I had a great time. I've been before but this time I sat at the sushi bar. The service was great but I'd probably skip sitting there next time. I was overstimulated and food was coming at me at all directions. Nevertheless, great time and amazing place
Sado was one of my favorite meals while I was in St. Louis. I made a reservation and sat at the sushi bar, which was a fun experience since I got to watch the chefs prepare all of the sushi right in front of me. The service was excellent. My server took the time to explain the menu, answered all of my questions, and gave some great recommendations. I was in the mood for salmon, so I ordered the sake, sake toro, and benitoro nigiri along with the shibo maki. The salmon was fresh, buttery, and each piece was a good size. Everything was simple but really well done. I only tried the sushi this time, but the hot and cold tasting menus looked really tempting. If I'm ever back in St. Louis, that's definitely what I want to order next. If you're looking for a nicer sushi spot, I'd definitely recommend checking out Sado!
What an amazing dinner experience we had at Sado. I don't think my husband and I were ready at all for the ambiance. The hostess was able to get us seated at a table as walk-ins, even tho we would have been fine to sit at the bar. Our server was amazing but the whole team really worked together in getting our drinks and plates out. We knew we were going to have good dinner, but it was amazing especially for my husband's birthday! Here's what we got: Pork steam bun Mushroom steam bun Sake Toro Nigri Tempura Maki Hamachi Kama Yaki (yellowtail collarbone) Drinks: Hibiscus blend iced tea Black tea, lemon blend iced tea Do not expect these to be sweet teas, but so subtle and soft. They really complimented our dinner Desserts: Sado Sundae Pandan Creme Caramel Both were worth ordering! I highly recommend, aside from the actual sushi, to order anything from the Yaki menu. Something about a perfectly cooked fish really completed our night. I'm not sure when we will be back, but I hope soon!
You will only leave hungry if you hate fish. We left, uncomfortably full. Comparing Sado to Indo is not apples to apples, which my partner was trying to do. We ordered a few sashimi and we expected them to be a little fancier. That was on us. The server as with Indo, above and beyond nice, I think they are accustomed to a lot of questions. Ours was amazing, she said "we don't fork shame here" I fork shame, but she refused. Good for her! I also ordered a cocktail. I would arrive to Sado just for this cocktail, it had a coconut pillow top, that was reminiscent of a marshmallow. Delightful compliment to my savory dinner. I was very surprised at the size of Sado on the inside, we made a turn into the seating then a second turn deeper into seating. I did not get to check out the bathrooms, which disappointed me, but the ambiance was very dark and romantic, also unexpected, there were several tables of friend groups.
My wife and I celebrated our wedding anniversary at Sado, and it was one of the finest sushi experiences we've ever had. As someone who grew up in Southern California eating excellent sushi, and who has also enjoyed outstanding sushi in San Francisco, Tokyo, Osaka, and Kyoto, I don't hand out praise lightly when it comes to sushi. Sado exceeded every expectation. We chose to sit at the sushi bar and put ourselves entirely in the hands of the chef and our server, allowing them to select our dishes throughout the evening. Every single round was outstanding. Not only was the fish incredibly fresh, but each piece was thoughtfully prepared and beautifully presented. Our waiter explained that the fish is never frozen, which means the menu is influenced by what can be flown in and sourced at the highest quality. That commitment to freshness was evident in every bite. The cocktails were fantastic, the sake flight was expertly curated, and both complemented the meal perfectly. Just as impressive as the food was the service. The staff was knowledgeable, attentive, and genuinely passionate about creating a memorable dining experience. The ambiance struck the perfect balance between upscale and comfortable, making it an ideal setting for a special occasion. Is Sado inexpensive? No. But show me a truly great sushi restaurant that is. It can't be cheap to fly in fish of this quality on a daily basis, and after experiencing the meal firsthand, the value was easy to appreciate. I've had sushi in some of the world's most respected sushi destinations, and Sado belongs in the conversation as a serious sushi restaurant. I highly recommend it, and in my opinion, you simply won't find better sushi in St. Louis.
