The sushi bar and ordering area

First time here. I definitely enjoyed the sushi roll I ordered. Even in the to go box everything was arranged nicely for presentation. I got there when they first opened so they were not busy at all. The service was prompt. Upon entry into the restaurant, it's a very subdued place with music that wasn't too loud. I enjoyed my sushi and would be back again!

The restaurant was not busy at all when I arrived on a weekday afternoon. The place was dimly lit with a cool casual vibe on the inside and had a nice patio area for outdoor dining. The service was good and the wait time for the food was not that long. 1. Miso Soup: not too salty, warm, and very comforting despite the hot summer weather 2. Gyoza: good for an appetizer but not really anything that I have not tried before 3. Mochi Chirashi Bowl: presentation was clean with the sashimi assortment wrapped around a rice mound; the ratio of sashimi and rice surprisingly worked out even though I felt that there were more rice served in the dish Overall, Cafe Mochi is a nice spot to have a meal and chat with a friend. The food is pretty standard and not anything new that I have not seen or tried before.

Food here is great. I get the volcano roll every time. Server is also always nice and food arrives quickly. I love the inside-- it's calm and comfortable. Highly recommend

One of my favorite spots to drop in for some sushi in tower grove area. Rolls are always solid and they have a good variety. Why I am really here though is the fried rice! Cafe Mochi is my all time go to spot for some take out fried rice in the STL. Great portion for a good price and the taste is next level. Not really a place I go to sit in just because of parking but when I have service has always been good.

Cafe Mochi is a vibrant sushi restaurant on South Grand in St. Louis, known for catering to a wide spectrum of sushi enthusiasts, from novices to experts. The interior walls are adorned in shades of pink and purple, creating a unique vibe. As we indulged in their sushi, the 2000s good tunes are taking over. I tried the lemon drop roll with salmon, crab, cream cheese avocado, lemon zest, trout roe & topped with white fish, honey wasabi mayo, scallions, tempura crumbs and a crab stick. Protip: add jalapeño for some spice. Peep my yelp chopsticks!

Been here a few times & my favorite is the Hawaiian! It's like a dessert in a roll. Seriously. There's a dip that taste like fruit dip with a pineapple topping. Good service. My waiter was nervous about my cough so he brought me a lemon tea to help soothe & I think it did actually help! I love that you can choose inside or patio seating. Would definitely be awesome for patio szn. Try out Cafe Mochi on S. Grand!

Great sushi in the heart of St. Louis city. We ate here on a Sunday evening and got seated right away. We were able to sit out on the patio in beautiful fall weather. The team was quickly attentive to us got our drinks and order right away. I will say the team did forget to put in our crab rangoons which were a miss that would normally let me leave 3 stars. I still give this 4 stars because the staff recognized it and offered to place it quickly but we already had more than enough sushi and removed it from our bill. Sushi at Cafe mochi is always consistent and delicious! This isnt going to be a high end romantic dinner but is going to be top great quality and definitely better than some of the standard sushi places especially in the midwest. Always get the Volcano roll :) We'll definitely be back!

Used to live on south grand and this place was my go to sushi place. They have the cutest location even tho the parking situation was ideal and I was always afraid that someone will give me a ticket. They have many items on the menu their pho noodle was surprisingly not bad, the sushi was definitely fresh and tasty! Will come back again if I'm in the area!!!

We were in town for vacation and wanted a really good sushi spot. This was one of the top recommendations we got from the locals. We went on a Sunday afternoon, and there was a private party going on, but we gladly sat outside because it was absolutely the perfect time of day. We were given our drinks and some time to look at the menu. There wasn't as much of a selection as I wanted, but husband and I both found a roll we wanted to try, plus we always get a Philly anywhere we go. I got the Fuji, and my husband got the Godzilla. The rolls were okay. I thought my roll was mostly going to be raw, but it was hot, like it had been cooked. My husband did get a cooked roll, and it was good. The Philly was perfect. We were checked on multiple times, and overall, it was a good experience, I just wish the sushi would have been a little better.

