First time at this location. Food was really good! Cornbread was some of the better cornbread I've had, but some of the menu items definitely seem a bit overpriced... like the bacon appetizer. For $13, it's was 2-3 strips of bacon broken up into 8 pieces and really wasn't that good. Biggest disappointment of the evening. The rest of the food was good though! The place itself was rather loud in nature so conversation was difficult at times, but there must have been a few business parties in there. Great decor, business casual was appropriate for the area we were in. Our server was phenomenal. Very informative and had a great sense of humor. Really enjoy his presence and attention to detail.

Founding Farmers Tysons delivers some delicious food. The atmosphere is upscale without feeling pretentious, the service was attentive and genuinely friendly, and the food was outstanding from start to finish. Fresh ingredients, huge flavor, and portions that actually satisfy. From the drinks to dessert-- it was definately worth the visit.

One of my go-to date night spots, and overall, I've had consistently good experiences here. One thing I really appreciate is the farm-to-table aspect. You can genuinely taste the freshness in the food, and the menu has a lot of variety, which makes it easy to come back and try something new. If you ever catch their fried okra on the menu, GET IT. I cannot recommend it enough. It's that good. I also usually start with their spinach and artichoke dip, which never misses. I've been wanting to try the fried green tomatoes next, so I'll definitely be back for that. They used to have a vegetarian burger that I loved, but since they took it off the menu, I've been trying their other options like the beet/apple-style burger. My go-to move now is swapping the standard bread and getting it on a potato bun instead, it's chef's kiss!! The sauce they use ties everything together perfectly and the fries? I love them every single time . For drinks, I usually go with the hibiscus soda or their soda or the day. It's refreshing and a nice change from the usual options. For dessert, their apple pie is a 10/10. I've had it multiple times and it never disappoints. The key lime pie is more of an 8/10 for me, but still solid. My husband swears by their chocolate cake. The ambiance is another reason I keep coming back. It's alm, cozy, and perfect for a date night or a relaxed dinner. Service can be a little hit or miss. Most visits have been smooth, but the last time we went, things were a bit slower. Our waiter was delayed, and our fries came out a little cold. That said, when it's not busy, service is usually quick and attentive. All in all, I'd give Founding Farmers a solid 4 out of 5. Great food, great vibe, just slight inconsistency with service at times. Definitely still a spot I'll keep in rotation.

Founding farmers is one of my favorite spots for southern food in NoVa! I love the fried chicken if I'm eating in or a Jefferson Donut if I'm getting something to go! Founding Farmers can get busy on the weekends for brunch, so make a reservation!

Food - We ordered the corn bread and spicy tuna bites as starters. Corn bread was perfect buttery goodness with pieces of corn inside(my favorite kind of corn bread but harder to find than you'd expect). Spicy tuna bites were tasty and fresh. New menu item for Founding Farmers and well done in my opinion. For entrees my partner ordered chicken pot pie and I ordered fried chicken which came with greens and mashed potatoes, plus a biscuit or donut. The chicken was great! Tons of flavor and seasoned well. Greens were pretty good, the mashed potatoes were just ok. The pot pie had a lot of fillings and also came with mashed potatoes on the side. Could use more pie crust but I'm a crust fiend so skewed view on that lol. This location also has a breakfast/bakery counter in the front near host stand. We got a cookie and slice of cake to go. Awesome little touch for desert/baked goods/breakfast on the go. Service - The host staff were very friendly and helpful. Our waitress was amazing! Checked on us regularly and provided updates on timing of food, etc. She was very knowledgeable of the menu and gave us some recommendations. Ambiance - Restaurant was bright and bustling but didn't seem loud. We were seated within minutes without a reservation on a weekday afternoon. Everything was clean and well maintained. They also offer parking validation for the garage right next to the restaurant. Founding Farmers is a reliable choice for that quality home cooked feeling, this was our first time checking out this location. We'll be back when in the area!

Amazing buffet! They have everything that you want southern style. The staff is absolutely wonderful and very attentive. I highly recommend sitting in the outside area. They are always filled up with people and the outside is a bit more quiet, but where ever you sit the food and staff are amazing.

I had been here several years ago for dinner and did not remember loving it, so I wasn't sure what to expect. I came for all you can eat brunch, which was $35.50 per person. I think it didn't seem too badly priced, but it didn't include drinks which kind of stinks. I got a wide variety of food, from the crab dip to the Mac and cheese, along with pancakes and French toast. There were definitely hits and misses. The hits for me were the crab dip and the French toast, along with the roast beef. The biggest miss was definitely the Mac and cheese, which tasted like nothing and the pasta was very overcooked. For a buffet, I thought the food wasn't bad. Ambience is good, it is a huge restaurant with a ton of seating. I didn't particularly like my server, he seemed a little bit pushy.

