This is a dream of a corner store & I'm so happy it's in the neighborhood. As others have mentioned, the quality and breadth of products they offer in this tiny store is incredible. If I'm ever missing a last minute ingredient for a recipe, this is my first stop. They have such a great selection and I've come in looking for: 1) fresh fruits & veggies 2) variety of seltzer waters 3) spices including pepper, etc. 4) hummus (not sure where they source it from, but it was delicious) 5) stamps 6) hygiene & first aid 7) ice cream 8) organic milk. In addition to the above, they have bread from Lyon Bakery (my favorite bakery in DC), a wide selection of frozen foods, a decent selection of raw ingredients and snack foods. The other thing I love is that they allow dogs in the store & even have a jar of dog treats to share. I know this store might not look like much from the outside, but give it a chance & go in. Been here several times but the $10 credit card minimum fee is predatory and illegal. I then asked to use my debit card because as the law states: Surcharges are forbidden on debit or prepaid cards. But they still tried to charge me the $10 fee. Disappointing to see from a neighborhood business. I wish this place felt more welcoming. read more

What a cute little store! Came here when I was visiting family in DC, and thought this is the cutest little store. I was not sure if they will have any children thing and they do! I needed to get children ibuprofen and some ingredients I'm missing to make cookies. I didn't expect to find them all here. The staff are so sweet and kind as well. We flew in from Texas to visit and have walked into 7River Mart several times at this point to grab some snacks and drinks. The new owners are very nice and I immediately saw how clean and organized the store was on my initial visit. The store has a good selection of snacks and essential grocery items that is far more convenient to get at 7 River Mart if you are a local. We have been back since our initial visit and we were greeted by one of the new owners with a smile and had great conversations. The service has always been horrible and I'd give this place zero star if I could. Earlier today I was looking for cornstarch and I asked "hey do you know where the cornstarch is?" And not only did the guy who's always at the counter yell at me for not putting the other merchandise back EXACTLY the way he wanted, he also scorned at me when I was checking out. He asked "where are your folks from?" I felt racially targeted and told him "China," and he replied "is that how you Chinese people talk to your elders? My name isn't 'hey' and you need to change that." I'm still shaking from how angry I am from that exchange and rest assured I'll likely never be back again even though I live just a block away. read more

I recently moved right by this market and had made a mental note of "oh, I could probably go there to get beer," but hadn't actually stopped in until today. Since we are snowed in, I got it in my head that I wanted to bake some King Cakes, and also wanted to make some easy cornbread to go with chili tonight--and maybe veggies for omelettes tomorrow. This place is amazing! My list was VERY random--bread flour, yeast, powdered sugar, sour cream, lemon, red bell pepper, onion, jalapeño, cornbread mix and beer (duh, it's snowing). They had all of it. I'm seriously floored that a corner store has all that. And all of that (including the Flying Dog beer) was only $28, which I think is quite comparable to what it would have been at Giant or Safeway. The owners were friendly, and he even threw in the jalapeño for free since it looked like it was on its way out. Great addition to the neighborhood with a really good selection. I'm lost as to why there are so many positive reviews here. I moved into the neighborhood a few months ago and was excited to have a little corner store for quick needs like milk and eggs. I've been in 3x and have had terrible experiences every time. The owner (assuming he is the owner because I've only ever seen him there) has been rude and short with me every time. I asked him for a suggestion for a store close by that might sell an item he didn't have and he just looked at me like I had 3 heads and said "Google." Not a business I want to support ever again. Not to mention the prices are ABSURD. So much for a convenient corner store, I miss my NYC bodega. I'll make the trip to the giant for normal prices and mediocre customer service--anything is better than 7 River Mart. read more

Is don't know how they manage to fit every possible thing you could need in such a small market, but they do... And in a way that's organized and easy to find what you need, even! Every time I visit for that one missing ingredient, they've got it, from fresh veg to Ghirardelli chocolate chips, orange juice to ice cream. I pretty much buy only beer here. Solid selection and very reasonable prices, particularly for a corner store. They carry some local options (all three year round DC Braus) and even get some somewhat rare stuff (Nugget Nectar for $12 a six pack). Six packs only, no bombers. Food selection seems decent. Not fancy like P&C a couple blocks away, but better prices. Owner is really friendly. read more

I like 7 River Mart better than I like most humans. The owner is the nicest guy and if they don't have something, I can ask him it for it and it will be there the next week. For such a small space, it's got an impressively diverse, high quality selection (beer, wine, cereal, pasta, peanut butter, multiple (!) pancake mixes, bread, ice cream, random frozen foods like Amy's burritos, even some meat and produce) and our household does a shocking amount of our grocery shopping there. We're all on a first name basis with Ko (sp?) and he has my roomie's cell phone number to call her the next time his wife makes kimchi so we can have the real deal. Loved the Lees but this is such an incredible upgrade. It is clean and the prices are not to huge! The beer selection is impressive as is the wine and not that much over grocery store prices. I will gladly pay $1 - $2 more to not drive. They now have a fresh bread vendor...yummy! I am so glad they are in the hood! read more

The 7-River Mart looks tiny, but Ko is able to pack an inordinate amount of quality products into the space. Prices are totally reasonable and in line with those at nearby supermarkets. Our friendly local shopkeep Ko has done an amazing job upgrading the former Young's Market here in North Lincoln Park. I'm constantly amazed by the useful groceries and sundries you can pick up right here in the neighborhood. (*Nine* types of gravy? For real?) That's on top of an excellent selection of beer, wine, cheese and "convenience" items. And when you are just not feeling a trip to the supermarket, you can definitely put together a nice three-course meal from the offerings here. The wide arrange of SKUs are presented in clean and attractive displays -- a step above the typical corner store. 7 River Mart is a major addition to the neighborhood and I encourage all the locals (and those just passing through) to patronize the store and say hello to Ko! read more

I can't imagine a better corner store. We lived a few blocks away for about 3 years. 7 River Mart came through in the clutch with the one ingredient we were missing on more than one occasion. This market was reasonably priced compared to others and had a lot of choices for snacks and light groceries to have around while visiting DC. 7-Rivers Mart took over from a tired, standard corner convenience store several years ago. The change was totally remarkable. We now have, as a neighborhood corner store, a grocery that offers organic milk and eggs, butter, bacon, prosciutto, a amazing selection of craft beers, frozen foods, a (limited) array of fresh produce, bread from Lyon bakery, red and white wines of distinction (including Champagne), and much more.
