It's worked well for birthday, Christmas, and retirement gifts. I'm still not pleased going to a government store, as Virginia refuses to give way to private industry. They'll allow gambling and weed, but don't think they'll ever cede to capitalism with booze. This is unfortunate, as the prices for liquor are high. Then again this is a good location, considering it's run by Richmond. Getting in and out of here is relatively straightforward. The Christmas sets for Johnny Walker or Jim Beam are excellent. Very classy and make for nice gifts in our Scotch Irish family. The employees are really polite. Also they are extremely knowledgeable, and check out time won't be an arduous process. Do I wish it would be privatized? Sure. Yet until then, this is one of the better ABC stores in the area. read more

I came here to pick up an online order and the Asian cashier/worker guy was basically an asshole! Acted like he didn't know what a "pick up" order was and just was looking about dumb and seemed confused kept asking what my name was! After saying it like 3xs a customer in line told me if you didn't come get your order within a couple of days by law they would have to put the items back on the shelf. Why in the hell didn't this "worker" know or mention that to me!?! Especially when I called stating if it will be ok if I can't come get the times until Thursday! And was told that "it would be fine"! So yeah I will most likely not ever come back to this ABC store even though it's close to my Trader Joe's and has some items I can't find at my nearby ABC stores...only time will tell! read more

One of few ABC stores that I went into that is super clean, shelves are well organized and sales specialist very friendly. I don't ever go to ABC store but I had to buy a present for a dear friend who happens to love Jameson Black Barrel :) so I made a special trip. As I was checking out the cashiers system was going extra slow so check out time took a bit long :/. At the end, I was out and on my way home and my friend loved his present. read more

Not surprised to see mediocre reviews. I will never go to this location again. Patronizingly loud mouth employees that have had no training on basic customer service. Or any sense of common courtesy. Poorly managed, poor selection, and overall location is sad and depressing. I recommend going to the McLean location. Drive the extra miles to have a better experience and you'll feel better about where you've spent your money. read more

I'm super happy with this store because after searching, and calling many other stores, this one had the type of alcohol I was looking for. Very good selection of liquors ranging from the lowest of the low shelf (like those ones that are basically part of the floor) to the highest of the high! Then I got my tequila on! My second foray into a liquor store run by "the Man" took me to the Virginia ABC Store in Springfield Plaza. Nestled in strip mall just a few stores down from the Trader Joe's, the ABC store was clean, well lit, and well-stocked with most, if not all, of one's booze needs. Like the ABC store in Alexandria (and probably every one in the state of Virginia) the selection was great for whiskey/whisky (Bourbon, Scotch, Irish...you name it!), vodka, rum, and gin. It was a bit lacking in cordials and liqueurs. Prices were competitive with those in the District...some higher, some lower...on most products. I didn't find exactly what I was looking for, but I did find something that would work so I can't complain too much. Frankly, my only gripe about this ABC store is that, inside and out, it was so generic that I'm surprised they didn't have bottles of booze with plain white labels that simply read, "Gin", "Rum", or "Vodka". read more

I'm guessing that all Virginia ABC stores are similar, and this is the only one that I've shopped at so far. But I can say that it has a nice selection and a clean pleasant set up. The prices are what they are (it is a state store). But compared to the taxes in other parts of the metro area there are good. In all the times I've been there, there is only one thing I couldn't find, Żubrówka, but based upon Virginia ABC online catalogues, I don't think it's actually available in Virginia. As a whole, it's good enough that I won't be looking for another location any time soon. read more

This particular ABC store is not my favorite. I have been in here twice and both times the person behind the counter has been kind of rude. I came here Tuesday with my boyfriend to look for my dad a birthday present and came out very pleased! Both the people behind the counter were so sweet and incredibly helpful! They didn't mind that I was basically clueless with what I was looking for and helped me pick out a good scotch for my dad! I was a bit nervous giving it to him because I was worried he wouldn't like it but he called me a few hours later to tell me how much he love the scotch! I have a hard time understanding why people feel they deserve so much for doing so little. I walked into this store tonight, 2 employees at both registers but neither of them could be bothered by me to say even Hello. I started looking at some Vodka's but they were both closing their registers at the same time? The store closes at 9 and it's 25 minutes till. Neither employee asked to help or if I was looking for something particular. I made my own choice and walked up to the register closest to me, but the girl didn't even acknowledge I was there. So I moved to the other one. My cards chip failed to read, when this happens it often prompts you to insert it a few times before asking you to slide it. The clerk looked at me and asked me if I had another card? I said no this hasn't happened before on this card, can't you just slide it? He said I can't do anything for you! I went to 7-11 and my chip worked without any problem. read more

I visited this location for the first, and last time today. I went there because this location is supposed to have a wider selection than some of the smaller stores. When I asked the middle -age bald gentleman behind the counter for a specific type of vodka, he did not have the courtesy to look up from the magazine he was flipping through; his response was "we don't have that". I guess the two customers in the store was too overwhelming for him; as was courtesy and customer service.
