I had been here several years ago for dinner and did not remember loving it, so I wasn't sure what to expect. I came for all you can eat brunch, which was $35.50 per person. I think it didn't seem too badly priced, but it didn't include drinks which kind of stinks. I got a wide variety of food, from the crab dip to the Mac and cheese, along with pancakes and French toast. There were definitely hits and misses. The hits for me were the crab dip and the French toast, along with the roast beef. The biggest miss was definitely the Mac and cheese, which tasted like nothing and the pasta was very overcooked. One of my go-to date night spots, and overall, I've had consistently good experiences here. One thing I really appreciate is the farm-to-table aspect. You can genuinely taste the freshness in the food, and the menu has a lot of variety, which makes it easy to come back and try something new. If you ever catch their fried okra on the menu, GET IT. I cannot recommend it enough. It's that good. I also usually start with their spinach and artichoke dip, which never misses. I've been wanting to try the fried green tomatoes next, so I'll definitely be back for that. They used to have a vegetarian burger that I loved, but since they took it off the menu, I've been trying their other options like the beet/apple-style burger. My go-to move now is swapping the standard bread and getting it on a potato bun instead, it's chef's kiss!! The sauce they use ties everything together perfectly and the fries? I love them every single time . For drinks, I usually go with the hibiscus soda or their soda or the day. It's refreshing and a nice change from the usual options. For dessert, their apple pie is a 10/10. I've had it multiple times and it never disappoints. The key lime pie is more of an 8/10 for me, but still solid. My husband swears by their chocolate cake. The ambiance is another reason I keep coming back. It's alm, cozy, and perfect for a date night or a relaxed dinner. Service can be a little hit or miss. Most visits have been smooth, but the last time we went, things were a bit slower. Our waiter was delayed, and our fries came out a little cold. That said, when it's not busy, service is usually quick and attentive. All in all, I'd give Founding Farmers a solid 4 out of 5. We came here years ago and I do feel like the menu used to have more variety, but the food was still really good. They had several hot entrée stations with baked salmon, salmon cakes, braised short beef, roast pork, and meatloaf, plus the usual breakfast stations for pancakes and omelettes. I loved the prosciutto farm and the crab and artichoke dip -- OMG so delicious! The salmon cakes were served in mini versions but tasted amazing and honestly reminded me of the ones I had in Alaska. For entrees my partner ordered chicken pot pie and I ordered fried chicken which came with greens and mashed potatoes, plus a biscuit or donut. The chicken was great! Tons of flavor and seasoned well. Greens were pretty good, the mashed potatoes were just ok. The pot pie had a lot of fillings and also came with mashed potatoes on the side. Could use more pie crust but I'm a crust fiend so skewed view on that lol. This location also has a breakfast/bakery counter in the front near host stand. We got a cookie and slice of cake to go. Awesome little touch for desert/baked goods/breakfast on the go. Service - The host staff were very friendly and helpful. Our waitress was amazing! Checked on us regularly and provided updates on timing of food, etc. She was very knowledgeable of the menu and gave us some recommendations. Ambiance - Restaurant was bright and bustling but didn't seem loud. We were seated within minutes without a reservation on a weekday afternoon. Everything was clean and well maintained. First time at Founding Farmers and it was a great experience all around. The vibe is cozy and welcoming, and the food felt like elevated comfort classics. We tried several of their newer menu items and everything was solid. The chicken pot pie was warm and comforting, the shrimp, serrano, mango & coconut ceviche was fresh and balanced, and the California Old Bay lump crab roll was generously filled and full of flavor. The grand meatball with amaretto and cremini mushroom cream was a standout, and the tequila lime grilled shrimp over jambalaya had a nice kick. Cocktails were also a hit -- Pear 75, G&T Fizz, and espresso martini. Dessert was a tough choice between the chocolate devil's food cake and key lime pie. Business meeting tonight- 4-top- and frankly it was not a bad place to have a conversation with some decent food. The menu is quite large with options across many palettes. It sounds like the menu does change as a colleague wanted a steak salad that was no longer on the menu. The restaurant is larger than what you can see by just walking in, there is a huge back part with plenty of seats, and it was quite full when we were there - we had reservations and I'd recommend you do the same. Others have talked about the wait to order and there is improvement here to be had. We were given menus and their recommendations and the waiter probably didn't return for 20 or more minutes. When the food did come, it was very good, good enough for one of my colleagues to bring home the leftovers. They did a decent job on keeping our waters filled. I didn't know if I was supposed to validate or not, but did have to pay for parking in the structure - it was a little over $8. That