I love this store and the variety of fresh produce they offer. Prices are very reasonable for the area and compare to the stores nearby. I like that they have a big halal section and also a wide variety of meats, seafood, poultry. Great selection of spices from different countries. This is my go to if we make any Korean, Japanese, Thai or Indian dishes. I genuinely like this store and I see many employees work hard to keep it well stocked and maintained. There are some hiccups with cashiers. But I usually prefer to pack my purchases myself and bring my bags with me. I wish they had kosher meats and prepared meals. Great store for international foods. Vegetables are very fresh and the herbs are very inexpensive. All different kinds of cuisines.

This has become my favorite international market... The two times I've been here, they've had really fresh and beautiful produce and a large selection of it. They have a really nice selection of beef, both halal and non-halal. They also have a nice assortment of ethnicities throughout. Prices are very fair on the produce and meats. The only issue is that their cashiers have a discourteous demeanor. On this trip she was just tossing all of my produce in a bag (literally grabbing and tossing it) without care of breaking it. So, if you can deal with poor customer service from the cashier, then it's worth the trip. I'll return. read more

LA Mart, off of Van Dorn and Edsall, took over what once was a Giant. This international grocery store offers produce, meats, frozen items, snacks, as well as international goods from India/Pakistan, the Middle East, Latin America, Korea/Japan/China, etc. I particularly like their small selection of halal meats, like the chicken breasts and the wings. They do have a variety of spices and some items that can be hard-to-find and not readily available, even in the larger Asian/international grocery store chains. The staff are somewhat friendly, but they're kind of unhelpful in locating specific items. Just be aware that some items that may be on sale may not come up when you're checking out - for instance, the hoisin sauce that I recently purchased was on sale, but it still came up as full price during checkout. I had taken a virtual cooking class on Yelp and was motivated to check out this store since carries international items. Even during covid, I enjoyed the experience. An employee stood outside, handing everyone disposable gloves. I have my own "cootie kit" with wipes, etc. I wiped off a cart that I found outside. The produce section was fun to look over. I tried not to linger, so that I didn't interfere with others trying to safe distance. Not all customers were staying away six feet but, I left any row that felt too crowded. There were so many wonderful items. I am well traveled and I saw new fruits. The Aloe was amazing. You could burn your entire body & treat it with just one huge piece (branch, leaf, stalk?). The Romaine lettuce was cheaper & nicer than Aldi (5 heads for less than $1.75). I am "pepper friendly" but I've never been excited about it before. It was beautiful. It was nice having an Instagram moment during a pandemic. Giant and Harris Teeter have one "international" aisle. This store had an aisle stocked with just oils and spices. There were more tofu choices than Whole Foods carries. There must have been 30 different types of rice. I don't eat tuna, but that didn't stop me from looking at all the types. There is so much more than Starkist. Hubby warned me not to enter the meat row since there were goat heads there. If you like goat, this place has it. I checked out the seafood area. There were tons of frozen fish. You can order it by cut. There were a few sad looking blue crabs (I'm guessing, since they were blue) that were dazed & not doing very well. I think this is how the store earned one of their violations listed on Yelp's page (customers being near live products & having access to touch them). Here's a thought. Just don't touch them. You can just be a Yelper, take a photo & then walk away. There were so many oils, seasonings, dried beans and tons of Goya products. My Goya world just expanded. If you eat seafood, there are tons of frozen items (squid, crab & so much more). You can buy a bag of rice for one person, or 50. I made tofu, seitan egg wraps with products from the store. We enjoyed them. I think I have enough tofu to last as long as we are supposed to shelter at home. The cashiers wore protective gear & had plexiglass protecting them and us. Each cashier displayed their pictures without a mask. It was a nice (and sad) touch. I look forward to life returning to "normal." read more

