I came here for a friend's birthday. Nothing special here during the winter. This is your average bar with your better than average selection of beer. It also has three floors: the bottom floor with an American theme and beer, the middle floor with long tables and live music, and the top floor overseeing the middle floor. Every floor has a lot of TVs as well. In the summer, this place turns into a backyard party - there's beer pong, large jenga, and cornhole outside of the bar. One thing I do not like about this place is their token system. Maybe it makes ordering more efficient? Who knows? And beer is a bit expensive. I understand it's Tysons and rent is probably high, but who pays $8 for a beer? Tysons Biergarten is not my favorite place to drink, but I will go to meet up with friends who want to drink there. read more

Pretty decent happy hour beer garden to head to after work. There's a large outdoor space along with an indoor upstairs, ground level, and downstairs section. The concept is a little confusing at first to be honest. You buy tokens up front, there's 3 different types: happy hour chips - $5, wine chips - $8, beer chips - $8, and food chips - $8. You buy them at a little hut outside and redeem them inside. The happy hour special is Mondays-Fridays 3-9pm and the $5 chips are only good for the Eggenberg Pilsner and American draft beers (downstairs only). The glasses of the beers are actually pretty huge, German style I suppose. So the $5 beer seemed like a good deal to me, who doesn't really mind any type of beer as long as the ABU isn't too high. I drank my large Pilsner and ordered one of the sausage platters with my $8 food chip. For the chip, I got two sausages (on buns) and two sides - fries and potato pancakes. The portion was huge, especially when you ordered some of the sausages that were really big. It definitely was filling and went down well with the beer, but not the healthiest of meals. For the decent price of $13 during happy hour, I got a pretty solid meal and beer. Both of which I polished off. I would probably come back again with friends or coworkers for happy hour. Ok, first I'll start with the good. The food was great. The pretzel was huge and the german mustard tasted awesome. The sausage platter was tasty as well. The big surprise was the fries. The parsley garlic it was tossed in was perfect. The german beer was very refreshing. Last, the staff was very nice and helpful in explaining on how everything works. Now the bad. This place is hard to find and the location is just wrong. We saw it from the construction filled roadway and circled around several times before finding the entrance to the parking lot. Just turn by the entrance to the Big Screen Store and the parking lot is right there. Other people I spoke with also had trouble finding it too. Next, the parking situation is maddening. There aren't that many spaces in front. Couple that with other businesses in the strip mall next door who block off parking space, many cars turn around and exit the lot as others are coming in. Additional parking is available in the parking garages about 3 to 4 blocks away. You can get your parking validated after speaking with staff member at the restaurant. If not, you'll be out more money to pay to get out of the deck. Next, the chip buying system for food and drinks. It's suppose to help with not standing in line or waiting for your server. With that said, I'm not a fan. Almost every chip, excluding happy hour $5 green beer chips, are $8. Plus, what they don't tell you is for a big stein of beer, it takes two $8 beer chips. So for a big stein of beer and a food item, it will cost you $24 per person. You can buy a case of good German beer for that. Lastly, the area where you turn in your food ticket to place your food order is very small and cramped. I don't know if I would go back. It was worth the try at least. The bartender tried to belittle my celiac allergy when I told him I wanted Tito's in my drink by telling me that every alcohol is gluten free. If you have celiac, you know this isn't true. The Space/Staff: Fun, open and large space with a small stage and plenty of seating. Sometimes they will have live music and also some games around like oversized jenga. This is great for happy hour or mingling with a group of friends. I use to come here a lot with my team. Parking can be hard to find because it is sandwiched inbetween two office buildings but sits right across from a metro stop. There is also some indoor seating if you want to escape the heat. They operate on a chip system which is a bit odd, especially if you don't use all of your chips. They can't be refunded and you will just have to come back! The staff is alright, seems like they just want to get you in and out. Overall, its not really my go-to and there isn't anything truly unique about it, just convenient if you work in the area. The Food: They have a pretty decent beer and food menu. They have a grapefruit radler which is great if you want something light. As for food, my team loved the pretzel and bratwurst. The token idea is idiotic. There's a reason why places everywhere don't do it: it doesn't work. The idea is this: When you arrive, you already know what you want. Because you've been here before and you know what they have. You also know how long you'll be there and how much you'll want during that duration. Once you've purchased your token(s), you can find a spot, fight to get the lone bartender's attention, and finally get your beverage. Hopefully you don't decide to have another, because if you do, you leave your spot, get back in line with the token cashier and get what you have already decided what you want. Now you get to find a new seat because your original one is gone. (Don't forget that you left your seat to purchase a new token!) It's not clear what problem they solved by instituting the token system here. But it's obvious to anybody paying attention that they've created more problems than they could have possibly solved. Customers don't win because of the extra hassle. Bartenders don't win because of the separation of payment from the purchase (no tips in most cases). Perhaps the owner believes that they pocket a little extra cash because they don't have to pay servers? Smart move? If they didn't have the token system, I'd consider coming back next time I was in the area. But I can guarantee that I'll never return based on the experience that I had here. read more

