I visited with coworkers on a Monday evening for a celebratory happy hour. The location is convenient to the medical center, with nearby metered street parking. There is some limited outdoor seating on the sidewalk and indoor seating. Our group enjoyed delicious appetizers, and there were limited happy hour specials from their cocktail menu. I wanted wine and must say that they have really great wine - I enjoyed both the Pinot Noir and the Chardonnay. Also they had the most adorable bathroom with framed high school photos of celebrities (St. Louis is the most high school fixated city in America, IYKYK). The service was friendly but a bit uneven, considering how empty it was when we first arrived. There were some long waits for drinks, and a couple of mix-ups. I believe the main source of confusion was that one big check had been started, but with people coming and going at different times, it had to be split into separate checks on the back side so people could pay before leaving. I love Brennan's so much. It's cozy, has really great service, and the cocktails are wonderful. I enjoy how quaint it feels, and it has an elevated feel to it. We came here on a Wednesday afternoon when it was still warm out and sat on the patio. Their patio is small but intimate, and is a great place to unwind from the day. I ordered the dirty martini (vodka) and the ratio of olive/ vodka was perfect. You'll also find that it gets packed quickly (it's a popular spot- rightfully so) so I recommend going in the middle of the week. Great find. Traveling in the area and had dinner close by. Felt like a drink and cigar and Brennan's was only a short walk away. Walked over and were immediately greeted by one of the waitresses, super friendly and accommodating. We sat outside as it was a beautiful night. Probably about 20-25 cigars on the list, everything from mild to robust with all sizes and ring gauges. Nice whiskey and wine selection as well. Seems like a place where everyone knows your name. Love the vibe of this place! Their cocktails are batched, but some of the best and most creative cocktails I've had. I never knew I needed a beet juice cocktail until I had it here! The thing that surprised me the most about this place was the food. We always used to just come for cocktails and one day we decided on charcuterie and a flatbread. Updated review: as this is my 5th or 6th visit, I'd love to update my review. At this point, I have tried the Corpse Reviver, Pineapple Daiquiri, A Weis Mans Martini, If I Did It, and Smokey the Pear. The Corpse Reviver and Martini were amazing, strong without making you flinch! The others were sweet and went down smoothly with the Pineapple Daiquiri being my favorite in terms of flavor. I've been coming here for years and am always surprised at how each visit surpasses the last. I arrived with my date and despite it being packed, we were able to snag a two-seater in the room to the side. We were immediately given water (always a plus) and menus to peruse. We went through a few different cocktails and since we were having such a good time, I only managed to get a picture of one (Lex on the beach). This place has always impressed me with their top notch service, well-curated drinks, and fun, lively atmosphere. Comfortable environment with low booths and tables as well as bar seating. We went on a Friday night and were able to find a table relatively quickly, although it was full the entire night! I've been here a few times, and each time, sadly remember why it takes me so long to come back. * Pros: 1) good lighting 2) aesthetically pleasing atmosphere, appreciate the wood and rustic look of the bar and high top table in bar area 3) noise level is optimal and you can converse with those you visit with 4) visually pleasing cocktails and range of spirit selection * Cons: 1) Smelled like absolute sewage where they sat us - we were placed at the end of the bar by the bathrooms and trash can 2) Cleared plates were being set in front of us at the bar while servers scrapped remains into the trashcan behind the bar (also contributing to awful smell) 3) Service: the bartender that was tending to us was in a foul mood. She was complaining to my partner and I about another patron, and cursing about her annoyance with the patron. We found this to be odd and highly unprofessional behavior. I understand venting, but please attempt to be professional and do that with your colleagues, in back of house instead, to make your patrons feel welcomed and not uncomfortable. 4) Quality of cocktail: I ordered an aviation (which I love and frequently order out). I assumed that because of the standard Brennan's holds itself to, that the cocktail would follow suit. The drink had a few issues -- 1 it was over shaken, which watered it down and changed the balance of the drink and 2 it was not double strained, again, continuing to keep the drink watered down and also left me swallowing large chunks of ice with each sip. I did politely ask for the drink to be double strained and re-poured. Once it was double strained, it did make the drink more enjoyable. We had a one and done kind of cocktail night here and sadly, will not be returning in the near future. Hoping that the management sees this and can make a few helpful changes. Drink Tip for Brennan's: ask for your drink to be double strained if you're getting a cocktail, because apparently it is a not a standard practice. read more

We lifted our glasses multiple times to her amazing life. I am a drinker of classic cocktails, so my drinks of the afternoon were; Dirty Martini, Manhattan and Old Fashioned. They were all made superbly. I asked one of the bartenders how long he had been mastering his craft and he responded, one year. He's got a great career ahead of him, he made me some great cocktails. When drinking, it's always good to have a little nosh, to mix with the alcohol. We munched on their Potato Chips and Caramelized French Onion Dip. The chips were house made and crispy. However, the dip was a disappointment for me. We also had the, Black Truffles Flatbread and it was excellent. On my return, I will definitely be ordering it again. Brennan's is a great place to day drink. The atmosphere is classy and relaxing. I'm kinda glad I moved out of STL, because being retired and having a lot of free time, I'd be here doing a lot of day drinking. My cousin and I went there. Definitely a good bar scene. Not many food options. You have 3 pages worth of drinks though. The bartender continued to serve someone that was obviously drunk and laughed it off. The space is small so you can get felt on trying to go to the bar and squeeze through groups of men. They asked for both of me and my cousins card, my cousin told them she was paying but they end up charging my card, then today charging my card again with a $10 difference. This place is super cool! I love the design with funny sayings and even funny art in the bathrooms. It is a little small, so I would bet a lot of days if fills up pretty quickly! The servers are frequently returning to help, but they are not overly chatty which is nice. They refill water regularly and they can answer questions about the drinks. This is a very cute spot! Came here for the drinks as I am not a cigar smoker, but the drinks were still great. They have an impressive wall of liquors, including what looks like whiskeys on tap! Interesting menu of cocktails, including good take on classics and some very inventive drinks (my friend let me try her beet cocktail and it definitely had a lot of jalapeno in it -- I could smell the jalapeno). That said, I really enjoyed my martini. It was phenomenal! Possibly one of the best martinis I've ever had. Very dirty martini, but with complexity from the different types of brine. A tiny bit of heat from the dried chili, dill and pearl onions nicely compliment the briny umami flavors. So delicious! Brennan's has what I consider to be the best Old Fashioned in the City. They make it a bit sweeter than the average old fashioned which I prefer, so if you are an old fashioned naturalist it may not be up to your standards. I also rolled with a smoky the pear. Wow, this thing was beautiful. The smokiness of the mezcal was accentuated perfectly by the slightly sweet nuances of the pear. Absolutely a top tier cocktail. Craft and balance are at the forefront of Brennan's bar program. Now, the moment you have been waiting for: the bathrooms. Some may feel uncomfortable as you have the eyes of hundreds of celebrities staring at you while you use the restroom, but I love it. Every inch of the bathroom walls have celebrity yearbook photos, which is just a wonderful ode to St. Louis culture. I always try to name as many celebrities as possible. It is a fun little game to play while washing your hands. Brennan's is an incredible date night spot, celebration spot, or anywhere in between. Low key, vibey, and boozy.
