I popped in this location to get some flowers and unfortunately, they did not have the best or freshest selection when I was there but nonetheless I had no choice so I grabbed some flowers & was on my way It is a larger Lidl and the layout is quite nice. I didn't have time to shop for anything else but I would come back to check it out. Lidl's prices are attractive, however the quality is hit or miss. If you purchase basic pantry items, you are more than enough ok. The bakery is nice, breads, cheese, milk, oj, fruits all ok. If you purchase chicken to cook, it may not be the best quality. I purchased chicken legs and thighs and they began to smell the next day in the fridge. So I trust them with some things, but not meats. read more

Quick mid week lunch break grocery errand. Produce was already lacking with empty boxes of produce. Didn't have all the things I needed and prices were definitely higher than at my typical Fairfax location. They were moderately quick in opening up check out lanes, but only 1 check out lane during 1pm lunch rush was underestimated. read more

I live in Arlington but often go to this Lidl's as much for the good prices as for the whole vibe of the place. The staff are wonderful. I was looking for some coconut water and couldn't find any on the shelves. A staff member happily took apart a large stocking crate to find that coconut water that hadn't been put on the shelves yet. I also enjoy the down-to-earth customers who are invariably polite. read more

One of the most disappointing Lidls I had ever been too. While in the area, I decided to stop by . The produce dept was in shambles. It wasn't busy, but a lot of what I was looking for, were out of stock. Pineapples were over ripe, and fruit flies were present . Meat dept... scarce. And only one register open, with no urgency to open another one. I left my items behind. This location is near Mosaic and I had better expectations. I guess, I will stick with my neighborhood Lidls. read more

This is the best grocery store in the area. With daily fresh baked goods. Especially the German pretzels, which taste incredible! The bread is also fantastic. I'm from Germany and it's the first time I'm experiencing good quality baked goods here in the US. The variety is incredible as well. Great organic options as well. They even sell lobster tails! Definitely recommend coming here. THE HIGHLIGHT of this grocery store is the bread machine. IT CUTS YOUR FRSH LOAF OF BREAD!!!! Also Arthur the manager is fantastic! This is a first. I was waiting in their only checkout line for 15 minutes and when I went to checkout, the cashier told me "just so you know, there are cameras in here", hinting that I was stealing?? I genuinely laughed because I was so confused and then he wouldn't say anything else to me as I paid for my stuff and bagged it. I've never been treated like that by an employee anywhere. Lidl, I love you. As prices have gone sky high in other markets, you can still find quality at Lidl! The Lidl (and otherwise labeled) store brands are superior to other market's store brands with an emphasis on healthy interpretations. Not all are perfect interpretations (looking at you imitation Cookie Crisp cereal), but most are superior. These span from loaves of bread (some are under $1.00), to lunchmeat, to cereal, to soda to almost anything you can think of. Also, as a European-based store, they have some of the fine chocolates that you won't find elsewhere. So, as prices continue to rise, get over your hang-ups about specific brands and give Lidl a try. You may be pleasantly surprised as I have been. Just please, please, please, leave some of the fresh bakery goods for me! read more

I can recommend going to all other stores. Saving cents here is NOT WORTH IT! The milk was labeled $2.99 and it ringed up as $6 something. The store manager went to the digital sign and changed the price right in front of my eye! Not only no apologies, they said you can not shoot photos in the stores like Harris Teeter if it is the wrong prices. Lidl is definitely a money saver. While I can't say I buy everything here, there are certain areas you want to focus on. These German owned stores are known for their no frills savings. This American dude likes that. I don't need fancy displays, and amenities while purchasing food. What I'm looking for is value. With inflation these days staggering, this is even more important. This Lidl can be quite busy. You won't be able to run in, run out while here. Also they are limited to some items. What I do is buy my lunch meats, ground beef, and yogurts here. Occasionally I'll have to get one of their delicious candy bars, as the struggle for that is real. This is a good store, but again it's going to take time. They get busy and keep costs low, by a small amount of employees. This area can be challenging for driving to. I'm glad it's here for some savings. read more

2/15/22 On 2/7/22, I had to buy some products for my wife and I. Coming in at night time the smell of the Bakery hit my nose. The oatmeal raisin cookies looked good, but they were where a kid can get them and this is very disturbing. I don't need to go into detail on where I have seen kids hands go. Adults can be worse, but this is more of a 10% out of 90.(please let me know if you think differently) The store is till well organized, but I am seeing less employees and managers working in the store since opening day. Still, I enjoyed talking to the cashier as I was checking out. It was a short talk, but fun. A good sense of humor goes well with most employees. I shall return. read more

