Apparently, it's been somewhat of a challenge to find this spirit - as only a small amount is made by the Carthusian monks of the Grande Chartreuse monastery in France. I happened to find several Virginia ABC Stores in the 15-20 mile range from my home - so I cruised over to snag two bottles. I could not find it on the shelf - so I checked with the staff. The Chartreuse Green was stored in the back - they promptly retrieved two bottles for me - plus I restocked my supply of Luxardo Maraschino Cherry Liqueur with a fresh bottle. On a positive note the employees here are really nice. They are also quite knowledgeable. Have gotten my Scotch/Irish relatives whiskey from here for Christmas. They do occasionally have gift packages. These makes for a good looking present. Stocked well and clean. The store is very organized. Richmond please get out of the commonwealth's booze, and please limit government involvement in commerce.

We experienced older lady was so rude. ID CHECK acceptable 24 hour ban- I DID NOT understand So, my boyfriend and I were at the Fairfax Total Wine location, trying to buy a bottle of wine. He was the one paying, and he showed his ID. The cashier asked mine, but mine was in the car. The cashier said they need to check everyone's ID. We completely understood.When a group of people purchase, they have to present their ID. It is the store policy that applies to all states. Truly UNDERSTANDABLE. We said we'll go grab my ID from the car, and we'll be back in 2 minutes." The store was not even busy at the time; there were only two of us, and maybe there were two more people, including her. But then the lady at the counter said something that totally threw me off - she goes, "No, NOW I CAN'T SELL IT to you for 24 HOURS." She explained it was some POLICY that if anyone doesn't have their ID, EVEN IF WE GO AND GET IT, they won't sell us alcohol for a whole day. I said okay, I'll wait outside so he can get in and collect them again." But she refused to sell it to my partner and we felt like we'd been blacklisted from the store for the entire day. We asked to see the policy but no response. WHY make us wait 24 hours for something that could've been fixed in five minutes? The entire thing felt completely unnecessary. I was just standing there, totally shocked. I've never heard of any rule like that in any store! It's not like we were trying to SNEAK AROUND WITHOUT SHOWING ID. I know there are laws around alcohol sales, and stores have to be strict, but is this 24-hour thing really a Total Wine policy? Or was she just making it up because she didn't want to deal with us? I've never run into something like this before. PS: We did not argue with the group ID check policy, but 24 hour store ban.

I knew exactly what I wanted but immediately after I entered he store, I was greeted by a lovely gentleman with a delightful British accent. He was so charming, pleasant, and attentive. The second room had more wine on display. The shop is nice and appears to be high end, mostly dedicated to wine. I did not compare wine prices, but my impression is that wine here is more expensive than some of the national or regional retail chains such as Costco, Total Wine, Binny's Beverage Depot, etc. They also offer cigars, beer and cheese. We did not buy anything during our visit. When we were leaving, a customer arrived to buy some wine. If we ever run out of wine we will stop here to buy wine or other items.

They'll allow gambling and weed, but don't think they'll ever cede to capitalism with booze. This is unfortunate, as the prices for liquor are high. Then again this is a good location, considering it's run by Richmond. Getting in and out of here is relatively straightforward. The Christmas sets for Johnny Walker or Jim Beam are excellent. Very classy and make for nice gifts in our Scotch Irish family. The employees are really polite. Also they are extremely knowledgeable, and check out time won't be an arduous process. Do I wish it would be privatized? Sure. Yet until then, this is one of the better ABC stores in the area.

Unfortunately, the first free sample lady was not friendly and rude and sassy towards us. However, every other employee we interacted with went above and beyond to be friendly and transform our experience from a trip to the store into a trip to remember! Trader Joe's hires many excellent employees who are great at their job. Spacious aisles and great selection of local and international cuisine at a great price. It's also near an Aldi, Panera, and other great stops to go after your visit!
