Customer service person was rude and clearly annoyed at helping me. At payment she repeatedly demanded I put my card in while she could obviously see I couldn't figure out where to do that. I have been a Harris Teeter ExpressLane shopper at this location for more than a year. The staff and service at this location have made me a permanent convert to curbside pickup. Why? Because the experience here is so much easier and more consistent than the online/curbside experience at Safeway, Giant, Whole Foods, or Instacart. The HT website is the best in this class, with a generally accurate search function, accurate photos, accurate prices, accurate sale price information, the ability to leave detailed requests and instructions, and plenty of available pickup times. The staff always calls before finalizing an order, and is always flexible and friendly about adjustments or special requests. The pickup area is sheltered under cover from bad weather, and the staff down there is always pleasant. So why not 5 stars? I docked one star because I've repeatedly had disappointments from the seafood counter. When you order online, you're putting faith in the fish expert to pick out something fresh -- not to dump the rotting dregs on the customer who's not there to pick out his own fish. Sometimes what I get is amazing and beautiful, but every few weeks I get something that should have been thrown out rather than sold. I can always request a refund, and I do, and they are good about it, but you know what would be better? Throwing it out when it's questionable and only selling fresh seafood. read more

Do not count on being able to place an advance order with the Meat Dept and have it honored. I placed an order with "Patrick" a few days in advance thinking that I was avoiding any problems for a holiday weekend. He took down the information and assured me that 1) it would be ready when requested and 2) he would be there that day so I could ask for him. Neither promise was kept. Very poor produce selection unless you find something while it's being stocked. Produce is often old and / or poorly stored before stocking in cooler cases. For example, English cucumbers were partially frozen and had a crystallized / granular consistency. When I returned it and went to get a replacement, I found all of them in a similar condition. Greens such as herbs are frequently old and stacked up while wilting away. The store wastes a lot of produce. The fish counter is often disgusting and visually unappealing. read more

I love this Harris Teeter. The employees and managers have great customer service skills and come by to help me with my purchases. I drive here after getting horrible customer service at the Harris Teeter on Glebe Road where they won't take coupons or issue rain checks. The customers on next door recommended that I come to Lee Harrison because it has the best customer service and incredible stock. I really like the professional service I receive from the Seafood Department. The cashiers are friendly and helpful. I come to this store two to three times a month and the cashiers and managers recognize me and greet me! I've shopped at Glebe Road for over 10 years and no one recognizes me there and the cashier turnover is high. There is low turnover with the cashiers and managers here and whoever hires the employees is doing a great job! Just wish this store was within walking distance. read more

HT used to be at the top of its class, with nicer stores, better produce, more brands and better service. This store was head and shoulders above the Safeway across the street or the Giant down Lee Highway. And while it's prepared foods section is better than nearby competitors, just about everything else about it has fallen off over the past 3 years, including lines at the checkout. Which have been painful lately. I know that it is hard finding labor these days but my recommendation would be to bite the bullet and pay a little more in wages. The people I was around at checkout were griping that it was taking forever, which it was, and neither cashier was moving very quickly. Part of the reason shoppers pay a premium at HT is for a more pleasant and efficient experience. Without that I might as well spend the same time and less money and pull into the Safeway parking lot. read more

Chronically understaffed and HT branded products spoil very quickly - milk is often turning sour and clumpy way before the expiry date. They're investing in a large new building in Ballston but I'd honestly rather have them invest in higher quality produce - I stopped buying oranges because every single one was spoiled or over ripe. read more

The Harris Teeter in Reston is the close by and I like the convenience of not having to empty my cart. However, I have a problem with the chain's culture. First I noticed that if you buy stamps you are charged a convenience fee. I would think that Harris Teeter would provide this service as a service to its customers and not add a fee. Secondly, recently I asked a cashier to change a twenty dollar bill. He said he was not allowed to provide that service. He did not suggest that I go to the customer service desk but that is what I did and was able to break the $20 bill . I asked why the cashier could not do so and was told that there were too many shortages. Again, it seems that Harris Teeter is not sensitive to the needs of its customers. read more