First time at Founding Farmers and it was a great experience all around. The vibe is cozy and welcoming, and the food felt like elevated comfort classics. We tried several of their newer menu items and everything was solid. The chicken pot pie was warm and comforting, the shrimp, serrano, mango & coconut ceviche was fresh and balanced, and the California Old Bay lump crab roll was generously filled and full of flavor. The grand meatball with amaretto and cremini mushroom cream was a standout, and the tequila lime grilled shrimp over jambalaya had a nice kick. Cocktails were also a hit -- Pear 75, G&T Fizz, and espresso martini. Dessert was a tough choice between the chocolate devil's food cake and key lime pie. Shoutout to our server Ryan for great service. Would definitely come back.

Ambiance is good. Friendly server but food is not as good as it used to be. Honey bacon was so little for $13. I think they only used 2 stripes of bacons. Pasta was overcooked. The only thing was good was a donut.

Business meeting tonight- 4-top- and frankly it was not a bad place to have a conversation with some decent food. The menu is quite large with options across many palettes. It sounds like the menu does change as a colleague wanted a steak salad that was no longer on the menu. The restaurant is larger than what you can see by just walking in, there is a huge back part with plenty of seats, and it was quite full when we were there - we had reservations and I'd recommend you do the same. Others have talked about the wait to order and there is improvement here to be had. We were given menus and their recommendations and the waiter probably didn't return for 20 or more minutes. When the food did come, it was very good, good enough for one of my colleagues to bring home the leftovers. They did a decent job on keeping our waters filled. I didn't know if I was supposed to validate or not, but did have to pay for parking in the structure - it was a little over $8. That being said there is plenty of parking available since it is near the large mall in tysons corner, even if you have to pay. I was recommended to come back for a breakfast/ brunch, though for business it is generally not in the cards, but sounds like this place is good nearly for every meal.

Came here for a holiday party and the food was amazing. Everything was good. The steak was cooked to perfection. The drinks were on point although I didn't really care for the margarita 2019 which was tasty. However it was too sweet for my liking. The wings were sticky and flavorful. Service a good, the servers were very attentive and knowledgeable of their menu. The ambiance was cool-your average country kitchen look. Parking was a breeze-it was free during my visit but not sure if this is always the case. This place was packed, but it was also holiday time,so I'm not sure if that's the norm or not. I would recommend giving them a try if you haven't already. The menu is pretty large and they have plenty to choose from. Im definitely returning . I've been to one of the DC locations before but for some reason the Tyson's location felt better.

I have been coming to founding farmers in both Tyson's and in Dupont since it's inception almost 10 years ago it is always one of the most delicious dinners I can ever ask for their drinks are incredible as well! Every time I come, I get the sausage and mushroom gnocchi and it never disappoints. Paired with the constitution cocktail especially on happy hour when the drinks are seven dollars. You will have a fun evening.

I've been to Founding farmers in the past, and always left thinking it was a little bit of an overpriced experience. My most recent visit, unfortunately, doesn't change that, but if you're looking for a farm to table, southern vibe, with choices to accomodate your entire party, or to take someone from out of town, this isn't a bad place. IMO it's not going to wow, but it's not going to let you down... I'm glad to see that the various fees (recovery fee, wellness fee), etc. were taken off the bill after community criticism, and as you can see I hadn't been back because of those fees for many years. Food portion sizes are fairly small, even the burgers are around the $20 range. We got a gnocci which was quite tasty, albeit small, and the surprise hit of this meal was the farro salad - it was listed in the sides as opposed to the salads section. Service was quick and efficient, and so we were thankful to be able to get in and out very quickly. It's also worth noting that we entered the restaurant at 2pm, and reservations were full from 11-1pm, on a Sunday.

Founding Farmers Tysons Reviews in Other Languages

Ask the Community - Founding Farmers Tysons

Is it noisy during the week for lunch?

It's suitable for a business or social lunch- not too noisy.

Do they still charge the BS economic recovery fee?

    Yes they do

On weekends, is only the brunch buffet offered? Or is the weekday breakfast (a la carte) menu offered as well?

They only serve the brunch buffet, not the menu, on weekends.

Is there direct access to outdoor seating without entering inside the restaurant?

    Yes

    Does this location offer reservations?