WOW!!! This place was sooo good and I will be thinking about our meal for a long time. I am a self proclaimed sushi connoisseur and this is the best sushi I've ever had. We had reservations for 5:15 at the sushi and arrived 5 minutes early, but they wouldn't seat us until 5:15 on the dot which I thought was odd. Next time we'll be sure to get there right on time! Nonetheless, our experience was incredible. Our waitress was really nice and explained the menu to us for our first time in and gave us good recommendations. From our cocktails to the sushi and dessert, everything was extremely good and presentation was beautiful. I can't wait to come back!!
I went for the Tuesday night vegetarian tasting menu and it was outstanding. The best meal I've had in all time. All the dishes were unique and delicious! Everything was very filling and the staff is super friendly and seemed excited about their food. Great ambiance sitting at the sushi bar getting to watch the action. Can't wait to go back.
Sado is my absolute favorite restaurant in St. Louis! The atmosphere is warm and elevated without feeling too formal, and the attention to detail in both service and presentation really stands out. It's the kind of place you want to bring people because you know they'll leave impressed. The issan hamachi was a standout from the moment it hit the table--fresh, buttery, and incredibly well-balanced. The fried rice is another must-order, the presentation is beautiful and tastes so good I wanted to order another! The sushi in general just keeps proving why Sado deserves a spot on my best dishes list. Everything we tried felt intentional and full of flavor, making it easy to see why this place stays at the top of my rotation.
I can sit up here and go on and on about how good the food it. How the thought of that little bowl of scrumptious velvety broth still makes me smile. How I only sit at the sushi bar because listening to the sushi chefs talk about their favorite and why I should try something new is one of my favorite parts. Or how we always get the same waiter and he's not just pleasant but you can tell he loves coming to work so it makes the experience better. Or I can say, do yourself a favor and treat yourself to one of the best meals you ever have in a really swank and sexy atmosphere.
The food is extraordinary. A lot of thought was put into the food and the concept. It's Japanese inspired in very unique. We enjoyed everything that we ordered. Everything on the menu is meant to be shared and it comes out as it's finished in the kitchen therefore things come to your table typically one dish at a time. It's quite expensive but very well worth it. My only issue was the room temperature. It was very cold in the dining room. So dress warm!
In my nearly decade living here I've yet to see a place that does sushi better than Sado. Like, to the point where I wouldn't bring someone who doesn't appreciate real sushi and isn't at least a little bit open minded with trying new things. You're definitely going to pay for the quality though. Restaurant is dark inside but not egregiously so, waiters have always been very polite and on top of it. It's a go-to special occasion place for us!
This was our first time at Sado, and by the yelp reviews I knew it was going to be great quality but I wasn't aware of how upscale the place would look. We were anxious that we would not get in since we were dressed VERY casual (sweat pants & gym shorts) -- we trepidatiously went up the host ELI and asked about the dress code. He greeted us with a warm smile and funnily replied "as long as you're dressed we're happy to serve you!" Haha! That put us right at ease and we were excited we would get to try the food! So I'd like to apologize because half these images are not even the full plate. We were so engrossed the experience & delicious food, many times the camera did NOT eat first, lol. Food was 10/10 High quality fresh fish Beautiful. exciting and balanced flavors Service was 10/10 We sat at the bar - Stephen & Evelyn were wonderful and very knowledgeable. We felt taken care of for sure. I've never had a dirty martini before-- I'm SO glad this was my first experience. A MUST try if you like dirty, savory martinis / cocktails. I fear they have ruined all other dirty martinis for me! Can't wait to go again! Sado is such a vibe! The ambience is beautiful modern, cozy, and just the right mix of classy and chill. The drinks were spot-on (definitely recommend trying one of their cocktails), and the food was amazing. Everything tasted super fresh and well balanced. You can tell the chefs really care about the details. It's one of those places where every bite makes you stop and say "wow." Service was friendly and on point too. Perfect spot for date night, girls' night, or honestly any excuse to treat yourself. Definitely adding this one to my STL favorites list!

