The first time I complained...The store manager called me saying if anything else happens to speak with him personally. Today, I spoke with the store manager and he didn't acknowledge my previous complaint. Basically calling me a liar to my face. It's not being taken seriously. The employee is constantly being verbally aggressive and it's normalized to the point where there isn't any repercussions. There were two regular registers with lights on. One person was at a register. I asked her if someone was at the other register. She said she didn't know. There was another employee nearby. I asked if she was at the unmanned register. She said no. I went to the first person and waited in line. Meanwhile, the other woman cleaned the other register. I checked out and moved away to bag my three items. The other woman had lied to me about not being at the other register and was ringing up other customers. Updated review: The location is perfect. Parking is free. I noticed that Harris Teeter is more focused on how long customers park in the garage. I saw a person with a clipboard on a recent trip. With several options in a small radius (Safeway, Giant, Trader Joe's, Walmart) there are some items I don't need to purchase from Harris Teeter. HT has great sales to get you in the door. If you don't need two items when they are "Buy one get one free," you can get just one item for half price. The produce section is hit or miss. There are a few items that are locally grown. I like getting tomatoes and supporting local business. Some of my favorites plant based or meat free items aren't stocked anymore (Worthington, Loma Linda). Morning Star items are stocked (less variety and priced higher than Walmart & Safeway). There are interesting clearance items that are always placed so they are noticed after I have already checked out. The store has a nice seating area for grabbing something for lunch & resting a minute. The personal touch has left the store. Even at peak shopping hours, there will only be one or two registers open. More self check out registers were added. I like interacting with a person when I check out. The shopping carts disappear quickly. If you see one in the parking area, grab it. read more

I previously gave this Harris Teeter a 1 star in part due to the constant lack of carts. I don't know if my review had anything to do with it, but in the weeks since, the carts are almost entirely fully stocked up front. No more hunting for stray carts in the parking lot, or awkwardly trying to hold my groceries in my arms as I shop. This is not a bad supermarket if you're in the neighborhood. There are a lot of self check out lanes and only 1 real cashier which is a painpoint for people who may have questions or concerns. I've waited a while at self check out for help on more than one occassion. Their hot food buffet at 9.99 is expensive for what you're getting. A lot of wet food and protein with bones, not very well seasoned. Some good deals if you look for them. read more

I've never been to an establishment with employees as regularly rude as this one. If you can do your shopping elsewhere, please do so. Behaviors you can look forward to from the staff of this location (based on 6 months experience of regularly going here): -Being bumped into by employees, causing you to drop the items in your hands in the check out line (accidents happen-this is not the issue!), then having the employee stare at you with a dirty look and walk away -Employees frequently screaming and yelling at each other, to the point where I often think a fight or confrontation has broken out. But when I look, it's just always employees talking to each other (or even to themselves?-bizarre!!) -e.g. one day I entered to be greeted by an employee screaming across the store to another employee: "SHE A BIG ASS BITCH" in front of children. This is not that notable, as this type of thing is a regular occurrence here. -Employees being incredibly rude to customers for no reason. If you greet a cashier or a receipt checker with a smile and say "hi, how are you?" the response 9/10 times is a glare, no words, and items slammed around in the check out line or the receipt rudely thrown back in your face. -Employees, the vast majority of the time, give customers dirty looks, do not reply to them, and act incredibly angry, slamming items, etc. Bad employee culture! read more

Extremely disappointed in the lack of management and security. The security guards are a joke because they spend their time chatting with the employee that hangs out at the door. Getting food service is challenging because the employees literally complain about doing their job. Best example is the deli personnel that give you a lecture if you ask for bacon on the hot bar at 8 am. After her lecture she tosses the tongs into the middle of the tray and storms off. My firm suggestion is that someone provides employee training and provide incentives for better service. Otherwise it won't be long before consumers like myself are complaining to corporate. read more

I KNOW THIS IS A GROCERY STORE!!! HOWEVER!!! One day a week they have a Prime Rib Dinner!!! I ( believe ) it's at an multiple locations possibly on different days... 11.00 PRIME RIB DINNER The meat was cell seasoned, way better than I expected, tender and juicy! The veggies were seasoned well too! You get a container of Auju, horseradish sauce( yummy)!!! There is nothing bad I have to say about this! From the time I walked in Tammi was with a big smile and had had Prime Rib for an affordable price!!! She was very friendly while she cut my fresh prime rib!! If you have a chance to stop by say Hi to Tammi! She will def get you right!!! The best part about it is you can take it home and slice it up, or over indulge!!! This is my corner store. I've hesitated to write this for a while in the hopes that things would change, and they have, for worse. Since COVID and 9+% inflation, my bills at this store have gone up 22%. I can't get a hand basket to save my life in a preponderantly pedestrian neighborhood. The employees (for the most part outstanding) openly gripe about management and policy. Hint: not an employee problem. They are the redeeming star. Tonight I went to this Harris Teeter as I have gone weekly for the better part of ten years. The checker was giving me scant attention and then got in a screaming match with her supervisor -- who yelled right back. MeanwhIle the checker stopped addressing my groceries. They were each more focused on fighting with one another than focused on me, my groceries and my experience. All and all, it was a rather horrifying experience and now I am thinking about moving my pharmacy and grocery choices to Giant. read more

