This was my first time at Sushi Ai and the all-you-can-eat sushi is a great deal! They do charge for leftover rice/sushi, so plan accordingly and don't over-order. I came with a group of friends and we were seated pretty quickly. This is a slightly newer location in Clayton and I heard it's bigger than the older location. Favorite things I tried: Yaki Ika (grilled squid appetizer), seaweed salad sushi, tofu skin sushi, Volcano roll, green dragon roll, and Crazy Spicy crab Roll (it was not that spicy). I only ended up ordering 3 rolls and a few 1-piece sushis because I was so stuffed! You do have to wait awhile after ordering sushi for them to prepare the rolls, so order earlier if you know you want to try other rolls. There's a 2-hour limit after you're seated. And don't forget the deep-fried Oreos--my friend ate 8 of them because they were so good!! I tried the sugar biscuit too and it reminded me of a dense beignet. read more

The menu was big but they only gave us one menu on top of the all you can eat sushi menus that are always on the table but we didn't want the all you can eat. We both ordered two rolls each. I got a California roll and the vegetable roll. The veggie roll was the highlight. It was a nice balance of savory and sweet from the sweet potato. They always give a little plate with ginger and wasabi and a spit to pour out soy sauce. It got pretty busy by the time we left and they ask you don't take a table for longer than two hours. When we walked up awkwardly and asked for a table the host seemed very annoyed at us for being confused even though the sign says "please wait to be seated" and nobody said anything to us. When we were ready to leave, our server hadn't returned so we went up and asked to pay for our food and the hosts and servers at the front made faces at each other and seemed very annoyed. The restaurant had about three tables in there so they weren't very busy. We tipped well and were genuinely very nice so not sure what the deal was. Will not be going back. read more

This is my favorite sushi restaurant in St Louis. They have 4 locations. I even have a VIP card for Sushi Ai that gives me a discount off my total bill. I purchased this card from Sushi Ai about 8 years ago, so it's more than paid for itself. They also have All You Can Eat menus, which I always utilize! I would have given them 5 stars but some of our dishes were not clean, which was odd, the years we have gone to the Sushi Ai chain, this has never happened. Maybe they had a new employee working in the kitchen. This is a brand new location in Clayton, they literally moved from the muddle of the block to the corner location, which is much larger than the old, with windows all the way around the building so lots of natural light. The sushi itself was excellent as usual, very fresh and the rice was perfect. The edamame is always flash boiled to perfection and lightly salted with sea salt (I believe). Our server was very kind, albeit a little embarrassed by the cups and wasabi/ginger containers that were not cleaned well. He was so nice that I tipped him 30%. read more

My boyfriend and I stopped in here a few days ago to check out the new location, and it was a great experience! The new place looks good! Our waiter was friendly and stayed on top of our food and drinks throughout the meal. We went with the $16.99 All-You-Can-Eat option for lunch. It runs from the time they open until 3pm (double-check the ending time). The sushi was fantastic and tasted very fresh! I always love the appetizer options too. The crab rangoon is always delicious! Make sure to try the fried Oreos for dessert too! I've been to a few different locations here in the St. Louis region, and the Clayton location is definitely my favorite. GUYS. Don't want to gatekeep and am so proud bc I love this location compared to others I've been to. THEY'VE MOVED LOCATIONS!! Literally further down the sidewalk where old location used to be across from Smoothie King, AQ Nail Spa, and KINK Hair. I always thought the space at Clayton location was smaller than their potential. Every time I've gone especially during peak hours such as dinner there would be people waiting outside waiting for tables because there is such limited seating, every table would be full, etc. Today, my friend and I were so so pleasantly surprised when we saw the new location. I was internally jumping for joy. I have attached pictures bc their address is not updated that I know of yet. Our server said they just moved last week and I think it was long overdue! There is AMPLE seating now, decently spread out, and even outdoor seating! Ambience is very nice, sleek, clean, but welcoming. My friend and I said we felt so "bougie" coming in lol. They have updated their menus including the AYCE dinner menu (forgot to snap a pic of the lunch AYCE sorry). I've been coming to Sushi Ai since their old location and I'm really happy with the new spot. It's about four stores down now and the space feels very modern and more upscale. I like that they went with an open design concept. It makes the place feel bigger and cleaner. They have new workers and everyone is super efficient. It still gets very busy, even during a weekday lunch, but if you come closer to 3 pm it definitely dies down. Overall, I've never had any complaints here and the quality has stayed consistent through the move. My only ask is please keep the price point the same. What a beautiful new space! The former space smelled so bad due to the cigar spot next door so we never could eat inside. Now, it's very clean and nice! Service was great. Our server was very attentive. The other staff filling water glasses came around often. I went for the all you can eat (AYCE) sushi. It's a very fair price of 25 dollars. They had tons of different options between rolls and nigiri. The sushi was flavorful and fresh! I was surprised how much I loved the salmon rolls. The server checked frequently for new orders to keep the sushi coming. It's an open concept and it was really cool to see them making all the sushi. With that being said I sat at the bar and it was annoying to have the servers keep having to come right next to you to pick up orders. I would get a table next time. read more

