I visited for a private function and loved everything about it. It is a cute quaint place for conversation, dancing or just to hangout. Because it was set up for the private event I didn't get many pictures of the venue. I did get one of the bar ;). I had an old fashion cocktail, it was very good. I will definitely visit again to experience it in full form.

I have waited to write a review, as I I wanted to give this spot another chance and visit again. Now I have been here two times, on different days of the week/end, and both experiences were underwhelming. The space itself is unique and fun to get to, as you walk through the alley and have to give a password for entrance, but the seating was quite uncomfortable and lacked the ability to maneuver your chair to be able to hear the person(s) you are with, and makes it difficult to share conversations over a cocktail. We would have loved to sit at the bar, but were told that they only seat singles there, and never parties of two (bummer!). I have tried a few different cocktails on their menu and nothing has wowed me... there are other speakeasy spots in the city with similar pricing, and in my opinion, much better drinks with a more inviting atmosphere. In response to Kim: yes, I agree being solo at a speakeasy would be lonely, if seated at a table by yourself in the back. I was not criticizing that aspect, just sharing that it would be nice, if there were multiple empty seats, to allow a two-some to sit at the bar... if space allowed (on one visit it most definitely did). I understand it's your policy, and I am only sharing my experience, which is what this page is all about. Cheers!

I love the code word and ambiance of this speakeasy. I could hang out here every night of the week. The bartenders can handle any of your requests and once you've been seated you're not rushed to leave. Linger, enjoy great drinks and conversations with a bit of shrouded people watching. I'll visit again soon.

Awesome spot. A little small but the drinks are fantastic, with a great gatsby vibe, and the music is great! Great place to go with a date or group of friends to catch up

We had a blast! I was not sure about this, but my better half had heard about it and wanted to go for our anniversary. It was raining the night we went, parked a block away and went down the alley. It's a legit alley, flooded with rain and dumpsters. Coming to the door, we pushed the button, and we're "greeted" by the doorman, who played his part perfectly. After giving the password, we were let in and soon led downstairs to answering area. Very cool atmosphere, no rush, not blaring music. Clearly meant to sit and relax. We loved the decor of the place. We tried a couple of drinks and our server was great! After closing the tab, it's back upstairs. The doorman let me know to hit the door hard to open it, and I startled the 2 couples standing outside. I looked at the doorman and asked if they were allowed in, to which he said, "no, close that behind you and have a great night." The couples looked confused, but we let them know that as long as they had the password, they were in for a treat. Looking forward to bringing friends soon!

Whether it's a girls night out, date night, or just you wanting to grab some drinks this is the place you MUST try next! Came in on date night for a night out and this place did NOT disappoint! Dress to impress or dress causally- there is no dress requirements although I love how dressed up the door person was. My favorite part was saying the password of the night! (Make sure you look at their Instagram page before coming to the door that is accessed through the alley). Upon arriving you are accompanied by the door person and led down a few flights of stairs and are led to a dim lit lounge area- we came in around 11:30pm on the weekend and Ordered a few drinks before their last call (we ordered the drinks at the bar and then a server came by to hand deliver the drinks to our placement). My overall favorite drink was the "Razzmatazz" it was SENSATIONAL! Don't let the yogurt throw you off like it did for me! It's such a picturesque drink and the floral decoration did it for me! (We also ordered the "Beyond the Pleasure Principle" which was also PHENOMENAL it is not pictured because I finished it before I could get a picture - but it was garnished beautifully with scorched rosemary) The ambiance was very laid back and the music was great- I couldn't stop dancing and singing in my chair! I just wish there was a place to dance so I could get it all out, Overall, I'm looking forward to coming again and trying out more of their drinks!

I've been wanting to check this place out for years but never took the time to go since I live in the area and can go any time, but I'm glad I finally did! This place is 100% worth the visit. You enter through the alley behind the building and ring the doorbell. A door person comes out to greet you, and you give that person the secret passcode. I got the secret passcode from Thaxton Speakeasy's Instagram page. Then I was led down flights of stairs to get to the bar and lounge area. The bar and lounge area appeared really classy. I loved the velvety couches, chill ambiance and music, classy decor, and friendly staff. They had a silent film playing on a projector with various large playing cards displayed on the walls. The bartender had an approachable personality, and the server Kaleigh was also very friendly. I tried two different drinks and they were both phenomenal. My favorite was the El Zarco cocktail. I love sweet, tropical cocktails but not overly sweet, and that's exactly what it was. I also tried the Beyond the Pleasure Principal cocktail and the flavor was good and the froth was enjoyable. I will definitely be back to try more!

