6 Piece Cupcake

I came in here from a promotion I got in the mail, and I was blown away at this shops generosity! My roommates and I are so excited to snack on their goods all week long. The store is conveniently located right off the main road, and they open super early, so you will be able to buy whatever baked goods you may need for any event that day. The employees are super helpful, and they have a bunch of stuff so you will be helped really fast. The store is organized really well, so you can navigate through pretty easily which I really appreciated. Nothing would prepare me for how big this storm was, it was a full scale production! Everything looked so amazing, but I'm especially excited for the cupcakes! They do a beautiful job with the presentation. Cannot recommend this store enough! Will definitely be coming back for events

This is clearly a place that has been around a long time. It has a small and kind of awkward parking lot. It was a bit disorganized inside, and for some reason people were talking to an employee about planning a party spread while standing in front of some of the nicest looking pastries and even the other people working there struggled to get them to move aside. Thus, I ended up somewhat unintentionally with a chocolate mousse cake that had a mother's day chocolate in it. It is the sort of thing that she would have enjoyed, so it felt right to me despite the fact that I was trying to order something different. There was a large loaf and pretzel selection in addition to the pastries. They did accept card payments, which some of these older vibe shops have hangups with.

I accidentally found this amazing bakery while on a walk in the neighborhood. Part bakery and part mini European grocery store, I perused the items but really only had eyes for the baked goods that day. I also really liked that there were little tables and a countertop so you could hang around and eat there. Service was amazing- the folks behind the counter were lovely and so patient as I decided what items to try. I decided on a Napoleon, an eclair, and some kind of chocolate mousse cookie tart. I can't begin to express how delicious everything was. The creme in the Napoleon and eclair was perfect, and the cookie tart so chocolatey and dense that even I had to consume it in multiple sittings. I'm salivating just thinking about eating these things again! I can't wait to return and try even more baked goods!

Update 26 January 2025: still an amazing bakery. Great options for Valentine's treats as well. Be aware they are super busy on Sunday mornings because they close earlier that day...1pm. Thanks for the tasty pastries! The Heidelberg bakery is everything you could want for German themed desserts and pantry items. This place gets really busy, so be prepared to walk in, grab a ticket, and enjoy looking around or finalizing your shopping list while you wait for your number to be called. Be ready to go when you number is called though because the team at Heidelberg is very efficient, while also being friendly; so do your part by being ready to state the items desired for your order. The desserts I tried were all good. I think my favorite was their éclair, but their cakes with fruit are delicious too. Limited parking is available at the lot in front of the shop and additional parking is available in a lot walking distance down the street. I would definitely come back. Thanks!

My cousin's birthday is tomorrow and we are throwing a big party for her which will probably last all day long. Her favorite cake is tres leches and I must agree that it's pure deliciousness. The cake itself isn't the largest cake and considering the number of guests tomorrow, we will probably need to ration the slices for each person. This bakery cuts no corners when it comes to the preparation of their baked products. We've actually shopped at this bakery numerous times, and they've obviously done something right being in business for over 50 years. I would love to try a slice of the cake now and report back about how good it really is, but I've had to remind myself that it's not about me this time. .The bakery is quite large and I'm sure that they have whatever type of cake, pie, or any other bakery products that you're looking for. Baked well!

The bakery I return to time and time again, Heidelberg pastry shop has such a wide variety of pastries, cakes, breads, and other treats. Their pretzels are fantastic, real German style made and perfect right out of the bag. If you want a grab and go breakfast they have great donuts and other pastries. Service is quick, it's all counter service and the staff are great.

Free cake with lunch!

This is a lunch review for Heidelberg pastry shop. I've been wanting to try them because I've heard it was a neighborhood gem. They have way more than just pastries. For lunch they have made to order sandwiches with a variety of options like tuna, roast beef, pastrami and more. They also have a ton of bread options. I ordered the Turkey sandwich on Jewish rye bread and got it toasted. It was delicious and filling! The bread was very fresh and flavorful. My order even came with a free piece of cake! Unfortunately the hazelnut cake I chose was too dry for my liking. But overall this was a great lunch. I also appreciated how kind and attentive all of the bakery staff were. I took my food to go, but they have a small area for dining inside. I definitely will be back to try more pastries and breakfast!

A Warm, Welcoming Bakery with European Charm and Irresistible Pastries. Walking into Heidelberg Bakery feels like stepping into a cozy, old-world shop. I was immediately greeted by smiling staff, and I loved seeing how diverse and welcoming their team was, it truly felt like a family atmosphere. The store itself is full of unique finds. They carry products from Germany (of course) as well as other European countries, and I noticed several items throughout the store marked with 50% off stickers -- a nice surprise! They also have a full deli section, and during my visit, plenty of people were coming in for fresh sandwiches and decadent salads. The pastry section is a true highlight -- rows of cookies, delicate pastries, and beautifully decorated cakes, some designed to look like fresh fruit. It's clear that a lot of care and artistry goes into their baked goods. Overall, my visit to Heidelberg Bakery was a wonderful experience. The atmosphere, variety, and quality make it a place I'll absolutely return to next time, I'm coming hungry! Everything bagel with veggie shmear

Cute bakery serving up lunch items! I ordered the pastrami Reuben and a slice of carrot cake. The Reuben was good, but they forgot the Russian dressing on mine. The carrot cake was the star here. Probably the best carrot cake I've had. I also ordered an everything bagel with veggie cream cheese. As you can see from the pictures the amount of shmear was very disappointing. They should be doubling that at the very least. The bagel had good flavor but the texture was off. It didn't have the softness or the right chew. TLDR: get cake.