In the mood for sushi and teriyaki, we decided to give this place a shot while in town visiting. We tried the Mochi Rangoons, Philly Roll, Unakyu Roll and the Chicken Teriyaki Dinner (chicken teriyaki, salad, rice, veggies). The rolls were fine, nothing special but they satisfied my craving. The chicken teriyaki wasn't a huge portion but was decent. The salad dressing was pretty solid. Overall nothing really stood out but if you're in the mood for sushi, it will do!

Freaking awesome! This place I found while visiting in the area and man they did not disappoint. The service was nice the food was excellent and affordable. The sushi rolls are made with love and the chefs take their time to prepare. Definitely a must try when in the area.

I was looking for a place for lunch this Saturday and a local foodie recommended Cafe Mochi . Suddenly, I was craving sushi. The parking around this place is lacking but I was able to secure a spot not too far away and this is one of my favorite parts of St Louis so I wasn't too upset. We had a little wait time but nothing too bad. I did not realize that this place had a whole other section in the back. Our waiter was nice enough. Where we were sitting they did not have the lights on, and I'm assuming this is because there's a lot of sunlight that comes in so that's why you see Shadows on the pictures. My eyes were way bigger than my stomach and I ordered too much food. But it was all delicious. The rice is enough to share with a friend and the sushi rolls were a decent size. Will definitely be back!

One of my favorite spots over the years!! Amazing staff, cute spot, and the best crab Rangoon! I love how proportionate the filling to wonton ration is. I highly recommend the coconut curry pho, the plum wine, pink giesha (like a pink drink from Starbucks but a cocktail), and the mochi Rangoon!!

Ask the Community - Cafe Mochi

Is this spot All you can eat?

No, this is not an all you can eat spot. I recommend you try it out, they have some of the best sushi rolls for the price & I've never left disappointed.

Do the lunch discount sets (Geisha, Sumo, etc) include the specialty rolls and house rolls?

If I remember right, the happy hour specials only apply to a select list and does not include the the house or specialty rolls.

What time do they have happy hour?

Cafe Mochi happy hours : Tuesday - Thursday 4:30-6:30

Ours was amazing, she said "we don't fork shame here" I fork shame, but she refused. Good for her! I also ordered a cocktail. I would arrive to Sado just for this cocktail, it had a coconut pillow top, that was reminiscent of a marshmallow. Delightful compliment to my savory dinner. I was very surprised at the size of Sado on the inside, we made a turn into the seating then a second turn deeper into seating. I did not get to check out the bathrooms, which disappointed me, but the ambiance was very dark and romantic, also unexpected, there were several tables of friend groups.

In a menu of stand out dishes, I think the sashimi is at the very top. The service was wonderful- friendly, knowledgeable, attentive but not too attentive. Gratuity seemed to be included, but we tipped on top of that because the included gratuity was not nearly enough for service that good. Now it is noisy. That is what I did not like, but I have noise challenges. We asked if we could sit up front near the bar. They kindly accommodated us. It was late on a Thursday and the restaurant was full. Definitely make a reservation. There is an adjacent parking lot, but parking fills up quickly. It is evident why the owner has been a James Beard finalist - this is not your average great food. This is more. It is creativity and vibrancy. I almost forgot - price. It is surprisingly reasonable. The dishes are shareable and almost tapas style. 2-3 person is a good amount. Most dishes run $20-30 at this point in time (June 2026). We had really great mocktails which were in the $10 range.

We were looking for sake, and they had a decent selection of both wine and sake, but nothing particularly exciting. We decided to try the Hana white peach sake, which was a pleasant surprise. The food menus were in a state of disrepair, with staples holding them together. We started with some appetizers, including pork gyoza, crab rangoon, and spicy edamame. The pork gyoza was delicious, but the crab rangoon was quite crunchy and flakey with not much flavor. The spicy edamame tasted like it had been soaked in Franks' Hot sauce or Sriracha sauce, which I wasn't a fan of. I wish I had ordered them regular instead. For sushi, I opted for a shrimp tempura roll and a rainbow roll, both of which satisfied my craving.