I have mixed feelings about this place. When I first got there, I was a fan and excited about finding a new spot to hang out. There's indoor seating at the bar and a large chunk of the parking lot serves as outdoor seating. There are bars both inside and outside and overall it's great ambiance. The visit started to go downhill when we had a beer flight - and none of the beers were any good. Service was just okay as well. I would definitely return if there were at least 1-2 great beers but all of the ones we had were pretty blah. They have a limited food menu and you have to go to a machine to order. Cute hidden Biergarten in Tyson's -hence the name. They follow German style Biergartens with their payment system. You buy tokens at the outdoor booth and pay for your food/drinks inside. I got the frozen Mai Tai and let me tell ya, there quite possibly could've been 4 shots in one of those. They were strong and got the job done, quick! For some reason I thought it was smart to drink 3 of those but luckily I soaked the alcohol up with their food. Albeit the rude cooks in the back that made snarky comments about me, the food was actually quite good. The special of the day was a fried chicken sandwich which, not going to lie, was a solid 9/10. Their garlic parmesan fries accompanied the sandwich well. We also got a few bratwurst sandwiches. There was live music and Trivia, but we opted for Comedy Night in the basement. I came here for comedy, as they have it in the basement of this location almost every day of the week (Tuesday's are free and amateur nights, I'm not sure about the other days) and I had a great time! Employees here are friendly, the comedians have a great space to practice their craft, and the beer options are awesome as well! My only problem with this place (like everyone else) is the parking and location. You won't see this place from the street if you're looking for it and when you do find it, you'll see that they share a very busy and small lot with the hookah lounge next door. Not sure how they accommodate large crowds for special events, but I'll assume it's very messy. I would definitely come here again on a slower weeknight, but I don't know if I would feel up to battling for a parking spot on a busy weekend evening. P.S. What was mortifying was the RANCID human waste smell throughout the ENTIRE bar both upstairs and downstairs. There was no escaping it. The bathrooms were overflooded and didn't flush and THEN, the worker was MOPPING off water and blocked off half the bar. I'm thinking that the bathroom sewage system backed up and leaked into the bar. Think Oktoberfest, but a watered down version of it. The first obstacle you have to go through is the parking. You have to pay to park (if there's even parking available) or you have to park somewhere else and run past cars going at high speeds. Once you make it past the lot, you will have to buy tokens. It's different, but I rather not estimate how much I want to drink or eat before the night begins. I don't want to continually buy tokens throughout the night either. The price of the tokens also makes the food and drink a bit questionable; makes you wonder if you're overpaying for some options. The positives here is the beer and the live music. They definitely need to add more lighting outside because you can barely see anything. Biergarten's festive vibe seems like a good idea, but it's not a place I'd go to every weekend. A fun place to hang out for a chill night. If you're taking the metro, it's super convenient since the Biergarten is literally steps away from the Greensboro Metro Station. Like many have stated, it's a bit tricky finding the location if you're driving. I would look at their website to get clear directions to maneuver and find the beer garden. I was lucky to find a parking spot but I know many ended up parking at the garage. They do validate parking so the limited parking space is not a big turn off. There's a token system for drinks and food. We got wings, meatballs, and fries to snack on and it's decent for bar food. I enjoyed a glass of riseling and a raspberry beer. Let me start with the parking: Absolutely no parking next to the bar with all the construction going on around it, and no place to turn around if you do try to find any parking there...you have to back out. Now, with that being said, they provide validation for parking in the garage a couple buildings over, so it's not a huge deal. All I will say is the garage has a max height of 6'6" which is JUST enough for my f-150, so if you have anything that is lifted, forget about it and just uber. Now to the actual review of the bar: Good stuff: 1) LARGE outdoor seating area with a bar and small stage where there is typically a single acoustic artist playing covers. They also have games like corn hole and giant jenga. This is my favorite part of the bar. 2) Chip system is weird at first, and hard to get used to paying a large sum up front, but I feel you think more about what you actually want to drink, and spend less overall than at other bars. Once you get over that, I love the system. You buy chips, tip at that time, and then you just swap them out for drinks. No waiting for CC's to be closed out for other customers, no forgetting your card behind the bar because you had a tab open. Easy peasy. 