If I could give six stars, I would, because I am a total fan! Us folks from Hawaii are huge fans of Trader Joe's! In the five days that I was in DC, I visited at least four times! Just when I thought I had enough gifts and snack to bring home to the islands, my luggage said I had space for more! What does that mean and meant going back for more goodies! The store was neat and had everything that I looked for. The staff were also very friendly. In regard to parking, I'm not sure if any parking is available. The next time I'm in DC and in the area, I'm definitely heading back! read more

Best time to shop is early morning any day of the week, especially weekends. This is likely the smallest Trader Joe's in the city, so when the crowds come the items go fast. When I decided to take a chance one late afternoon to buy chicken thighs and the shelf was empty. The crew does not appear to restock frequently when this happens. This is an issue at other local Trader Joe's, but the checkout line wraps well around the store if you come on a busy day. When the store is stocked and you can move freely around the aisles, it is a great experience. Despite it being smaller than other stores, I still find what I need a majority of the time. Other items like a graham cracker pie crust or tartar sauce I have to go to a larger grocery store. The staff is friendly every time I'm there as well. A small, but mighty TJ's located in Georgetown. I snagged a great DC TJs bag here. I actually had dinner here the first night in DC with one of their salads. But I don't like their wooden spoons and forks. They just feel weird on the tongue. Not the largest TJ I have been too, but it seems to be the only affordable food option in the area if you don't have a car. I also picked up fruit and yogurt for breakfast because the hotel wanted $8 for an egg and $5 for toast! Nice wine selection as well. read more

Went there last week at 6PM, and they were out of sliced bread. Totally out. The whole place was flooded with people and they hadn't restocked for this very predictable waive of business that happens every weekday. Yesterday, the only flavor scoopable ice cream they had was vanilla. If they are running out of products all the time, why should I rely on TJ's as a grocery source? It's so completely hit-or-miss at this location and the stock is very badly managed. Get your act together Trader Joe's--This happens all the time! Stopped in to grab a few groceries. The first thing I noticed is the store layout isn't as organized as what I'm used to (ie 14th Street, Clarendon). The food options were the same to say the very least. I thankfully didn't encounter a long line on a Friday evening. There is street parking, but we parked far and had to walk. I love Trader Joe's! This is not my favorite Trader Joe's location solely due to its smaller size, but it still has everything that I usually look to stock up on. It's always been so busy and buzzing with people shopping every time I've stopped by. As with all Trader Joe's, my favorite things to get here are the veggies and fruits which are always fresh and affordable! The frozen meals and pizza are great for busy days when I'm too tired to cook my meals. It's a generally decent Trader Joe's location, but two of the regular employees were having a conversation on the floor today about COVID and how it was all a big Bill Gates-involved plot to steal our freedom. One ended their conspiracy rant by telling the other not to give in and give up their freedom, how he understood that some people at other businesses had to get vaccinated to keep their jobs and how he was glad they didn't have to make that decision. I don't know whether this is corporate policy, but just months ago we were standing six feet away from these same employees as they had us line up outside and enter in shifts as they worked from plexiglass cubes. I don't appreciate these employees -- interacting with hundreds of customers a day and everything we're putting in our baskets -- being so dismissive about their social responsibilities. This pandemic isn't dragging on because there's a plot to make you take a communism vaccine, it's dragging on because people like these think their "freedom" is worth more than our lives and health. read more

This is a nice little Trader Joe's that I appreciate greatly due to it's close location to my work. Parking is tough nearby, so plan on public transportation or walking. Or there may just be parking that I don't know about and isn't advertised. Selections are limited to the Georgetown location and small size making it just a neighborhood store, but there is a variety of prepackaged lunches which is my main use for it. I really wish there were more desserts as this is the most limited thing here and not good for someone who is always craving chocolate after lunch like me. The cashiers are always nice and though the lines can sometimes get long, it moves rather quickly. Prices are fair for the area. read more