This pastry shop is the cutest! The service here was great. We paid about $30 for two multipacks of cookies, two slices of cake and a cupcake. Very worth it. Everything we tasted was delicious! It definitely has a pastry shoppe vibe but I loved the fact that they also serve meats, jarred and pickled items, and an assortment of other things. We came in the afternoon and there was quite the selection but I'll return for bread earlier in the day. Will be back!

was really disappointed with the cakes. They were unbelievably sweet, honestly more sugary than typical American cakes and nothing like authentic German bakery desserts. The Windbeutel was especially bad: instead of the light whipped cream filling you would expect, it was filled with a thick buttercream/icing-like mixture that tasted almost like pure sugar. It completely ruined it for me. Unfortunately, this was not the quality or taste I associate with German pastries at all, as a German myself. Totally ruined the Birthday party and guests.

Busy "Old School" Bakery! Located in Arlington, VA. My friends long-time customers of Heidelberg's invited me to join them on a recent cold Sunday January morning. We arrived the bakery was busy think wall to wall people. The shoppe has a wall windows- daylight streaming in. Limited bar height seating along the windows & a few cafe tables/chairs. The bakery is big-display cases set up in a semicircle. I saw freshly made, donuts, danishes, poppyseed coffee cake slices & chocolate truffles, whole decorated cakes too. They even prepare deli sandwiches to order. Some shelves were bare-pastries sold out. I purchased poppyseed coffee cake, a chocolate frosted brownie. We ordered deli sandwiches for lunch-scored a table too. Delicious sandwiches. Poppyseed coffee cake my favorite-moist, tender cake, fresh lemon flavor. Friendly Professional Customer Service. 2lb Laugen Pretzel and Das Deutsche Delight

LOVE Heidelberg! I have been ordering the Black Forest cake from here for a few years now. It is such a delectable cake with cherry brandy, layers of cherries and dark chocolate and whipped cream. A few weeks ago, we threw a party to celebrate the first day of Oktoberfest and had Heidelberg cater. Everything was absolutely excellent. In addition to the staple Black Forest, we also got the Kase Sahne cake - a yellow cake with raspberry jam filling. This is also my new favorite! Such a light and fluffy cake and so much lemon flavor! Yumm. For savory snacks, we got the 2lb Oktoberfest Pretzel and the Das Deutsche Delight. What showstoppers! Both were huge and a hit. The pretzel was surprisingly soft, and so yummy. The Dash Deutsche Delight were layers of German cold cuts with Muenster and Swiss cheeses. I enjoyed building different bites with the various meats and cheeses. It also came with four 1lb breads, so no need to worry about carbs! We also got the small vegetable tray to round out all the bread and meat... The party was for 25 folks, but I think all this could have fed up to 30 as heavy hors d'oeuvres.

The sandwiches looked epic and the photos of the place looked adorable for a local joint. We walked over from our hotel in Georgetown and were overwhelmed by the sandwich choices. Caught between the Grinder and the Pastrami, we went with the employee's suggestion for the latter. About 5 minutes later we were handed a wrapped sandwich the size of a football. We found a quiet spot to unwrap and enjoy it and dug in. Frankly, I wouldn't order it again, and I think we would have enjoyed the grinder more. It was just a huge pile of meat on pumpernickel bread with mustard. Flavor was meh. Neither of us was overwhelmed for nearly $25. Props for the cute European goods in the shop, though, and the employees were courteous and friendly. But next time I'll look elsewhere for lunch.

But I would think they would have some heads up on conferences in the area just due to their location. Anyways, I bee-lined it here during lunch break to get a sandwich, with only one person in front of me at the counter. I had the ribeye cheese with added onions, peppers, and mushrooms (a $2.00 upcharge), and was told to have a seat and they would bring me the food since I was going to eat in the building lobby where this location is. And right after I ordered groups from the conference started coming in and soon enough the line was 15-20 people. At the end of that line were two co-workers that found this place by getting lost. They (co-workers) took over 20 minutes before they were even able to make it to the counter to order their food, chili and another ribeye cheesesteak sandwich with fries. After they placed their order, I looked inside and realized they were overwhelmed and were probably not going to bring out my sandwich so I went to the pick up area to ask the status of my sandwich. The panic behind the counter was telling me they lost my order. And they had me wait at the counter for my sandwich an additional 4-5 minutes. When I got back to the table I realized that all I got was the ribeye cheese sandwich with shredded iceberg lettuce, no peppers, no onions, no mushrooms. I wanted to go back, but with the panic behind the counter I said I am just glad I got something to eat. The sandwich was good, not bad, with a nice toast on the hoagie bread. About 10 minutes after I got my food, my co-workers got their food and the person that ordered the chili was very disappointed, they said they have had better chili and Wendy's. My other co-worker agreed that the ribeye cheese sandwich was not bad, but the fries were flavorless, like they were not salted. Anyways, maybe management could take initiative in finding out what conferences are occurring in the immediate area and be prepared that first day, because you only have one chance to make a first impression. I am not likely to return to this establishment due to the incorrect order and the slow service. I wish them much success.

