The lady that took care of us was so nice and went out of her way to accommodate na requests. The music playlist was also so good. Every single thing that i tried was amazing. The papas bravas were probably my favorite because of the ingredients in the sauce. Ive never had anything like it. The ricotta bread was also delicious and had a kick. My only non perfect rating would have to be the chorizo. The apple sauce with the chorizo felt like an odd pairing. Wish there was a third item in that dish that brought it together. But they offered a tasting menu as well. We chose to do the tasting menu. 4 courses each so we were able to share 8 total courses. We also had a wine pairing & some of thise wines were amazing. Best rose i have ever had. My favorite was the brussels with the sunflower caramel. Lightly sweet with the fried oily crispy sprouts. I stopped by Apéri in Tower Grove, a tiny wine bar that also serves tapas style plates. The place is very small, probably fewer than eight tables, which gives it a cozy and intimate feel. We went on a Sunday around 5 pm and there were already a couple other tables there, so I can imagine it fills up quickly at normal dinner times. I would probably make a reservation if planning to go at a typical hour. The service was excellent. Our server was attentive and really on top of things. We had the patatas bravas, which were good, and the croquetas de bacalao. The croquetas were a little runny for my taste. I usually prefer them a bit meatier, but they were still enjoyable. We also shared a cheese plate, which was a nice portion for a snack with wine. The wines we tried were very good. Overall, this feels like a great spot to stop for a couple glasses of wine and some snacks between plans. I could also see coming back and building a full meal by ordering a few different plates. We went to Aperi on Sunday afternoon at 4 for some before dinner drinks and snacks. They have a happy hour from 4-5 everyday with a nice menu including two feature glasses of wine for less than $10 and 4 or 5 snacks and an aperol spritz at happy hour price. We got the papas bravas and cheese plate off the happy hour menu plus the croquets de bacalao off the regular menu. Generally it's a small menu of tapas plus wines and cocktails but it's well curated. We enjoyed both the red and white featured wines both seemed very high quality and was fun to try something new. The food was delicious and happy hour prices were very reasonable. Service was prompt and our server was very knowledgeable about all the wines. You for sure need a reservation here unless you come at 4pm as it's quite an intimate space, I believe about 6 tables. They have a tasting menu for 2 or 4 that comes with several small plates and an optional drink pairing (2 wines and 2 cocktails). For two the food was only $60. Another wonderful visit and this time I brought a friend along because I enjoyed my first visit so much I wanted to share the experience. I really like the intimacy of a smaller space, it wasn't crowded and quiet. The most impressionable dish we had was the charred Brussels sprouts which we ordered three times! They were charred and crispy resting in a silky black sesame seed foam, sunflower seed caramel that offered to tame the bitterness. It offerdd a pleasant mouthful and we wanted to drink that foam. Bottle it up right now! Next was the beef tartare, quite flavorful and many textures to explore. The house made chips made a great vehicle as they stood up to the weight of the beef and had just enough kick to offer an unexpected surprise and putting it all together brought a delicious bite and left me wanting more. The Ozark mushroom were nice and earthy and offered a contrast to everything else we ordered. I am not a mushroom person and was able to keep eating them which is saying something! The pork cheek became one of the stand out favorites. I was not expecting the pork was fork tender and melted in your mouth. The tomato brodo was lovely and really added an elegant touch to the dish. The baba ganousch was great and its been difficult to find one in the area to compare to one I always ate in Arizona and this one nailed all the appropriate notes with the creaminess of the eggplant and brightness offered by the lemon. We also ordered the croquetas which became another hit for us. The crunchy exterior offered another element with the flaky white fish and remoulade gave it a punch that woke everything up. To finish off the night were the chocolate truffles with a scoop of the coca ice cream. I appreciated the ice cream being the right temperature with not being too cold. I loved the cherry cola flavor and it cut through the density of the rich dark chocolate which is needed. This place is a hidden gem in the grove. I have been here 2x for dinner, once with my friend and once with my husband for our anniversary. Both times the food has been excellent. For our anniversary, my husband and I tried the tasting menu. Everything was so delicious that I forgot to even take pictures of it! I tried one of their NA wines and it was pretty good. I had never had NA (de-alcoholized) wine before. For food, we had the crispy chickpeas (a must try! So good). The papas bravas (also delicious!) and the seared cod. The seared cod was yummy but very salty. However, I would definitely order it again. The one thing we got but didn't like very much was the charcuterie board. While it was large with a lot of selections, the meats didn't really hit home with us. It's a great spot for a cozy date night. Low lighting, not too loud. However, the main reason for my 4 star review instead of 5 was the service. I was tempted to put 3, but I am very impressed with the food, and also am a fan of Good Company next door and have only had good experiences there. However, our server was not friendly. He seemed like he would rather be anywhere else but there. Was not really helpful/attentive. I honestly don't think he smiled one time. People have bad days though. We also tried the NA red wine which wasn't bad but wasn't great; NA reds are challenging. Aperi is a quaint little spot in the Grove. I absolutely recommend reservations, as we did see the establishment have to turn away some folks. Reservations ARE worth it. But definitely plan ahead and just be there, I think they do reserve tables for approx 2 hours each because of the small space. Again, not a bad thing. We did not feel rushed at all. (There are a few bar spots that are open seating, but I would bank on that. The place was steady while we were there). Okay, onto the food and drinks! I was surprised to see orange wine on the menu! It's something I adored in Spain but with such chilly weather and some of our food pairings, I opted for a red. The berry hill cocktail was amazing as well. Charcuterie gets a 3.5 - it was a standard charcuterie board, great size and unique cheeses but the rest of the board was a bit standard. Whipped Ricotta - incredible. 