A good place for organic groceries. In DC there's a few locations, including this one. Yes! Is a local chain of organic grocery stores. Each carry a lot of healthy items and stuff that's hard to find. This one is located in Adams Morgan. Good selection even though it's not big. It looks a lot smaller than other locations. This only has a couple aisles and there's not much room to get through. It makes it feel claustrophobic. The prices here are pretty good. Fresh produce much fresher than at a typical chain. There's not a whole lot here because of the lack of space. I like this location because of the area. It's too bad it's not close to a Metro station. The best part about this market is that you can your products in bulk. They recently started accepting SNAP EBT, so that's a big advantage for people on a tight budget. Only gripe is that they are a tad pricey. read more

While we were waiting for our Uber to arrive, I decided to run across the street to check out their stock...what a good idea I had. Forget the ETA of my ride, as I was having fun intuitively strolling down each isle. Even though the store front is architecturally compacted, this place was full of everything galore. Now when I say everything, I mean almost anything you can think of relating to fresh.organic food with a grand variety of dry/bulk products, pre-package meals, a deli & even a quaint produce section. Example, one of my favorite items GoodBelly was in stock, but just the basic option, so again, it provides much of an inventory for the limited space, just not the vast variety of one product. I was overly impressed with the health & wellness section, especially the sales they had going on. They offer so many selections of herbs, vitamins, supplements & believe it or not even cosmetics. & for the best part, the confections! Oh for the sweet tooth cravings, the huge selection of candies, nutritional bars, pure chocolate goodies & specialized hard candies. There is a small amount of Vegan candy as well. After my expedited journey, I got my Mahalo & Thumbs Up candy bars, a huge bag of ground Flaxseed (banging sale on the big bag) & some good ol' bottle water. The lady who checked me out was very friendly & knowledgeable about her inventory & was kind enough not to rush me out as they were soon closing. I'm glad I made the hop, skip & a jump across the street, as I really enjoyed dabbling in my favorite type of organic market shopping. read more

YES! BLACK CUSTOMERS GET GHETTO TREATMENT This store has absolutely the nastiest employees in town who don't have a clue about customer service. I have been shopping at Yes! for over 30 years when it was located in a coop on Wisconsin Avenue in Georgetown. COLUMBIA HEIGHTS A few years ago I had to call Yes! owners after the recent immigrant making my juice screamed at me in anger when I told him how I wanted my juice mixed. I complained to owners. No, I am pro-immigration (both legal and illegal) because of the culture and economic enrichment - and diversity - they add to this country but they should be taught U. S. customer service standards by companies like Yes! who hire low wage employees. Today I bought juice and and asked for the run off and manager told me "no" because my cup was already filled. My meager request has never ever been refused at any juice bar anywhere in the world I've traveled! I protested. At the counter I was charged $.50 for 3 microscopic pieces of ginger that is included in juice. I refused to pay and got into an argument with clerk, another recent immigrant. (Cleveland Park juices include twice as much ginger at no extra charge.) The middle-age clerk refused to give me the name and phone number of owners so I called Cleveland Park store for help while standing at the counter. The young manager finally appeared and said I had gotten extra juice... (which should have been thrown away had I not asked for it). He reluctantly deleted the $50 charge. 14TH STREET I have never had any problems at the Cleveland Park store that caters to a predominately white clientele in upscale upper northwest but the Adams Morgan store and the store on 14th operate with a ghetto mentally and are rife with racism since many customers are people of color. Ghetto store policy requires customers to leave bags at door as though you came to steal and employees clearly show bias toward black customers. Cleveland Park does not. I've often refused because because cashiers often walk away from the counter and do not watch bags. I am not surprised the Yes! store in SE failed given the treatment black customers get. I wish Whole Foods would start juicing again then I could say "goodbye" to Yes! Organic Market forever. read more

