I visited the store this afternoon, looking for a bottle of wine to gift to a neighbor of mine who plowed my driveway during the recent storm. I know that he and his wife like Sauvignon Blanc. But the range of the selections at Total Wine is so broad that I sometimes feel a bit overwhelmed. Thankfully, Joshua was able to help me out. After offering me a taste of a Sauvignon Blanc, he was able to guide me to several quality wines that he recommended and that satisfied my price point. On my trip today, I discovered they have downsized their international beer aisle and now they're all packed together in the far back corner of an aisle. Total Wine & More is a great store for wine, hard cider and beer. Don't make the same mistake we did coming from D.C. In Virginia, liquor must be sold from a ABC store. Total Wine DOES NOT have liquor. Once you know that, enjoy browsing aisles after aisles of wine from all around the world and craft beer. It's one of the few places that sells Earthquake Zinfandel, our favorite red wine from California. Total Wine also has a half aisle dedicated to hard cider! The prices aren't horrible. read more

Total Wine is the Disneyland for adult beverages, and more. All locations have outstanding customer service: If you are looking for something, you will get attentive and informative help on classification and best value. But my primary review here is for the wine classes I have been attending at this location, led by Vince. The classes are a great value: At least 9 hand-picked wines to be tasted, tons of information in 2 hours, and you get a good-sized charcuterie box with tons of good cheese and meats. Classes sell out pretty quickly, but I can easily say this is the best classroom one could be in. Vince has great sense of humor and balances information with entertainment. read more

This is my first Total Wine store I've visited in Virginia. Unlike the others I visit in MD and Fl, this one did not have liquor due to the liquor laws in VA. On a good note, they had more room to stage their products, and offer a wider variety of beers and wine. They did have a cold beer cave, and walk in self serve cigar humidor. They didn't have a large selection of wine accessories and gifts like some of the stores I've been to, that have an entire section dedicated to those items. They also have kegs, which you can find their available inventory and prices on a chalkboard above the beer cooler. Mostly, I enjoyed the clean openness of the store. Many stores seem over crowded with products and the isles are narrow. I liked their staging of the wines and other items that had me stopping to take a second look. At the time I arrived there was a good amount of people at the testing station-this made me sad because I love to "taste" wine. I am doing some last minute Christmas shopping and decided to stop at the new location advertised for 6 blocks on Jefferson Davis Hwy. I'm glad I stopped here! My first trip- I bs'd on trying to find gifts- which was overwhelming at the time because my friend decided to FT me about. Man she met while grocery shopping. The lines weren't long, the staff was friendly and check out was a breeze. After I got home, I decided to search the total wine's website and found this super cute Italian wine gift basket. Unfortunately, delivery was not an option for this item so I called to see if it is still in stock before venturing to Springfield. The woman I spoke with was super nice and informed me there were three baskets left in stock. I asked if I could purchase it over the phone and pick it up in the morning, she stated it wasn't an option. So I got in my car and went back to Total wines. I stopped a worker to ask about the basket. It turns out she was the woman I spoke with on the phone. She pointed me to the baskets. She is super nice btw! Checkout was a breeze and the cashier was super helpful and friendly! She told me the benefits of downloading the app (which I did!). What a full store!! This location has not been renovated like some of the other locations, but still serves its purpose just as well!! Located conveniently at the end of the shopping center, you can't miss it! The staff here is so friendly and helpful, if you need help finding something or they don't have what you are looking for and need a suggestion they aim to please. Selection is plentiful from wines and beers alike. If you are a novice or a beginner they offer educational classes to get you ramped up or keep you going on a journey of all things wine and beer. As if a stand alone rating room is not enough, they also offers free tastings on the weekends from 1pm to 7pm. If you come here often, which to me is more than twice in one month, make sure you sign up for the rewards club so you always get the most bang for your buck!!! read more

The employees at the Little River TNPK location were friendly and eager to assist. I have been shopping at Total Wine for a few decades now. Started back when it was called Total Beverage. Back then it would overwhelmed my senses when I first shopped there, due to all the products that were available. Now the store formally known as Total Beverage feels less chaotic, though the qualities of the products are still excellent, their cigar selections are just as good as before, which is the only products I most likely to buy there. Though the prices are just average IMO, I can probably find better prices if I shop around or wait for the delivery. But who has time for that if a person just wants to be instantly gratified? Why not go some place like Total Wine where you can get all the stuff you need all at once? Perhaps they will starting to sell the recreational cannabis products once that becomes a thing in VA. Then it will truly be the adult toy store. read more

