We finally made it! We'd been wanting to check this place out for quite some time, so after dinner on Saturday, we decided it was the perfect opportunity to see what all the hype was about. Before heading over, I reminded my friend to check their Instagram page so we'd have the password ready in case it was required. When we arrived, we were warmly greeted at the entrance. The host asked whether we had reservations (we didn't) and then gave us the option of sitting at the bar or at a table. We opted for a table, and after only a brief wait--and providing the password--we were welcomed inside. From the moment we entered, it was clear that a lot of thought had gone into creating the space. The décor is beautiful, and the ambiance perfectly complements the concept. The menu is thoughtfully organized into modern cocktails, classic cocktails, mocktails, and spirits. Each drink feels carefully crafted, with ingredients and presentations that transport you to another era and add to the immersive experience. I chose the Poetic Legs, which features aged rum, pineapple, almond orgeat, Angostura amaro, and lime. It was exceptionally well balanced. The pineapple and rum gave it a bright, tropical character, while the amaro and lime added depth and complexity. Although it leaned fruity, it never crossed into overly sweet territory, making it an easy and enjoyable cocktail to savor. Despite being a Saturday night, the atmosphere was surprisingly relaxed. I appreciated the balance between sophistication and comfort--it felt upscale without being pretentious, making it easy to settle in and enjoy the experience. We didn't try any of the snacks this visit, but the chocolate chip cookies definitely caught my eye and are already on my list for next time. Overall, this was a great first visit, and I can see why so many people recommend it. Once your eyes adjust to the limited lighting, you realise you're in a fun spot. Lafayette Sq is a nice neighbourhood and this speakeasy was an interesting adventure. Everyone liked their drinks and I think the cocktail menu being named for women from Prohibition is a really interesting concept. She's giving underground Gatsby vibes! You walk in and you're downstairs in this dark, moody, swanky joint! It's dramatic. The decor is dialed in. Low lighting, intimate corners, just enough mystery. Now let's talk cocktails because that's the whole point. These mixologists are not here to play. Every drink feels intentional. This is not a vodka soda crowd. This place is a great place to get a well balanced drink and catch up, or a date night tbh. Our waitress was so knowledgeable and friendly she truly gave great service. We got a flat bread to share and it was light but a perfect snack to go with drinks. The chocolate chip cookies are also a must get to end the night they are warm, sweet and topped with that flakey sea salt that goes so well with the chocolate. Overall if you're looking for a fancier sitting down bar experience this is it. We made a reservation but it did not seem extremely busy. Parking isn't too bad too; they have a lot but there's parking all around too! read more

We came with a group of six, late on a Saturday. It's better to make an advance reservation online, but we didn't have to wait too long. The hostess was very friendly and accommodating for our large group and kept up conversation while we waited. Inside, the atmosphere was just what you want in a basement speakeasy: low lights, comfortable couches and chairs, wooden bar, perfect mood music, and a 1920s vibe in line with the Prohibition/Gatsby theme. The drinks were first-rate, and beyond that, one of the owners (Rich) chatted with our table a while and blessed us with some complimentary cookies and tarts since it was the end of the night. I love this place! A true speakeasy with emasculate vibe and decor. The entrance was also hidden so it was fun trying to figure out where to go. Once you enter the Gatsby building, you will go to the basement and there you will find Prohibition. They asked me for the password but I easily found it off the their website. I was so stunned when I first walked in because inside was so beautiful. It was dark and intimate, perfect for a romantic date night. It really set the mood. Their menu is inspired by the famous women of the 1920s. I like that they have a good selection for NA and not just the plain canned drinks. I got the Bronze Venus, highly recommend you order that drink if you want an NA option. I tried the alcoholic cocktail and it was very good as well. Price was very reasonable with specialty cocktails at $17 and mocktails at $12. Make sure you reserve your table in advance online before coming since it might filled up. read more

