Saw this place in passing and decided to check it out. The website said reservations were required (which we made). Not as fancy as one would envision when reservations are recommended. It's a cute little soul food/southern cooking place with a little bit of a wine list. There were 2 other couples and ourselves dining, so I'm not sure why reservations are recommended. In talking to the bartender (who was delightful), apparently the place gets busy for weekend brunch and certain nights with happy hour specials, and you would want reservations. The food was so good. The menu was extensive, and most dishes were priced around $15-25. We had a smash burger with fries, fried shrimp (they were out of the coconut shrimp we really wanted), Philly cheesesteak egg rolls, and a side salad. It took a while to come out, but we were not in a rush. Everything was carefully plated and presented. Portions were generous, and there wasn't anything we didn't like. We had a couple of cocktails, which also took a bit, but the bartender carefully crafted each one and they were divine. I can't speak for other nights, but for this Saturday night, it was just one cook (which I believe is the owner?) and then a bartender who did all the front of the house duties. So it was a very slow paced dinner- no big deal, but don't come here hangry. Everything looked clean and well organized. We really enjoyed eating here and will dine here again. I'd probably rate it 4.5 stars overall, but I had to round up to 5. read more

I've been eyeing this place for a while meaning to try it out. It's a Black-owned business in the Patch neighborhood near the Ivory Theatre--an area worth a visit. We were interested in dining here before a nearby show and checked out the website--which recommended we make reservations. So we dutifully had a table held, then arrived to find we were the only customers dining in at the time. It was the weekend after a big holiday and the weather wasn't great; they seemed to be managing a brisk takeout service while we were there. We sat at the bar instead of a table, so we could check out available drinks and save our server/bartender a few steps. The wine list is short--just a few bottles each of red and white. There's a nice cocktail list and a few beers on tap. Food was fantastic! The menu leans toward southern and soul food. I enjoyed a seafood plate which included fried shrimp, fish, fries, and hush puppies. The atmosphere is casual to dressy--very welcoming and comfortable. And the brunch menu looks mighty tasty--I'll be back soon to try that out. read more

OMG I can't say enough about this place today September 19, 2026 was the first time that I tried other items on the menu. I normally go just for the brunch which is fantastic. I recommend the salmon croquettes, but I had their lean turkey burger with their Cajun fries. Everything was delicious. It was cooked well and seasoned. I also added a Greek salad. I was in St. Louis for a conference and wanted to find good food while supporting a Black-owned business--Wine Down Cafe checked both boxes perfectly. I stopped by on a pretty chill night with only a few other diners in the restaurant. There's plenty of seating for dining, plus a full bar if you're just in the mood for drinks. The server was great - she was very personable and made sure I had everything I needed. I loved the local welcoming vibe and the service was great. I loved that the owner was in the back cooking and everyone made it a point to ensure I was happy with my meal. The menu has a ton of delicious options, which made it hard to choose. I went with the mac and cheese lollipops and the burger with fries. The lollipops were delicious - fried to perfection and bursting with flavor. As for the burger? It was a pleasant surprise! I love testing burgers at different restaurants to see if they measure up to my favorites, and this one was definitely a contender. It was really good and I would definitely come back to have another along with the mac and cheese lollipops. I capped off my meal with their rum punch, which got a big smile from my server when I ordered it. I asked her why, and she said, "Everyone loves the rum punch"--and she wasn't wrong. It was strong, flavorful, and hit the spot. She also mentioned their weekend brunch, which now has me wanting to plan another visit to St. Louis just to try it. When we arrived at the building it wasn't too packed so I was a little hesitant. We were in the area and I wanted to try something new. I was glad I went with my gut because that food was beyond me. Man so flavorful! They had plenty of tables and a really nice patio outside to eat on. The waitress explained the menu well, gave suggestions and even told us about the daily specials they have. On Saturdays and Sundays they have brunch but Saturdays mimosas are BOGO so I didn't complain! I tried the pomegranate and pina colada. Both were extremely tasty. When we arrived Sunday I wasn't quite sure why. Unless they're used to having an influx of people. It's a decent space in South City. Our food arrives and again I'm disappointed on sight. I don't like deep fried croquets. Flat top cook them or in a skillet. UGH My toast arrived without butter. By the time the butter arrived my toast was cold. My eggs were cooked PERFECTLY as I requested. YES! That doesn't happen often for me. SCORE! I broke the croquets up. Being deep fried it's difficult to really enjoy them. Also, they could've used a little more flavor. My potatoes were ok. The toast was toasted perfectly. Everyone else at the table enjoyed their food. There were 5 of us in my party. Everyone had something different. It served its purpose of celebrating my mom. I heard their wings are good. Fun little place with a nice patio. It was a bit too cold for the patio when we came though. I got the house merlot and it was ok for flavor but served too warm. When it's that warm in the bar, you really need to keep the red wine colder. I'd rather it be too cold that too warm personally. The chicken teriyaki bowl was pretty good. Needed some salt in the rice and a tad more seasoning on the veggies. Unfortunately the chicken was on the edge of being tried out. When you dice them up like that before you cook the breast, it doesn't need that long to cook. You can get around this by marinating them ahead of time too or cooking the breast whole and dicing it up afterwards. The server was really nice and inciting. Overall a great stop and if more convenient for us, we'd be back. read more

Server was also knowledgeable gluten which is always a big plus for me. 2 for 1 mimosas on Saturday brunch! There was just one bartender on Saturday and I think that as this business grows they will definitely need more than one - but, in my opinion, that is a great 'problem' to have. Wonderful place near Carondelet Park! The server was very friendly! She told us all about the great specials they run all week like 2 for 1 drinks and discounts on the burger. They also have a brunch menu on the weekend. For dinner, I ordered a glass of the Lambrusco wine and the salmon bowl. The wine was fantastic! It was very reasonably priced and a huge pour. The salmon was outstanding! It was cooked to utter perfection and cooked way better than most every restaurant I've been too. It was so moist and falling apart. It had good seasoning so I didn't need the Yum sauce it came with, but decided to try it with the sauce anyway. The Yum sauce was like a spicy aioli and it was so good too. The veggies were amazing - perfectly charred and seasoned. The rice was yellow in color (assuming maybe turmeric seasoning was used to get it this color?). It was cooked well, but lacked a bit of seasoning. My husband ordered the chicken teriyaki bowl, so I borrowed some of his teriyaki sauce and put it on the rice then it was fantastic. The teriyaki sauce was very good! He said his bowl was good, but the chicken was a bit overcooked. We'd probably both get the salmon bowl next time with a side of teriyaki sauce for the rice:) read more

Y'all! You have to check out Wine Down! What a hidden gem! A few of us girls try once a month to pick a new place for brunch that we've never been to. Last week I chose Wine Down and I'm so glad I did! The moment we walked in the door we felt welcomed and part of the family. Everything was hot, fresh, and seasoned well. The mimosas were but one get one free and they had lots of different flavors to try. My favorites were the pomegranate and the pina colada flavors. I got the shrimp and grits ( pros: flavorful, 6 shrimp, creole e'touffe sauce, Gouda grits were flavorful) con: could have used a little more sauce to get through those thick grits).
