My friend told me about Menya Rui and I am so glad that she did! I love traditional Japanese ramen and whenever I have a craving, I go here. Waiting in line is 100% worth it and once you get in, service is so quick to follow what places in Japan are like. I can't wait to try their sister restaurant!

The line was around the corner and worth the wait. I was impressed with how fast the line moved and the fast and friendly service. The ambiance was casual with a community dining setup. The food was good And worth the wait

Every time I come here to eat, I always leave so satisfied -- the quality of food is simply amazing. I'm so glad STL got this Japanese cuisine hammered into their food scene a few years ago. Bonus -- come here on a rainy day and you will leave so happy! The service is good; the seating area is rather small, but there are spaces for those who come solo. Can't wait to try the other ramen spot that's open in the loop by the owner!

I feel like I've been waiting forever to try this place and I finally got the chance last night. My boyfriend suggested we come here and I was hesitant because I figured there'd be a line and we probably wouldn't get in. When we pulled up, there was a line but it moved quicker than we thought. Once we got inside, we were both surprised at how small it was. While I've yet to go to Japan, it def gives off the vibe strictly from ambiance and the decor. It's small but intimate and offers seats at the "bar", as well as communal seating. We didn't get a choice and were sat at the bar. Ordering is done through the QR code and water is offered self-serve. We split an order of the appetizers: house cucumbers and karaage. I'm not a huge cucumber fan but I tried it. I preferred the one with miso as I found it to be more subtle in taste. The chicken was average and didn't wow me. We each got the chicken shoyu with no pork, no scallions and an extra egg. It felt like it took a long time to get our food. We were both surprised once we got it as we were expecting actual chicken pieces but after rereading the menu description, it was chicken oil. He was a bit disappointed as both our dishes were covered in scallions. I suggested we not send it back since it took quite a while to get our food and they were close to closing. Nevertheless, I found the broth to be tasty and full of flavor despite there being no meat. Overall, it was a solid first visit.

This was my first time going to Menya Rui. I went with some friends of mine and I had no idea what to expect. I tried the Chicken Shoyu and the Karaage. Both dishes were very good and the chicken in the Chicken Shoyu literally tasted like bacon. The atmosphere of the restaurant was very traditional and it gave me a sense of Japan cuisine and culture. The service was very pleasant, helpful and friendly. I didn't have a problem ordering through my phone. But the server was very friendly and helpful to take my order. I would definitely recommend this place for some traditional Japanese cuisine and ramen.

Felt like a traditional Japanese ramen bar. It was very small and cozy inside and the wait was worth it. They have a QR code for a digital waitlist so you can keep warm in your car while you wait in the winter. This is absolutely a must-try in STL!

Highly recommend!!! First, we got the two appetizers on the menu. The cucumbers were prepared in two ways and both were so fresh and crunchy. It especially paired well with the second appetizer, the karaage chicken. The warm crispy bite of the fried chicken followed by a refreshing crisp of the cucumbers was chef's kiss. Next, the pork ramen was perfect. The broth wasn't too thick, wasn't too oily, and balanced perfectly with the eggs (which you 100% cannot skip!) and other toppings. Last, the tsukemen was also delicious - thick and chewy noodles dipped in light broth that coats the noodles so that you can taste the flavor of the broth and the meat in one bite. Our food was also very quick to come out - appetizers came within 5-7 minutes after we sent in our order (you order by scanning a QR code with your phone after you're seated). Inside, it's crowded but a very cozy atmosphere! :)

Hot take: if you can get in within 30 minutes of waiting then this is a for sure. But we ended up waiting almost 2 hours on a Sunday night on the waitlist, and while good there's very little food that is worth waiting that amount of time. We got their karaage and house cucumbers for appetizers - the karaage was nothing special, but I really liked the house cucumbers that came marinated in 2 ways. My favorite was the tsukeman (dipping ramen) as I could really enjoy the texture of the noodles. My friends got the pork shoyu, which had great broth, and the tantanmen, which was good but I didn't think was extra special compared to other places. They also have chicken broth to add to the tsukeman dipping broth after you were done with the noodles, although at that point I was already too full. The restaurant isn't that large and they really try to get people seated, fed, and then out the door to get people in before doors close at 10. They are always polite, but if you don't like eating food in a rush (or just a very slow eater), then I'd try to catch them on an off hour. They have an online wait list, smaller parking lot in a plaza area but plenty of street parking on the street next to it. I'd recommend getting on the waitlist early and then doing something else if you really want to wait on a weekend.

What an amazing experience. Tucked in a little strip mall, with a line winding around the building, Menya Rui serves the best Ramen I've had in St. Louis and it's not even close. I ordered the pork shoyu-- a modest amount of meat, but done pretty well; great menma, ajitama, and broth; and excellent noodles. I enjoyed this so much and can't wait to come back. If you don't like having to wait for your food, or small somewhat loud/crowded spaces, this may not be the place for you. But if you like ramen, this is a must try in St. Louis.

First time trying authentic ramen & this was the best place to do so. We live right down the road and always see a long line, so we decided to go on a weekday a little after they opened and we were seated immediately. You grab your chopsticks, water, and napkins before you sit, then you order on your phone with a QR code. Everything came out super fast and was delicious. My only regret was not getting another order of the Karaage appetizer.

I went here tonight for dinner and it was great. Everything about the food was amazing and quick. The atmosphere was quiet and secluded. The self serve was convenient and the staff were very welcoming and helpful. I'd recommend about anything on the menu. I tried my friends' food and would have ordered all of them.

Food was very good. Had the karaage, pork shoyu ramen and the original aburasoba. The karaage had a light crispy exterior and was juicy inside. The shoyu ramen was good, BUT the aburasoba was fantastic. Well seasoned and the noodles were cooked perfectly with a nice and bouncy consistently. The service was non-existent. We came around 8 pm on a Wednesday night. The line was out the door, and we waited approx 45 minutes. You can serve yourself water while you wait. The server was very kind and quick in getting our food once we sat down. The interior vibe is a cozy, dimly lit Japanese bar. Probably not great for large parties but perfect for a date night!!

I really thought going at 8:40 on a hot, Thursday evening would diminish the line but there was still a line :). It wasn't bad, we probably got in within a half an hour. The space is tight but run like a well-oiled machine. The dining director - she totally had control of the dining room and kept it swift and light, indicated we could take chop sticks, napkins, and water at the front station and sat us at the bar. We watched what we could of the action! Looked around to see the other diners slurping up the goodness. I ordered the same Pork Shoyu I typically got before and it was delicious as usual; I was mad at myself as I totally forgot to add an egg! I won't forget that again. I swear I am going to try something different next time!

I dropped in on a Saturday evening and ordered the **Shroomed Up** ramen, and it was a ramen masterclass in a bowl. The broth managed to be incredibly rich and deeply savory-sweet all at once, without ever feeling heavy. It was loaded with thick, substantial slabs of mushrooms, tender-cooked bok choy, and the noodles were the star of the show--thick and perfectly cooked to that ideal sweet spot where they aren't too chewy but have zero mushiness. Even with a line stretching out the door when we arrived, the wait wasn't tedious, and we reached the counter reasonably fast. The ordering process is standard counter service, but the staff member who took our order was incredibly nice, polite, and helpful, practically predicting my questions as I was looking over the menu. The same employee even brought our bowls out to us. The space was definitely crowded for a weekend night, but the seat-yourself setup worked out perfectly for the two of us; we still had three tables to choose from.