I love Lidl, and this was my first time in this store. I liked the layout and how big it was. I found what I was looking for quickly and left with my purchases. I can't say enough about Lidl stores in general. The only thing I wished this store had was self-checkout. I prefer to do it myself, as it is quicker and more cost-effective. Suspiciously Low Priced Groceries: The Discount Airlines Business Model Summary: Lidl is a limited selection "discount" grocery store from Germany which advertises itself as a low priced grocery store but really practices cost externalization by passing costs on to customers through charges on the back end of the shopping experience as well as very limited in store customer service. Background: Lidl is among some of the largest grocery store chains in Germany along with Aldi Nord and Aldi Sud, two separate grocery store companies. Aldi Nord operates in the US as Trader Joes while Aldi Sud operates as Aldi. While Aldi Nord, through Trades Joes has been in the US for some time, Aldi Sud and Lidl are relatively new market entrants. Is it just me or is the prominent use of "L's" and "I's" in these stores' names confusing? The below list is from my first time experience at a Lidl on the Merrifield store's opening day buying a small amount of groceries including deli meats, prepared meals, and seafood. Pros: Initial seemingly low prices. Unlike Aldi, Lidl does offer some brand names A limited selection of European products Cons: No baskets for consumers wanting to buy a small amount of groceries Advertises prepackaged deli meats as low cost, but those same meats could likely be purchased freshly sliced at a deli for less. Charges customers for bags Does not bag customers' groceries Cashier came across as pushy or inattentive at the register Analysis: The biggest turnoff for me with Lidl is how they try to attract customers by advertising low prices but then, just like discount airlines, recoup initially low prices by charging customers for bags and cutting back on customer service. Lidl does this by not providing baskets for small purchases and forcing customers to bag their own groceries. The fact that Lidl charges(7 or 10 cents each) for disposable bags at a higher price than nearby jurisdictions which tax bags at 5 cents each is unjustifiable. It is even more ridiculous that they charge so much for bags in Virginia which does not tax bags and other stores provide at no additional cost. Some items, such as deli meat noted above, which are presented as low priced could likely be bought elsewhere for less. The cashier at the register told me while I was packing my one bag of groceries that my credit card had not process successfully. I had not even swiped my card. This came across as either pushy or inattentive to me. Either she was trying to move the line faster so she could start scanning the next customer's items and piling them up next to my items while I bagged my groceries or she was inattentive and was not paying attention to see if I had swiped my card. Either way, in most grocery stores, the groceries are bagged or mostly through the bagging process before payment is rendered. To say that my card had not been successfully processed (aka ask for payment) before I could even finish bagging my one bag of groceries was rude. Suggestions for others: If you want low priced groceries without reduced customer service and bag charges, go to Walmart, Costco, or an Asian grocery store. If you want a good selection of European food, phenomenal customer service, and the best organized and packed grocery bags on the planet (at no additional charge!), go to Trader Joes. If you like bagging your own groceries, paying extra for bags, and have a real thing for German grocery stores, but want the added experience of being limited to store brands only, go to Aldi. When I'm not shopping for organic food items, this grocery store chain has become my favorite. I've shopped at a few of their other stores, but today was the first time that I had been to this location. I have discovered the prices here are literally unbeatable. $1.57 for a half gallon of milk? Good luck finding that price at another grocery store. I needed to get some basic grocery items to hold me over for a couple of days. I picked-up some raisin bran cereal, a pack of boneless chicken breasts, some pasta and spaghetti sauce, and the milk of course. The bakery here is pretty robust so I also got a container of Aegean pasta, and 2 tomato olive focaccia breads. One of the strangest things that I've noticed is that some of these stores also sell cheap home items, when they could use that space to provide for more grocery items. I will never step foot in this store or any Lidl store again. I've never encountered worse customer service in my life, and that's saying a lot. I've called three times about a mere $3.50 mistake in the store, only to have the "customer service" reps refuse to help. I've shopped at Lidl almost exclusively for about a year and a half. I don't care about the small amount of money, but I do care about the insult to a long time customer by telling them you'd be willing to lose their business over $3.50. It's astonishing. Local business supply store went out of business. COVID casualty. Poof! In comes Lidl. A welcome addition. Has the lovely, cosmopolitan Lidl selection of all sorts of things. Prices are good. Great selection of fresh fruits and veggies. And uh oh ... the temptation of fresh baked goods when you walk in. Single criticism would be the parking lot. On a hill. Most of the parking is further away from the door. No place to put carts once you've unloaded them. Other than hiking all the way back up that long, prohibitive hill. Maybe set up a cart rack at the bottom of the hill? Some of us are geriatric and have gait issues. (Not trying to be lazy.) read more

