I saw other reviews about their service not being so great. I did not experience that. They have a pretty extensive collection of wines and cheese. The selection here is fantastic, there's a lot of curated items that are harder to find, french butters, italian olive oils, special caramels, tinned fish, the selection goes on. The wine selection here is vast as well and there's something for everyone. However, the staff here is rather unfriendly, we came here on a Thursday at 6pm an hour before they closed and we were out the door by 6:15pm but the entire time the staff kept glaring at us. The prices here are steep! Canned fish that you would normally buy in Europe for 10€ would be sold here for $30. Butter that's normally 7€ was sold for $23 which is insane. We purchased 4 sticks of butter along with 2 caramel boxes and the total came out to $160. Service is not great- a good tasting with discounts communicated but not honored at check out

I can only speak to the charcuterie side of things since I haven't gotten deeper than the occasional wine bottle, but Arrowine is what kids these days might call " the good shit". An unparalleled selection of cheese both domestic and imported, and so many cured meats, olives, etcs. They even got decent selection of local groceries from Jeni's ice creams to pastas. If you can think of the best charcuterie board you've had in a restaurant, you can probably make one better using what Arrowine's got. Sadly, Arrowine to me is my biggest casualty from papa-Rona. There's just nothing like being able to walk in, read the descriptions of cheeses, and if you're lucky swipe a stray sample from the folks behind the counter. Even something like a brie, a blue cheese, or a Gouda can have so many variants within their family that you might find something just for you. One example I had might be the Nero Fume, a blue that's aged in tea leaves of all things! That's not to say Arrowine hasn't stepped up their game to combat this - their curbside pickup and online shopping game has certainly stepped up during the pandemic. I think the major difference I would say besides losing the ability to impulse buy/window shop is buying everything in fixed increments (1/2 pound, 1/4 pound etc.) instead of getting just the right amount you'd want. Value isn't changing but you lose a bit of convenience I guess. Waiting for the day the majority of us can stay vaccinated and healthy so I can come back into the store. Such a great experience at the cheese counter-- I got not only cheese but a spectacle, to boot! I asked for Comté and they said they had just received two wheels. Even though I had asked for only 1/4 pound of each, they cheerfully proceeded to hoist the gigantic 75 pound wheels up onto the counter, cut them in half and then cut them into smaller wedges, served with a smile. What a gem this place is! We stumbled upon here after going to a nearby pastry shop and I am SO glad we decided to check it out! If charcuterie and wine is your love language...then this place will be your new home!! We came by to get some fresh cold cuts along with some cheeses to munch on. We ordered the wagu cured beef and pork and beef salami (yumyumyum!). Our other favorites included the herbal goat cheese (perfectly seasoned with some floral and citrus herbs); the perfect herbal punch with the goat cheese the melts in your mouth - nothing else like this. Not to mention the truffle cheese - oh my heaven. If you only get one thing, please get this!! The truffle is absolute perfection. We also bought a fresh baguette to pair everything with. This place is a trip to Europe for your belly! They also have Jenni's ice cream here, I'm telling you, I may never leave. To top everything else off, they are kicking off starting crepes here! I worked here as a teenager and loved going to and supporting this store as an adult. A bunch of the great employees left or were fired. Prices have been severely hiked up. $7 baguette's. You can get some of the same meat sliced at The Italian Store for $5 less a pound! Maybe the price increases are why the store seemed so empty whenever I used to visit. Arrowine & Cheese will forever hold a soft spot in my heart since it was the first place my real estate agent took me when I closed on my first house to purchase some celebratory wine, cheese, and smoked meats to mark the occasion. Like any good wine, cheese, or smoked meat, Arrowine continues to improve with age as I have returned time and time again to gather supplies for house dinners, parties, and the occasional holiday gift for my foodie friends. Cheese- A treasure trove of artisanal cheeses from farms both domestic and abroad including unpasteurized selections; The guys behind the deli counter are very knowledgeable as well as generous in doling out samples and recently their very own Perry Soulos took home first prize at the 2014 Cheesemonger Invitational, so if you are new to venturing beyond the norm or trying to pick out selections to impress, trust that you will be in good hands. Meats- an all-star lineup of thick slabs of pork that are sliced and meticulously arranged and packaged to order, the Jamon Serrano and Jamon Iberico were exceptional and very moderately priced especially if you catch them during a sale. There is also a diverse array of accoutrements including marcona almonds, specialty crackers, quince paste and dried fruits , and various pates and mustards to round out the perfect charcuterie board. Wine/beer- They boast a selection of over 350 craft beers including several from local breweries and their wine selection is well stocked and organized by country and type. The owners make regular trips to Europe as well as invite vintners and artisan distillers for local tastings so they not only have the reputation but also the experience to back their product line. Be sure to subscribe to their weekly electronic newsletter to stay abreast of specials