Phenomenal sushi dining experience at the Hill. I sat at the sushi bar, enjoying the show crafting the delightful meal in front of me. I enjoyed everything tonight from chawanmashi to all the sushi pieces. Service is good and ambiance is top-notched. We were taken care of by Catie and had a great experience! Food was spectacular. It was hard to be disappointed, each bite was bursting with flavor and the fish would melt in your mouth! Definitely order the dirty martini, as it serves as a great palette cleanser in between courses. My boyfriend's biggest reactions were to the: Isaan hamachi, madai nigiri, masu nigiri, and the bluefin akami! Save this spot for special occasions, it's worth the price. read more

Amazing sushi dinner at Sado! Every dish from the appetizers, entrees, sushi, and desserts were thoughtfully crafted and delicious. We went to Sado for our anniversary dinner - it was definitely a special occasion spot with beautiful ambiance and top-notch presentation. The space feels upscale but still comfortable, and the service was excellent; attentive without being overbearing. The food was fresh, flavorful, and thoughtfully plated. That said, our total was over $200 for two, and while everything was high quality, I'm not sure it fully justified the price. Still, it's worth experiencing once for sushi lovers who want something elevated and refined. Isaan Hamachi (5/5): My absolute favorite of the night - tangy, flavorful, and perfectly balanced. Hamachi Crunch Maki (5/5): Delicious combination of texture and flavor, my favorite roll. Akamai Maki (4/5): Tangy, delicious, simple. Smaller portion though. Masu (Trout) Sashimi - (4/5): Buttery and super fresh, one of the best pieces. Hamachi Sashimi - (4/5): Clean flavor and excellent quality. Overall, Sado is great for a splurge or special night out - just expect fine-dining prices to match the experience. read more
I have heard so many great things about Sado, so this was a highly anticipated meal for me. We went big and got some of the priciest dishes on the menu, including the wagyu hot rock and bluefin toro sashimi. The wagyu was perfectly marbled and was the most tender meat I've had (completely melts in your mouth) but I personally like slightly more chew. The hot rock also cools pretty fast, so you have to eat it relatively quickly (makes it harder to savor each bite). The bluefin toro sashimi was also fatty in texture but surprisingly didn't have much flavor. The other ingredients included in the bowl didn't really fit well in my opinion either. But the star of the meal (and what I would focus on getting more of next time) was the nigiri. Of the nigiri I ordered, I liked the madai and benitoro the most. The rice was perfectly seasoned, and the fish was so flavorful. I particularly loved the seared flavor of the benitoro - so smoky and tender! Service was good, and the environment was a little loud for personal conversation. It was a pricy meal so it's definitely a special occasion type of meal. read more

We made a dinner reservation here because our favorite waitress, Elise, started working here a while ago and we haven't been to visit her. Request to be seated in her section if you want a night of warmth, attention, and culinary knowledge. Definitely need a reservation. The restaurant was full but not overwhelming. The layout was broken down in to several smaller rooms so it still felt intimate with a low noise level. We showed up early and enjoyed unique expertly crafted cocktails. I had a dirty martini with chili oil that has become my new favorite drink! Incredibly unique menu. We are huge sushi fans but the variety in the Sado menu is immense and it screams "be brave! Eat something besides salmon rolls!" The executive chef, Nick Bognar, describes the menu as Japanese Thai fusion. So we got brave! We went with the Omakase tasting which allowed our fabulous evening guide Elise to lead the event. This was a fun option that put so many menu options on our table I might not have otherwise tasted. Come with an empty belly and an open mind. You'll not be disappointed! read more
This may be my very favorite restaurant in St. Louis. The food is just incredible. Also, great service and great drinks. One of my favorite ways to experience it is either to go during social hour (currently Wednesdays, and Thursdays from 5 to 6 PM) and order everything on the menu or you can do the Sado favorites for $120 for two people during social hour and get to try multiple things from the main menu. I've also gone where you can say that you want to spend say $75 per person and then they will just bring you a variety of things to try. This is definitely a place where you should share with others versus getting your own food so you can try all the deliciousness. read more
Phenomenal food and incredible service! My husband brought me to Sado for my birthday dinner and it was exceptional! The interior is low lighting with some cool art and overall is very vibey (great for a date night!). Our server, Kyan, was very attentive and asked for our feedback on all the dishes we ordered - he relays it all back to the chef and is appreciative of any feedback. It was all 12/10 for us, so I don't know if we were too helpful! We ordered a combination of cocktails, appetizers, nigiri, and rolls. All of them were incredibly delicious! I genuinely can't wait to come back and have more of their menu! They also gave us a complimentary dessert with a candle for my birthday, so kind! read more

SADO never fails! Hands-down the BEST restaurant in St. Louis, and easily one of the best Happy Hours in the city. These pics are only round one... I was too happy to even capture round two or the drinks. Every flavor hits, every roll is fresh, and truly everything on the menu is fire. Happy Hour, the Tuesday 11-course veggie menu, regular fare, cocktails -- SADO is THAT girl. read more