Went on my late shopping trip to the Falls Church Lidl location the other day - very neat, organized and the staff is always so helpful and genuinely awesome. We had Humam as the cashier and he even played a fun game with us - guess how much our total will be. And he pulled a total rainman and guessed my $100+ total to the exact dollar! Good solid grocery store. Opened a few weeks ago and definitely has some kinks to iron out but it definitely has the basics and a little more. A bit pricier than Aldi down the street, but it has more product to offer. I went the first week and the bakery section was filled with good pastries. On my second visit, the produce was scarce and kind of dirty. Salmon was wiped too. I hope that their inventory improves. Didn't notice many workers except the cashiers. I had an awful customer experience at the LIDL Store at 2901 Gallows Rd., Falls Church, VA 22042 this afternoon, Oct. 28, 2021. I went to the cashier to return Garlic Hummus with my receipt because there was little garlic in the hummus, and the hummus tasted inferior to hummus purchased at other grocery stores. A manager, Richard, instead of being courteous, and concerned about the quality of the hummus, said "almost half the hummus was eaten" and refused to refund my money! I called the corporate office and spoke to William, a customer service representative, who apologized for the service, put me on hold, and called the local store while I waited in the parking lot. He then assured me that I would receive my refund immediately when I returned to the store. When I went to a cashier inside, she had to call a manager regarding the return. When the manager, a woman, arrived at the checkout, she said I should have a number to give her regarding the return. I replied that no number was given to me and became very irritated at this inefficient process. Finally, the cashier processed my refund. LIDL's world headquarters is in Germany, and Germans have a reputation for efficiency. The U.S. operation store is just the opposite. I will never return to this store after wasting 45 minutes of my time! If you want to be treated with respect and receive excellent customer service, go to ALDI, a few blocks away also on Gallows Road. Lidl is an odd company that prefers to deceive their customers between how their printed flyers and app communicate promotional items differently, and their focus on selling you non-food goods, like tools and clothing, etc. Food staples like seafood, meat and chicken prices per pound are not better than the weekly sale items at Giant, Safeway, or Harris Teeter type grocers. They definitely look to channel you toward buying the highest margin, highest profit items -- like the multiple aisles of non-food related stuff. They like featuring a lot of native German or Greek food items with undoubtedly high margins that are not regular purchases for anyone other than those ethnic groups. Does the DC Metro area have a significant population of Greek or German national communities? Nope. So why the featured food? Money. So I never come out of there with a cart full of food. My wallet does much better at Aldi, whether sale or non-sale food and stuff, and if they do feature ethnic foods, it makes sense with typical ethnic populations here or the time of year -- like German foods during Octoberfest. read more

My first visit to a Lidl! Everything is at a reasonable price. I was able to get breakfast links for $1.32 and frozen mussels for $2.50. Amazing! On top of the already low prices, they have $5- $10 off coupons for purchases over $30. Try the croissants and cookies- very fresh and delicious. I read some of the earlier reviews complaining customers have to bag their own groceries and that bags are $0.10, but c'mon- bring your own bags to save money and the environment. You can also spend the time to bag your stuff yourself to save some money. I prefer Lidl over Aldi because of the cart system. At Lidl, you won't need to have a quarter to use a cart. read more