LA Mart International Food I encountered a man named Kevin in the seafood/ fish department at LA Mart located at 5730 Edsall Road, Alexandria VA 22304 Our simple request was to have more crabs put out because the ones they had out were dead. Kevin treated us in the most nastiest manner and was rude. He told us that they were good and that he wasn't going to put more out. They were clearly dead, like not moving at all. Not only that we reported that a lady had just sneezed over the shrimp which wasn't covered to which he did nothing about. The fish is not properly covered and people use their hands to retrieve them as tonges are available for use. We waited for the refill which another person was kind enough to put out. This store needs to be shut down a least the seafood department until the health department does a quality inspection on the meat and seafood that is being served to customers. The frozen seafood which has been packaged is old and no good. I purchased 38.00 dollar pack of Korean barbeque only to get home for the meat to smell bad and not edible. When I complained to the store they did nothing about it. I can't keep throwing away money on bad food that the health department doesn't care to do anything about, my guess is that it's in the wrong part of town. read more

G-H-E-T-T-O. Literally used to love this place. However, I went in today to purchase a few items and watched a customer get in a fight with the cashier and they both called each other names in Spanish while everyone stood watching. The customer threw cash at the cashier. Apparently the store was not accepting cards/debit today and literally none of the customers were informed. I stood in line for twenty minutes while the cashier yelled that the card issue was "not her problem". Goodbye and NEVER again. They have Gochang paste at Trader Joe's now. LA Mart is fairly good on produce, but avoid their meat if you can. I purchased steak there that was supposed to be good for another week. Within 24 hours it was brown and not smelling well even though I never opened the package and put it straight into the refrigerator after I got back from the store. I brought it back today (the next day) without a receipt because I have not ever really been in a situation where I felt I should return anything to a grocery store. First, they read you the riot act for not having a receipt (although the meat clearly shows where it is from and that I have roughly a week before it is supposed to spoil), then they had the absolute gall to tell me I must have improperly stored it. I planned on cooking the meat tomorrow - 2 days after purchase - and the staff member said I should have put it directly in the freezer. Who does that when they are going to cook the meat 2 says after they buy it - 5 days before it is supposed to start going bad?!@# Then, the staff member goes and finds the "owner" who also tells me that I must have improperly stored it and that because I buy "normal" items they cannot find my receipt. They don't exchange meat beyond 24 hours (which I was within). I honestly wasn't trying to return it at all. I just wanted to exchange the clearly spoiled meat that was many days before its use by date for something that wasn't spoiled. I let him know that I am fine with the policy (even though I never saw it posted anywhere) but it was clear I bought it there and that I didn't tamper with it, and it was disrespectful and undermining my intelligence to tell me I must have improperly stored meat. I have been cooking for myself for over 20 years and have done just fine before I shopped here. So caveat emptor - either skip the meats here or make sure you clutch your receipts and hope they aren't spoiled by the 25th hour after you bought them. Again...my meat was supposed to be good for about another week. You do the math there. Very very very disrespectful. I hope H Mart opens a store closer to my house. I only come here when I can't make the trek to Fairfax. read more

My go to spot when looking for bulk meat purchases. I love getting my meat from LA Mart. They sell uncut primal's which you can easily break into finer cuts. The pricing on the meat is great, and you get a variety. Fish, beef, chicken, goat, all available. Tons of spices available, and as an international mart you get the opportunity to get a variety of spices in one place. Beans, rice in bulk. The vegetables and fruit can be hit or miss, so you need to make sure you know what you're getting when you get it. Staff is always very friendly and the lines go through pretty quick. read more