One of the worst location to visit. I've lived in New York a vast majority of my life and have frequently shopped at Trader Joe's. The locations there, offered all of the items needed and the staff: some were friendly and warm, while others were not. I mentioned this to say that since visiting this locations, there remains several things wrong that needs to be addressed: 1- Customer service here is the WORST! Don't expect an answer from any of the staff on the floor nor a smile. Whenever I have attempted to ask for a product, it was as if I asked them for their social security number (impossible to provide) There are a few good apples in the employee bunch but the bad outweighs the good. 2- This is a fairly small location therefore it is always crowded with some of the most insensitive prudes in DC. A questionable location, you're an immediate offense if you don't look like the majority (read between the lines) With this, expect nobody to move their carts when you've politely ask and expect people to rush products out of your hand. 3- Products: As mentioned earlier, I have lived in a state with a lot of locations so I am aware of some of the products frequently offered by them. Not at this location! It's a pescatarian's worst nightmare: finding seafood selections is HARD and they rarely have good deals on anything. It's a complete joke. 4- Check out: This might be the only place I get excited around and that's because it places me steps away from the door!! However, as with the other employees, the cashiers can be very bland and non-responsive. I often try to get to the ones that have a bit more friendliness to them and can explain my final cost instead of pointing at the screen as some have. I just don't understand this place at all. And my fault might be visiting here on Friday/Saturday evenings. Save yourself the time and commute to another location. Your money is hard earned and should be spent where you're treated like a person. read more

