Total Wines, it seems are not all created equal. When the very first one opened on Long Island, I felt like Pinocchio visiting Pleasure Island. New York has a dopey law that beer and liquor can't be sold in the same room so they split up the stores into two stores. Cool right? This Total Wine it seems was an older concept. My wife is shopping next door so I decided to get some go go juice before checking into the hotel. I walk in and the store seems smaller than my hometown Total Wine. I ask the front desk, where is your Bourbon section? Oh, we don't carry Bourbon I'm told. (Jaw drops) What?? I see they carry Cigars. It's not in a walk in humidor but in a beer type case? I'm I being punked?? I gather my thoughts and change up my plan: bottle of bubbly for wifee and craft beers for ma-self. Went on Friday evening after thanksgiving day to purchase wine.. I went with my daughter & my cousin who both live with me. The cashier before even asking for my ID put the bottles aside & told me I wouldn't be able to purchase. I told her I'm 24 & showed her my ID.. she then tells me she needs to see my cousins ID, I tell her that she's 20 & I'm the one purchasing. She then tells me she can't sell to me because I have minors with me. I told my cousin to just go to the car with my daughter. The cashier told me she still can't sell me the wine.. I asked so if I go drop them off home would you then sell them? She said No I'm still not selling anything to you. I told her what difference does it make if they live with me.. so then I would back the day after to purchase them.. she then told me that she would remember me & not sell me the wine. Mind you.. this is after doing some wine tasting, looking around the store for a good 20mins. They saw me tasting the wine.. shopping around.. yet you wait till I'm about to purchase to tell me I can't.? The cashier wasn't even polite, she had a face worse than a 13 year old when you tell them no. We left with no wine.. came back with my husband while we were all waiting in the car & he bought some. I've been to this location several times as I'm only 5mins away, have came in with my 16year old brother so he can help me pick things up & never once have I been told anything or to show his ID. This cashier was just rude & not having a good day I'm guessing. I'm giving it 2 stars because their prices are honestly the best & they always have what I'm looking for in stock. There are a few problems with this location. The first problem it's understaffed, and there's never enough cashiers for the store. You always have long lines with only one or two registers open yet they have something like 8 registers. As much as I know, self checkout lines, take away from jobs if you don't have the staff for the amount of customers, then you need self checkout lines. Customers with one item have to wait in a long line behind customers with full shopping carts. I've never had a problem with spoiled or outdated food as they have the volume of customers to continually buy. This is a no-frills grocery store and I guess Aldi's sticks with that, but not having friendly staff. I've never had anyone on the sales floor ask if they can help me find something welcome me or thank me for shopping. read more

Great selection of liquors! Came to buy a couple of wine bottles and ended up leaving with so much stuff! Who knew a liquor store could be this fun, they have all kinds of cute gadgets, party gifts and even candy!!! They have the cutest sugarfina boxes full of gummies, and different candy. Simply put, I love total wine. Their selection is unparalleled and they are always so helpful. During COVID, my neighbors and I have been doing semi-weekly wine tastings and Total Wine has always come through. And the beer selection is strong too! I also really enjoy this location's curbside pickups. They are quick to get your order out to you, friendly at delivery, and I've never had an improperly delivered item. On a Sunday evening the staff are no where to be found to ask for advice and location of products in the store. The staff, when found, are not knowledgeable of wines or the industry. The store is very organized, by regions and by wine types. I love it!!! 2. Free tasting from 1-8pm on Friday & Saturday. They featured mostly 2 reds and 2 whites and sometimes a dessert wine. If you are here and don't know where to start, this is a good starting point to help you! Pro tip: if you want your wine to be cold by then time you get home, there's a free chiller by the registers. This place closes early but they are forgiven because their alcohol selection is great! Was headed to a party and needed a couple of wine bottles and ended up buying 5. They have a wine tasting booth, which was closed when I was here, but I thought was a cool thing to have. I need to do some research and figure out when they do the tastings. I am a big beer fan, and they had a pretty big selection of imported ones. I was in a hurry and didn't but any but I will be back to check them out. I liked the fact that they had a lot of snacks, and pretty much everything you would need for a party. It seems like it's a one stop get pretty much all you need. Visited on 8/21 -- Was followed by multiple employees while browsing through the aisles. Unclear whether it was due to age or race. Specifically one white, male employee with long hair and a white woman who seemed to be the manager. Each time I would pass by, they would suddenly be right next to me pretending to stock or look at products. Then I was followed out of the store as another manager (white male) and the same employee with long hair were organizing the shopping carts ... an hour before closing. My late wife regularly bought her wine at Total Wine, and I would go along with her and get non-alcoholic beer. I would also get one to three beer boxes, which we used to hold our recycling of paper products. Today, I went and bought my usual NA beer, even buying a more expensive brand than I usually do. When I checked out, at first they REFUSED to give me ANY beer boxes. They said they didn't have any, but I could see WITH MY OWN EYES, a big stack of them. My family visited your store 6801 Bland St, Springfield, VA 22150 at last night at approximately 5:30 p.m on 26 Dec 2021. My father was looking for a bottle of Paul Hobbs. An employee an approached us and inquired if we needed help. My father explained to him he was looking for specific type of Paul Hobbs wine. The employee offered a different type of wine. My father explained that was not the type of wine he was looking for. The employee "yea,yea, I know what it is" in a rude tone. Needless to say it was not the type of customer service I would expect when purchasing a $175.00 bottle of wine. Our family left your store without purchasing anything. Lost a customer and a sale. I recommend you continue to educate your employees on customer service as the attitude the employee took was well "not conducive to whom someone is in retail and in sales". It will be a very long time before I return to your store in Springfield, VA. Giant has better wine and customer service than you do. It's it's disheartening and really sends the wrong message that the two black owned wines, black girl magic and bellaire rose, are behind the counter noted as "high theft" items. but you can buy every other wine and it's class right off of the shelf. that put a very bad taste in my mouth and sends a very wrong message. read more

