Took my wife and family here for a late Saturday night reservation. What a treat! If you can find a table, snatch it up. Drinks are great (I had a couple dirty martinis). Small plates meant for sharing. Highlights for us: Bluefin tuna; Toro tartar; Shrimp toast; Cabbage salad; Fried hamachi collar (that was our favorite); Gyoza. Warning... not cheap. But if you want GREAT sashimi, this is the place. Restaurant staff are friendly and helpful. They're quick to answer any question you may have if you don't understand what something is. We came to Indo for date night recently and had a wonderful experience. The food here was delicious and every bite was packed with tons of flavor. Our waiter was helpful and had good suggestions as far as which dishes to order. Although prices are high, the quality of the fish and amazing flavors stood out throughout this meal. To start off, we ordered the Isaan Hamachi and the Shrimp Toast. The sauce surrounding the hamachi dish was tangy and sweet, which paired well with the fish. I was pleasantly surprised with how delicious the shrimp toast was. The texture was great and provided a satisfying crunch. Before coming here, we heard great things about the hand rolls and decided to try the Benitoro, Spicy Tuna, and King Crab. Each roll highlighted the flavor of each fish. We also ordered the salmon curry dish (sake yaki) in order to try out a cooked fish selection. If you are a fan of Thai red curry, I'd highly recommend this dish. This dish was super fragrant and creamy. Lastly, we finished off the meal with some Mint Ice Cream and the Chestnut Cake. Both desserts did not disappoint and provided a nice sweet treat. read more

A solid restaurant for a date night, with an emphasis on quality and not quantity. The restaurant itself is a fairly small and intimate space, especially if you are sat towards the back of the a restaurant. Parking is straight forward with nearby street parking and lots. I'm one that appreciates a concise menu, and iNDO thrives in that department. We were told that all selections were mostly small plates meant to be shared. Recommendation for about 6 plates for our party of two. That seemed like quite a bit, especially for the price, but we were in the food to try new things and went with the following five plus a couple dessert options. Laarb, Kanpachi Sashimi, Palm Sugar Ribs, Massachusetts Scallops, Crying Tiger A5 Wagyu The helpful waiter stated that they would handle the timing of the courses, which turned out decent, but had an awkward long gap between a couple plates. The food itself had some hits and misses. The Wagyu can just go in its own category as it was perfection. But I personally would order 5 plates of the Palm Sugar Ribs because it was that good (and one of the cheapest items on the menu). The Kanpachi and Scallops were both decent, but did not stand out in my eyes. The Laarb just seemed to be there as we picked at it. I had some absolutely magical bites of food here. It's a tapas style Asian-Fusion place, with an up-scale atmosphere and great service. As a pro-tip, come witha. hungry group, order 2-3 plates per person, and skip out on dessert. The wine selection is good, and we had a white that paired quite nicely with most of the dishes. Here were our standouts: Crispy Tiger A5 Wagyu: 100/10 - One of the best bites I've had in a long time. It's REALLY expensive for the portion size, sure, but I think it's worth it. The meat is tender, umami, rich, chewy, and perfectly cooked. It's topped with a perfectly paired sauce and the crispy onions on top add a satisfying crunch. A must get if you can. Toro Tartare: 9/10 - The toro meat was fresh and rich, and it came with little crispies which added a perfect texture contrast. Wrapped up in a sheet of nori, this was wonderful. Sake Yaki: 10/10 - The Salmon was perfectly cooked, the skin was crispy, and the curry sauce was packed with a PUNCH of flavor. A beautiful both visually and flavor-wise. Gyoza: 8.5/10 - The gyoza themselves were as expected but I've never had fried gyozas that were so perfectly balanced with crispy richness and delicious flavor. If you like gyoza, go for these. We also had several sashimi dishes, all of which were wonderful. The fish is always top quality and INDO never fails to make fun flavor pairing that excite your taste buds. Here are the dishes you probably want to avoid: Shrimp Toast: 5/10 - Tasted like a crab cake but with shrimp. The texture was tough and the flavor was heavily oily. Not my favorite. Black Sesame and Banana Roll: 6/10 - I want to give this brownie points because of the creativity, but something about the banana bread nature of the dish was off putting. The black sesame cream on the inside, however, was really nutty and delicious. I'm also not sure what the point o the pomegranate seeds were, as they felt sort of random and unnecessary. Coconut Rice Pudding: 5/10 - A bland, very boring dessert. It was slightly coconutty, but nothing special, and the crispy layer on top was too heavy for my liking. Again, skip the desserts, and fill up on some amazing food. You likely won't be disappointed with almost anything you get off the main menu. read more