I admit that there are a few buildings in the world that often bring me to the verge of tears, not Old Yeller getting shot tears mind you, but more like Ralphie on Christmas morning with his Red Rider BB gun tears, Yup, The Sistine Chapel, The Sydney Opera House, Versailles, and yes, Total Wine & More have all brought tears of joy to this Yelper's eyes. Of course, the first three are understandable, but the last one may need a bit of explanation. First, there is the wine; tons and tons of wine as far as the eye can see, but since my knowledge of wine extends insomuch as white goes with fish an poultry and red goes with beef, and popcorn goes with both red and white wine, I will move to the beer. Oh, yes, a cathedral of beer, with such rare brands that my knees weakened at the sight of their rare Belgium tastiness. However, what really sold me on Total Wine was that they had Lucky Buddha Beer, a beer that comes in an artistically shaped Buddha bottle and Beerlao, a Laos beer that, until recently, could only be found in its country of origin. My six pack of Beerlao was just as delicious as I remembered, and yes, I think Laos is calling my name again. I do suggest that you check out Total Wine's website, for they have so many beers in this store that it is really better to go into this place with a game plan. I was at check out buying the beer I always get there so I know the price. I had not been paying attention to the total until I got the receipt so I went back in line and let the cashier know the sign had a lower price. He was SOOO NICE which made me feel more bad with how the manager Colleen was treating him. He had called her over to help him with my price adjustment. Words can't even explain how rude this woman was. The customers in line were looking at her in disbelief, myself included. She was talking down to the cashier who was really nice I didn't catch his name unfortunately, but if I was him I would complain to HR. A customer went up to her to ask for boxes she straight up yelled at her saying no. When I was browsing she walked by me cursing very loudly. Maybe Colleen was having a bad day I don't know, but there's no reason to be mean and rude and take it out on strangers and your employees. She had taken me to another register was slamming everything down was punching into the keyboard I was biting my tongue because I did not want to cause a scene. I didn't think me wanting a price adjustment was a big deal but apparently it was. It's scary if this is how she is 24/7 those employees don't deserve to be mistreated. This is my local total wine I always come here and all the other managers are always so nice and helpful so this is incredibly disappointing especially coming from someone who is supposed to be a leader. This total wine is HUGE. We were in the area this weekend and needed some supplies and decided to stop in instead of hitting up a grocery store. Most TW&M's selections are really good, but on top of the normal stuff, this one offers a huge walk in humador and a huge wine tasting room. I am impressed! The only draw back to this location I could see, is getting in and out with the overflow from the light that backs up right in front of the store. read more

I have been coming here off and on for several years, and it has yet to disappoint me in either customer service or inventory. I rarely waste time going anywhere else for beer or wine, as this place has it all. Came here recently looking for a present for my father for his birthday and decided to peruse their supply of beers from Richmond brewers (I used to go to VCU and my dad really liked the breweries there, so I figured it would be a good throwback). They have TONS: a great selection of Hardywood Brewery, Strangeways Brewery, and many others as well. From the strangest fruit beer to the hoppiest IPA, if the beer ever left the brewery for retail, Total Wine has it. The only things they don't get are items specifically for local geographic distribution, like the Hardywood Christmas Morning beer (you will have to actually go to their brewery or a Richmond store to buy it). On this occasion, I noticed they had a special release Dogfish Head beer that I thought would make a great gift and picked it up. At that point an employee (John) came by to ask if I needed any help with anything, and I inquired about a hard-to-find beer that I noticed on their website (Palm Ale, website says "limited availability"). He instantly knew right where it was, and since two of the bottles were missing from the one six-pack remaining, they cut me a deal on it. Talk about knowing your store! On top of that, he gave me a free manual on beer types and the proper glasses for them, which I will naturally re-gift to my dad since he's the aficionado of the family. Apparently they do wine tastings here too, which sounds like a lot of fun. John mentioned they were about to reorganize the store soon, which must be a headache for him having to re-memorize where everything is all over again! I have always been impressed with this particular store, and I am confident it will serve your needs. If only Virginia privatized hard liquor sales, this place would have literally everything you could ever want to drink! Overall: 5.0 stars -------- Pros: - Excellent employees, like John on this occasion. - Undeniably impressive selection and inventory control. - Attractive store interior with clear labels of where to find what you're looking for. - Plenty of parking in a private lot. Cons: - None, really. Some special releases will be pricey, though that's just the market for you. This is the holy grail of Total Wine stores in the Northern VA area (yes, even better than the one in McLean)! I was on the quest to buy a bulk order of a specific bottle of champagne because the Springfield location right by my house didn't have any in stock. Lo and behold, this Total Wine had plenty to sell. Win! They have an extensive selection of beer and wine and everything is well organized by type and in alphabetical order. There are plenty of sales associates on the floor who will happily assist you. The sales associate who helped me was super friendly and didn't mind getting my case of champagne which was situated high above the shelves. The parking lot situation is terrible since it shares a shopping lot with several other stores and the plaza is located right in the middle of a busy intersection, but it's a small sacrifice to make for such a great selection in products. read more

