I've been to High Bar somewhat recently during an event and was quite impressed that I wanted to come back so soon for a proper dinner. I made reservations, they require a credit card to make reservations so that if you cancel outside of the 24-hour time period or you do not show up, they can charge you up to $25 per person. Fair. I've seen this before in other restaurants. I made a 5:45 pm reservations as it was on a Saturday and I wanted to get there before it got too busy. We were seated on the lounge area. I asked the waitress if there was a way we could be seated at a normal table for dining. She then explained that people have eaten dinners on those tables before and that there's no open tables to move us to. Why, yes. I have also eaten off of a picnic blanket while at the park. I am well aware that people can eat off of different types of surfaces. Anyway, we made do though I was annoyed having to lean forward to take a bite out of my steak. The plate was too large to sit on my lap and I didn't want to eat off of my lap anyway. By the way, the proper table by us was empty the whole time from the time we got there, ordered appetizers, and our main entree, ate everything and sat around for 10 more minutes to finish our drinks. The food was excellent! We started with the crab dip which was true to its name. It had crab meat and topped with some crisp bread crumbs, no fillers. For places who try to pass off crab dips, they should take a page off of High Bar's recipe book. My husband had the chicken sandwich and I had the steak for my entree. As usual, I ordered mine medium rare which came properly prepared. I always get nervous when ordering steak at a non-steakhouse but I trusted my gut and they delivered. My husband really enjoyed his chicken sandwich. It had 2 fried chickens stacked atop one another. He took one off and took it home for later. We both had some cocktails. I love their spritz and the spritz options they have. Our waitress was okay. She wasn't overly friendly or attentive but she took our orders and kind of acknowledged our existence when she had to. The people delivering our food and drinks were nicer. We wanted to take our leftovers home and told our waitress this. She dropped off some containers and the check. We left shortly after. I visited the High Bar in Claton for a professional networking event. It took me a bit to find it, but I am so glad I didn't give up. While the drinks were pricey--as drinks typically are at a hotel bar--they were also delicious. It was the space that made it so nice, though. We were outside in a place semi-protected from the elements; so even though it was hot at the time, the evening shade and the breeze made it quite lovely. There was a great variety of sitting and standing space, making it nice for moving from group to group and talking with new people. This would be a really nice place to come on a date, too. What a VIBE! I had been wanting to come here forever and finally came to celebrate my birthday. Word of the wise: make a Rez online! We got there and it was packed! I was so happy I had made a reservation weeks in advance. We had a table for 6 with 1 additional and they were accommodating by pulling up a chair (grateful for this). We came to check this spot out looking for one of our favorite bartenders whom left one of our go-to spots to support her new endeavor. Of course she wasn't working that night but that didn't stop us from checking the place out an staying. The High Bar in Clayton, lives up to it's name. It's a chill, swanky bar situated in the heart of Clayton, a roof top bar with the views to match. The decor is upscale but laid back. You can dress up or dress down it doesn't matter. They have indoor and outdoor seating. No reservations needed. We walked in and sat at the bar with ease. The drinks are pricey which is to be expected but the food is more on the reasonable side. The Caesar salad was top notch and we added chicken for like $5 extra. We were so surprised at how elevated the salad was with the addition of the chicken. The downside was that the Caesar salad was lacking parmesan cheese, we had to ask for extra but the dressing was very good, not overly saturating the salad but also not lacking to make the salad dry. We also order a side of truffle fries which state truffle and parmesan snow, that was far from the case but the fries were hot-n-fresh and tasted delicious. The BF ordered the bar burger which he really enjoyed. The burger came with white cheddar, bacon, caramelized onion, house pickle and what they call fancy sauce and a side of fries. It was a solid burger for $19.00. What is lacking here is customer service to an extent. Some of the staff is gracious and friendly and some of the staff act like they only have one job and that's what they are going to do all night. If you bring out any type of food and a customer ask you for something, why isn't it your job to accommodate said request. If a customer ask for some napkins or a side of ranch, etc. If you brought out the food wouldn't you ask is everything ok, do you need anything and if the customer ask for something in addition that isn't out the way for you why would the customer have to ask someone else because you state you that isn't your job. What sense does that make. Does everyone NOT work together as a TEAM. Apparently TEAM is a foreign concept here. So if my server is the bartender and he's busy I have to wait while food gets cold because you do not want to walk back into the kitchen for some ranch, didn't you just bring my food out from said kitchen. Okkkkkk The drinks are literally OKayyyyyyy, for a bar of this caliber I expect perfection and I expect the bartender to be a mixologist. I would expect that you know your craft and can deliver. I also expect that you would know how to make a drink that's not on the menu. This place is great for out-of-towners who are staying in the hotel but for native St. Louisans they need to step their game up a notch. A good spot for drinks with friends before a night out or maybe an evening happy hour. The food was good, the charred zucchini was different, and very interesting. Very yummy! The citrus shrimp were good. And of course, the truffle fries, can't really go wrong there. However, we were disappointed with the espresso martinis. They are advertised on the menu as having espresso in them along with Kahlúa... But I honestly feel like it was just Kahlúa. I'm a bit of an