Nice ambiance in a neighborhood outside of St Louis downtown. Went there with some friends and had a lot of different dishes. All of their sashimi is served with unique flavors. Favorite was the salmon which was served with a spicy kick. Many unique dishes that were served perfectly. The had hamachi kama as well, which they seasoned really well. Dessert was also very tasty too. The server was very friendly and had some good suggestions to try. Overall a really great experience and a definite repeat. read more

My hubby and I came through St Louis for a little getaway and had reservations for Indo on a Wed evening. We opted to sit at the bar and Logan took care of us for the night and we had a fantastic time. We ordered the big Omakase which had an assortment of five hand rolls of Chef's choice, they were not cone shaped, rather the nori acted as 'taco' shells. I must say, they were very tasty and a fun take on hand rolls. The Toro was definitely the best. Then we had the King Salmon, Eggplant dish, Scallops with Ikura and a miso ice cream dessert. I'm not a huge fan of eggplant but this dish was surprisingly good. The King Salmon was very rich and fatty, paired well with the cocktails, and the miso ice cream was a little on the sweet side but the texture and combo of sweet and salty was on point. Logan is an awesome bartender and host. He definitely showed us a good time and showcased the Midwest hospitality beautifully. We were very glad we sat at the bar to get the full experience. The food and vibe were soo good!!! We truly enjoyed our time there. They suggested 6 dishes to share between 2 people but honesty, you need only 3. We ordered 5 and we had to pack the 5th dish to go because we were so full. But all the 6 dishes were 10/10. The only thing we didn't appreciate was the automatic 20% service fee charge. I believe unless it's a Michelin star, that should not be a thing. It feels like the waiter asked us to order more so his tip could be atomically high as well. Background -- I'm Chinese-American from Brooklyn, NY, and have backpacked all around. I have a pretty good sense of SEAsian cuisine after many summers in the region. I'm not sure what I was expecting, but I was pleasantly surprised by everything. The price was also extremely reasonable for the quality. Indo is an intimate, upscale restaurant in the Tower Grove area of St. Louis. They do take walk-ins (easier if you're in a small group, like 1 or 2), but reservations are preferred. They're known for their amazing hand-rolls and cocktails, and cool, dark modern aesthetic. Because I was dining on company per diem, I went with the small omakase (3 hand-rolls), an earthy cocktail, and the eggplant dish that was recommended to me by my colleague. The hand-rolls had fish that were surprisingly fresh, and even though I don't actually love sushi, these made my mouth water and wanting more. The cocktail was also perfectly balanced and packed a good punch to get you to tipsy. The eggplant was also marvelous lighter fare to combat all of the heavy meats I'd been having at barbecue joints in town. All around, a noteworthy dining experience -- though I'd say you'd need more food as a solo diner. This place would be great for larger groups where you could share. read more

My favorites this visit: Salmon Skin Chips & Chive Dip $10 Cherry Ocean Trout and Yellowtail Chirashi $15 Yellowfin Tuna Temaki $5 Hamachi Temaki $5 But I totally recommend splurging on the Seafood Platter $75: king crab, scallops, Japanese fish with garlic chili butter. It's not on their normal menu, just the social hour menu, so you have to get their early to try. If you can sit at the bar, the bartends cube the best suggestions. I had the "Let that Man-go" and Sampalok Sour. We also enjoyed the Toki highball w/ Camomile and the Whisky Cha Boran. We're big fans of dessert around here. We shared the Chestnut Cake with brown butter apple gastric & fig jam. It had an amazing crunch texture from the nuts on top. I wasn't sure what to expect with this but I left my hubby in charge of finding a cool place we could check out on a recent trip to STL. This was an unexpected highlight and so different than anything else we encountered in the best way possible. It honestly reminded me a little bit of Nobu- and that's not a comment I throw around lightly. This is definitely a special occasion place as it is on the pricier side given how the menu works. We did probably splurge a bit more than we normally would since we were