What a wonderful idea to have a speakeasy in downtown St. Louis. They have everything from the secret entrance to the password at the door then down the stairs and to the right dim lights terrific drinks and add a yelp gathering with Kelse and it was everything. The charcuterie trays did not disappoint with delectable delicacies luv prosciutto, and Brie fresh fruit salami wild honey and the best snack crackers. I had a white wine spritzer with a generous pour, the bartender was polite and courteous. A nice crowd but the line was steady. You could tell everyone was enjoying themselves by the chatter in the room not many phones out making' it an oh so social affair.

A good spot for a speak easy. The staff was okay, but the drinks were amazing. I'm looking forward to going here again with a better experience so I can update the review.

Went here after dinner for drinks. Awesome cocktails and atmosphere. Follow their Instagram account to get the weekly password to enter. Host is in character reminiscent of the Prohibition era. Silent movie is playing on the wall.

What a fantastic place! Super unique venue that was artistic and true to the era. The attention to detail was magnificent. Would be perfect for all sorts of events! Staff were very helpful and drinks were tasty! Was recently here for a Yelp event and the atmosphere was electric. I will definitely be recommending this place to family and friends!

The space is intimate, stylish, and perfectly appointed -- the kind of place that feels like you've stumbled into a secret little jewel box in the city. It's cozy in the best possible way, with an atmosphere that invites laughter, celebration, and maybe just a little fabulous mischief. The bartenders? Absolute pros. Warm, welcoming, and clearly masters of their craft. Naturally, I ordered my classic gin and tonic, and it was perfection in a glass -- crisp, balanced, and exactly what a proper G&T should be. I heard from the birthday boy and his wonderful wife that the owners were incredibly accommodating, and you could feel that hospitality throughout the entire evening. Everything felt effortless and welcoming -- the kind of place where people clearly care about creating a great night. And then... the party truly began. We had drag queens serving glamour and joy, music, laughter echoing through the room, and pizza delivered from the birthday boy's favorite local pizza spot that honestly deserves its own standing ovation. If you want to know where that pizza came from, drop a comment -- because it was outrageously good. By the end of the night I couldn't stop thinking: this place really is a Hidden Gem. I've been to a few, and most recently attended the "Taylor Swift: Bejeweled" experience. The space was decked out in all things Taylor, with every era clearly represented. Giant friendship bracelets hung from the ceilings and lined the walls, which was such a fun touch. And of course, there were plenty of photo ops with my close personal bff, Taylor herself! The drink menu was themed to match the eras, with tons of creative options. My friends and I tried several cocktails, along with a few NA options as well. I really appreciate that they offer non-alcoholic drinks as I've been cutting back on alcohol over the past few months, and it's nice to still have fun choices that actually taste good! A quick online search brought us to Speakeasy Parlor in Maryville. Forest impressions: We loved the non-descript feather sign, and the "no snitches" on the door was kinda funny. The 2 TVs inside detracted from it a little, too, and fast was more unfortunate. Still...My second impression: What a cute little place! The bar and the furniture are lovely and the cushions were so polish and soft. There were many great, comfortable places for groups of two to four to chat, and there's no loud music, meaning you can actually HEAR your friends when you chat with them. (At least, if the place isn't full; the floor was pretty crowded with tables, so I suspect it could still get loud. Third impressions were all about the drinks. My partner had a Spicy Cantaloupe Daiquiri. His opinion: The cantaloupe sugar rim was maybe the best part of the drink, though the tequila-based daiquiri was well-balanced, very tasty, and just the right amount of spicy. I had an Earl of Gray cocktail with a lavender sugar half-rim. It smelled SOOO good, and it tasted even better. To be honest, it may have been one of the best cocktails I've had ever.