In the area during my G-Town walking excursion, yet or contracting in the area, either or, it's a good place to pick up a few items to hold me over. This visit was for some OJ, I just love their fresh squeezed, as it has no other added ingredients such as sugar & the price for 64 oz at $5.50 you can't beat that...had to get my must have's of Smoked Salmon & Salmon Jerky for the snack home. While I was waiting in the wrap around line I amused myself with the displays of Gourmet Gifts & Goodies for the holidays such as Popcorn Tins, Greek Olives, Olive Oil & Balsamic Vinegar Sets, Bath & Body Products, condiments, candy & so much more...even with some speciality prices. As with the other TJ locations, most of the inventory is the same, with the exception of wine & beer that is not sold in Maryland stores. Always greeted with a TJ's smile & hello, what's a better way to spend your money, especially with such a happy person like our Cashier Mahlon. Not that I'm anywhere close to the age of the longevity of TJ's, but I remember the store during my West Coast days. It's pretty cool to see how it used to be a convenient store like 7-Elven & Circle K, & now owned by the Founder of Aldi markets...grocery store evolution at its best. The best grocery store in DC! I love this place! Great deals, big selection, friendly staff, good music and lots of SAMPLES! Pros: -Service: Seriously the nicest staff ever. I know Trader Joe's is known for this, and this location is no exception! Employees really do want to help and will go out of their way to joke around with you and ask you about your day. The lines here can get ridiculously long BUT they move extremely quickly because staff are efficient and highly organized. Even a 30+ person line will be serviced in about 12 minutes. -Good selection: All the food I need and more! Lots of very good frozen meal options, and a good selection of fruit and veggies. Soooo many sweet treats as well! Someone needs to blindfold me as I stand in line by the cashiers--there are so many amazing treats in that area, I simply can't resist. -Quality: The food here is really solid! High quality produce and snacks. Lots of very healthy options and vegan and vegetarian options galore! Location: Very convenient, and great that they have parking here, as well! Price: Can't be beaten. I can spend about $30-$40 and easily get enough food for the week. So much cheaper than other grocery chains. Let me start this review by saying that in full disclosure, I am not an avid grocery shopper. **hangs head** I am trying to do better. However, going to this Trader Joe's makes me excited about getting groceries (read: wine). Yes this TJ's is small, but it is mighty. Located conveniently close to GW, for those of us who work in the city, it's a good place to stock up on food (AND WINE) at affordable prices before heading home. It may not meet all your grocery needs, but you can definitely get some key items like organic produce, baked goods, frozen foods, etc. There are also prepared foods including sushi, sandwiches, soups, and wraps. Another perk of this TJ's is that although it's small and tucked away, there is an adjoining parking garage/lot where you can park FOR FREE. That's a welcome treat in this city where most have an advanced degree in parking wars. Other tips: - Easiest to bring your own reusable grocery bags. - If you want to avoid a crowd, after work isn't the best time to go. - Buy the wine. No seriously. (Apothic Red is $9.99. What is life?) Bottom line: I love it here. The one thing that would make me love this TJ's MORE is if they started selling lactose free ice cream. Pretty please. I always feel happier leaving it than when I go in which is not something I'd ever think to say about a grocery store! Store is a bit too compact - you're always having to squeeze around people in the aisles and the lines for checkout are routinely ~10-15 minutes. Often out of stock in certain items. In my last few visits they were out of bananas one time, out of milk the next, and out of spinach the next. Staff and cahsiers are really friendly and go out of their way to help. Talk about an efficient chain of stores, with exceptional produce and food products! I am still amazed at how much they pack into Trader Joe's stores! I mean these store are half the size of your Safeway or Giant Food stores, but carry just as much inventory of high-quality items. I have been a huge fan of Trader Joe's and this has to be one of my favorite locations in the DC area. Trader Joe's is one of the few grocery stores in the city, where you can spend $50 bucks and actually have lots of food (something edible) in your purchase....other than seasonings, toilet paper, cleaning supplies, and dishwashing liquid. I mean...have you ever gone to the grocery store, spent a Benjamin ($100), and left out of there with barely anything edible to eat or at least last you for a week??!...lol...I have and would be scorned! Oops, sorry...I digress. At any rate, this is not the case at this grocery store. To be such a small store it is the most efficient grocery store that I have ever been to! It is always so well organized, fully stocked and the lines to check out move super fast! You will never see this at the major grocery chains in the city!...Especially, at the first of the month!!...If you catch my drift! The customer service at this location is on point too. Everyone is always friendly and the staff is very knowledgeable/helpful with pretty much any product in the store. The produce is always fresh, the selection of items are well-stocked and the meats are quality cuts. Not to mention, the prepared dinners and meals in the frozen section are incredible! They are a life saver when it comes to looking for a quick-fix to dinner. Honestly, this place has saved me many of nights coming home from work late and not having the time to cook something healthy. You name it...Marsala Chicken, Vegetable-Shrimp Lo Mein, Duck Confit, Gourmet Pizza, Chicken Tacos (my favorite & go to), Blackened Salmon...and the list goes on and on. The place has it all...at prices unheard of for the quality. You are bound to find everything you need here and more. Also, I find that they go out of their way to check their stock or locate just about any item that you're interested in that is missing from the shelf. The only downside to this location, is the parking. The parking garage at this location can get really bad (tight) and on weekends somewhat congested to enter/exit. But in all, this is one of my favorite grocery chains and store locations to shop for groceries. Not to mention, the "Two Buck Chuck" wines. Even though it is no longer $2 bucks, these wines are the best deal around for keeping the wine cellar stocked for guest and friends popping over! Thanks Trader Joe's for keeping me on budget, great customer service, offering affordable organic food & groceries....and most of all.....not costing me to spend a WT#%!??...'Whole Paycheck!" when I leave...like somewhere else I will not mention here! My grocery love affair begins at Costco and ends with Trader Joe's. The Foggy Bottom location has been around for quite some time now and quite honestly my experience here beats out any TJ's I've ever been to.... 'burbs included! I have an immense and intense fear of people clipping the back of my heels with shopping carts which is usually exacerbated on shopping trips to Trader Joe's but surprisingly this was not the case at this location. The aisles were wide and the shoppers friendly and efficient so instead of focusing on protecting my heels, I could take a look at all of the amazing goodness that the store had to offer. In case you were: Thai Shrimp Gyoza, Speculoos Ice Cream, Sea Salt Brownies, Panko Breaded Tilapia, Organic Spinach and Arugula, Bananas for 19 cents a lb, avocados by the bag, and cheap ass nuts. The grocery store line is intimidating but it goes by fast and they have free parking if you are taking a car. read more

It's hard to review this store because I love Trader Joe's. I mean, wine for $2.99 and delicious pre-made foods? Get in my vag! However this store specifically makes me want to kick an orphan in the face. The place is packed. Always. The line (although relatively fast moving) literally wraps around the store. Literally (photo attached). You walk in and the line of shoppers waiting to checkout goes from the cashiers, down the aisles, and ends at the store entrance. So that means in addition to waiting longer to buy your groceries, you are forced to reach over shopping carriages/people/boobs to grab the products you want. Didn't mean to motorboat ya ma'am but can you hand me that provolone cheese? They also offer free parking (awesome!) however grocery shoppers are terrible human beings and have no common courtesy. Like that blonde whale wearing teal who cut me in the parking ramp and stole my parking spot. Good thing I found Canklesaurus Rex later and reminded her that she of all people shouldn't be so rushed to buy MORE food. So yes. Trader Joe's sells great products, the staff is superb, and the store attempts to be pleasant. However the actual EXPERIENCE requires a post-traumatic box of wine and a lorazepam. read more

