Lazy Tiger is a part of the Yellow Belly and Extra Wavy family of restaurants that focuses on inventive cocktail creations and seafood forward dishes. The restaurant itself is quite small and is located on the other side of Yellow Belly. The entrance has minimal space that looks to be able to accommodate 4 or 6 people if you're waiting for a table. Inside, the spacing is fairly decent for being a smaller location. I didn't feel too crammed dining and the 2-seater table was of normal size so there was enough room. We were seated right by the entrance with a curtain separating the area. True to its name, a Tiger statue sits at the entrance which is decorated in tropical manner. The theme continues within the restaurant. Lazy Tiger has a happy hour which if I remember correctly, ended at 6:30. Their cocktails are $12 during happy hour (rather than $14) and they have a selection of snack type items which you could have as appetizers if you'd like. We both got a cocktail. My husband had the human costume (gin, amaro, blanc vermouth, melon, gnartruese, malic acid) and I had the humble brag (gin, rhum, salted banana, forbidden rice, coconut, lemon). Both were refreshing and different but in a good and surprising way. We started with the nachos from the happy hour menu and added some pork belly per our writer's recommendation. I love pork belly anything anyway. The nacho was a huge serving! And it was very tasty with a good amount of crispy pork belly peppered throughout. I had the Morrocan spiced halibut served with couscous, asparagus, Spanish chorizo, tomatoes, pistachio dukkah. Halibut was well seasoned and prepared perfectly. We also shared an order of the vegetable fried rice and added some spam because I am a sucker for spam fried rice. It came with some chili crisps which brought the dish to another level. My husband had the tamales which he thoroughly enjoyed. I didn't get to try some but it looked fantastic. I assume they share a kitchen. Lazy Tiger was opened just two years after Yellowbelly with the intention of creating a space that has a more intimate. Mission accomplished. Lazy Tiger is a vibe! The interior decor and music create a romantic punk fusion that is perfectly executed. The menu and creative cocktails complement that same unique approach. We opened with some small starter plates to share. The fried oysters were a fun opener recommended by our attentive and knowable server Noah. We shared charred carrots and vegetarian taquitos that were fabulous. Then we shared the short rib large plate for the entree. The short rib is slow cooked for 36 hours and can be cut with a spoon it's so tender. I felt the creative cocktails were full of bold pairings that challenged the palate. Their version of an old fashioned was sweetened with peach and honey! The best old fashioned I've ever tried! They had every traditional cocktail but with a spicy twist of fun. This was an encore visit; as I had a lovely experience just a week ago. Today I decided to try different items on the menu along with my dining companion, who's never been to LT. We arrived promptly for our 5:30pm reservation. My dining companion thoroughly enjoyed the pork belly & lobster roll. I loved the Nashville oysters but felt the Caesar salad & fried rice were lackluster. My cosmo was perfect, I appreciate bartender's attention to detail. The space is small, intimate, chill vibe with dim ambiance. My complaint is in mid-conversation our server came over and said, "ok ladies we'll have to wrap this up the wedding party is arriving". We started with Brussels sprouts and holy mother of god they were amazing. The fried rice with all the fixin's added in was also divine. The other dish we got was the steak which was good. We love this place. It's definitely worth checking out during their happy hour which is Monday through Friday 5 to 630 where they have $12 cocktails and a small discounted food menu. Definitely, definitely, definitely make a reservation because they are usually booked on the weekends. We love to sit at the lazy Tiger bar because the bartender is awesome and it's much quieter than the tables in my opinion and great for just two people on a date night . My favorite cocktail is the "too much mustard". My husband rotates, but he likes the "lazy tiger". Overall it was a pretty great experience from beginning to end. I was a little confused upon arrival because it's not easy to spot the entrance with it being connected to Yellow Belly. The lazy tiger is a place that I cannot wait to visit again! When my friends and I arrived for happy hour and snacks we were one of the only tables inside since we got there right at 5 pm. It eventually started to get packed, but we had our table so it was alright. The space is smaller with a few tables and a bar area. We each looked at the cocktail menus and were impressed with the amount of items available and they even had some festive holiday drinks too! To my surprise, the drink was playfully served over shaved ice a in a lucky cat tiki mug. Not only was the presentation of the drink a hit, but the flavors were well balanced making it smooth and enjoyable. I came here on a Saturday for dinner with two girlfriends. We split the crab fritters, salmon skewers, & french fries. Rachel got a fish sandwich she said was one of the best fish sandwiches she's had in her life! Last night, my daughters and I went to Lazy Tiger for dinner, and it was incredible! From the beginning, we were welcomed by a wonderful hostess with the most adorable curls, setting the tone for an amazing evening. Everything from the drinks--like the Lucky Lips and the Lazy Tiger--to the food was fantastic. The happy hour menu was also a standout, with each item being absolutely wonderful. The salmon from the main menu was cooked perfectly by the chef, and the crab fritters were heavenly. I scarfed down half of it but felt a WIERD consistency then I looked at the other end and saw that it was half raw in the inside! Again, this has NEVER happened to me here and the team was apologetic, gave me sparkling water to smooth my stomach and took it off the bill. I wanted the sandwich so they brought me another one that was added to the bill. It seemed fine BUT I've been nauseous for the past 24 hours and sick to my stomach. TL:DR - One of the top 3 cocktail bars in STL. Lazy Tiger can be a bit challenging to find,being at the very back of the Yellowbelly restaurant. However, it is well worth the search. This small bar has a dark, intimate vibe perfect for date night; however, you can have just as great a time sitting alone at the tiny four seat bar as the bartender here is awesome--great conversation, clear passion for mixing, and may even offer you some samples from the bar. The menu consists of a diverse set of cocktails intuitively broken up into blocks by vibe. One of the elements that sets Lazy Tiger apart from other bars in the area is how unique the flavor profiles and textures of the drinks are through the combination of a wide variety of spirits from around the globe and different preparation techniques like milk clarification. The menu will rotate occasionally but some of my previous favorites include the Freezer Door Martini and Humble Brag. Connected to their partner restaurant and bar, Yellowbelly, Lasy Tiger takes a different approach to their cocktail program shifting the focus to agave spirits. I started with the Railroad man which they had discounted for happy hour. A spirit forward libation, the earthiness of the reposado cut through the bourbon really well to create an interesting flavor combination I was a big fan of. It was earthy, oaky with just enough sweetness to maintain the balance it needed. Next up was the Glamour Profession. This was a much more crushable cocktail. Incredibly light and refreshing, but still maintaining the funkiness you love with the Jamaican rum. You don't often see bourbon and tequila mixed, or rum and tequila mixed, Lazy Tiger hit the mark on both. My friend got the floor is guave. Wow, so incredible. The smoky, floral notes of the mezcal were highlighted perfectly while the guava offset it just enough to keep from overpowering the drink. The food was amazing. I grabbed the black bean nachos and beef fat fries. The fries are crispy, salty, and just flat out delicious. Let's not mince words, they are elite. Point blank. The garlic ranch is so tangy. There is a reason every table inside had an order of these. The black bean nachos were just as impressive. The chips were so fresh they were still glistening from the fryer. The queso was rich, and the beans were just salty enough. Pair that with the crema, cotija cheese, and fresh peppers and every bite left you with a rich succulence that kept you coming back for more. The vibes inside are amazing. The music and conversation are loud enough that you always hear them, but not so loud they impede your conversations, a difficult balance to achieve.