Our group of 6 visited on a Friday night, and had a bit of trouble finding the entrance (which I actually appreciated, as it is a speakeasy). The space is sexy and elegant, and the service was incredibly friendly. Our server was very helpful with the menu and recommendations. Their signature cocktails are all fun riffs on classic cocktails. Besides that, they also offer beer, wine, mocktails, and other cocktails. Among the drinks we ordered were the Liquid Gold, Volstead Violations, Poetic Legs, and Lady of the Law. I think the Poetic Legs was my personal favorite (I love the complexity of a jungle bird), but everyone enjoyed their drinks! Prices are also pretty reasonable at around $15 per drink. We've been here twice now. The guest time was their opening night and then again last weekend. Absolutely love it. If you were sad when the 21st Brewery closed, you'll be happy to see what they've done with the place. The space is absolutely perfect for a speakeasy. I love that they have the "secret" entrance and password. The decor, which pays homage to the women of prohibition, fits the space and gives it such great ambiance. The service, even on opening night, has been outstanding. Friendly, prompt, attentive without being intrusive. We were offered a bowl of mixed nuts to accompany our cocktails, which is a nice added touch. The craft cocktails have been superb. The balance, the aesthetics, everything. The specialty themed cocktails are $15, which is very reasonable these days for good craft cocktails. This place is a must-do, especially if you dig the speakeasy vibe. read more

My first time checking out the new speakeasy, tucked away in the basement, and a little tricky to find, but once you're inside it has a true speakeasy vibe: dark, sultry, and almost cinematic. They offer a mix of classic cocktails and their own signature creations, though there's no food menu. I really liked their house Old Fashioned made with apple brandy. I also thought the French 75/Last Word hybrid was a fun, lighter option, but the Old Fashioned was definitely my favorite. read more

Had a phenomenal Friday evening at Prohibition with a good friend of mine. Immediately greeted and seated at my reserved spot. Our bartender/server was Marissa and she was absolutely amazing. Very personable and knowledgeable about the menu/drink. You can truly tells she cares about her craft and enjoys what she does. The atmosphere of this bar was a very dark romantic/quaint vibe with nice low lighting. They have light bites to eat, which my friend and I shared a charcuterie board, Marissa brought the board out and explained everything that was laid out in front of us. This was my first time going to Prohibition, but it definitely won't be my last! read more

We had to call the host to guide us to the proper entrance once inside. There's no signage, true speakeasy. We appreciated the hunt. Greeted with a welcome drink after sharing we were celebrating a birthday - such a lovely first impression. The ambiance is what you would expect, dimly lit. however, the bar is larger than expected for a speakeasy, so you could easily come solo for a drink. read more

First time at Prohibition was for my birthday. I did mention this when I made reservations online. It was a little difficult to find the entrance but look for the Gatsby sign then go downstairs. There is a chair in the hallway but I'm not sure if the hostess comes out when it's time to seat someone or if she sits out there most of the evening. I was early but she did go ahead and seat me. The server was very knowledgeable and explained the drink menu. Many drinks on the menu are named after women who played an instrumental part in the Prohibition era. Tucked in next to "Extra Wavy," Prohibition is, you guessed it, a speakeasy serving some really excellent drinks. I had the Liquid Gold and thought it was absolutely amazing. One of the best drinks I've ever had in fact. My wife wasn't a huge fan of hers, but that was just a personal preference (I believe the mint was not to her liking.) This spot is DARK. Like, comically so, but we dug it. Service was excellent. A few qualms, as this is Yelp: we came in at 530 with reservations for Wavy above at 6PM. Told the hostess this info, and for a few moments it seemed like we wouldn't be able to get in. (I rec'd reservations.) She asks if we know the password, we did not, and we were requested to do a little jig. Felt like it cheapens the experience, especially at the price point. I get it, but it's silly and I don't like being put on the spot. 2nd qualm: we enter and there's this big, beautiful bar w/ only 2 people sitting there. I kindly requested if we could sit at the bar, as we were in a time crunch, alas it was all booked up, apparently. Maybe one more table walked in the 30 minutes we were there. Just found it odd that she couldn't seat us at the bar. I've worked in hospitality before, and this was a simple request that could've easily been granted.