Maybe it doesnt always move fast but the time I was here the line moved pretty quickly and much faster than I would have imagined. Inside was crowded but I still was able to find what I wanted without issue. Store is well stocked and seemed to have a little more than the one I normally go to. Things of note: Try the frozen indian food. It's seriously delicious and great to take to work as lunch or to eat whenever. I also loved the signs they had above the oatmeal. Those made my day. When people first told me they bought food from "Trader Joe's", I envisioned a hillbilly selling food out of the back of his pickup truck, maybe or maybe not wearing pants. Little did I know this was actually an upscale grocery store. After months of hearing about it and being horrified by my own mental picture of what it might be, I finally looked it up online and discovered that it is indeed a legitimate establishment. I really love this place. The selection is kind of like Whole Foods (but less hippie) but the prices are like Safeway. I especially love it for healthy snacks and dessert. So far I haven't liked their lotion, orange juice, or plums. I wish they had a bigger selection of ice cream. Most of the ice cream I've seen there is either soy or nonfat sorbet. This is the quietest Trader Joe's at which I have ever entered and shopped... But that's not saying much. It is your regular old run of the mill Trader Joe's, but with the exception that I felt this one was much more designed on keeping you in the store, weaving through displays of food and other products in order to have you purchase more. Maybe it's that way to keep people comfortably distracted by the crazy crowd sizes? Who knows, but.. I definitely noticed it was much more of a labyrinth than other Trader Joe's. Still, this place has all that you'd expect from a Trader Joe's- fresh produce at cheap prices, juices, dried fruits, dinner and lunch entrees, breads, canned goods, toiletries, nut butters, chocolate bars, granola/ energy bars, snacks and wine/ beer. If you're in the area and don't feel like paying for higher prices down the street, this is a good choice. Just be ready for the crowded feeling, whether there is a huge crowd or not. Bring your patience, and you're well on your way to an affordable shopping TJ-style experience. read more

Ahh Trader Joes, this place is tucked away and if you didn't know it was there you'd likely miss it. Its a bit smaller than some of its suburban sister stores, but surprising a decent size considering its in the city. This place always seems to be busy and understandably so considering I haven't seen a dearth of grocery stores nearby. It is always well stocked though, they have wine and beer here and they always seem to have a good supply of staff at the check out lines so generally it does go pretty quickly. Just remember in DC you have to pay a nickel for bags so if you have your own reusable bags I'd recommend bringing those with you. read more

This was the very first Trader Joe's in the city close to GWU attracting the college crowd. With more condos going up, it's become a neighborhood grocery story as well. Compared to the other locations through DC, this one is smaller and usually more crowded. On the weekends, they usually do wine tastings so plan on stocking up on quality, less expensive wine! Also, for a GREAT cheaper lunch, grab a chicken tikka masala, naan, and chutney. It's soooo good! read more

You can always count of TJs for free coffee, some free samples and an inviting atmosphere. It is a vibe that Safeway simply doesn't have. Even Whole Foods nearby has a different vibe (with no free coffee.) The freshly prepared refrigerated soups are something that CVS and other competitors do not have. Of course the big draw is TJ brand items, dried blueberries, and even crumbled blue cheese are hard to find elsewhere and less costly at TJs. read more

This may as well be a review for all TJ's, since they seem remarkably consistent from Boston to DC at least. It's just awesome that you can get so much food for much less than you'd pay at Whole Foods, while still getting pretty much all the staples. Their house brands aren't bad. The TJ staff is also very knowledgeable about their products and can offer good recommendations. This store can often have a line that wraps around the back, but they also have a bunch of cashiers so it moves quicker than you'd imagine. My one criticism, at least for this store, is that so often the produce is below average. Just this past week we had to throw out half the produce when we got home because it was bad (and not in a way you'd notice at first glance at the store). For produce I'd still recommend Whole Foods or a CSA if you can get it. But for the rest, this TJ's is great, and it has free (albeit limited) parking downstairs. read more