3) All beers are NOT POURED EQUALLY. That means you may think "No way is this light pilsner is worth $8." Well, it's a half liter pour (one pint) that doesn't require any additional tipping (you have the option of tipping when purchasing the chips if you'd like), and it's an imported beer. Some of the heavier beers are .25L if their ABV is at a certain level, but I feel it all falls in line with the cost of the area, if not undercuts it a little bit. 4) The food is a pretty stellar deal. $8 for two brats with two sides? Excellent. To be improved: 1) The wine isn't anything special, but the pours are slightly heavy, so that *almost* makes up for the $8 price tag. I would like to see better selections in this category, or double pours of the cheap stuff for $8. 2) Beer selection is pretty good, but I would love to see some rotational specials thrown in upstairs. I think this would be exciting for the customers, as well as throw in some additional variety. Overall: I enjoy the spot, especially outside, though there is also plenty of space inside (upstairs, downstairs with the picnic style tables, second indoor bar and stage, and a small upstairs area). The brats were pretty good, I thought the wings were excellent, the warm potato salad was decent but not great (a bit lacking in flavor), and the fries were extremely basic bar fries. Overall, I was very happy with the food for the money. I recommend this spot, especially for a nice BIG light beer and some games on a warm sunny day. read more

Don't waste your time! I was so excited to try this place out. The idea is a good one, but first impressions are the most important after all. When we arrived the first thing we noticed was the chaos of parking. They had a valet - more money for you to spend - but if you made the mistake of trying to look for a spot in the tiny parking area there was hardly any room to turn around to get out. This is not D.C., the other bars in the area all have private parking, and usually plenty. The nonsense of buying different color chips to pay for food and drink was beyond frustrating. Each chip is $8 - regardless of the type of beer ordered, food was the same. We did buy food chips but never got to use them because the line was so long. I guess they get to keep that money, perhaps that was the plan. We went from one long line buying chips to another line to wait to order drinks...ugh. The food - honestly I don't even know what they were offering. There were no menus to be seen. I happened to catch a glimpse of a sign, hidden behind an employee, that they had only 3 items. French fries, brats, and pretzels. All of these items are some of my favorites, but why in the world would these three be even prices - I would never pay $8 for french fries!!! We actually left to go get food elsewhere. The outdoor area looked awesome. However, once we spent some time there I changed my mind. We were outside perhaps 30-40 minutes (because of rain and atmosphere). Two different people dropped their drinks and there was shattered glass everywhere. No one came to clean it up either. There were bar games like beer pong, shuffle board and more. However, many of the games are small - maybe travel - sized. I'd guess they were for children, however I would not say this establishment is child friendly at all. The biergarten advertises being 3 floors, it's not. There is a basement with community tables, televisions, and a bar with less options than the upstairs. The 'third' floor is really just a loft-like balcony. No one that went up their stayed. Also, the entire main floor, which includes the loft, has an open ceiling. Since the doors and windows are left open there was condensation dripping from the ceiling. So much so that the chairs and tables on the 'third' level were too wet to use. The absolute bottom line is ... don't waste your time. read more

Some friends and I got to check out Tyson's Biergarten late night after grabbing HH and eating dinner on my birthday recently. My expectations were high because I was excited that a beer garden was finally opening up closer to me (rather than in Arlington or DC). PROS: It's a nice, outdoor area to enjoy some drinks. They had live music and a guy playing guitar on the night we went (last Wednesday night). Corn hole is set up around the picnic tables outside. CONS: My only criticism is that everything is $8. I could see why they keep prices uniform; there is a token system in which you exchange your token chip for a drink (beer or liquor-based) or food. However, I would rather buy a beer with regular cash or card and pay less (like at most other bars), than have to pay the same price as a mixed drink. **Also, the night we went, they ran out of a lot of the beers on tap... Overall, it's an OK place to check out... I expected more from the place, but since it's new, hopefully they'll add more to it, and improve in the future. read more

