The food YES. So yummy in my tummy, I am a big sushi lady!!! The inside was very nice, and the service was good too! The waiter was kind and everyone checked on us. We had lots of sushi! I want tO try the hotpot soon, as I have not had it before/ maybe next time!!!!! I will go back and get some. GRATE place for a date!!! Kind of expensive but for a special night I'd go! Also had some good Saki hot and and cold, the cold one was coconut flavors. Pretty good and different! You should try it

ordered through Uber eats 4/3/26. no issues with speed/delivery etc....but this is the size of sushi you get - quarters and my thumb for size reference. I understand the current administration has made everything economically more difficult...but, this is insane....will make some pasta for dessert i guess, and won't be going back there, sadly.

Kampai is one of my favorite sushi places in the city. My favorite role is the Sunset roll, but everything I've had from a sushi standpoint has been great. Howver, the rest of the food there is not as high quality. We've tried a few things and they are just OK. So I would definitely stick to the sushi when going. They have good service and the servers are very nice. There is a limited drink menu and they do not take online reservations, but they will take reservations if you call.

I visited Kampala Sushi bar for dinner one day. This restaurant offers an assortment of sushi, warm entrees, and appetizers. They also have a fully stocked bar which includes domestic and non domestic beers, wines, and liquors. I ordered the shrimp tempura to start and it was hot and crispy! I also ordered the Yaki Udon which came with miso soup and a starter salad. The miso soup was warm and yummy. The Yaki Udon was a little sweet for my pallet but still good. Finally the sushi was good- I got an assortment of sushi with eel, shrimp, and salmon. The overall atmosphere was nice and staff were friendly. Parking is street parking but there are some garages around the neighborhood within walking distance of this restaurant. They do offer a Omakase (let the chef cook for you) at a fixed price which is nice. I may try that next time!

all staff member were super sweet and smiley! my boyfriend and i got the sake flight and the lycee drink. i wouldn't recommend the sake flight unless you're familiar with sake and or getting food to go with it. (it's like shots of rubbing alcohol) cute vibes and very clean! would recommend

Spicy Tuna Roll, Sunrise Roll (I think this is the name) Dynamite Roll, Salmon Nigiri, and Yellowtail Nigiri.

I've been here twice now and will be back soon! The food is excellent at a very reasonable price. If you go please order the fried rice it's the best I've ever had at a sushi restaurant. The atmosphere and location are awesome and the sushi is insane! I rarely write reviews but I've been sitting thinking about how amazing this meal was and had to share. This place is a must try!

The service and ambiance was excellent and it got us excited to try this place. We're new to St. Louis from California and dying to find "our" new sushi spot near us in the CWE. The sushi was okay -- it could have been fresher with more taste. The prices are also a bit high. I would come back for a special occasion only and not a casual dinner. I would be willing to try new dishes again.

One of my favorite neighborhood spots! Great service and amazing sushi. Have not found a roll we haven't liked.

Sushi was fresh and delicious. We got the crazy roll, tornado roll, sunset roll, toro nigiri and salmon nigiri. Different textures and flavors really complemented each other in each roll. We also got chocolate lava cake for dessert which was warm, gooey, rich and amazing. Service was 10/10. Staff was nice, helpful and let us stay a bit past closing to finish up our food and drinks! Ambiance was calm and cozy. They dim the lights a bit at night and play calming music. I would definitely come back and get the same order plus a few more things!

Kampai has become my go-to sushi spot in CWE thanks to its consistently efficient service and reliable quality of rolls. The staff is really sweet and the food comes out quite quickly. There's plenty of seating available, so even though it gets pretty filled, I've never experienced a wait. The space is clean, warm, and comfortable. It's nice for a casual meal or even for a slightly more intimate date. I've tried the uni nigiri, which I honestly didn't love because it tasted like the uni had been soaked in sake. Their spicy tuna rolls were also a miss on me (maybe I had them on a bad day). However, the rolls that keep me coming back are the West Pine Roll and the Joy Roll. They're simple and similar in flavor, but well-done seared salmon rolls overall. Another honorable mention is the OMG Roll, which is really flavorful and has great presentation. Their takoyaki is also solid. I also really appreciate that they give you the option of complimentary miso soup or salad while you wait. The miso soup's got great umami with its inclusion of pieces of mushroom in it. Is it sushi that is going to blow your mind? No, but it's a great spot to come back to every time for consistently decent food and nice service.

Miso soup, edamame, and the teriyaki chicken appetizer. We got 3 rolls and they were really good, but I didn't get any pictures.

The food was good, service was friendly, and it was a nice date nice vibe. Very clean!

Kampai Sushi Bar is a sushi restaurant that offers a wide menu from nigri, noodle soups to sushi rolls. It is at a central location at Central West End. Street parking is plentiful. Service is attentive and the sitting space is comfortable. I only ordered sushi rolls at my visit. I feel the rolls are below average for mine, apart from the long wait time. The udon noodles dish my friend ordered looks so much better. Will I come back again? Perhaps not for the sushi, but for the convenient location.

Dimmed lights; contemporary piano music in the background; and neatly folded napkins placed upright on each plate. I came in with my group of 5 on a Thursday evening, and we were seated immediately. Service was great, always checking if we needed anything! We decided to share a 15-piece sashimi combo, two rolls, and two bowls of udon. A little bit of everything! We ended up all getting complimentary miso soup and salad that really hit the spot. The only downside is the price. However, the fish was fresh, and flavor did not disappoint. There might be better value and fare for sushi elsewhere, but this restaurant is perfect for a fancier get-together or date night!

Poor quality food. Don't order Ramen. Terrible. The chef needs to go get some training from somewhere.

The noodles are perfectly cooked, the toppings are fresh, and the portions are generous without feeling overdone. It's a small, cozy restaurant, so expect a wait during peak hours -- but trust me, it's worth it. The space feels intimate and authentic, which honestly adds to the charm. When we pulled up, there was a line but it moved quicker than we thought. Once we got inside, we were both surprised at how small it was. While I've yet to go to Japan, it def gives off the vibe strictly from ambiance and the decor. It's small but intimate and offers seats at the "bar", as well as communal seating. We didn't get a choice and were sat at the bar. Ordering is done through the QR code and water is offered self-serve. We split an order of the appetizers: house cucumbers and karaage. I'm not a huge cucumber fan but I tried it. I preferred the one with miso as I found it to be more subtle in taste. The chicken was average and didn't wow me. We each got the chicken shoyu with no pork, no scallions and an extra egg. It felt like it took a long time to get our food. We were both surprised once we got it as we were expecting actual chicken pieces but after rereading the menu description, it was chicken oil. He was a bit disappointed as both our dishes were covered in scallions. I suggested we not send it back since it took quite a while to get our food and they were close to closing. Nevertheless, I found the broth to be tasty and full of flavor despite there being no meat. Overall, it was a solid first visit.

The spider roll was unlike anything I've ever encountered--in a bad way. The soft shell crab was mushy, grainy, and very off-putting. None of the fish seemed to be cut properly. The red tuna placed on top of one roll was sliced so poorly it wouldn't even stay on the roll. The white tuna nigiri (normally my favorite) had tough sinew running through it, making it nearly impossible to chew or swallow. I have never had to spit out sushi before, but I did tonight. The eel nigiri was also poorly prepared and wouldn't hold together--I was shocked it was served in that condition. After a $90 dinner, I've definitely learned my lesson. I hope this was just an off night, but unfortunately I won't be returning.