being said there is plenty of parking available since it is near the large mall in tysons corner, even if you have to pay. Came here for a holiday party and the food was amazing. Everything was good. The steak was cooked to perfection. The drinks were on point although I didn't really care for the margarita 2019 which was tasty. However it was too sweet for my liking. The wings were sticky and flavorful. Service a good, the servers were very attentive and knowledgeable of their menu. The ambiance was cool-your average country kitchen look. I've been to Founding farmers in the past, and always left thinking it was a little bit of an overpriced experience. My most recent visit, unfortunately, doesn't change that, but if you're looking for a farm to table, southern vibe, with choices to accomodate your entire party, or to take someone from out of town, this isn't a bad place. IMO it's not going to wow, but it's not going to let you down... I'm glad to see that the various fees (recovery fee, wellness fee), etc. were taken off the bill after community criticism, and as you can see I hadn't been back because of those fees for many years. Food portion sizes are fairly small, even the burgers are around the $20 range. We got a gnocci which was quite tasty, albeit small, and the surprise hit of this meal was the farro salad - it was listed in the sides as opposed to the salads section. Service was quick and efficient, and so we were thankful to be able to get in and out very quickly. It's also worth noting that we entered the restaurant at 2pm, and reservations were full from 11-1pm, on a Sunday. read more

I've definitely visited Founding Farmers a few times, and this is the first time I didn't like the food. Not because the restaurant is bad, it's actually not. Some of the dishes are good. First, the positives: the staff was amazing. Friendly, attentive, and welcoming from start to finish. The restaurant itself is beautiful, and the location is connected to business buildings near my job. There's also a parking garage, which is a plus. Now for the food. I usually stick to what I know, the fried chicken, sides, and a donut to take home. This time, I decided to switch it up orde the fried seafood , which comes with shrimp, a crab cake, fish, and fries. Unfortunately... the seafood was a huge letdown. I know Founding Farmers prides itself on farm-to-table style dishes, but being in the DMV, I expected better quality seafood! What I got tasted and looked like frozen, mass-produced seafood. The fish, shrimp, and even the crab cake were all heavily breaded with that crumbly, commercial-style breading you'd expect from frozen food. It honestly reminded me of something straight out of a Sysco bag. The portions were also surprisingly small for the price. Over $30 for what amounted to a few tiny pieces. The fish was barely bigger than a fish stick, there were only three shrimp buried under a ton of breading, and the crab cake was very small and also coated in that same frozen-style breading. The fries tasted like standard bagged frozen fries as well. For the price point and the reputation of this restaurant, the seafood really missed the mark. I hate saying it, but they absolutely dropped the ball here. Overall, I would still recommend Founding Farmers for the atmosphere, service, and some of their other menu items. read more

The portions are just right, and I like that it makes me feel like I'm not eating too much. I have tried other items on the menu and I have yet to be disappointed. The restaurant played good music, had a cool decor and an inviting lobby area where you can purchase fresh coffee, pastries, etc. My party and I all had breakfast. Our server( sorry I can't remember his name) was efficient- but not friendly. Now to the food which was underwhelming. I expected it to be better. I ordered the founding farmers breakfast which offered a lot of items at a descent price. I ordered the chicken sausage w/ eggs, hash browns and the French toast. I don't expect the staff to know that, but having some flexible seating options would be nice. Parking was another frustration. No one informed us that we needed to memorize our license plate number for validation, so I ended up paying for parking that should have been covered. Founding Farmers is a DMV staple, and this week was my last week in town before moving across the country -- so I forced my family to go to dinner and it was fantastic. We ordered loads of food, including: the Brie & apple bread (yummy!), crab dip (if you order anything, order this), the sliders, and then for our mains my dad got crab cakes which he said were pretty good, my mom had the risotto gnocchi was creamy and cooked perfectly, my brother had the steak which he said was cooked exactly how he wanted it to be and I had the seared tuna which was light and fabulous! Our waiters Aaron & Aaron were really on top of it, made sure to get us refills and check in regularly. Great customer service! Founding Farmers is really cute but definitely loud, so just be prepared to speak loudly (or listen closely) to your crew. read more