which are described in wonderful detail as well as announcements on weekly tasting events open to the general public. Service- As mentioned earlier, the folks are courteous without being obtrusive, knowledgeable without being pretentious, and professional while still being passionate. While the original location in DC may have the infrequent celebrity or high government official sighting (I've heard Owen Wilson and George Stephanopoulos have been known to make the occasional appearance), the Arlington location has more of the local neighborhood hangout vibe where the regulars are known on a first-name basis and it sits in a little shopping center adjacent to a local bakery and toy store. Bonus- for those who are too busy to cook or need a last minute meal to impress, they also have baguettes and a refrigerated section stocked with fresh pastas and pints of Jeni's Splendid ice cream, which uses grass-grazed milk from a few select farms in Ohio. I kept seeing Arrowine advertised on ARLNow, and finally had an excuse to make it over here on probably one of the worst days ever in a wine shop, Christmas Eve. However, the staff was still extremely patient and friendly, and still took the time to make amazing recommendations. I was impressed. Wine, beer, and cheese is their focus, but other items, such as Jeni's ice cream, LeoNora bread, refrigerated pastas, wine accessories, etc., are sold. Talk about service! They have free wine tastings every week. They have very helpful staff. And you can taste just about anything in the store before you buy it. Does it get better than that? I was putting together a picnic so I picked up cheese, charcuterie and some wine. I just happened to catch the end of the wine tasting on Saturday afternoon (if you participate in the wine tasting you receive an additional 10% off one of the featured bottles in the tasting). I had a wonderful opportunity to taste different meats which helped me identify some of my favorites and the flavors that I enjoyed the most. I will definitely come back at least once a month to get my fix. If you sign up for their weekly newsletter you will have a 20% off coupon emailed to you on your entire purchase of wine. Jackpot! Stinky cheese,beer,ale and expensive food. AKA...yuppies paradise!!! First of all if you are enrolled in any "12 step program" or Jenny Craig" stop reading now. :D. Also I'm not not a super pretentious wine snob. I like a nice bottle of wine but I've never gotten sucked into the whole wine culture. The only thing I like to sip swish and spit is mouthwash. I simply do not believe in wasting alcohol. I went to this place on the fly and while I was wondering around lost in the general area. To my surprise I was greeted by very friendly down to earth staff. One guy who kind of looked like Gerard Depardieu really seemed to know his stuff. How cute is that?! Although they did not have what I was looking for he recommended I try an Italian wine. I'm not too into Italian wines. (I know,weird right?). What I liked about this guy was,he was honest and real. He didn't try and upsell me to buy something super expensive and fancy,that would probably end up tasting like vinegar and burn my throat. When 9 out of 10 I'd probably be happier drinking a Zima then a $300 bottle of grape piss. :p So back on topic, yeah the wine was good. It was very smooth. The staff at cheese counter offered me samples. However,I kindly declined. Sorry but whenever I'm around Gorgonzola and Parmesan I want to upchuck,I not French enough of that. Great for cheese, skip the wine. This store has a great cheese selection and very knowledgeable cheese sales staff (at least pre-Covid). Pricing is ok, not overly expensive (for the quality of the cheese), but they're not a discount retailer either. But you get a good value, at least when you could shop inside due to the knowledgeable staff. You have to order ahead online as they don't allow anyone in the store. The wine on the other hand is a different story. Their featured wines are mediocre quality and over priced. It's like they bought whatever the distributor wanted to get rid of that week without regard to value or quality. I have spent several hundred dollars here and have been disappointed by the quality and pricing of every single bottle I purchased. You'd have better luck at Total wine...but don't shop there either. :) So where do you go if you're looking for good wine in North Arlington? DC!! Addy Bassin's Macarthur Beverages on MacArthur Blvd in the Palisades is excellent. Paul's on Wisconsin Ave is good too. My wife and I were hoping to support a more local wine shop and chose Arrowine in lieu of TotalWine. The experience was awful. The guy who helped my wife select some rosè (because you aren't allowed inside during COVID) was condescending and felt the need to mansplain how tariffs work to my wife. Worse yet, the two bottles of rosè he selected (one variety, not two as requested) were priced at $21.99 and he blamed tariffs for the price. I subscribe to WineSearcher pro and come to find out that these bottles are priced at $13.99-$15.99 everywhere else, tariffs included. I don't mind paying slightly more to support a local shop, but 50% more for poor attitude and condescension is just so disappointing. read more

Love this cheese shop and used to frequent it when I lived nearby. They have a great section of cheeses, wines, cured meats, craft brews, and more specialty food products. They know their stuff, are pretty spot on with recommendations and let you try everything. There are usually wine/beer/some sort of tastings on the weekends. Wow! I was certainly taken aback from the presentation and selection the moment I walked in the store. We came looking for a specialty cheese based on country origin and texture and within a minute we were recommended a dead ringer and given samples as well. If you're looking to replicate or find a certain cheese that you tried overseas, there's a good chance Arrowine has it. Without knowing, there had to be at least a couple hundred different wines from all over the world as well as a healthy selection of champagne! I was very impressed with the Malbec selection which is my favorite red. Some other specialty items we picked up were pickled okra, which I didn't know existed, and some sausages that I cannot wait to try. I will be back here as soon as I can. read more