I am very disappointed in Lidl's staff members aggressive behavior! I was harrassed three times this evening by an employee who asked me to move my car after explaining to him that I was unable to see with my glasses which where fogged up. There were no pedestrians coming in/out or cars in front/behind, or driving through. It was unreasonable for him to angrily stand at my passengers side and then hover at my driver's side window insisting that I move my car in a situation where it was clearly unsafe for me to drive. I then parked in the handicap spot which had a snow pile obstructing all four handicap spots, again unacceptable. He then waited to see if I indeed had a handicap placard. Aggression followed by micro aggression, unreal. To be clear, another car then pulls up, parks against traffic and at the same spot I was urgently instructed to move from by a Lidl's employee! I watched for a couple of minutes noting that they had been stationed slightly longer than I had, yet not a single employee came out to shoo them away. I then took my camera and started to time them. It was another 8 minutes before the other car would leave the same spot, an estimated 10 minutes total! I generally like their products and value but I will not be back for some time. I can't believe someone is actually complaining about Lidl's bag situation, people really do whine about everything. If you feel it's "unjustifiable" to pay 10 cents for a bag then maybe... get this... bring a bag? Oh, you only want a few items but there's no basket? Hm, maybe you should bring a bag? And really, what are you doing that's so time sensitive that you can't pack your own groceries? Do you not unpack them all by yourself when you get home? And as for the cashier story, 10 cents this is what actually happened: she finished scanning everything and was ready to move to the next customer, but Mr. Entitled felt that it was more important to hold up the line so that he could pack his groceries instead of doing it off to the side like everyone else. The cashier then said, "You card didn't process" as a nice way of saying, "Please pay and get out of the way." Don't listen to the whiners, Lidl is a magical place and I'm thrilled they opened a spot here. You can get so much high quality food for dirt cheap. I especially like their pre-cut fruit and bakery. A lot has already been said about this store, but here's my 2 cents worth. I have been to this Merrifield store once. 2 or 3 blocks away, there is an Aldi, which I love for the prices, and the basics, since I'm not often concerned about brand names. Quality at Aldi is acceptably decent, too. But based on what I had heard about Lidl, I decided to try it, about 8/1/21. The parking lot immediately in front of the store was packed, but a little patience got me a spot near the door. They had both full-size and 'half-size' carts. I chose the smaller, enough to carry 2 full-size (now discontinued) plastic Aldi bags out of a dozen or more that I keep in service by patching as needed with clear packaging/shipping tape. I never leave a grocery store with more than I can carry upstairs in two of those bags in one trip. No quarter needed to take a cart. It's bigger inside than the nearby Aldi, by about to 1/2. The produce and meats are right in front of you when you go in. Both sections bigger and more varied than Aldi. I got some nice fresh parsley, and a jar of dried parsley, and a grinder of black pepper; a 4-ear pack of corn (no loose ears were there, but when asked, an employee said they would be in the store in fall [think harvest time]) and a couple of nectarines. Also a 1-lb bag of nice Roma tomatoes, priced like Aldi. I paid little attention to the fresh meats, since I wasn't after any this trip. To end of the aisle looking for sliced ham and sliced American cheese. Both there, both a little more expensive than Aldi, but I did end up liking the Black Forest ham better; so it's a tradeoff. Also got PB&J, some store brand cheese crackers (like Cheez-its) and woven wheat crackers (like Triscuits), although those 2 brand names were also available. In canned food, I was very happy to find Mrs. Fearnow's Brunswick Stew. I'm a big fan. No canned mixed vegetables, but like Aldi, available frozen. I passed on a jar of Kalamata olives. I think they're cheaper at Aldi, but don't quote me. Got some liquid laundry detergent, free of scent and color (my wife is sensitive to those; gets a rash). It was nice to see that choice. Picked up a few more items I don't remember, and checked out. The cashiers didn't move as rapidly as at Aldi, but made up for it by having two moving belts available after ringing up. One customer goes to one, and the next goes to the other, without interfering with the overall flow. Gave me more time to re-collect my purchase back into the cart, without holding anybody up, or stressing about my speed. I liked it. 2 full bags came to $41 and change. Probably just a wee bit more than Aldi overall, but not much; and certainly WAY better than Giant or Safeway. Went from there to the long shelf along the wall to bag my loot, again with no stress, no interference, put the full bags back in the cart, and rolled them out to my car. Returned my cart to one of the stations they have for that in the parking lot, and headed home. At home, I did find that I didn't like the crackers as much as Aldi's. Still there was nothing wrong, nothing awful about them. I'll be picking and choosing between Aldi and Lidl from now on. Each is 'better' than the other in some ways ('better' being strictly a matter of the opinions and preferences of the shopper), and I expect to keep visiting both. read more

The store itself is nice and they have a lot of options at decent prices. But the parking situation here is terrible. It's very crowded in this particular shopping center and I have to be extremely focus when maneuvering around the parking lot so I don't hit anybody. Also, I noticed that some of the staff were a bit rude to customers. For example, I saw some people about to place their groceries onto the belt, and the worker glared at them saying "It's closed" with a negative tone. Terribly rude bald Asian cashier. This store only just opened and already has employees with such attitude. There are 5 other supermarkets all within minutes from them. No one needs to be subjected to this kind of service. Treating customers poorly never helps business. If you can't extend service or kindness how will people want to come to shop at your store?!!! Surely the management knows this! Set up your cashier lines without giving authority to randomly cut off when all lines are full. If the employee doesn't have people friendly personality, don't hire them 8n the first place, and especially don't hire then and put them in the front lines. read more

I'm floored by the prices of cereal and many products in the store. Word to the wise bring your own bags for bagging food. I also bought mangoes that were unsweetened organic and dried very tasty they sell a brand of shredded wheat cereal under two dollars. Like I said I am floored at the prices here.