The Italian Store has so many Italian subs to choose from, but I went with the Milano, their most popular sub. The combination of the sweet and spicy peppers really made this sandwich stand out. There was just the right balance of flavors, and I can definitely see why it's one of their most popular choices. A heads-up when ordering: They typically have several sandwiches pre-made and ready to go, but if you want something made fresh to order, you'll need to order by phone or online. At least at the Lyon Village location, you can't order a made-to-order sandwich directly at the counter. So if you have your heart set on a freshly made sub, plan ahead! Of course, no Italian sub is complete without chips. They carry Route 11, a Virginia-based chip company, and they had several varieties available: lightly salted, dill pickle, Chesapeake Crab, Mama Zuma's Revenge, and salt & pepper. I went with the lightly salted, which was the perfect pairing with my Milano. Unfortunately, the Lyon Village location doesn't have fresh gelato, so I had to settle for the pre-packaged variety. I went with the caramel gelato, and it was delicious! It wasn't overly sweet, which I appreciated, although it was a little on the expensive side. The store was pretty busy when I stopped in, with several people inside and a few others enjoying the outdoor tables. They also sell pizza by the slice, or you can order a whole pizza to take home. I saw several people leaving with whole pizzas, so clearly I need to add that to my next visit. Between the Milano, Route 11 chips, and caramel gelato, this was a fantastic first experience. Definitely coming back -- next time, I'm trying the pizza!

The place was packed, almost no open seats anywhere, but I managed to grab a spot at the bar. I went with the full OG Philly and some onion rings. The sandwich was massive. I almost couldn't finish half of it, and it turns out they sell them in half portions, which is the move next time. Everything else coming out of that kitchen looked just as good, and I'm already planning to work my way through the rest of the menu. Part of the fun is the room itself. It's a proper New York deli that's been around since 1975, with caricatures of famous faces painted across the walls and a "Barred Conversation List" chalkboard that's worth a read while you wait. I really enjoy places that look and feel like this. Worth the stop.

EDITED (see below)…read more WAY overpriced. Reuben was good, but meat lacked seasoning. Seriously?! At these prices!!! It was scorching hot when it comes out. Never had to wait for a deli sandwich to cool down before eating. Really disliked having to stare at my sandwich at a deli of all places, waiting for it to cool while I'm starving and the lunch clock is ticking. I got places to go. The thin bread falls apart too easily and combined with the pizza-commercial-like cheese pull after each bite with cheese hanging from my mouth to the sandwich, it was functionally very MESSY and difficult to sandwich to eat. I don't like eating sandwiches with a fork. And dont get me started with $10 small sized milkshake. It was an absolutely average milkshake. With a thin straw easily clogged. These prices are INSANE!!! I knew the prices were high going in, but I thought the quality and portions would match. There is a significant disparity between them, and I should be getting twice the amount of sandwich for these prices. Lastly the whole flow is very weird. The interactive website-menu is a disaster and confusing. It took over 10 minutes online just trying to find the menu before I arrived thinking I'd order at front counter and instead was told to take a seat. This really doesnt call for a waitress, an unnecessary markup (tips) to an already insanely expensive meal. Its like pseudo restaurant but its really just a deli sandwich shop. EDIT to owners reply: For a deli sandwich to be piping hot is unnecessary and its not a good thing. It suggests poorly trained cooks. It was a warning for other customers so they don't burn their tongue like I did on a freaking deli sandwich. Instead of leaning into the free customer feedback, they chose to brag about their flaws. So the problems are admitted features, not flaws, and further supports my evaluation. "Tiny portions relative to price." Does that make it more clear? While owner glosses over the huge portion sizes in photos on website/menu that are false advertising, and photos were only reason I thought the high prices might be justified before coming here. I only saw the actual (tiny) portion size when my food was delivered that I realized menu photos online had deceived me and the prices were insane for that reason. $21+ for a 1/4 lb half deli sandwich!?!? Insane! And centimeter-thick bread slices are also considered tiny portions. Nobody disputed weight of meat. Strawman. And it wasnt obvious the weight of meat on the already mentioned difficult to read website. Nobody's reading the fine print on a menu!! If it wasn't clear for me its likely unclear for others. should not have a cheese pull that requires utensils on a sandwich. Should not need utensils to eat a sandwich. Deli sandwiches shouldn't burn your mouth. And nobody disputed your sandwiches weren't "cooked fresh". Strawman.