celebrating our anniversary as well. Every piece of fish was insanely fresh. The handrolls are very unique but were amazing. The cocktails were next level and incredible. We also tried a couple of sashimi dishes that were delicious. Everything was insanely fresh and the pieces were pretty generous. The one slight miss was the crab fried rice. Flavorwise it was incredible and absolutely loaded with crab. However, some of the crispy rice was way over done and the rice was like chewing on rocks. It was also considered an entree but was pretty darn small. It's totally shareable if you order other things but it's small on its own for an individual portion (despite the price). It's always a treat coming to Indo and I was very happy to see everything on the menu is still spectacular. Shrimp toast is still amazing and their cocktails are always spot on. So I'm torn- there were a couple hits here, but there were some significant misses. I dined solo on a Saturday evening- reservation for inside at opening. I was the 3rd person in the door, but then I noticed others seated after me were waited on before me. Okay. Ordered the server recommended "Let That Man-Go" cocktail and then waited and waited and waited more until the server came over and apologized because they "lost" my drink ticket. Finally get the cocktail. Friends, that small glass was half-full at best. For a $14 drink I was not happy- did I say anything? No- because spit happens. Speaking of, when the server finally came to take my order and said "oh I forgot to tell you about the menu" and in the telling his spit me hit me below the eye -it took all my restraint not to Purell my face. Since I was dining alone I asked if the small omakase (3 hand rolls) and the shrimp toast seemed like enough. The server told me no- so I added the scallop tostada. It was more food than I needed. The hand rolls were all special and delicious and the shrimp toast did not disappoint. The scallop tostada- what was I thinking?! Just no. It was a Mexican Asian fusion with a bizarre muddle of flavors that should be retired immediately. 20% gratuity added. One diner- over $100- with shoddy service- and half a drink missing is so not good. Oh- thank goodness I was alone- the music was at max volume rendering table conversation a non-starter. SERVICE: The staff at this restaurant was amazing! They accommodated our large party. They even still held our reservation, even though we were running behind. The staff was great about getting everyone's food out. And they did not mess up a single order. FOOD: The restaurant is great for family style sharing the food. I really liked the sake sashimi and the salmon toast. I believe my party got two orders of the salmon toast. I think the restaurant has a very broad flavor profile. We finally got to try this place for our Friday night dinner and it was amazing! Service was fantastic and friendly, they make sure that they know your food allergies prior to the start of your dining experience which was much appreciated. We started with some cocktails. My husband had the taro shinju (sake, taro tea, cognac, apple and boba) and I had the Fuji Dew (whisky, lemon, saffron, ginger liqueur, sage and sparkling water) cocktail. He let me try his and it was delicious with some boba at the bottom... The taste reminded me a bit of an ube ice cream! Tasted more like a dessert drink! Mine was quite refreshing and perfect for the hot weather. For our dinner, we shared the following: * Shrimp toast - Loafer's bread, cucumber salad and mango sweet chili. * Yellowtail tuna sashimi - with furikake and ponzu. * Crispy tofu - served with fermented black bean, caramelized onion and chive salad. * Laksa - PEI mussels and prawns over red curry broth, ikura and chili oil. * Miso banana upside down cake with soy condensed milk. Everything was fantastic! I could have had another order or 2 of both the shrimp toast and the crispy tofu. Those were my favorites, for sure. Before we came, we did read about the portions and were prepared to have at least a few plates to share. But, I promise you, you will get full. We shared 4 different dishes and even had leftovers to take home and I was hungry when we came! If you are going to dine here, be aware that they do add 20% service charge to your bill. It is clearly stated on their website as part of a new standard and is also listed under the FAQ. Lastly, the place was clean and well-maintained. The noise level wasn't bad and although we were seated at a two-person table, there was ample space to accommodate a couple of dishes, our plates and our drinks. Next our waiter was super slow even when the restaurant died down! And I really think this restaurant is way over priced for the portions they're putting out. Then to add to it a 20% required tip?! I'm all for tipping for GOOD service, but we were