Very enjoyable first trip through this store. I'm so happy to see so much produce not in plastic, but then in other areas there was some unnecessary plastic use. Prices were great! Aisles were labeled well and we found everything we were looking for and more. You can find different brands of the same type of food (teas, flours, spices, etc) in different aisles which was a little confusing at first and harder to compare prices, but could make things also easier if you knew which cuisine you wanted to focus on. New store that took over the old space Giant used to occupy, and has seem to have built on-top of the old Giant infrastructure that was already there. I experience fast lines, and great selection of many Asian/Latin goods, in addition to common American brands. Also, the prices for the produce seem cheaper than the competition. I regularly shop at the LA Mart located at Van Dorn St. and Edsall Rd. for produce, and other items not readily available elsewhere that I use to prepare Latin, Asian and Middle Eastern dishes. Part of a chain with stores at other locations in the area, LA Mart offers a wide selection of products, some of which are often hard to find elsewhere. Prices are generally good, and I especially find cheaper, for fruits and vegetables. The store is well organized and the employees have been helpful on the rare occasions I have needed assistance. read more

My husband and I love LA Mart. We are so glad that they replaced the Giant that was in this location previously. The prices are very good (so affordable) and the selection of foods is amazing. If you try to find these products in a national grocery store you won't find it or it'll be very expensive. I am able to cook authentic Caribbean meals as well as make other international dishes. We can get items for me (vegan) and for my husband (meat eater) in one location. On the weekends they even have samples like Costco's. I'm so happy this store is here! read more

A good selection means nothing when customer service is so atrocious! My mother was double-charged for 2 items totaling $9.61 and also sold a bag of cherries for $6.58 that turned out to be rotten on 6/17. She is too old and frail to have realized all this or the misprinted receipt date of 6/14 (instead of 6/17) on the spot. When I stopped by the very next day to request appropriate refunds, I was assisted by three extremely rude employees who kept arguing that I had absolutely no proof of anything I was claiming, that their cash register technology absolutely never fails, and that the receipt clearly states that there is only a 2-day window for returns/exchanges, which they claimed had passed. Two of them even began to pull up videotape recordings on a screen, looking to find me on video and telling me they don't see me anywhere (when I repeatedly told them it should be my Mom's image they're looking for; not mine). One kept insisting I return some other day when a manager would be on duty. Oh really? No manager on duty? When I accepted to forgo the refund on the cherries and asked to at least be reimbursed for the over-rings, one of them actually started waving goodbye at me. This type of customer service is absolutely and entirely unacceptable and more than enough to suggest they WILL go out of business if this is going to be their business approach. Shame on this operation! Oh, and by the way, their prices for produce are NOT one bit cheaper than the Giant that used to occupy this premise. Don't even bother!! read more

It's okay, It's a grocery store, it just has a lot of international items that most regular stores do not have. I like the selection of Ramen and Noodle varieties, and the fact that I can find a lot of sauces and other items that can be used in various dishes, but the prices are a bit high, Lotte Market has better prices and some of the fast selling items like Kimchi is always out of stock for the most part. I went there on opening day and have been back 3 times since and on every occasion the Kimchi has been sold out and the only thing available was a huge like 25lb case. It Serves it's purpose for this community and it's not a bad store, it just needs to up it's game a bit. read more

This is one of my go-to international supermarkets they have very good selection of fresh seafood and fresh produce. So much so I drive from MD to shop here when I am shopping for fresh produce in particular. They have very good prices on fresh shrimp and whole lobster tails (frozen). I am updating my review to changie it from 1 star to 4 stars. I had given it a 1 star after my 1st visit as it was so frigidly cold in the store. However, I was comfortable on my 2nd visit. This may be because I wore 2 jackets: a corduroy and a lightweight rain jacket. I was pleased to find all the ingredients I needed for my Thai Noodle Salad. This was with the help of an employee who helped me find Thai chili paste. I was impressed with the size of the store and the wide variety of products carried. The next time I go there I will re-assess the temperature in the store and may upgrade my rating to a 5 star if I don't believe it is too cold in the store. read more

They had plenty of stuffs that I was looking for, place was clean and the aisle was spacious compared to similar global and international food stores in the area. They have halal available which was a plus for me. However, the cashiers are too quick and hasty and ignore customers; I noticed that was the case and was cautious that she does not mix up my items with that of other customers.