The store is great for shopping. The experience is wonderful. I especially recommend checking out the delicious sub sandwiches. The customer experience is so amazing that I felt compelled to apply and become apart of the Harris Teeter family. I can personally attest that the wonderful service comes to a screeching halt once you enter your bid for employment within the company, at least at this particular location. As I sat in the customer dining area, enjoying my scrumptious turkey sandwich, carrot cake, and ice cold beverage, I called to check on the status of my application. I was told by the hiring manager(Tameka?) that I had an interview within the next hour if I wanted. I was ecstatic. I finished my meal, brushed up on my interview skills, and patiently waited for the time to come. I let the customer service desk know, 10 minutes ahead of time, that I am here for my interview. This is where the atmosphere took a shift. Once the manager spoke with me, she simply told me to have a seat and I will be with you shortly. 15 ministers go by and she comes to grab me, we proceed to walk to what I assume is the interview area, when she abruptly stops and says she forgot her keys, then she asks me to stay there, in the middle of a aisle until she returns. Another 15 minutes and she has yet to reappear. This same thing happened twice more. I began to get the feeling that she did not want to conduct the interview. When I asked her if she was still going to interview me, she became visibly and audibly upset, claiming that she is busy, that she is an employee of a grocery store. I fully understand that, but that doesn't not explain scheduling an interview a hour ahead of time, and it now being 45 minutes after said time, and nothing has been said in regards to the interview(not to mention that the store was not busy at all)Customer experience is great, unless you wish to become a employee. P.s. it feels like there is a Harris Teeter mafia within this location that includes the security guard, multiple employees, and even various managers. Stay safe read more

I tried the Harris teeter brand ice cream pints because they were buy two get THREE free. So how could I possibly say no. So I didn't. Knowing my utter LACK of self control, I managed to pawn off one of my pints to the cashier who HAPPILY took it. Nice to make someone happy hehe. Well all to say after eating half of each pint once I got home, I regret not having that fifth pint because that ice cream was AMAZING!!!!!!! I'm never eating no other ice cream, except maybe halo top because it's less calories. I had the cookie dough, the brownie and cookie dough, the hazelnut one and the strawberry cheesecake. The first three I would just mix together with a little bit of chocolate almond milk for my own homemade soft serve. The cheesecake one was different but delicious. For the past three years, Harris Teeter has been the closest, most convenient grocery store to where I live. I've been tempted many times to write a review but knew that I will continue to use it regardless so I have the time to observe it over hundreds of visits over the years and any review will be based on trends, not single incidents. There are highs and lows: Big props: There are long time cashiers who are extraordinary women. Always cheerful, no matter how busy the store gets, no matter how rude the customers, no matter how much nonsense they have to put up with from drunk or confrontational customers, they keep a smile and continue to be so pleasant that it makes me overlook some of the lesser qualities in the store. I want to give them a big hug for all the legitimate reasons they have to be angry, because lots of customers are awful, and they don't deserve the treatment they get sometimes. Also, a couple of the floor managers are really good. They'll jump in and shift people to registers to keep the flow moving, so people don't wait too long or back up. They're constantly moving around the store, picking up things that drop and helping people find things in aisles. Lows: The WORST thing the store does is that people often leave perishable foods at the cash register. Whether they decide not to buy it, or didn't bring the correct credit card, hamburger meat, eggs, milk, sushi, yogurt, ice cream, shrimp, etc. are all left at the end of the check-out line. That food is collected into one shopping cart all day. At the end of the day, once the food has been sitting out at room temperature for 5-8 hours, an employee will put all the warm food back where it came from, so a customer can buy spoiled food the next day without knowing it. This has been going on all three years, every day, for the time I've lived here. I've seen every single type of food put back. As someone who has been hospitalized for chicken that sat out at room temperature too long, I wouldn't be surprised if someone has been hospitalized or died from foodborne illness, and not known why. Also, Harris Teeter has the worst apples ever. It's like they get thrown around, dropped, and kept for months too long. Over the past three years, I've cut into at least 40 that have been rotten, moldy, and brown, green, or cobweb looking centers. I'm so so so glad that I cut the apples and don't bite into them. I've found horrifying things inside too many times. Also, even if you find a good apple, the employees bounce them off the glass when they weigh them and throw them into the bag hitting the bottom of the counter as hard as they can. No matter how much time I spend trying to find the perfect apple, they always bruise them by smacking them around and throwing them into bags like a baseball player trying to break in his mitt. Additionally, the only rude people in the store are those stocking/cleaning. As polite and wonderful as the cashiers are, the people who stock and mop are atrocious. I've had people mopping run their mop into my feet and stare at me passive aggressively, waiting for me to move. I've had carts and dollies slammed into me, my cart, my shins, legs. It's like they're angry and hate their job, so they take it out on the customers. Just this week, one gentleman pushed a dolly telling people "OUTTA THE WAY" slamming it into carts and making people run in the frozen foods section. It's ridiculous and negates all the politeness at the registers. It's hard to review the store because there are people who are so nice, trying so hard, but there are people who shouldn't be working anywhere that are making it harder on everyone. Edit: Also, one additional point. In the past 42 years I've been alive, I've never seen a grocery store where more people eat the food and then just throw it on a shelf and leave. I see customers digging into rotisserie chicken, sushi, eating bags of chips or fruit, then tossing the garbage on a shelf and walk out. It's gross and totally preventable with the amount of employees and security in the store. read more