As a person who's not a beer lover, Tysons Biergarten just doesn't do it for me. The token system for payment is annoying. You have to estimate ahead of time exactly how much food and drink you'll want, or you'll have to take a few extra steps to buy more tokens. The convoluted ordering system forces you to go to different areas of the facility depending on what type of beer you want or if you want food. Overall, it's just a ton of work to go to a place that's basically just a bar. Their patio is fine if you're there during one of the two months that the weather is pleasant, but they could use way more shade in the outside seating areas. The food leaves much to be desired. I generally like good-quality German food, but this was greasy and bland. Also, you have to stay and wait for them to call your number, which isn't a lot of fun if you're there with a group, and part of the group has to stake out your table while the other half stands in the food area. The parking situation is horrendous, which I could accept if it were in DC, but Tysons is nothing BUT parking lots! I've seen other reviews suggesting you take an Uber, but good lord, this is TYSONS, and they should have parking! If nothing else, you can park at one of the many nearby shopping centers and walk over. I'd go back again if friends wanted to go, but I wouldn't go out of my way for it. read more

Visited during their soft opening, cool layout with the garden next to the office buildings and Greensboro Metro! Tysons Biergarten is a great place to hang out after work with friends and colleagues, especially when the weather is nice out. I went with some coworkers after work hours, and we had a great time. The garden area is fenced off and has plentiful wooden picnic table seating. There is plenty of greenery to impart that "garden" feeling. They have live music as well, and that definitely adds to the feel-good atmosphere. You enter the main building, and the beer bar is immediately to the left. They actually use a "token" or "poker chip" system, where you purchase a drink chip and then redeem it at the bar for whichever type of beverage you've purchased. This is an interesting twist (some mentioned it was actually the authentic experience) on the system and could definitely speed things up when ordering at the bar. There isn't much seating or standing room on the main floor itself, but there there is an upstairs for additional seating. We also heard there is a downstairs that will be an "American" beer bar. We got to sample a bit of their preliminary food offerings, and it was all really good, especially the sausages - a staple at any biergarten. Another decor note - the huge wall mural next to the biergarten is done by a local artist and features original designs (including the artist's own actual LV design!). It's a great touch to tie the location to the local community. Overall, Tysons Biergarten should be off to a fantastic start, and I've got high hopes for their success! read more

I reeeeally wanted to like this place and I hope they can get the kinks worked out because the potential is certainly there; the execution not so much. We arrived about twenty minutes after the ribbon cutting and immediately began our day of waiting in lines. They decided to go the way of crappy music festivals and force patrons to stand in line to purchase tokens before they are then forced to stand in another line to get a drink or food. Yep. Stand in line to stand in line. Awesome. The outside area has a fair amount of picnic tables set up and there were a couple of bar games being played. Unfortunately the games were all very cheap and felt as if they would break any second during the normal course of use. Not sure why they decided to buy the cheapest versions of these games available but they did. The process for getting food was ridiculous as well. They basically only offer brats, pretzels, and fries (and varying versions of each) but for some reason people were waiting over 45 minutes just to get their food. There is no reason any of the above menu items should take 45 minutes. I decided to get out of line and move on when one guy came back into the line yelling at the workers that he was STILL waiting on his food 45 minutes later. There was a lot of beer flowing and the bartenders were doing their best but it's just a bad set up. The kegs would run out and they would be down for far too long. The way the lines were set up outside kinda made it impossible for the people at the front of the line to step aside if the keg was tapped and let the next person in line order. Definitely created a logjam and clogged up the process. I get that this was opening day so I understand things need to be worked out. But, honestly, unless they change the way they're doing business I just don't see the negatives as something that can be fixed over time. It either needs to be completely revamped or these same problems will exist six months from now. We'll definitely be back though since we got tired of waiting in line and left with several tokens still in our pockets. FINALLY got a chance to check this neat place out and it was well worth the wait! It's exactly hidden gems like these that would make any Yelper happy. If you're looking for something different than the normal bar scene in our area, look no further. The place has an awesome vibe to it. There is live music, plenty of outdoor seating and a super fun crowd to jive with. They have a unique chip system too which I found to be a cool twist to the whole experience. Essentially what you do is buy your chip, order and enjoy. It's easy as can be and doesn't force you to have a tab open. The beer selection was top notch and perfect for anyone wanting to try a sip of something new. Pair a cold brew with their delicious pretzel and you're good to go! Also, the service was top notch! The staff was super friendly and helpful with any questions I had. The owner even came by and asked me how I liked the place and made sure we were having a good time. Buzzkill? Killjoy? The system does its best to make what's otherwise a good bar into something you don't feel like visiting again. So why not a 1-star? Great atmosphere. Great beer selection. Updated 1/11/2019 Still a great beer selection and some of