The Springfield Total Wine may not be the biggest store in the Total Wine empire, but I always seem to find something worth trying at a fair price. Or more accurately, I never leave the store without buying at least one bottle of vino. The staff is friendly and helpful in suggesting some good wines for whatever situation you're looking to have wine. On Saturday afternoons, they have tastings. On this particular trip, the GF and I tasted the 2005 Beaucanon Napa Valley Cabernet Franc. It was a very enjoyable wine given the circumstances (i.e. out of a plastic sample cup) with spicy notes and a hint of cocoa. After all of the years I've lived in Springfield, I did NOT know that there was a Total Wine here. I've been driving all the way to Fairfax or Tyson's just to pickup my favorite international beers or a bottle (or should I say bottles...) of wine. Thank goodness my boyfriend brought me here the other day because we needed to pickup bottles of wine for a Thanksgiving potluck we were attending, or else I would have never known about it! There is an overwhelming selection of wine and beer. You can find bottles for as low as $5, and there's absolutely every kind you can think of here, from chianti, bordeaux, sauvignon blanc, moscato, ice wine, pinot noir, chamborcin and from different countries as well! I'm in love with their selection of Asian beers (Tiger and Hitachino Nest White Ale are on my list of top 5 favorite beers) and they also have a great selection of Belgian ales. If you like wine, this is the place to shop and stock up. Second, there's the incredible beer selection. My fav beers from all across the country and around the world can be found here. Have a fav beer that you can't find in the normal liquor or grocery stores? You're almost guaranteed to find here. I literally let out a little squeal when I saw Abita Restoration Ale (my absolute fav). And there is everything from 12+ boxes to individual bottles. I personally love the selection of individual bottles as it's a great way to try new beers. This place can be seriously dangerous. I don't think I've ever walked out with less than $100 in my cart. This Total Wine is small compared to the McLean store. It has a variety of selection of wine types and beer, but it does not have a large selection in each type. Example is they don't carry Tommasi Amarone, which is one of the most common and best Amarones. They do have a few Amarones, but I was surprised by the limit of them. This is true of many selections. Beer is the same for the cases; however, they do have a very good selection of individual beers to purchase as singles. I have not seen this level of individual beer selections anywhere before. Prices are the same as other Total Wines and their sales run the same as other Total Wine stores. It's an ok Total Wine. Limited but it should give you a variety to chose from, but may not have a specific bottle of you're looking for a specific favorite. read more

This is by far the best place I've found to satisfy my beer snobbishness. Most of the store is wine, obviously, but they also have a great beer selection. They have a full isle of American microbrews, an isle of World beers, and sections for cases of beer as well as a large selection of singles. They also sell kegs; I haven't gotten one there, but I remember thinking that they had a pretty good list. I really do like this wine shop... a lot. very much a lot. I often stop here on my commute home from work, because it's right there near the mixing bowl and well, we all know how DC traffic can get some days. OK, let's be honest, most days. And what better way than to settle the traffic nerves than by stopping and looking at BOOZE until the traffic dies down. Perfect, no? Well, I digress, let's actually talk about the place shall we? They ahve a very nice selection of wines from all over the world. They divide them up by varietal and by region. And the thing I like is that you can really get a lot of good deals here. The wines are not all over priced. If you want to drop a boatload of cash on a bottle or two of wine, you sure can. But if you want to stock up on a bunch of $5 bottles, you can do that too. What I really like is that they have a nice section of local Virginia wines in the stores as well. It's a pretty decent assortment of them as well. They have beers and sake as well. There is also a large cigar humidor in the shop, but the cigar selection is pretty much limited to your standard popular lines. And the cigar prices are a lil high. But, we don't come here for cigars... we come here for wines! They do tastings at certain times as well, so definitely stop in when they are tasting, because that is a good way to get a feel for some new wines if you're a little unsure about just buying a bottle straight out. I've been shopping at Total wine for years on and off and recently have been purchasing quite a bit of champagne wine and prosecco. My fiance and I came in the Springfield location 2 days ago and had the pleasure of meeting Marcus and Kat. It was late and the store was close to being closed for the evening but Marcus and Cat took their time to make sure that my fiance and I were educated on the best and most popular champagnes and wines for the new year. I cannot thank them enough. They went above and beyond what a normal store employee/ manager would do. I've ran big box / brick and mortar stores on the west coast for years and this is the type of customer service that I give and I expect all of my employees to give. Marcus and Cat, you guys are rock stars and corporate should definitely recognize this review. I know that myself as a territorial manager always look at my reviews for all of my stores and reward my employees accordingly for their hard work and dedication to Great customer service !