I was there to take an exam. I was staying in Hilton Garden, Harris Teeter was right next door. The location is convenient. This place has it all. I couldn't decide especially because I was anxious about my exam the next day. I went to all three food bar - the salad bar, fruit bar, and the hot bar. All the food was delicious. I visit this location quiet often I'm beginning to see a pattern. The food items are expired frequently I'm at the point where I won't buy ANYTHING without checking Best Buy date. The items are not a few days out dated we're speaking months and years. I purchase a pasta source that when I open the jar it smell so bad that the odor fill the room. I was so upset because I was preparing a meal for my family I couldn't do some had prepare a COLD meal instead just horrible!!! It's a grocery store. Not a ton to say, but: Pros about this location: +solid wine/beer/cider selection. Best make-your-own sixer selection/price for grocery stores in the area. +good produce/cheese selection +good online coupons/savings email. I don't do my big shopping trip here but do make smaller trips because there are good deals on products actually relevant to me. +the scratch-n-dent section at the front of the store usually has some good deals and is worth checking out. Cons: -Harris Teeter's deals often require you to buy unmanageable quantities of things in order to actually save money. Things like buy 3/get 2 free on big packages of TP or ice cream. Closely examine the price tags because some BOGO items actually just ring at half-price and they just want you to buy two. -The store's layout leaves a lot to be desired. Eggs and butter are on different sides of the store, tortillas are on a random island in the back instead of the international section, a lot of the cosmetics and magazines are blocked by the self-checkout line, stuff like that. -The checkout lines are different from other stores and confusing to the uninitiated. Wait in the aisle that lines up with the cashier for your desired register, rather than the typical aisle in front of the belt. Maybe there is research that shows this is better, or maybe they just want to be different. -everyone wants to use the self-checkout even when there are other registers open, so the lines are often long. They recently added some more self-checkouts but there is basically always at least one that's not working. The scale for "use my own bag" is also extremely finicky so it's usually less of a hassle to bag it after you've paid. Of the major grocery stores in this area (Giant/TJ/HT), this is the one we go to least even though it is the closest. read more

Being a retired Navy veteran I do most of my grocery shopping at the commissary on Joint ForcrAnacostia bowling. Besides there, this store has been my primary source of groceries. Let me tell you, it has fallen off and been a disappointment of late. Just today I spoke with the manager, Jonathan M. regarding a number of problematic issues with one being my not received my delivery timely. After an hour late, Jonathan was supposed to call me back, but he didn't. Enough said and I'm done... There are too many other options in DC. read more

I had a pre-order for catering for an event, the order verified it was done around 3 but when I got there around 5:30 everything was done except one tray! They did a great job getting that last tray together under the time crunch we were in. I live in Takoma Park, which is a great little town just across the DC North West border. Unfortunately, it is a food desert and grocery store options are somewhat limited. I drive 5 miles down North Capital Street to Harris Teeter in the NOMA part of DC, every week. I absolutely LOVE this grocery store chain and this branch in particular. I find the employees at this branch to be friendly and willing to assist you in finding whatever you need. This Harris Teeter is my main go-to for all of my fresh produce and meats. They have reasonably priced organic and locally grown fruits and veggies. The meat department has a great selection of wild caught seafood, grass-fed beef, and free-range chicken. I actually find the meat department to be better than Whole Foods at times. The prices definitely are cheaper. This branch also has a great selection of beer and wine. Go ahead and try Harris Teeter. I'm sure you won't regret it. Tip: Plenty of FREE parking is available in the underground parking garage. read more