the best currywurst that I've had on this continent. This being said, I need to reduce my rating due to the change in atmosphere. The owners seem desperate to maintain business levels during the ongoing construction in the area. To that end, the establishment has turned into more of a beer garden themed nightclub/sports bar with "Swish" by Tyga thumping at max volume and 3 separate games one the 20+ TVs, and the type of crowd that flicks to either of those venues. The identity crisis of the venue doesn't seem to put off most of their clientele as the place is pretty consistently packed, however folks like me who seek a more traditional Biergarten experience have become more and more alienated and cast out in the cold. Seriously - I'm typing this in their outdoor area where the temperature is below freezing just so I can hear myself think and they only have one of the space heaters turned on for the bouncer. I'm happy for the owners, as it looks like they're able to stay afloat/turn a profit, but I can't say that I'm still enticed to come here unless I have a specific craving for the currywurst and a good German beer. Never had I had a bad experience here. The parking is limited and annoying, but there is a garage for overflow. The best time to go is in the warmer months where you can play games, sit outside and enjoy live performances in the picnic area. They have 3 levels but when there is a big event, it gets crowded fast. The basement usually has something going on ie. performers, trivia, etc. The chip system is very smart so that you don't have to open and close a bar tab, and sometimes forget your card at the bar and get charged automatic gratuity, like most bars often do. A lot of the bartenders are really cool but there are a few that flat out won't make eye contact with you even though you're holding tokens and nobody else is standing at the bar. Tyson's Biergarten has an interesting system set up. You have to buy tokens for all the beers and food. The beer tokens are $8.50. It isn't horrible but interesting they don't have any other way to pay. They have a decent selection of beers. I've tried the French fries and pretzel and those were good. The food: German inspired menu from giant pretzels to different sausages, as well as standard bar favorites such as cheese fries and chicken tenders. I love the Biergarten! I work extremely close to here so it's great to just walk over after work with some colleagues. I love the whole experience - I like that you have to get the chip and then exchange it for your beer. It adds to the atmosphere and makes it feel authentic. They also don't expire so if you buy multiple chips and don't use them in the same night, you can always use them next time! They have some great tasting beers and I try to get something new every time I go. The most recent time I went was my first time getting food there too. I got a pretzel and it was hands down the BEST pretzel I have ever had! The only thing I would say is that they can be a little pricey...... with tip 1 beer adds up pretty quick and I am always hesitant to purchase more when I'm there. Still great though! read more

I love this spot! This is the best new happy hour and fantastic place to meet up with friends in Tysons and McLean! Service is amazing, food is delicious (portions are generous) and obviously the beer great...served in big traditional bier glasses! There has been a great mix of people every time I've been there. And during my most recent visit, the staff was super accommodating in the outdoor garden area of my 2 dogs, even providing a dog bowl with ice water! The atmosphere is straight up traditional German Biergarten with tokens to purchase drinks and food. There are a TON of outdoor picnic tables with umbrellas for shade. There's is live music and lots of drinking games. There is a tot play area!! Which is amazing! This place has everything and I can't say enough about how awesome of it is! Overall this place is pretty cool, though I understand a lot of the issues people have with the payment and parking set ups. This is one of the few places where you can get a solid Biergarten experience: good German beers, massive Bavarian pretzels (I was so happy to find these were not just frozen Superpretzel brand), and various wurst plates. They even have a couple good vegetarian options, though I wouldn't put the veggie wurst at the top of my list in terms of good meat substitutes. The setting is interesting, there is no mistaking you're back among a bunch of office buildings and parking garages in Tysons, but the outdoor section is spacious and welcoming for families/dogs, and it looks like they have a pretty nice indoor section downstairs (it was completely empty during my visit since the weather was still warm). I actually don't mind the chip system, it is a bit strange but it didn't bother me. It is odd that everything is $8, though for a good beer at a restaurant in Tysons, that's about right, and I think the food is actually a great value at that price. But the lack of pagers or any sort of useful system for picking up the food is pretty crappy. I've never heard of a place where customers literally have to guess when their order is ready and go back to the kitchen to get it themselves. I understand they have a BIG area to service, but come on--if pagers don't work, you could have an SMS-based system, or runners looking for number cards on tables, or a giant speaker blasting out order numbers...literally anything would be better! Overall I'd definitely come back--it might be a bit of a stretch to battle the weekday traffic and crowds for happy hour, but as a place to gather with friends and enjoy good beer and hearty food on the weekends, I'm in! read more