I really like this market. A lot. So much that I drive from Alexandria to Adams Morgan to go here. Mainly, I stock up on Bobo's Oat Bars & Mt. Vikos Artichoke Spread, as well as bulk goods, such as lentils or spices. I cannot give it anymore than 3 stars though, because the produce selection is small and often not that fresh looking. The store is very small and hard to get around when busy (usually after work). Staff is not overly friendly, but helpful if you have questions. Definitely a good market to have around, but I still end up needing to go to Trader Joe's. read more

It's nice to have a natural/health food store in this neighborhood. It's small, but stuff is really packed in. It's hard to pass people in the aisles. They have a good variety of items, a lot of which are hard to find in DC. I never saw it as being especially great for vegetarians; their selection of staples like tofu and hummus is limited by space. Overall, their prices are quite high. The upside is that you don't need a membership to benefit from sale items (though sometimes displayed sale items don't ring up as such; make sure to check). Also, they have a great bulk section, which is good not just for beans and grains, but even some prepared items. Their fig newton-ish cookies seem expensive until you eat one and you're full. Overall, I couldn't use this place for my primary grocery shopping, but as an occasional supplement it helps. read more

Great neighborhood store. Tiny (only one person can walk down an aisle at a time), but they pack a lot in the space! Produce, breads, some miscellaneous cold meats and cheeses (and vegan substitutes), milk, eggs, some prepared salads, humus, frozen foods, bulk items like granola, soups, baby food and toddler treats, condiments, canned fruit, a baking section, a small paper products and pet section, pretty large cereal section, huge vitamin and health supplements section, baby products, cleaning supplies and toiletries, sodas and juices, chips, and bars. Ok, I am sure I am missing something but that's a bunch of it! I get great customer service here--I usually have a stroller with me (makes those aisles challenging), and they always hold the door for me on the way out. read more

I have lived up the street from this place for the past three years and this is the first time that I've stepped into this market. My neighbor usually comes here and she had just had a procedure and wanted to go to the grocery store. I didn't want her to go by herself because she had taken additional medication that would have made her dizzy and unable to be balanced. So, in coming here I found a couple things to buy. One of them was a sprouted bread that was cheaper than the brand I had gotten before. I also got some brussel sprouts, eggs and some shiitake mushrooms. I'm really excited about the mushrooms because I've never really cooked with them before. This place has a lot of items that I did want to get, however I know that the prices are a little high compared to some other stores. So I bought just a few items, but will be back soon to try other fresh produce. I have to thank my neighbor for reminding me of the store that is so close to home. read more

The produce selection here doesn't bother me like it seems to bother a lot of other reviewers. I pick up my fruits and veggies at farm markets and CSAs, so I don't usually come to organic/natural stores looking for fruit and vegetables anyway. I come for the dry goods, frozen items, and prepared foods you can't find a lot of other places. Items I found to love here at Yes!: - Tofurky Roast Beef and Peppered Turkey deli slices. Most places carry only Hickory Smoked. - Lightlife Vegetable Tempeh. Most places carry only Three-Grain. - Dr. Praeger's Bombay Veggie Burgers. Most places carry only Original. - Nate's meatless meatballs, mushroom and Italian. - Better Than Bouillon Vegetable Base. Most places don't carry the veggie, let alone the organic line. - the ginger people Spicy Apple Ginger Chews. Most places carry only the Original. - Baked, smoked tofu sandwiches, and meat free "chicken" salad. Most places don't carry this ish, period. - HappyBaby HappyPuffs. They make a great snack at only 25 calories a serving. Stop judging me... - RealFoods Corn Thins, unfiltered ginger beer, Nature's Path Lotta' Apricotta bars, bulk "corn nuts" and all-natural wasabi peas (none of that artificial green dye!). The folks who work here aren't especially friendly, prices are high, and the store is cramped. But it's packed with so much specialty food I have trouble finding elsewhere that I can overlook the minor inconveniences. read more