This is the worst Total Wine I have been too. You'll be lucky to get an employee with the same level of customer service as you would see at other stores. I have entered this store searched around and purchased something multiple times without a single word ever being spoken to me. There seems to be only 2 or 3 employees that will give you the time of day. The store location is by no means great either. This store has probably been there awhile as it seems old and smaller than others, but they should consider relocating. I would rather drive to the Potomac Yard Total Wine which is way out of my way then go to this one again. read more

Total wine is like a big toy store for adults. Since covid started, you can now do all of your shopping online, both wine and beer, and they will bring it right to your car and place it in the trunk. All you have to do is click on the link in the email and tell them which one of the designated curbside pickup spaces you parked in. If you sign up on their website for an account, you can accumulate points which will provide discounts off future purchases, in addition to the standard 10-15% off coupons they have. These 10-15% off coupons are usually only good on winery direct wines which is ok since that includes top wines in all price ranges. If you live in VA, I believe they will even deliver or ship the wine to you but unfortunately this is not the case if you live in Maryland. I find that the wine tastes better if you stay away from having it shipped anyway. This location usually has everything you want in stock although the parking lot/shopping center is always busy and not fun to exit out of. Although it is nice to support local wine/beer stores instead of the larger chains, total wine has both a great selection and customer service. read more