4.5 stars I would have liked my bread toasted just a bit more and I wish they gave one extra slice of bread. (We did ask for one but it was sadly forgotten about with the busyness). The forgotten bread did NOT impact this rating, service was exceptional. Crispy Chickpeas - must have. I can't get over how crispy they actually were and I want to know how to make them at home because I would devour a bowl everyday. The simplicity of this dish was just amazing because it gave us the chance to really celebrate each ingredient. Papas Bravas - does come with an anchovy - be aware. (They have tinned fish and oysters on the menu, I'm not disappointed!) It added a great texture and flavor dimension to the savory fried potatoes. The vinegar and salt were a great balance. Seared Cod - this was well cooked, but the flavor wasn't as strong as I was hoping for. I think if I ordered it extra crispy it would do it but I don't want to lose the internal portions of the dish either because it was perfect. This was probably my least favorite dish of the night, but I would try it again for sure with maybe a tweak of extra crispy. Dessert (not pictured) was amazing - a dirty chai tiramisu. It is cozy and intimate and reservations are highly recommended as it is a very small bar. We were seated immediately but I had to go to the restroom and the waiter tried to take everyone's drink order without me being present. We were not a fan of our waiter. His demeanor and lack of checking in and refilling our water cups really turned us off. My girlfriends and I all ordered a spritz and we did not like any of our drinks and could not finish them. WOW! First time having at Aperi and it was delightful. The chick peas caught my eye a while back but actually having them was such a dream come true. They make them really crispy and the other parts make the whole really good! We also had the Brussels sprouts and seared cod. Cod was a tad small but so flavorful! A couple months ago, we came across Good Company and I was obsessed. Literally, my favorite cocktails in St. Louis at the moment. I've been wanting to go back with my brother and we finally made plans to do so on a Friday night BUT they ended up being SO busy and had an hour wait. Luckily, they told us they just opened Aperi and to check it out. It is a smaller venue right next door/connected to Good Company, but we were lucky to snag four spots at the bar. We had fantastic service all night, everything was timely and quick. This spot is more of a Spanish feel - lots of tapas. We weren't sure if we would be able to get enough to each since the menu is pretty small but it turned out being totally fine! The four of us split the ricotta (oh my god), the cheese plate, papas bravas, and brussel sprouts. Everything was so good. The flavors and sauces were fantastic. Their drinks had a Spanish flair - they definitely focus on spritzers and wines, which was awesome. Everything we tasted was fantastic. The place itself has a moody/dark academia feel which we loved. "chiaroscuro (noun) : the arrangement or treatment of light and dark parts in a pictorial work of art." While at Aperi, my partner and I had an interesting discussion about abstract art. As we made our way through our four shareable plates (Aperi's menu consists of only shareables), my mind was drawn back to the concept of chiaroscuro. Whether it was the sudden dimming of the lights midway through our meal or the fresh brightness of the ricotta cheese, our night at Aperi was full of contrasts. Our ricotta came out first - it was light and refreshing, flanked by two large pieces of crisp bread. The pine nuts and honey were nice touches, but to me the sweetness of orange unbalanced the flavor. My partner and I thought it was a solid choice. Second was our steak tartare, which arrived next to a mountain of potato chips. I had never had chips as a vessel for tartare, and the saltiness of the chip overpowered the taste of the beef. On their own though, the chips were phenomenal. We agreed that we wouldn't get this one again. For our mains we started with a pork cheek, which was luxuriously tender. It was the highlight of the night, but its complement was a risotto that was just a bit too salty for me. My partner also thought the risotto was too heavy, and we concluded that this was one risotto away from being a perfect dish. We finished with some mushrooms, where the polenta stole the show from the featured fungus. There was a nice hint of citrus to the mushrooms, but we both thought they were a bit too buttery. We both thought the polenta was the antithesis to the risotto - smooth, light and overall delicious. Aperi was a good time. Our server was attentive and we thought our food was good, but not out-of-this-world. It's worth noting that we didn't have any of the wine or spirit pairings during our visit. For those who do indulge, they might add one more (hopefully positive) contrast to your night. read more

However, we went there this evening for their NYE tasting menu, $100 pp. We had half portions, literal half of a sweet potato empanadas, which was tasty but very small and half of a portion. We paid a $20 pp deposit that was not put towards the bill. Food was great but not worth $100 pp, plus a $20 pp deposit. A $600 + bill is wild for the food / service. Parking was a slight challenge, but it was a Friday night in a busy neighborhood. We started off with the ricotta, which was the best I'd ever had. They were out of the pork cheek, so we went with the cod. This cod blew me away--who knew cod could be so good?! We finished the meal with dirty chai tiramisu which was gone in roughly 2 minutes.