OK, poisonous potatos aside, Yes! has grown on me. The employees are more polite these days, maybe because they recognize me as a local. I still think that their fresh produce selection is crap, but I'm loving the bulk section, which permits you to buy whole spices, grains, pulses, nuts, dried fruits and cereals at a reasonably low cost and in sane quantities. I prefer buying whole nutmeg as and when I need it so that it doesn't go stale. I also appreciate their inventory of culinary exotica, including harissa, preserved lemons, oyster sauce, nuoc mam, and all the other delicious condiments that are missing from normal supermarkets. Oh man, Yogi teas. This is nothing to do with Yes! itself, per se, but I just bought a box of "Women's Dong Quai Tonic" tea which is supposed to do magical things for women's health and hormonal balance. My hormones have been out of wack lately and I've had a hell of a time suppressing the urge to scream at everyone. Anyway, so I brought it to work and brewed a steaming cup of tea--as the fragrance wafted over to me, I realized that there is no way I'd be able to drink this sucker because it smells exactly like a herbal pork soup we have back home called bak kut teh (pork bone tea). Indeed, I looked up the recipe and the spice/herb blend for the soup is exactly the same as that of the tea. So it looks like I'll be using the teabags to make pork soup in the future. read more

I have been a regular, if reluctant, customer of Yes! since they opened, alternating between good experiences and bad ones. The prices are absurdly high and the produce of questionable quality, but they are nearby and I like the idea of supporting neighborhood businesses. Today's experience turned the tide for me. I won't set foot in the store again. With a loaded basket of groceries, I was in the back of the store and "nature was calling" loudly. Spying toilets just inside the stock room but clearly visible to customers, I asked a woman at the sushi/soup and coffee prep area if I could use the restroom. I expected a courteous positive reply. Instead she said simply, "No" and turned to her colleague and laughed. I said, "Excuse me," thinking maybe there was a misunderstanding. She repeated, "I said No!" Had I received a courteous explanation that their policy is not to allow customers to use the restrooms, I might have been understanding. But to be treated like scum in a neighborhood market was unacceptable. I dumped the contents of my basket and left the store. I assume the older Asian man at the front of the store was the owner/manager, and when I explained what had happened, he just stood there staring at me. I suspect the woman in question was a relative. Despite being newly vegetarian, I'll take my business to Harris Teeter or Whole Foods. You would expect that a small neighborhood business would treat its regular customers with respect. read more

Ok, this review is impossibly biased, so take it with a grain of salt. When I first walked in the door I was struck by a wave of nostalgia and homesickness so instense it (embarrassingly) brought a tear to my eye. This store is an EXACT replica of the tiny, cramped, over-stuffed health food stores I frequented as a child in Boulder, Colorado. I walked in and felt like I had been transported through a wormhole to my hometown in 1987 (prior to all the natural grocers being bought up by Whole Foods, the Wal-Mart of health food stores. But that is another rant for another day.). I have found so many things here that I haven't been able to find anywhere else in DC. Examples: decent bulk bins, bulk nutritional yeast, dried mung beans, an array of lentils, a moderate selection of Yogi tea (my mom and sister still send me my favorites from Colorado), bulk spices and herbs, an impressive selection of natural health and beauty items. Drawbacks: I think the vitamin and supplement selection and prices are better at Whole Foods. The produce section is unimpressive, as has been noted by other reviewers. The selection in general is limited, since it's a tiny space. Strengths: This is a great place to wander in, look around, and pick up something new and exciting. Find an ingredient you've never used before and figure out a good way to cook it. The bulk bins make it possible to buy just a little of something and try it out. That way you aren't stuck with a 2 pound package of buckwheat groats you detest. I couldn't afford to do my main grocery shopping here, nor would I try to do so. But for fun, natural foods, hard to find ingredients, and a little taste of Boulder in DC, I love Yes! Organic Market. read more

