Mexican Fruits is a beloved little shop in the OG Union Market. When you spot the bright blue building, go inside to a room crammed with fresh produce, spices and other household items. If you need more unique produce, this is your spot!

Friendly staff, great location and variety of groceries to select from. I get amazing finds whenever stop in. The deals are great.

I'm not a big Yelper BUT I had to come on here and give my two cents because it might just help others make a decision as to whether they want to stop by and do their shopping here. First of all - I am not from Washington D.C, I just moved here from Los Angeles CA about two weeks ago. And let me just say --produce in D.C is ridiculously expensive...I almost had a heart attack the first time I walked into the grocery store last week...paying 1$ for ONE orange, 2.50$ for ONE avocado...50 cents for ONE lemon? Back in California we pay nearly nothing for our produce because it's grown in our state. Any who, so when I found out this store existed, I walked over excited that I'd finally pay reasonable prices. First impressions: It's near whole sales stores - homeless sitting outside, parking but the road is not well paved and its like we would say back home "hood". The store itself - Not sure if I saw a Sign at the entrance but you see all the produce as soon as you walk in, It's small, it looks like an outdoor market, signs with prices are hand written, produce is pilled everywhere, you can buy in bulk and ask for a cheaper prices, and you don't get a paper receipt. The woman at the counter speaks both Spanish and English. Another gentleman was loading a truck and kept walking through the store with big cases of produce, I am not sure when they receive their deliveries but it would be good to know so you can show up that day and get all their new stuff. I paid a total of 30$, only because I spent 16$ on a bag of 5 pound mozzarella cheese (I want to make a veggie Lasagna later) - the rest was fresh fruits and beans. Don't expect 5 star produce, it's CHEAP, BUT with that you must pick your fruit with a critical eye. If you are going to be cooking up a feast and need the veggies asap, this is PERFECT -if you are going to have the veggies in your fridge for day's on end, I would suggest you purchase a limited amount, don't think the veggies will last very long. I expect to be going here weekly! :D I live 3-4 blocks down the street and while the area is sketchy, it's worth the walk. p.s I would have taken pictures of the store itself but I already look like an outsider that I didn't want to make it any more obvious! haa. I am Mexican but I am very light and have blue eyes - so people generally think I'm "White" - With that, I speak fluent Spanish.

Where else can you find these prices?!!!

This place has tons of authentic Mexican foods. The staff was extremely friendly and the prices are low. I would recommend coming here.

My very first experience here was horrible! The staff that I interacted with was rude and had an…read moreattitude as soon as I walked in.. I had questions because it was my first time getting actual food there and most of the people at the register seemed irritated and upset about me inquiring. But something was different when I went in the other day because all that completely changed. Thanks to Chi Chi and Rell (there was also another guy there with glasses whose name I didn't get)! But they were the BEST! The best customer service I've had there since I started going. First off as soon as I walked in Chi Chi greeted me with the biggest smile and positive welcomed energy! I was shocked because no one EVER speaks when I go in, so that was really refreshing! She's was so nice and sweet and patient with me and all the other guest! I placed my order and Rell took care of it. I usually have a few modifications with my sandwich and for most of the other employees that seems to be a problem or bring extreme frustration. Rell didn't have a problem at all! Usually it's a lot of eye rolling and deep breaths, and it'll be over something small like asking for sub roll instead of regular bread. So it was nice to order my food and not get attitude from staff for how I want to eat my food. I feel like as long as Rell and Chi Chi are there the vibes are going to VIBE!! The food was moving out quick. The place felt and looked clean. They had no problem answering the questions I had about the shop and what they sold. Shout out to them forreal because I was prepared to leave a not so pleasant review about my experience but I'm glad they changed that because I'll definitely be back more often than not! Thanks Chi Chi and Rell, not only providing great customer service but just for being a vibe!