I came her for brunch today with my family to give it another try. We learned after sitting down that they only offer the buffet brunch on Sunday mornings at $33.50 a person, no a la carte. Not what I wanted, but we were there and didn't have time to go somewhere else at that point, so we figured we would give it a shot. The food was generally pretty good, though, there were definitely some issues, especially with the main courses - some were better than others. The bbq pork was tasty and tender, but the pieces of roast beef I got were so dry that they felt like sawdust as I chewed them in my mouth. Similarly, the shrimp for the shrimp and grits was way overcooked. I had one bite and went back for a different plate. The fried chicken was also OK, but tasted like it had been sitting out for a while. The desserts were also fine, but nothing special (or as good as I've had when ordered a la carte). The salads (esp. farmers salad) and artichoke dip were great, and I really enjoyed the French Toast with bananas and the caramel corn. My kids enjoyed the ice cream. I didn't have a bagel or breads, but they looked good, as well. The dessert winners were the cubes of key lime pie and cheese cake and the Jefferson donuts. The best thing we had was probably the cinnamon roll, but you have to ask for that special (as not on the buffet), and I only learned this from overhearing another diner nearby, as my waitress/bartender didn't share this intel. I hear there are other items you have to request, as well, but not sure what those are. Overall, I would have preferred ordering what I came in for - the chicken and waffles I have loved at the Tyson's and DC locations and not being forced to order the buffet, but it was what it is. If we go back, we'll check ahead to make sure they have more than just the buffet. read more

Everything in this restaurant is so delicious. I think i tried a little of everything as I went for a company outing. It can definitely hold bigger parties with reservations. The drinks were well made too. The service was soooo slow. My one gripe. The creme brule donut was really good although some people's had more custard than others so I think they can improve consistency. We went to FF for brunch on Sunday around 9 am. The server Bobbie was outstanding. She was personable and attentive. It's a nice restaurant inside. The seating and style are warm and bright. There were a lot of options on the brunch buffet and it was good but not one of the best brunch spots to me. The salmon, eggs with spinach, and pancakes were great. The shrimp and grits were not to my liking. The consistency of the grits was too close to a loose mashed potato instead of country style grits. Great weekend buffet at FF! There is a parking garage next to the entrance and they provide free validation. Reservations are a must. When we arrived there was nobody at the hostess stand for at least 15 minutes so the lobby got really full. Food wise, I enjoyed their offerings. The eggs, hash browns. Roast beef, fried chicken, bacon, salmon and crab dip were my favorite. My daughters really enjoyed their pancakes and French toast. Save room for their huge dessert station! Service was good. So, a bit disappointed with a neat looking place I haven't been to. Place was nearly empty, server took FOREVER to get one order in with what felt like on purpose (which comes into a eyebrow raising moment later) while there were 6 to 7 employees standing around talking, conversing, and joking, right next to my table. Steak Frits were three tiny burnt ends however the fries and BBQ sauce were fantastic. Same with the cornbread and bacon lollis. My waiter took over 30 min after coming by and seeing that I was finished with my meal to bring a desert menu out, at which I was already full and just wanted the check. What I feel was them trying to pull a fast one on me (the only thing that actually moved fast in the place) was them saying that the 50% only applied to entree dishes. I disagreed as per the website it was clear that it was the whole breakfast lunch or dinner menu. Which cost me another 15 minutes of my time. In the end they came back and told me that the promotion was not "well described" and that it was for entrees only. However, relented in the same sentence because I showed them that their website was crystal clear on what was applicable under the discount and what wasn't. Now I get to the front desk to see if they had a validation for the parking garage, of which they tell me the first two hours are free. But anything after that I had to pay $9 for. Come to find out, was in the joint for three dishes and a glass of tea and water for over two hours. Waiting mainly for service that was right next to my table, but to which my server was busy talking and joking with another table. Very unfortunate as it seemed like a great gesture by the company for the discount which I appreciate, however I'm wishing I went to the Olive Garden down the road instead. Mainly because of the high level of service I have received there. And I also can't shake the feeling that they were purposely delaying me to try and get me over the two hour mark on the parking too. We ended up forcing ourselves to try eat them all so we wouldn't waste food but we didn't eat them    *   The salmon was just okay... nothing memorable, nothing savory. Overall, everything tasted satisfactory, but not enjoyable or flavorful. For a $103 bill, this meal was definitely not worth it. Service: The service was just okay. We were seated by the bar, and our waitress kept disappearing because she was overwhelmed taking multiple orders from everyone around the bar. She wasn't rude just extremely busy but it did make the experience feel disconnected. Ambience: The ambience was decent. It was nice enough, but nothing that would make me want to come back.