barely attended to and spent half the night waiting for him to come back. He didn't even fill out water. Our server and the food runners helped us out so much, they described everything to the point that we knew what we were getting into when we ordered. Which I loved, because I see foreign words on the menu and I get a little anxious. I'll start off with the easy ones, dumplings and fried rice. Best. Dumplings. Ever. There was this layer of something crunchy on top, it was fun, but I don't know how much I needed it for the flavor. I think the best part of the dumplings was the soy sauce and scallions were on the bottom, so you got it in each bite, but it wasn't there to be seen. I enjoyed the crab fried rice. If I was just in a mood for rice, this would be perfect, unfortunately the rest of the menu is 1000x better and made the rice seem boring. On to the fun stuff. Each of the sashimi plates were perfect. I would never order any of these fish items, plain, so to have each ingredient bring so much to the dish, and compliment perfectly, it was like excitement in each bite. The food runners explained exactly what each bite would be and what to look forward to, I really appreciated that. The mushroom tekamaki, I really enjoyed the mushrooms, they were crisp and very savory, they could be a really nice garnish to another plate. It's a cool experience. All the dishes are presented with creativity and the flavors are different. They like to do the smoky flavor with a lot of their fish dishes. The cutest little restaurant on the block. It's looks small when you first enter but there is more seating in the back, including outdoor seating. The waitstaff are so nice and knowledgeable. It was our first visit and the host took the time to explain menu items and give recommendations. We ordered chirashi, premium seafood platter, trash gyoza, salmon/yellowfin tuna/hamachi temaki on Social Hour menu (5-6pm) and Hamachi Kama, Isaan Hamachi, Shima aji sashimi on main menu to share between 2 of us. My son got his own Crispy Salmon Rice Bowl and Trash Gyoza. I haven't been back to iNDO in ages, and I liked their chirashi bowl and seafood laska very much back then, so it was awesome to see chirashi on the social hour menu. Bold Asian flavors infused into well-balanced plated that accentuate the fresh, high-quality fish! Environment: This restaurant is simplistic and modern; completely blacked out with accents throughout. It's dim lighting that makes for an intimate experience on a date or small group, but such that you can still appreciate the vibrant dishes in front of you and the company you're sharing the time with. The music was just right as well. This was our 3rd experience here and it was just as special to be there. We opted for a bar seat this time to change up from sitting on the patio and in the normal dining room the other 2 experiences. The bar may have just been our favorite seat of the 3 (indoor seating a close second)! The servers are very, very knowledgeable about the menu and were able to compare and contrast their dishes objectively. They also supported the order-as-you-go mentality so we can create our dining experience as we feel the night take us. Food/Drink: We started our experience with 2 drinks: the Bulgae Bite and the Curryosity. We already had high expectations since we've enjoyed their drinks in the past, and these surpassed them. The Curryosity is more on the sweeter side, while the Bulgae was more earthy and herby. Highly recommend the Bulgae!! The price point for these are phenomenal but taste like they should be worth a lot more! Next came the Gyoza, which is an indo staple that you must try. It's fresh, soft, and prepared perfectly with a crunchy cornstarch tuile on top making for perfect bites. We had 2 hand rolls (side note-- we miss the nigiri!!!): Hamachi Jalapeño and Zuke Sake. These hand rolls were presented in a unique little holder which showed off the fish. The rolls themselves accentuated the flavors of the fish perfectly. Melt in your mouth fish supported by a bit of crunch, acidity from the marinades, and perfectly cooked rice. We recommend the Hamachi! We next moved to the Isaan Hamachi, another indo signature, which presented the yellowtail in a vibrant orange broth that not only gave an appealing color contrast, but an extremely well balanced bite. The sweetness of the fish with the intense citrus of kosho and associated garnishes proved to us why this dish is one of indo's signatures. We're certain the other sashimi dishes provide the same bold flavors to highlight each fish. We finished with another appetizer, the Japanese Eggplant. Another very balanced dish with the thai chili spiced eggplant cooled with the yogurt labne. Our only complaint with this is that the eggplant was slightly over cooked, yet had a crisp skin around the edge that