This happens to be one of those go to places where they've simply got it together. Seafood department saved our holiday party as the Wegmans party platter we ordered was not acceptable and these guys had a same day order for us ready in a flash even with a potential miscommunication on our end. While waiting for it to be ready the shopping experience was also great. Several times we found ourselves looking for items and at every turn there was another helpful staff member ready to direct us. Between the super fresh seafood and largest jumbo shrimp we've seen in a while and the $5 special for 10 avocados we were very pleased the quality of the food and the experience there. Years ago during our last visit here it looked like it could use a serious remodel and it looks like that task has been slayed as well. Windy, cold, or rainy day? Simply slide around the right side of the building and enter through the underground garage that has elevators to take you right up without the need to touch that wet umbrella or rain jacket. Did I mention they also have free Level 2 EV charging? Get juiced up while picking up some juice!! Be careful though as too much sugar could lead to diabesity so don't forget the greens and the cruciferous vegetables while you're lured to the bakery upon entrance. read more

There's a reasonably good selection of food items here. The produce is alright, but often times I have gone and they aren't properly stocked. Sometimes they go into the back and get more, sometimes they don't have any. The deli, meat, and seafood counters are great. Normally very friendly and responsive employees, with a quality selection. The store is arranged a little weird in my opinion. The deli, bakery, seafood, meats, dairy, all kind of wraps around the entirety of the store, then a bunch of shelved stuff in the middle, but the non-food/household items oddly in the middle. Some food items are grouped with other weird food items. A personal gripe about the parking lot and Arlingtonians inability to use it.. Sorry, HT I know this isn't your fault but people need to learn a little more about parking lot etiquette in this town. Chill out, relax... you'll find a space, or you won't. No need to disallow people from going ahead of you. You'll get to your kids' soccer game in time. read more

The reasons I shop at Harris Teeter is because of their meat selections and sometimes produce. However, it's really a chore to go there now. Some of the staff is so rude. It's really disheartening. Their prices are high and with that you also have to deal with an attitude. read more

This Harris Teeter is very impressive in regard to cleanliness, options and the hot bar. Yes, the hot bar at this location is open. My only wish is that the Harris Teeters near my home would follow this practice and start offering their hot bar again. Either way, if you have a VIC card the prices at Harris Teeter are extremely compatible. Plus you get points for discounted gas. read more

This review is for the online grocery pickup operation. My neighborhood Harris Teeter doesn't offer online orders and pickup, so I used this one. I tried this once before a few years ago, and the website was woefully archaic and time consuming. The website has been updated, and I was optimistic that things would be better this time around. I was wrong. A few hours after placing my order, I realized I'd missed a phone call. It was from someone at HT telling me my order was ready, but that six things were out of stock. This was a significant amount of my order -maybe 20%. I had also clicked a box on the website asking them to make substitutions if necessary. Since I needed some of these items for recipes, I called back to make sure they make substitutions. I was on hold off and on almost 10 minutes while they looked for my paperwork. Why isn't everything digital, or at least organized? Finally, he found my paperwork and I made my request - he said, I don't know, I'll try and let you know. Click. Um. Are you calling me back? Weird. My husband went to pick up the order in the designated window of time. He waited 20 minutes - and again they could not find the paperwork! When he got home, I was happy to see they had found replacements for three of the six things, but then I realized that the rotisserie chicken that two of my recipes were riding on was nowhere to be found. And yes, they charged me for it. Online grocery shopping is supposed to be more efficient. All this did was waste my time, and still didn't end up with everything I wanted. read more

This is my local store, and it's a good 'un. I see complaints here about the parking lot, but look - if you regularly shop here, it's easy to learn the parking drill. I never wait to get in and parked, and rarely wait more than a few seconds to exit. But you've gotta experiment a little, and forget about parking right in front of the main entrance. Leave that for the halt, the lame, and those with all day to hover in their cars. Self-checkout here is great - you can turn off the voice prompts and speed right through. Just avoid Sunday afternoons, when for some reason moms seem to get the idea that self-checkout should be a bonding, learning experience with Little Jason or Cute Britney pushing their miniature shopping carts up to the friendly robot. Note that the deli is slow - everything is unwrapped, manually sliced, and rewrapped while you waaaait. Nice guys in the bakery, fish and meat departments make up for that. Half a star off for the slow deli, and another half for not having a coffee bar. read more

The pharmacy at Lee-Harrison has been a mess. I scheduled a COVID vaccine, they insisted that Medicare would not cover it, and they demanded that I pay out of my own pocket. At home I verified that Medicare does pay for all FDA-approved vaccines and there's no cost to subscribers. HT continued to call (six times in 36 hours) and insist that I return to the pharmacy and pay. An HT customer service rep at their 1-800 number would not answer the simple question of "Does HT accept Medicare for COVID vaccines," kept repeating "It depends" (no, it doesn't), and eventually hung up on me. Finally a pharmacist researched my account, discovered they had accidentally charged my vaccine to Cash (although I did not hand over cash), and therefore had a register shortage, which is why they kept calling me. She corrected the overcharge and agreed that the charge should have been sent to Medicare all along. This incident required hours of my time to resolve, much of which was waiting on hold. read more

