was on a Saturday in the early afternoon. The aisles are not that wide so it was difficult to maneuver through with a regular sized cart. I was disappointed they didn't have more caramel apple pie yogurt or mashed sweet potato and carrots Like my preferred Giant. They did have a pretty nice bakery and prepared foods selection. They definitely need more of the self-checkout lines that don't have a conveyor belt. It's so inconvenient to not have the bag right next to the scanner especially when there is no staff to help bag. Parking is very tight too, but, luckily I got one of the last spots available. I chose this location because it was too close to pass up. Unfortunately I found their protein options lacking so I had to supplement by going to Harris Teeter which cost me a lot in time. A prefect mix of cleanliness and technology. Sure, there are some items I can't get here, but that's what specialty stores are for, but for meeting my weekly needs and exceeding my technology fix, this store is great. The selection and prices are very good, fresh fruits and veg, clean store, things are easy to find and they have some really cool new technology. I must admit I am not someone who enjoys going food shopping unless it is for a special meal or to prepare a certain dish, but this Giant has piqued my interest by introducing a new scan as you shop technology. As soon as you enter the naturally lit store in it's newly renovated produce section there is a kiosk with plastic scanners, you swipe your card and instantly one illuminates allowing you to scan you items and bag them as you shop. It's like laser tag but against your food. I must admit when I scan steaks and chicken I fee like I am hunting my dinner. Once you scan your items, you are ready to roll, you simply place your scanner in a holder at the register and swipe your credit card, then good to go, checkout is a breeze and shopping is fun! Also Andre in produce really knows his stuff and is always willing to rip open a fruit or veg and give you a sample. A malfunctioning self check-out machine debited my card 2x for a single purchase. With employee assistance and advice, we ran my card through 2x since the machine froze, but no completion of purchase was indicated, so my order remained open. Therefore, I said I'd switch to my credit card and did. That charge went through, but unbeknownst to me OR the store employee, I was also debited 2x. She'd asked me to run my card a 3rd time, blaming it on the machine, which was obviously not functioning. Good thing I did not. So, today I'm wasting my valuable time trying to be reimbursed. How many things are wrong with this picture? I think Giant is a run-of-the-mill grocery store. I mean it's not the place to come to if you want higher quality items that you might find at Whole Foods or Wegmans. I think it may be slightly cheaper than Harris Teeter. Honestly, I come here to do quick shopping or to restock something in my pantry. They have this wall of handheld scanning devices at the front of the store where you can scan the items as you shop throughout the store. However, it just sits there and collects dust. I don't see anyone using it. What's the point of even having it, if it's not even being used or advertised to customers as an option to avoid waiting in line, which are pretty backed up all the time. They typically have the self-checkout section going on all 6 machines, but only have 1-2 registers open with people. I mean really... let's open some more up in order to get people going and on their way. Anyway, this place is what it is. The best supermarket in the world, no maybe not - but does it beat that cruddy Safeway - YES, TARGET - yes. Whole Foods prices -YES. The staff is actually friendly and HELPFUL! An average grocery store in my mind, except for one thing. They sell regular (Low Moisture, Part-Skim) Polly-O String Cheese here! This might sound insane, but I check for it at every grocery store I venture into, and most don't sell it. Regardless of what you might think, all strings of cheese were not created equal. The only other place I find it on a regular basis is Costco, and for just me, that zillion-count box seems just a little excessive. And don't try to message me and suggest a grocery store unless you're certain they have it, because I BET you'll send me to a grocery where they sell that terrible 2% Polly-O, or worse yet, a different brand altogether. I tend to give the grocery stores I visit nicknames. The two I frequent the most are Sketchy Safeway (Rosslyn) and Shitty Safeway (Watergate). Last night we were making cookies at 11:30 when we came to the realization that we had no flour. Sketchy Safeway closes at 10 so what were we to do? Solution: Zipcar to the 24 hour Giant. As we pulled into the parking lot I immediately thought, "Perhaps 'Ghetto Giant' or 'Gross Giant'" but once I entered I knew it would have to be more along the lines of 'Great Ginormous Giant!' The store was MASSIVE compared to the crap I usually have to go to. My roommate and I stared around in wonder at the large aisles, the amazing selection and the organization. All these one and two stars reviews are from people who must never have entered Sketchy/Shitty Safeway. They would know that this is like a Mecca for those of us stuck to small stores that are within walking distance. Are there other potentially better grocery stores? Sure. Is it reasonable that I will ever get to go to them? More than likely not. Because of that Great Ginormous Giant is going to be at the top of my preferred store list for a while. read more

Clearly, this Giant is an older store, and they've finally gotten around to making some much needed renovations. Okay, so it sucks that everything's totally rearranged, but they're clearly going after the Harris Teeter shopper, specifically by getting rid of a lot of the products they've carried over the years that just weren't selling, and tightening up their selection to carry more of what shoppers seem to want. For the most part, it appears to be working, but the beer and wine selection seems to have actually gotten smaller. Oh, and there's still no meat counter, and the selection is rather quixotic. See a specific cut of meat you like but think you'll just come tomorrow to get it? Don't. Get it now, 'cause chances are good they'll be out of it the next day. Ethnic selection is very poor. the salad bar is very disgusting with low quality (compared to whole foods) and the soups are heavy cream filled and boring to say the least. the self checkout using the barcode scanner is unique but there is no way to weigh produce. this leaves you confused as to what was scanned. the coupon that pops up based on past purchases does not relate to anything i will buy. this is poor design again, the coupons should excite me to spend dollars on what i would be likely to buy to increase my spend each visit another note on the self checkout, the scanner forces you to put items in the bagging area and there are only 2 bags to fill. this always causes scanning errors. the small details in life matter always. verdict: average, convenient and can improve read more

Being my neighborhood grocery store, I've been to this particular Giant Food countless number of times. I would say three stars is the average I would give it over the three-plus years I've been going there. It's not a great grocery store, but it's still not as bad as most of the Safeways I've been to in DC. I enjoy their good selection, the wine and beer section, the fresh cheeses and their long hours. For the most part, the cashiers are friendly and not slow. When you're a regular, you learn which cashiers are slow and you just avoid them. My biggest pet peeve with Giant is depending on what day of the week you go grocery shopping, you might find they have run out of certain items. Sometimes the milk will have expiration dates within a few days, which I find frustrating. Currently, this Giant location is going through a remodeling process. I gather from what I've seen so far that they are rearranging some of the aisles and creating more room in the store. I'm all for improving the store, but they were doing remodeling work while the store was open. I remember one night about a month ago I went to go pick up a few things and the constant banging was unreal. Some workers were banging something into the floor. Doesn't the store manager realize that loud banging doesn't create a comfortable shopping experience? I went to this Giant yesterday and it seems the remodeling is winding down and hopefully will be finished soon. I do have to hand it to Giant for offering good deals through the use of the Bonus Card. I think this is the big reason why this Giant remains popular.