What a fabulous gem hidden in Saint Louis. Everything here is delightful--service, ambiance and the cuisine. There is so much creativity in both the cocktails and menu. The sushi was perfectly fresh. We are from LA and thought we had been transplanted with how modern and sexy the restaurant was. They have great flexibility with their omakase options which makes it fun to try new things and let the chefs lead you. Any chance we are back in town this one's on the list. read more
I'm going to kick this off with please know the establishment gets very loud when busy. The acoustics are not great and anyone with hearing sensitivities should simply be aware. Ok, now that my PSA is said you must go. I had no idea that they had option to do a tasting menu. We simply gave our bartender James, a budget and he planned everything from there. It was immaculate. We wanted to try it all and he gave us the full experience with an 11 course experience. I'm not going to break it all down, but the stars of the show were: - miso ginger salad - it is one of the best salads I've found in a long time, plenty of veggies and amazing flavor and textures across the board. - Isaan Hamachi - I would fight someone for the coconut sauce in this. It was so good I nearly cried. - Japanese Pumpkin - this is one of my staples at Sado and a regular choice for me if you're looking for a vegetarian dish or non-fish item. We tried 8 types of nigiri total, they were all great but some standouts included: - scallop - salmon with Thai basil - tuna - a vegetarian eggplant option Dessert is worth it, the couple next to us said they were regulars and didn't even know they had dessert which seems like a massive missed opportunity on their part! I believe they have an in house pastry chef and the sticky toffy pudding was so dang good but my personal favorite was the pistachio ice cream. Sado wins again. I loved my first time so much, that I had to come back several weeks later. We came here for a galentines get together and it was a perfect celebration of a love for good food. The last time I came I ubered, and this time I drove. Parking can be hard to find since it's street parking- I recommend giving yourself some time before your reservation to find a spot. I arrived early and sat at the bar. I ordered a glass of wine and was seated quickly after. We put our order in (lots of different types of food to share- the only way to do it) and loved everything we got! Gyoza, 3 rolls, steamed bun, rolls, sashimi, nigiri- all had us wanting more. Every single thing we had was delicious. Service was fantastic. Our server was super knowledgeable and helpful when trying to decide on food. A good amount of tables without feeling crammed. It just has a very intimate feel inside. We all split everything but the nigiri, which is the way to go. Cannot wait to come back and get more! read more
Finally got to check out Sado on the Hill! Our experience was wonderful- from the cozy yet appealing atmosphere to the staff! We did not make reservations (recommended) but were able to get seated at the bar after a short wait. The bartender took his time to thoroughly explain the menu and all of the offerings and give us plenty of suggestions. The lychee martini was strong and made with sake I will definitely be back for the juicy fried Brussels and Vegetable Roll! we also enjoyed a nice cold brew martini at the end. Free street parking outside. Definitely recommend coming here for date night! read more

Not to be dramatic, but this may just be the worst sushi I've ever had in my life and perhaps the worst restaurant that I've tried in St. Louis. We've visited Indo, the sister restaurant of Sado previously, so we came with high expectations, especially given the promising menu with nigiri and sashimi options that many sushi places in St. Louis does not offer. We ordered the Isaan Hamachi and Chawanmushi as our appetizers and ordered over 8 kinds of nigiri, including nicer cuts such as Bluefin Otoro and Sake Toro. The appetizers were great, fish cuts were all very fresh and had a great texture and mouthfeel. However, it was grossly overshadowed by the seasoning and rice. The nigiri rice was incredibly salty and acidic, with an astringent taste of vinegar and lime zest, which took away from the taste of the fresh fish. The rice was gloopy, starchy, and did not have the al dente bite that sushi rice typically has. There were also huge salt chunks in the rice, which made it an even worse experience. It honestly tasted closer to a tequila shot than sushi. When we asked the waiter if this was intentional, he confirmed that they preferred to "heavily season" their rice. Understanding that the nigiri wasn't to our liking, they were accommodating and offered to make our remaining pieces of nigiri with their maki rice instead. The maki rice was a slight improvement as it was less salty and acidic, but the texture of the rice remained the same--gluey and wet. All told, Sado was quite the disappointment, given that how much potential they had. It's astonishing how they could mess up the most foundational aspect of sushi. Perhaps I might be harsh, but for a higher end establishment where we spent over $200 for two people, I really did expect more. Between grocery store sushi and Sado, I'll be picking the former. Despite this negative experience, I do want to give a shoutout to the staff who were accommodating, the cleanliness of the restaurant, and the beautiful decor. Try Sado at your own risk. read more

One of my favorite restaurants in the city. Ambiance is great in the restaurant, service is amazing, sushi is the best you can get in STL. Love the tuna crudo so much! read more