I hate this place so much. I used to shop here for my groceries and grab the breakfast bar. Ther bar has always been a disappointment. It's never refreshed and most if the pans at the bar are empty. I don't know why they even bother putting it up. Never full and never fresh. The managers couldn't care less! Ive been complaining for years. On one occasion, the breakfast bar was so bad the manager gave me a $25 gift card. I don't want anything for free, I just want the standards to meet at least some minimal level. This is not a high quality product. I've asked for the District Manager several times. Apparently customers addres not allowed to have the DM's number. Today, in the midst of the pandemic, half the staff, including cashiers, wore their masks with their entire nose exposed. This behavior makes the masks useless. When I went to the service desk to complain, the manager was not wearing a mask at all. She explained that she was in her little desk bubble so it was OK. NOT! She said she would be going around in a while to check on the staff. I won't be shopping in person at Harris Teeter as long as the virus continues its threat. read more

First a true story of how good this place is. I went there yesterday and at the self checkout requested $40 back. Left without taking it. Went back this morning for some bread and eggs and was highly skeptical that I would get it back but asked anyway. Sure enough they checked their records and the cashier turned it in. The employees here could not be nicer or more professional. I've lived in this neighborhood for 30 years and was here before Harris Teeter arrived. I've never posted a review but should have. It really increased quality and selection of fish (I'm from New England and very partial to fresh fish) meats and produce. Service is friendly and fabulous. Whoever decided to invent these miniature carts for kids should be beaten in public. They took an already crowded store and introduced a bunch of large objects for wandering five year olds to aimlessly push around. If you thought the Ballston HT was crowded on a Sunday, you at least don't have 30 kids blocking aisles while they stare at the selection of Lunchables, oblivious to everyone else. Of course being in this area, you really see some poor parenting. "McKinsey... please come this way.... you are blocking everyone... they would appreciate it if you'd like to move... can you do that? " Does anyone try to control their children anymore?! Show some authority and if you can't, just leave them in the car and crack the window. It's not that hot outside. Sorry, back to Harris Teeter. There's a parking garage underneath that is usually only half full. When you exit, you still have the issue of snaking your way back through the front lot, or making only a right turn onto Lee Hwy. Despite being an atrocity of planning, it's still much better than your alternatives around here. I can't believe there's a Safeway literally across the street from this. I refuse to give Safeway a cent so I will never set foot inside. If it's like other Safeways, shopping there has to be feel like living north of the DMZ. It's 24 hours and usually clean so try to go during off-peak hours. This is also one of the locations with drive up 'Express Lane' service if you're too lazy to shop for your own groceries. read more

Rotten and moldy food 3 weeks, three weeks, in a row. ~$20 ribs spoiled 4 days ahead of sell by date. Chicken breast so rank you could smell it when you can downstairs to the floor where the chicken was. Fruit with huge mold packaged so it was hidden. I have gone to Harris Teeter since opened in NOVA. But ownership has changed and it's gone downhill from there. From my 5 stars to wishing I could give 0. I chose this store over the brand new one in walking distance. You can tell the difference in style and layout because one was built under the great owners and this one the new owners. And the new owners got this new location under the pretense that it'd be a flagship store unlike any other in the area. In 6 months every other Harris Teeter was just like it. The only difference being it was built more recently and it's in a location where you have to drive about a mile to get to the other one. What I wouldn't give to have anything other than that new Harris Teeter by me. I'm not talking Wegmans or another grocery store (which would be great as Harris Teeter put a bunch of local "mom and pop" stores out of business). I mean Anything of Any size store. You know it's bad when all the managers and supervisors you've known for a decade suddenly disappear. And then there's turnover of the new people. I'm not saying people have to dress fancy. But when checkout clerks go from polo shirts to T-shirt's. And T-shirt's that say in large letters cheap/low prices. I forget which. I don't go to Harris Teeter to shop cheap. In fact they were anything but. There's a Safeway across the street. I can go there and shop cheap. I could go there and not get rotten food. There's the button to post pics but I won't because it's nasty an inappropriate to gross you out with what I just saw. It's horrible when a place like don't just go downhill but takes a nosedive. I feel bad for the people in this store who've stayed on under the new management. I hope they treat their employees better than their customers at least. But it may not matter. It used to be the lines to check out were insanely long. The more I think about it the shorter they've gotten. You can go anytime on a weekend and not have a 4 deep line anymore. If you're third in line it means they've understaffed their registers. And it was 3-4 deep with virtually every register open. Now it seems like 5 is a lot. I'm very sad. Very very sad. And annoyed that I have to go out shopping today again Rotten corn on display this week. At least didn't have to wait to get home. Meat from last week Robin again before the due date. Ok, ok. Maybe I was a little harsh on my last review of Harris Teeter. Maybe their not so bad! One person that makes your shopping trip all the more enjoyable is a little lady who works the checkout named Jane. Jane usually comes on the loudspeaker to alert you of 1) sales that you probably wouldn't otherwise know about 2) where additional checkout lanes have opened 3) to have a pleasant day. Aww, Jane, you're too kind! If you have the pleasure of having her check you out, she usually makes suggestions for your food, and not in a snobby way (I bought sausages today, said they'd taste great on the grill- great idea, Jane!) It's amazing how one friendly face can make all the difference when shopping at HT, which is generally a madhouse (and still rampant with rambunctious children). PS: Jane generally remembers your name and, if introduced, will address you as such on your next shopping visit. read more