Though suddenly I found myself saying NO! as almost all of the produce I looked at was bruised, dis-colored and flat out not what you'd expect at a boutique organic market. Yes! is a great place to round out your grocery shopping routine. While Safeway is good for cheap commodities (like cat litter and domestic beer) and Whole Foods is good for that hard-to-find vegetable from the Andes Mts. or fair trade sheep's milk, Yes! closes the gap with inexpensive, high-quality, everyday produce and less expensive bulk foods like rice, granola, coffee and other dry goods. They also offer pricey, packaged foods similar to WF, like the Newman's Own brand. Add to that daily hot soups, an array of exotic cold case beverages, vitamins, spices, medicines (incl. homeopathic if that's your thing) and household products. Yes! has a lot to offer in a small space, but because it's not a "hot spot" it is rarely crowded. Even if this is the case you don't really notice as people seem to relax and take their time here. P.S. They take credit/debit here, as long as your total is at least $10. read more

As I was checking out today, I asked the lady by the counter if she could help me out with putting the products I bought in my bag. She gave me an attitude and told me "NO" she doesn't do that. Then she preceded by saying that it is NOT nice for me to ask her help me out. This is so absurd because she knows me very well. As a valued customer, I have never been treated in this way. Shop here before you go to Whole Foods! I'm pretty sure Whole Foods just copies the Yes! sales flier. Overall, their prices are not higher than Whole Foods', but it will be more expensive than Trader Joe's. Shop here instead of Whole Foods and support a local, family-owned business. You also won't have to wait in a dreadfully long line to pay the same prices. You'd be surprised how much stuff they can fit in this tiny store. I have found that they usually have things in stock, even when they are on sale, and even when Whole Foods is out of the same items. I have also found that they have a wider variety of products, which is not what you would expect from a small store. They have more gluten free grains than Whole Foods has, and they are much easier to find. They have just as many bulk spices, although their spices are a little more expensive than Whole Foods'. While I have sometimes left Whole Foods frustrated and empty handed because they happen to be out of everything I went in for, that never happens to me at Yes! Usually the opposite is true - I wind up with what I wanted plus a little extra something that happens to be on sale. The aisles are way too narrow. I'm not sure if you could get through in a wheelchair, and there is barely enough room to squeeze by other customers. Still, I'll take this place over Whole Foods. I'll save (1) money on gas and (2) a little bit of my sanity. read more

There is pretty much no where else to get the kind of produce they have here anywhere in the area. Say Yes! I said yes and you should too! Yes! Organic Market has some of the best selection of natural, organic skincare, haircare and health section I've seen! The store is not large, but they do have a lot of items there that are organic and natural. I went in for the skincare and it's tucked away in the front corner of the store. Walk in, make a left and there you have it! All of the natural products you could think of are there. I got excited when I saw how many products they have and I probably spent a good 45 minutes trying to decide what I wanted. Think of this tiny section as the Ulta of the natural products world for all of you product junkies out there! While I didn't look at the food, there was a good selection and I wouldn't mind going back to check out their granola, trail mix, what have you. So, in sum, if you are into natural, sulfate, paraben free products then get on over to Yes! Organic Market and you too will say Yes! read more

Great quality and fair prices! They have a wide variety of gluten free products, a big range of brands. Their natural medicine isle is also pretty interesting. Yes Market is for sure a great source of daily supplies. The hours are also really helpfull, they open 7 am to 10 pm on week days. Although, the customer service could be way better. This market is kind of a chick store. About 1/8 to 1/4 of the store is taken up by natural/organic beauty products, which is awesome. Another 1/8 is vitamins and nutritional supplements. Another 1/16 is teas. Yay. And they have Yogi teas (which were on sale today for $2.99 -got my Moon Cycle tea - which is hard to find!). This is a safe bet for finding natural products that you can't find elsewhere. I'm a little disappointed with their spice selection. It's pretty small. I have an admittedly unreasonable expectation that a natural food store should have every spice not available at most grocery stores. But, nonetheless, the spice selection is still lacking here. For a tiny store, they sure have a great variety of foods. They have a good selection of dairy: cheeses, yogurts, etc. This is consistent with the chick theme. They also have lots of dried fruits, including unsweetened, and dried beans. Lots of juices, too. read more