Yes! But everyone in the party has to be present to be seated. They do get busy quickly so it's good to make reservations ahead of time.

    Is there a kids menu?

Hi Katie! While we do not have a kids menu, we do have kid-friendly items, such as our Baby Cheeseburgers, Grilled Cheese & Tomato Soup, and a variety of hot dogs and pasta! :) -Kerry

Does the Tyson location have an a la carte menu on Sunday or only a brunch Buffett?

They have both if you want but the buffet is probably the best value.

    How's the trout?

    Very good!!!

Do they have bottomless mimosas at brunch buffet?

No, mimosas (and other beverages) are available to order individually but are not bottomless. However, the fixed price brunch includes unlimited tea/coffee/iced tea.

Traveling solo at the beginning of May and this place sounds wonderful. Do I need a reservation for dinner or will walking in be fine?

It is definitely better to have a reservation here as the wait can sometimes be excessive otherwise. Even though you are traveling solo if you want to be at a table in lieu of the bar, I'd suggest making a reservation. You can always cancel or… Read more

They have a few tables with umbrellas for cover during the day and even some lighting for nights. Food: The steak and sushi combo was interesting. The sirloin bites were small, but good, the sushi was mid - just not enough tuna on the crispy tuna rice and not enough flavor. The pesto spaghetti (Shrimp and Scallop Spaghettini) was good, but came with only two shrimp and a handful of the smallest scallops I've ever been served. The salmon entree was cooked well. Drinks: The cocktails were the highlight of the night. Several good margarita and martini variations on the menu that were perfect for the weather. Service: This was the worst part of the meal. Our server seemed to be frazzled the whole night. Twice during the meal we had our drinks delivered to the wrong table. The manager verbally apologized, but took nothing off the bill. It wasn't just our table though - we saw several of our server's tables get the wrong food or drinks. It also took a really long time to get water refilled at the table which was an issue in the heat. Verdict: 6/10. If they ironed out the kinks with service and dropped their prices by 10% on select dishes (tiny sirloin bites and subpar crispy tuna rice for almost $50 is madness), they would probably be an 8/10. I'll probably give them one more try and just avoid some dishes.

They were playing the World Cup games on TV so that was cool. The vibe was pretty calm and cool. The service was to be desired. The bartender wasn't very friendly and attentive. He didn't seem like he wanted to be bothered. Unfortunately, we didn't enjoy our experience with him. We didn't order food but we ordered two drinks. I ordered the old fashioned and my friend ordered a beer. The old fashioned was really good. A little two sweet but definitely enjoyable. The beer was pretty tasty as well. It was a pale ale. Overall, it was good time. I recommend to check it out if you are in the Tyson Corner area. I will be back soon. Cheers!