This place! This is the place. There is nothing that compares to this place in my neck of the woods - Arlington. The breadth and selection of wines, meats, cheeses, chocolates, breads is top of game. These folks are serious about being Top of their Game and yet friendly as heck - FRIENDLY: no attitude - ALWAYS HELPFUL - always on point! Makes me feel like I am back in NYC or Chicago. I won't be coming back to this place. Ever. On my most recent visit, I was purchasing a good bottle of Pommard (a bit pricey, but not exorbitantly expensive, by any means). As I was bringing my selection up to the register, weaving my way through the other patrons who were crowding the French wines section, turning the bottle in my hands and reading the label, I apparently caught the eye of one of the employees stocking shelves. I looked up to find that he had stopped his work to assess the bottle that I was holding. He glanced at the label, looked up at me, clearly made some sort of judgement based on my age and roared out "You know, that doesn't mix well with Coke!" (let's assume he was referring to the cola). Some of the older wine-buyers around me turned, looked and chuckled; also clearly amused that a guy in his twenties would have the audacity to select anything other than Boone's Farm or André. I'm not easily embarrassed, but the environment felt hostile immediately. I quickly brought my bottle to the register (red faced) and slunk out of the store (hey, it was a gift for my father and I didn't want to leave the bottle behind). The wine itself wound up being excellent, but there is no chance that I'll be handing any more of my hard-earned money over to that ageist snob at any point in the future. read more

4.5 stars This place has an excellent selection given the size of the store -- plus if you sign up for their email updates you will get some great discounts and special offers. Their special offers don't beat some of the prices you can find on wine-searcher.com -- but you don't pay shipping and you support a great local business. Good selections of CA, French, Italian and Australian -- Spanish wines are a little weak. They have the largest selection of Louis/Dressner wines in the area -- which is a whole 3 bottles at the moment -- but enough to keep me happy -- and many of the wines are the authentic and well made. I love the owner of this place -- his heart and palate are in the right place -- and he is a really genuine guy that knows his wine. In fact, all of the staff is super friendly and know their wines -- and they have GREAT tastings at least a couple of times a week. Watch for the Italian tastings with Bill McKinney -- he is great and knows his wine. A jewel of a neighborhood wine store that is worthy of its reputation and following. One of the top three wines stores in the greater DC area -- currently, it might be my favorite as it has personality and charm -- and I always feel like I am well taken care of....... 3.5 stars. I expected more. Arrowine may be just fine for Arlington, but this spoiled Seattleite was not impressed. (I used to live next to Pike Place Market!) I've been here several times and each time I was never impressed by the selection or the staff. The beers were all the usual suspects. I can find the same at Harris Teeter or Whole Foods. As a Seattle guy, I'm always hoping to find more Seattle beers around here, but all we get are the big PNW ones like Rogue and Red Hook. The meat? A lot of the usual cuts and sausages, but some missing ones too. Bread? Not fresh and better/fresher at HT or Le Pain Quotidien. Hell, I can get great fresh baked bread direct from Panera as well. (A lot of people forget that it's also a proper bakery) Their frozen pizza dough wasn't impressive either. I like the HT pizza dough better. Pâté? No samples, so I had to make a gamble on the shrink-wrapped Alexian stuff they had. Fail. Harris Teeter carries better pâté (as well as Alexian products). Cheeses? Didn't buy any, but you really can't go wrong. All the usual stuff is here. Staff? Every time I've been here I've been ignored. I hate being bothered by salespeople as much as the next guy, but c'mon! I have to admit, I came here for the meat, cheese and bread. The floorspace at Arrowine is predominantly wine and everything feels secondary. There is almost no deli counter to speak of. I honestly don't get what the other reviewers experienced - not calling them liars, but I've never felt uncomfortable here at all. Now, for full disclosure, I live a block from the shop and go in every week for the free Saturday wine, beer and cheese tasting and so I've become friendly with the beer guy and the young (my age) lady who is their cheese-monger (her real job title). The only time I've received sideways glances was from other patrons and from the importers who run the wine tastings on Friday and Saturday. This is an important point - the people who are running the WINE table are not employees and can sometimes be aloof or douchebaggy, but the employees (and managers and owners) have ALWAYS been friendly. Keep in mind, I am not rolling up in any sort of nice car (does a 95 Lumina count?) and we never buy more than two bottles of wine (rarely exceeding $15 per bottle) and the service has ALWAYS been great. I know that I sound like they've payed me off - they haven't, I just feel the need to set the record straight. Notice, that I'm not giving a 5 star because they're not perfect, but I like it.