This place has the best selection of wine and beer I have seen in the DC area. They have a large wine selection organized by type and also by region. The beer selection is even more impressive and is organized by style of beer and region or country of origin (including a great selection of craft beers from the DC/mid Atlantic region). You can buy individual cans or bottles right off the shelf and each beer has a short explanation of the style, which is useful when you're contemplating buying a beer from say Sri Lanka. I should mention they also have a decent cigar selection for not being a tobacco shop, they have 3 humidors (bookshelf type, not walk in) and have better prices than most tobacco shops. You may not find "specialty cigars" there but you'll get a decent mix of styles and brands as a pretty good price and besides you're already going there for some beer. As others have mentioned, the parking is a little annoying but it's worth it. One weird quirk is they can't sell liquor in VA due to state laws giving the ABC stores a monopoly on that. I had trouble finding the beer because they have such a vast array of beers, it's everything you'd dream of. An employee on a ladder who was stocking shelves came down and helped me find it, and another employee even offered to help me while I looked puzzled. However, the 4 stars is because they had only one type left, which was delicious nonetheless--Crabbie's ginger beer (imported from England). $9.99 for 4 beers is a bit pricy, but the taste was worth it. The cashier was also very cordial and completed the transaction quickly, which is nice when one is busy-busy and on the go! No crowds on a Friday afternoon is also a plus. With the dreaded moco liquor laws, I must cross state borders to get a decent selection of wine and beer. Total wine (along with Wegman's) is my stop for beer and wine. Lots of reviews mention about the selection of wine, but their beer selection is admirable. They have a substantially large selection of European beers that I like. St. Bernardus Abt 12 (arguably one of the best Belgium beers in Total Wine rated 99 or 100 points by Beer Advocate) and LIndemann's (the lady favorite) fruit flavored Belgium beer. Other favorites include beers from other regions such as Spain, China, Japan. Irrespective of what you come here for, be sure to get on their mailing list as they routinely send out coupons giving 10-15% off wine (after X$ purchase) and 10% off beer. There are Total Wines all over the place. The ones I'm used to have liquors in them too, but I was in for a rude awakening after moving to Virginia and finding out that wasn't a thing... Not Total Wine's fault that Virginia won't allow them to carry liquors. The store was empty when I went in at 9 PM. I think my boyfriend and I were the only ones in there, minus a few workers. After wandering around for a bit to check out their selection, a worker named Robin helped us out. He explained VA laws and made a few suggestions to us. He was extremely helpful and answered all of the questions I had. The selection was great. I didn't check out the wine selection, though. I only looked at beers. They had a lot of domestic and imported beers that you could buy by case or individually. Like a lot of other stores, they have the option where you can build your own custom six-pack. The prices were pretty good also. You could probably get some good deals here (especially at the last chance area, where a lot of things are marked down) but the real gem is the extensive collection. They also had sake, sherry, and port. The sake selection wasn't that great, and I was disappointed at the lack of made-in-Japan sake (there were only 2) but the selection is still better than a lot of other stores. (Unless you go to an Asian market or something like that.) They also now have growlers available! The prices are pretty good, and they have around 10 different beers you can get in a growler. Last weekend, I ran in to get a case of beer. I was waiting in line to check out, until I realized they had a little section in the corner where they pour tap beer into a growler. I was super excited because I collect growlers! I stepped out of line, went over and waited to be helped. There was a couple being helped, I waited for about 10-15 minutes. No biggie. They're yapping a storm. Cool. Customer service sounds great. Right? WRONG. When the couple was finished, he asked me if I needed help. Um... Hi, how's your day going? It bothers me so much that I find myself greeting people in a store, when I should be greeted. Whatever. They have a small menu on a board, about 5-7 beers, local, I think. I asked the guy if they give out samples. He responded, "Are you looking to buy.?" No shit. I need to try it first. He then asked for my I.D. I already had my cards in hand, because I was about to check out before I head over to this corner. He then goes,"You know this is not a cash register?" Uh what. Excuse me? He assumed I had my cards in my hand, I was a dumbass. It didn't get better after that. If he was nice, these questions probably wouldn't bother me. But he was just rude. I called the store to find out what the problem was. I was told by someone who answered that the delivery person made an attempt to call me but received no answer. I NEVER RECEIVED A CALL AND NO ONE KNOCKED ON MY DOOR. Whomever the manager is there did not even have the decency to speak with me but instead sent a message to say that I should call Door Dash. I didn't place my order with Door Dash. I placed my order with Total Wine. I have spent a lot of money with this company over the years and to be treated with complete disregard or an offer to deliver my product on the day that the order was placed is not only a slap in the face but completely disrespectful to me the customer. read more

Total Wine is ridiculous. I mean, you could literally spend hours meandering the aisles browsing the insanely large selection of wine and beer -- not to mention the wine and beer accoutrements including bar accessories and food. Husband and I make weekly trips to stock up on wine and beer (don't judge us). You can find really great brews and wines at very affordable prices -- or not so affordable if your wallet allows. The sales staff is great and VERY helpful. Tell them you're looking for a white that will please all white-wine drinkers' palates for a party, and boom! your salesperson has four in his hands for you to choose from. Tell them you loved the last tempranillo you bought and are looking to try a new one, boom! a tempranillo in your price range appears. This morning we were in stocking up for a dinner party; one of the salesmen was incredibly helpful, asking us what we were serving, and even offering us tastings from their tasting bar despite it being closed at that time of day. By the way, love that they have a tasting bar offering samples of 5-6 wines per day. I also love that they include wine spectator ratings with the descriptions of all their wines to help you make an educated decision about your purchase. Beer lovers are well-taken-care-of, too. There is a vaaaaast selection from which to choose (get in my cart, Chimay), and they carry obscure international labels, microbroews, and seasonal offerings too (we love the Post Road Pumpkin Ale in the fall -- heaven). Buy by the case, the six-pack, the bottle, or mixed six-packs. My one beef with Total Wine -- and the reason I can't give it 5 stars -- is that there's no discount on a mixed case or half-case. A lot of other wine sellers will discount you a mixed case, but at TW all 6 or 12 of your wines must be THE SAME for a discount. Boooo-ring. Still, TW is a wonderful place to pass some serious QT with your favorite alcohol and stock up on those cabinet staples. read more