Delicious Indian restaurant - great happy hour and brunch spot!…read more The happy hour from 4pm-7pm Monday-Fri is an amazing deal. I ordered 2 dishes and a cocktail for under $20! I requested for the Paneer Tikka Flatbread (not on the menu)- vegetarian version of the Chicken Paneer Tikka Flatbread. The naan pizza was delicious, it was stuffed with cubes of paneer with a side of Tikki Masala dipping sauce. Highly recommend it! You can get the Paneer Pizza next door too! The Paneer Tacos were filling and fun to try, but large chunky blocks of paneer. While I enjoyed the spicy mayo sauce, I wish the paneer was cut up into cubes. It just felt a bit heavy with the paneer. The Spinach Artichoke Fritters (4) were tasty. The Mango Mojito and the Mumbai Mule cocktail weren't that good, but it honestly it's hard to complain when it's only $6/drink. The unlimited weekend brunch at $38 is a great deal and well worth it! You can choose from over a dozen Indian fusion dishe - as a bonus mango lassi, chai, and soft drinks are included! You can order 2 dishes/person at a time and the servers hastily swing by to clear your plates and place your next order! Between the 3 of us, we ordered almost conquered the full brunch menu and had a delightful brunch feast! The food had a spicy kick, but not overpowering and wasn't greasy. The portions range from small, bite-size apps to full, large entree size. There's a lot of vegetarian dishes on the menu with a few non-veg as well. There's a good balance between traditional Indian dishes and Western fusion with a hint of American flavors/presentation. My favorite stand-outs: - Aam Chat Papri with crispy Papri pita like chips with mango, chick peas, and potatoes smothered in yogurt and chutney, and topped with spicy garam masala mix - Chana Bhatura with chick pea curry and fluffy, bubbly fried bread. Large portion. - Spinach and Artichoke Fritters - Crispy bite-size balls filled with creamy spinach artichoke dip, 4 come in an order and perfect for sharing! - Aloo Bravas - Crispy, diced potatoes very reminiscent of the Spanish Patatas Bravas with aioli sauce and mild masala spicy kick - Butter Chicken - My friend enjoyed it, solid full entree size. I didn't order or try it in, but it looked pretty tasty and could easily why she made a happy empty plate! - Nutella Bread Pakora - Tastes like a bites-size Nutella fried donut! So good we ordered another one! - Helluva Hallawa Trio - I enjoyed sampling the 3 types of Hallawa, ranging in savory (carrot) to more sweet and milky (my favorite). - Mango Lassi - The sweetness of the mango lassi helped to balance out and absorb the spiciness of the food. - Masala Chai - Great ending to a meal, perfectG caffeine pick me up! Paired well with the Nutella bread Pakora. The other dishes on the menu were fun to try, but would probably skip and save room for my faves: - Aloo Sabzi and Katchuri - The dense hollow shell katchuri (similar to a round empanada) made of dhal lentil smothered in Aloo potato curry sabzi was very filling and dense. After a couple of bites, I threw in the towel. - Egg Burgi and Paratha - The masala spicy scrambled egg on paratha flatbread was kind of bland and a very small portion. - Mango Mimosa - While the mimosas were only $4, it was quite tangy and didn't pair well with the meal. I wish fresh mango juice was used instead of mango flavored juice (tastes like Izzy). The lunch buffet (Mon - Fri 12pm - 2:30pm for $23 wasn't the best experience. Admittedly, I came to the buffet at 1:30pm and the food was tepid and sadly overcooked under the heat lamp. The plates were very small and it was hard to fit a bunch of food. I went to the buffet at least 3 or 4 times to try out the dishes in search of the perfect bite, which I sadly couldn't. There were 5 main standard dishes with 3 vegetarian dishes (Dal Makhani, Aloo Ghobi, and Mehti Paneer) and 2 non-veg featuring both chicken dishes (Butter Chicken and Chicken Curry) and a galore of fried fritters/pakoras (spinach, onion, potato) with a couple of new rotating stations with Pani Puri (not much going on) and Spinach Tikki and Fish Pakora fried fritters. The Mehti Paneer was quite greasy with a coat of grease at the top and the paneer was pretty stiff. It wasn't tender. The Dal Makhani was bland. The potato aloo potatoes were brittle as they were sitting under the heat lamp too long. The best part about the meal was the fluffy naan, which was made-to-order. I enjoyed 2 rounds! Order the Masala Dosa crispy! When we got it the 1st time on the lunch special, it was a bit rubbery and soggy. After the server asked us a few times whether we liked it, my hubby relented and told him the honest answer. The server got the dosa re-made to go extra crispy, which did the trick! The masala potatoes paired well with the dosa. I wasn't a fan of the Sambar. Based on the glowing brunch and happy hour experience, I would come back to try the lunch buffet with an early start right when it opens!

I love that their naan is thin vs the typical thick kind at restaurants and stores. The lunch special had great choices on it including biryani and butter chicken! Thanks for that! I enjoyed the masala chai tea, nice that it came with tea cookies, just wished it was a larger glass. I figured I'd like masala lemonade, and hadn't seen it on a menu before, the server cautioned me and offered a sample before I order it. sorry to say ew yuck but we tried it respectfully. I was verrryy shocked by the taste, almost tasted ritualistic it was so oddly gross. Lol Best service I've ever had at an Indian restaurant and food was delicious per usual of Indian food. One of my top 5 foods. Go, enjoy!!!