Let me start off by saying I'm not a vegetarian and I actually don't worry too much if my produce is organic (especially since it goes bad so fast). I am trying to eat more veggies though, and trying to eat less meat, and I care a lot about how the animals that become my meat are treated. But in general I'm happy to hit any grocery store for my staples. I found this place by accident just wandering around my (new) neighborhood a few months ago. It looks dinky from outside, but for such a small (and cramped) space they actually have a lot of stuff. I am constantly surprised by how much stuff I end up leaving with after I run over for some milk. As one would expect, lots of cereals, bulk foods, tofu, and Amy's stuff. But they also have lots of ready-to-cook ethnic stuff, yogurt, juices, crackers, chocolate, kimchee, hummus, frozen fish, and other good stuff. The produce seems a bit sketch to me, but that may be because I am used to perfectly preserved, commercial produce. I do wish Whole Foods was closer. Or a Wegmans, I went to my first Wegmans this week near Dulles - that place was sweet. But I digress :) read more

My thoughts about the less than stellar prices: Organic+tiny market space = less room to store mass amounts of products therefore, pricey. Deal with it... or go to McDonald's for a $1 micro'd burger (except, please don't). :) I don't live in DC but my friend lives directly across the street from this little gem and the convenience alone is awesome! Especially when w/o a car and a Whole Foods or Trader Joe's nearby... and even more-so convenient when it is 20 degrees outside. I am vegan. My friend is a vegetarian/aspiring vegan and we went to Yes! at least twice yesterday and discovered vegan "chicken" salad and picked up some essentials like hummus, baby carrots and spelt bread. Sure the prices are a little more steep than Safeway for things like veggies, but exercising the value of supporting a small and local market makes up for it. Folks living in the Adam's Morgan neighborhood aren't privy to the joys of walking to and shopping at a Wholefoods Market. No, but Yes! Organic Market is a great substitution. It's a small market (and not really a chain, hooray!) chock full of many of the packaged health food varieties you'd find at WF. Vitamins, skin products, protein bars, wild rice, tofu, cereal, fresh juice, cookies, canned goods. What do you need? I hope it isn't produce, because (understandably so) that is a bit lacking. The prices may be slightly higher than WF, but the convenience factor weighs in considerably. **OPINION PRINCESS HOT TIP** Since it's next to impossible finding a parking space on Columbia Road, park on the small neighborhood streets behind it --- they don't have meters either! read more

Organic Please While I thought high prices would keep me out of this place and still traveling to Trader Joe's in Foggy Bottom or Bethesda, I was pleasantly surprised by how affordable most of the food is (especially for organic frou-frou stuff!). This is especially the case if you stick to buying food as close to its most simple and natural form as possible (fresh fruits and veggies, organic grains, dried fruits, etc.). Moreover, this place its way bigger than it looks and has everything from shampoo and vitamins to faux-meat products and non-dairy ice cream to gluten-free bread and frozen pizzas. This store offers some things that Safeway, Giant, WF, and Trader Joe's cannot, and that is a FANTASTIC BULK SECTION. I just got 15 different bulk spices for $7.68. I'm making Indian curry pastes this week and needed a bunch of spices, but didn't want to pay $5x15 just on jars of spices that would just go bad before I even finished using them (ahem, McCormick). Most of the spices I got were $1/oz and I just got as much as I needed from each. Fantastic! As far as I can see, this store is good only for its bulk section (which also features several variations of quinoa, many varieties of granola, steel cut oatmeal, soybeans, TVP, hummus powder, other grains, beans, nuts, spices, herbs, etc.) I certainly would not go out of my way to buy fresh produce here. The selection is limited, the quality not as good as WF, and definitely more expensive than other grocery stores. However, if you live nearby, then the convenience outweighs the cost.