espresso martini snob... And I only want them if they are made with real espresso... And light on the cream or Baileys. These were very translucent and see-through, and they tasted just like pure Kahlúa. I was not impressed. Honestly they were gross. One of our group didn't even finish hers. I would not get them again. So I don't know if they were just made wrong or what... But I followed up with a traditional vodka martini, and that was perfectly fine. Also, the service was only so-so. Our server wasn't really around much and was kind of hard to find. And she would runoff before we could really ask any questions. Not very attentive. Parking is not the easiest. Went here for happy hour work a friend and this place is lovely. Located on the 11th floor of the AC hotel, this place has an amazing view. Also there is a garage for easy parking. The inside has a wall of windows to look out at and there looks like there is a lovely outdoor area (it was too cold for that). The cocktail menu and cocktails are delicious and they had all the classic ones I love. I had an old fashioned and an espresso martini, my friend had the sazarac. Food was good as well. We got the margarita flatbread which was crispy, filled with pesto and delicious. We also had the seared tuna stack and I wished the crispy rice that held the toppings was crispier but was otherwise very tasty. The favorite dish for everyone at the table was the baked ricotta which came with delicious fresh bread. It was so creamy and came with honey, fig and pistachios. We also had the brownie sundae for dessert which was of course good but nothing special. I did appreciate that it came with one scoop of each ice cream flavor including vanilla, strawberry and chocolate. The ambiance includes dim lights, semi-loud music and lots of modern wood accents. It was a great place for some late night drinks but a little loud to have full dinner conversations. I also didn't love the table we sat at because it was very wide across so it was even harder to hear people at the table. There are several other seating options available though. Lastly, the service including the front desk and our waitress were all super friendly and helpful. However, I accidentally clicked 11R on the elevator instead of 11 so it took me to the kitchen of the restaurant. I was very confused so I peaked my head in to say sorry and ask for help. The staff member seemed very annoyed and told me to press 11 so I pressed 11R again because I honestly didn't see 11 was an option and he yelled at me very aggressively "NO!PRESS 11!" Today is opening day and this is an awesome addition to the Clayton area. The design of the space feels warm but modern, very chic. The mixed types of seating gives it an elevated feel. The windows open and close to create the rooftop experience and there is still outdoor seating available with a firepit for the winter. Settling on a seat at the bar, I ordered a Woodford Old Fashioned for the win. It was well balanced and had the Woodford was definitely present! It's great for the after work wind-down. The biggest downside to coming here was that we didn't have a reservation. I tried to book a week in advance, but there were none available so we tried to do a walk-in. The host told us 45 minutes, but we ended up waiting closer to an hour and a half. I appreciate that they don't rush you off of your table, but I wish they had a better way of accommodating people on a waitlist. They're also isn't a lot of standing room or bar room so if you do have to wait around, there's not a lot of space for that. The drinks were great and they had some decent food options as well. Omg! This place is absolutely beautiful! I saw it recently opened and was super excited to check it out- not just for the views and vibes but because I found another restaurant that serves pesto! I came here fairly early after work and was able to get a seat at the bar with no problem. Per the website, a reservation is required. That doesn't apply to the bar, as it's first come, first serve. I was given water and a menu right away (always a plus). While they have a plethora of options to choose from, I went with the cosmo for my first drink. It was made really well and I appreciate the bartender asking my preference on whether I preferred it sweet or not. After I put my entree in (pesto rigatoni), I decided to do a lap and see if it lived up to the hype. Aesthetically, it's stunning; from the fixtures to the details. Nothing was missed. For a second i thought i was in Chicago or Manhattan because of how dimly lit the place was and the vibes it gives off. It's super classy and def. gives off that big city vibe. Alas, my pesto came and I couldn't wait to dive in. It was just how i liked it: perfect amount of sauce with a generous portion of Parmesan sprinkled on top. Note I have two pics, as one is without the pine nuts and the other with. I saw on the menu that it came with pine nuts but was surprised when they brought it out on the side. The first bite was better than expected! The pesto was perfect; not too garlicky but enough to where it was bursting through but not overpowering the dish. The sun dried tomatoes and pine nuts were a perfect addition, especially since those don't always come with pesto dishes. By that time I was ready for my next drink. After conversing with the bartender earlier, he recommended a lemon drop. I asked how we could jazz it up and he suggested a reposado blackberry lemon drop and I said, say less! This was easily one of the best lemon drops I've ever had. The blackberry really shone through and gave the added kick to put the drink over the top. I def. want to start getting that, going forward. After managing to eat all but three pieces (because, you know, decorum) I decided that was enough and asked for the check. I had high hopes for this beautiful rooftop bar. We had reservations for 5 people. When we arrived we found out to sit outside, which is the whole purpose of going there. You can only have four people at a table unless you sit in the lounge area. They wouldn't let us move a chair to make enough room for all of us sit at a table with a view. None of us could really understand the reason behind, not even being able to move a chair when there was plenty of room to put one at the end of a table We were told if we wanted to order food and sit out there that we could sit at the couches that they had but basically balance our food on our laps.