The staff explained they prepare omakase for a set number of guests, so they couldn't accommodate us last-minute. That said, the manager and his staff, our wonderful server completely turned the experience around with their kindness. The service was warm and attentive, and we still had an amazing time. I've already booked omakase for next week and can't wait to come back! The place has great vibes. Highly recommend!! I usually am enamored with speakeasies, but it was really hard to love this one…read more 1. Reservations - I've been with OpenTable and other restaurant online booking systems for decades but this is a first for me. They have two separate OpenTable listings (as noted in other reviews). I was clear in that i just wanted an after work chill happy hour. I booked for 4:30. After promptly showing up at the wren for my 4:30 appointment I was told, Naisho room doesn't open until 5 pm.... So why did you let me book for 4:30?!?! No explanation. No apology just "you're early..." 2. I promptly dropped $70 for drinks and an appetizer at the Wren bar to hold me and my guests over. It wasn't bad but that's not what I was hoping for... at 4:30. 3. The service to the speakeasy was great. The "gym stag" had our 4:30 and let us in at... 5:03 pm... 4. The waitress inside the speakeasy was super awkward and off putting. She really needs a class on etiquette. I ordered quite a bit right off the bat but my guests slow roll throughout the experience and she didn't seem too happy with that. Taking away our menus doesn't encourage us to order either. You charge $22 for one tea sandwhich but can't afford to print out more menus? The menus were also pretty dingy and I hand sanitized after using them. 5. Food. Was mid at best. Not at all authentic Japanese. I had the oyster shooter, temaki, Wagyu toast, Wagyu quesadilla, and mocktail. The oyster shooter was too sweet. And you could only taste the oyster and caviar at the end. Mostly as an aftertaste. There was a "too sweet" aspect to most of the food. The temaki was okay and I liked the crunchy bits but they went too far with the plastic wrap on the seaweed. The plastic wrap gave me Japanese 7-11 onigiri vibes. You do that if you aren't efficient enough to get the food out to guests at once and the seaweed will get soggy. I'm not sure if it was for a "fun factor" for people who are unfamiliar with grocery store onigiri in Asia but in a restaurant it should be done for you. The Wagyu toast was a HUGE disappointment. It was Sooooo sweet. I filet barely taste anything except the gross, sweet jam. And the toast was soggy and the texture of the bread felt prepared the day before and like refrigerator. It was not toasted at all. The star was the Wagyu quesadilla with beef tendon chips. It was the cheapest item on the menu and the most filling and delicious. 6. Drinks were very good. Expect about $20 a pop... $50 for the Japanese whiskey is highway robbery. Nothing really "rare." I have most bottles on the kitchen counter from the Virginia ABc or DC Costco. You can buy an entire bottle of the Japanese whiskey at Costco for the cost of one serving here. Overall, the Naisho room felt like all hype. For over $100 I was still pretty hungry. If the food tasted good I would have ordered more but I didn't think it was worth it. You get a nice view but it's the same from most of the capital one building. Same view from the brewery. Don't waste your money. Go elsewhere. Plenty of better happy hour spots for much much less considering if you stay for more than two hours you have to pay for parking (we did becuase, well, our reservation was at 4:30...)

O my! I don't know where to start…read more.. Chris L. was our serve on this trip and he had wonderful recommendations, like: 1. Golden hour cocktail - It was just lovely! It tastes like the best rum punch you've had. It was perfectly sweet, but not too sweet. Beautiful in color. So good I had to sip this one very slowly...like it was the last or only one ever made. DELICIOUS! He also recommended the: 2. Smoked Old Fashioned and it was served to perfection as well. Nice and smoky and smooove. Then...we had the lobster tacos. I don't like lobster. Well, I didn't like lobster until I tried these tacos. To be honest, the lobster tasted like crab legs and the taco was dressed in all fresh ingredients (avocado, charred corn, cilantro, and a fresh flour tortilla) Alright...then next up was the Panko Crusted Sole. It is not filleted tableside because it is pan seared in the kitchen. It was very filling. I think I had three nice-sized filets. It came pretty much with a light and fresh tomato salad. You should do it! Then there was the Crab Cake, which was good. It was in the sweeter end. It was a large portion. It does not have jumbo lump crab meat, but don't let that deter you. Christ also informed us that the "Accompaniments" (sides) could be ordered in half sizes and indeed we - I - had a half size of the Au Gratin Potatoes. They were very smooth, flavorful, and creamy. Also, shouts out to Oscar who held down the water service and the other little things in between that also made this evening even better. The ambiance...I can't wait to head here again on Friday! I went in Saturday evening and the 3 Bears (band) was the live musical entertainment. They were AMAZING! To be honest, I just want to drop in and get a salad and drink...but everything else was so wonderful that $300 later, I'm writing this review. It was worth every penny - and don't forget to tip the band yall! That's it.

First, the au gratin potatoes were tasty and even better when I reheated them the next day. The dumplings first came out cold, and when they were replaced, they didn't have much flavor. I ordered the lemon tart to take home, and I really wish I hadn't. It lacked flavor, and the crust was not crisp. I was very disappointed. Service at the bar was a little hit or miss. The bartenders were very busy, and the waiters would walk by, avoiding any eye contact. Also, the host needs tips on greeting guests. Instead of asking how he could help us or if we had a reservation, he just stated that they were booked all weekend. During our time at the bar, only half of the tables filled up.