What a lovely Harris Teeter! The customer service was very nice. The produce was lovely and the layout was well-considered. From the outside, it was as cute as it could be and it had my Hint waters that I love so much! It didn't seem to be any pricier than the Safeway I usually go to. One strike against it - the parking lot. Small, crowded, unfriendly, difficult. Boo. There's no excuse for a crummy parking lot in an uncrowded area like that. Poor, poor decision on the part of the urban planning folks that built this shopping center. You can sit and wait to get into the parking lot for 10 minutes, and then you'll have to sit and wait for someone to leave to get a spot! This has happened to me no fewer than 6 times. I dub this joint Day Care Grocery! I have been here when EVERY SINGLE CHILDS CART was being used- little hellions running around the store grabbing pixie stix and bubble gum. I pretty much wrote this place off after having so many run in's with unruly children, and clueless mothers/fathers. Also, I dont like how Harris Teeter has an upstairs, the elevator is so slow, and usually full of kids!!! One positive is that the place is one of the cleanest grocery stores around. read more

Bought groceries this morning and was disappointed at selection. They were charging $0.79 for "giant lemons" that were smaller than limes and some were visibly bruised! For dinner made soup and crackers. Noticed the crackers tasted stale and on inspection saw that the date on the box listed expiration as Aug2318. I purchased on 6 September! Stock was 2 weeks expired. Wth Harris teeter?! read more

Welcome to North Arlington's suburban grocery facility. I have few complaints -- it's organized, clean, reasonable, and great with customer service. Customer service here is exceptional as there are hassle-free returns and exchanges. (The Safeway across the street has a lot to learn in this department!) Especially notable are the employees at the sandwich/wrap counter downstairs -- they always do a great job, Jennifer the floral manager upstairs, and two checkers Michele F. and Kara who are very friendly and helpful. Some of the reviewers on here say HT prices aren't cheap. Yes, however, if you watch the sale ads and use coupons and your Harris Teeter VIC card, you can get some pretty good deals. Making a shopping list, planning in advance, and never buying on impulse helped me to cut back on my spending. (Also, don't shop here before a snow storm!!! You'll see the rest of Arlington inside, and you're not welcome at this party.) The best time for shopping here is in the early morning. I've had no problems between 4am and 10am. You're sure to get the best stuff at early morning times because new shipments are stocked in the middle of the night. Going after dinner will get you less crowds, but grocery items have all been picked over. For example, it's impossible to get fresh looking produce after dinner. Also, for the record, I live in the area and shop at HT frequently during the week -- children I've seen in the store have always been riding in carts and/or are closely supervised by parents. I visited this location on Friday August 9, 2019 in the evening. I shopped for hair products, food, drinks, and picked up a western union. I also inquired about employment opportunities and a vic card. Deshia, Benny, and the manager Lynn were the staff I was assisted by at this store. The customer service and hospitality I received from these three employees was outstanding!! I give the appearance and atmosphere of this Harris Teeter five stars. They were very informative, left their post to help me find what I needed, and the Lynn made sure I did not have to wait in line along with making me feel very welcome. Great job Harris Teeter staff!