provided a subtle crunch. Also, the dish was a tad on the oily side, but is made up for with the labne. The labne felt like it could have used an herb- maybe infusing the thai basil into it? Rating: 4.9/5, this is one of the best places to eat in STL. The next steps for them (and for us to try) would be to see how imaginative they can become with new flavors and testing limits and ingredients that don't normally go together. We're sad they no longer serve Nigiri sushi, but their sister restaurant, Sado, seems to be opening soon which will feature Nigiri options-- can't say we're not excited to try it!! One thing we really appreciated-- when we were leaving, our server said "see you again soon," rather than "thanks for coming in" like at most other places. Like its sister restaurant Sado, Indo is pushing boundaries with inventive, beautifully executed food. The scallops were divine--perfectly cooked and packed with flavor--while the shrimp toast was a brilliant take on a classic, both crispy and rich in all the right ways. To top it off, the most amazing waitress surprised us with a complimentary scoop of their homemade ice cream at the end of our meal, just so we could experience it on our first visit. Visited Indo based on recommendations from friends. Me and my boyfriend are lovers of sushi and Asian food so we were excited! We made a reservation ahead of time and the restaurant was packed at 7 PM! This restaurant serves small plates and the waitress recommended 3-4 plates for two people. The plates came out one at a time with a short wait time in between each. The issan hamachi was good, can definitely taste the freshness and quality of the fish. The marinade was good, salty and citrusy. Came with 6 pieces. 8/10 Next came the sake yaki. This was a good portion and the salmon was tender and flaky. The sauce was incredibly creamy and flavorful paired with the salmon roe. 10/10 The scallops were highly recommended by our waitress but we were extremely disappointed when the plate came - 2 scallops for $32! Great remove, generous fish portions, but on the smaller side (about 2 bites). 8/10 Overall the meal was good but we left unsatisfied due to the price and small portions. Average food for an above average price. Made us wait 30 minutes to get seated with a reservation. I would avoid wasting your money here.

Hands down my new (to me) favorite restaurant. Every plate we had was great, but the standouts were the crispy tuna sashimi and the chili garlic noodles. I've heard their menu changes, but if you go when those are on there, get them! The shrimp toast appetizer was unique and the flavor was good just a lot going on for me. The prawns in the entree dish were perfectly cooked but I loved the sashimi more and would order another one of those dishes instead (there are only 3 prawns in the entree, so the noodles entree was perfect to have with it though. Cocktails were great (we had the sotol genki tenki) as was service. We'll definitely return! Make sure to get a res as they were completely booked on a Sunday evening since it's not that big of a place. read more

First time here. This place which is Asian fusion food was a bit different from what I'm use to dining in California. This restaurant has won many food awards and food recommendations. We ordered an eggplant dish that was very delicious. It's the only pic I took. I ordered the crab fried rice and the serving was very small for $28.00. I had a wonderful experience for my first time at Indo, located on Tower Grove Ave. south of the Grove. We ordered plates to share including the gyoza, garlic noodles, isaan hamachi and palm sugar ribs. Everything was delicious and I especially loved the isaan hamachi! We each ordered our own handrolls. I got the avocado and the benitoro, which was seared salmon. It's a really lovely space and the staff is attentive and helpful. They currently are doing an automatic 20% to each bill and they do need to update the stands for the handrolls. They are wooden and obviously used often, so chipped and dated. Overall, a lovely experience for a midweek dinner. read more

I decided to treat myself to indo today to celebrate an accomplishment. I remember getting the shrimp toast from the last time I came here and knew that I needed to get it again. It was everything I dreamed of and more!!! I totally could have eaten another one! I tried their chef selected hand rolls today which come with 3 or 5 hand rolls. They were unique and well crafted. Each hand roll included sushi rice, raw fish, and a specific touch (puffed rice, etc). I also got the Grapefruit Girlfriend cocktail which was a grapefruit forward cocktail with gin and tequila. My second experience here was just as good as the first one and I will definitely be coming back when I want to fulfill my shrimp toast craving again!! read more