They moved to a new location! It is a block down N Central Ave now (I believe 44 N Central Ave, which is still not reflected in Google Maps). The new space is definitely an upgrade- more seating, modern decor. Same sushi bar set up but now it is more elegant/emphasizes. Sushi AI is my boyfriend and I's guilty pleasure. When we have a craving for sushi and our stomachs being challenged to their limits... We usually come for the UNBEATABLE lunch all you can eat, but tried the dinner deal this time. It's $9 more expensive, but certainly worth it with an extended menu, particularly the grilled squid and chicken (yaki). The nigiri is not my favorite, as sometimes the fish does not taste the most fresh. I enjoyed the rainbow roll and spicy girl roll, and my boyfriend liked the american dream roll and the rock n' roll. While the sushi roll options cannot parallel those of a coastal sushi restaurant, the deal at Sushi AI is truly special, and I consider it a fixture of St. Louis. read more

AVOID AT ALL COSTS! I got food poisoning after eating here and have been throwing up for hours! I know this is the culprit bc nausea and stomach pain started kicking in not long after eating and I had not consumed anything for hours before dining here! And then soon after I got home I began vomiting and it's been going on for three hours so far! And I'll probably be suffering through the night and next day or so as well! I checked their reviews to see if anyone else has experienced this and I happened across another Google review from just THREE months ago where another woman said she began vomiting for hours after eating here! And I'm sure if I looked longer I would have found even more reviews. I've never in my life gotten food poisoning or experienced what I'm experiencing now! There's clearly severe food safety issues occurring here that need to be taken care of ASAP! Edit: after scrolling through more reviews on Google I found another review of someone else who also got food poisoning! So that makes three of us and I'm sure if I scrolled more I'd find more! And who knows how many others also got food poisoning but never left a review! This is NOT a coincidence! The department of public health needs to investigate this place ASAP! Edit 2: I ended up consistently vomiting throughout the night. Owners replied on Google reviews and said they "haven't received any other reports" even though if you just scroll through the lowest reviews on Google at least TWO other people also mention getting food poisoning after eating here. read more

Terrible service. On more than a few occasions have been seated, just to not even get water or any- LITERALLY ANY- interaction from servers. Sat at table at 3 pm on a Sunday for 18 minutes while customers who got there well after us were attended to by MULTIPLE other servers and staff. Second occasion where we had to leave and were never even served food due to not getting checked in on whatsoever after being shown our seats. Couldn't have lower recommendations for a fast food restaurant, let alone a place that is supposed to have convenient dine-in sushi. If I could leave .5 stars I would. read more

More than anything, the affordability and great service from Sushi Ai makes it worth it. AYCE dinner was something around $24 per person and there were plenty of options to order from. It's quite packed despite the ample space, so there may be a wait (it wasn't more than 15 minutes for my group of 5 going out for Sunday dinner). I did the miso soup, house salad, Michigan roll, Boston roll, Jalapeno roll, and Crazy spicy crab roll. All of the rolls were solid (I'd definitely go for the same order again), but I didn't love that the pieces were cut so thick. We did All You Can Eat Sushi for lunch at the Sushi Ai location in Clayton! There's paid street parking available nearby, and usually a wait to get in. We waited about 30-40 mins for a table, but it was well worth the wait! We started off with Miso Soup, Crab Rangoon, and Pork Gyoza - all delicious! We then went straight into enjoying some sushi rolls: I loved the Jalapeno Roll (spicy), Crab Tempura Roll (creamy coconut sauce), and shrimp tempura roll (fresh). We also got fried Rolls: STL & Philly. And the Volcano Roll (spicy). Honestly all were delicious! Our waitress was very nice and asked if we needed anything and was very welcoming to additional orders. It took a while for our orders to come out, so I'd have your next paper ready to go so you don't fill up quickly haha. Also the fried Oreos here are AMAZING! They even make it look like sushi hahah. Had a wonderful dining experience here! We came for all you can eat sushi. The inside was very nicely decorated with Asian decor. It's a bit of a small place but still cute and cozy. It's super easy to order- you just fill out a card with what you want and your server takes it. They had a ton of delicious sides that were included in the AYCE. The lunch menu is smaller than the dinner menu, which has more specialty rolls, but for the price, I think it's very worth it with plenty of options to choose from. We had so much sushi it's hard to remember which rolls were which but here's a breakdown of a few I remember: Snow White roll- this one was a pleasant surprise! It's topped with what I think was a crab/cream cheese mixture but the mixture was sweet. I loved it. Sweet potato roll- I think this one is just sweet potato but there was something crunchy in there for added texture. The choice between the combo deals and unlimited are great and, honestly, the combo deals are often the better deal. The unlimited is fun to take on with friends. Some of the rolls I felt were less fresh, so there were some real standouts. The jalapeño roll and Vegetable Tempura were so good! I find Vegetable Tempura is hit and miss at a lot of places because some don't cook the veggies enough or overcook them. After eating many orders, I can say Sushi AI makes them perfectly every time. For me, the Spicy Tuna Roll was a miss. The texture was extremely off putting. The crispy St. Louis Roll was great though. My partner drinks a lot of water & his glass was never empty, the staff was great about filling it up! There were a good number of other patrons, but the volume of the restaurant never got too loud. The all you can eat sushi & appetizer dinner deal is such a great way to eat well at an affordable price ($23.99).
