We randomly walked into The Moniker on a Wednesday night while we were in town for a food safety work conference... and ended up staying over four hours. Honestly, it was one of the most memorable dining and cocktail experiences I've ever had. From the moment we sat down, the owner took incredible care of us. He served us personally the entire night at the bar, walking us through each drink, explaining the ingredients, and sharing the thought process and craft behind everything he creates. You can tell immediately that this man is deeply passionate about what he does. It's rare to meet a restaurateur who is this invested in the art of the experience. Drinks we tried: * Devil in a Blue Dress * Trinidad Sour * Batida * Starry Night * 4 Moniker Specials: his curated choice pours based on your palate I wanted to drink through the entire beautifully thought out menu, but also didn't want to crawl back to the hotel. Every cocktail felt like a piece of art. The garnishes alone were incredible: sparkling glitter accents, cherries adorned with gold, agave leaves, even tiny crowns on baby chalices. Every glass looked like it belonged in a magazine. One of the coolest moments of the night was when he demonstrated his clarified milk process, showing us how he makes the vanilla-infused dusse mixture that goes into his Blackberry Cobbler Martini. Watching the level of technique and care that goes into these drinks was fascinating. And the food... wow. The Steak Medallion with chimichurri and potatoes was hands down one of the best meals I've ever had. Perfectly seasoned, beautifully seared, and melt-in-your-mouth tender. Absolute perfection. The atmosphere ties everything together. The decor is magical: elegant black and gold tones, textured details everywhere, regal and moody in the best possible way. You can tell that every inch of the space was thoughtfully designed and executed. The owner sat with us for long stretches of the evening, talking about cocktails, technique, inspiration, and the passion behind his craft. Experiences like that are rare. Honestly, before tonight I had no real interest in coming back to St. Louis. After finding this place? I'd come back just to spend another evening here. 10/10 recommend. Come experience this man's passion. (Pictures attached!)

Lovely newish bar on Washington Ave. Service was friendly and welcoming, and the cocktails were delicious. I particularly recommend the bartender's special (can't remember what they called it) where you give them some parameters and they create your cocktail on the fly. It was my birthday and I got the yummiest drink.

To sum up our evening and since we were in the area, my friend suggested The Moniker. I was eager to try as I knew it opened earlier in the year. Mind you, the time we went was 9:15 on Saturday, but it was pretty dead. So either we missed out on the fun, or it came after we left. When we walked in, there was some party/reunion going on close to the door, so we sat on the other side. The first thing that caught my eye was the gold. The aesthetics were everything; very eye-catching and appealing! Unfortunately, this is where things kind of took a nose dive. The bar wasn't busy at all. I'm not sure how many people they had in total working because I saw one guy making drinks and one girl who'd sometimes be behind the bar and then she wouldn't. Either way, it took a long time to get water or service for that matter. At one point we contemplated going next door to the cigar lounge. Thankfully, the guy making the drinks told the girl to help us. When she came over, she was less enthused. Yikes. I only got one drink, which was the Coquito. I was happy and surprised at the same time. This was the first time I've ever seen it on a menu in Stl or anywhere for that matter! While the service was ungodly slow in the beginning, the quality of the drinks more than made up for it. The taste alone was spot on and I couldn't have been more pleased. I can tell each drink was perfectly curated and well thought out when it came to the menu. I hope to come back soon and try more drinks/food.

Came here not long after they opened. We're familiar with downtown STL but had a little trouble finding it; it's in the lobby of an apartment building. We were the oldest ones in here, so we did feel like the 20 somethings were like "who brought their parents??" It was very cool and vibey. The bar was beautiful. The place wasn't too crowded (we were there ~5pm on a Friday). The cocktails came quickly and were well presented and very balanced. We ordered the beef tartar appetizer with fried wontons, which was outstanding. I'm not a tartar fan (the raw beef weirds me out), but I went out on a limb to try this. It was so good. We did use a coupon that had been offered as a promotion ($25 for $50 worth of food/drink). The beef tartar, a cocktail, and a double pour of Old Forester came up to just over $50. I did deduct a star. Why, you ask? Because they had a DJ playing music at a volume level of 11 out of 10. I'm not that old, and I can dig some cranking music, but we couldn't even talk to each other. Would I go back? I don't know. We enjoyed the food and drink, but felt a little out of place.

Downtown on Washington is what I'd call the main space. Moniker offers unique cocktails and a small menu of curated eats. Today, tried the House Shot, just so I could get served in the Mini Gold Gobblet. Today's Shot was a Passionfruit Lemondrop and it was well balanced with lemon tartness and sweet. As I overheard someone else order, I went with the Sweet Potato Pie Martini...I'm intrigued! It was delicious!! Tasted just like the pie, how did they do that!? It's served with a mini sweet potato tart dessert which was a nice treat. The cocktail wasn't too sweet, surprisingly so. Luved it so much, I had 2!

The Moniker = instant favorite. Chic, creative, and the kind of spot that makes you feel cooler just for being there. We kicked things off with the hummus (smooth, bright, and served with pita, bread, and carrots -- easy win). The shrimp and grits were rich and velvety, comfort food with a glam upgrade. The black-eyed pea bruschetta surprised me by being a total standout -- smoky, tangy, and piled high with flavor. And the Asian beef tartare with that golden yolk? Bold, gorgeous, and worth every bite. The cocktails though... wow. The Blue in the Face looked like modern art in a glass and tasted just as fresh and layered. The Tiramisu Espresso Martini was basically dessert in liquid form -- creamy, chocolatey, and dangerously easy to sip. The Jalisco Manhattan gave a smooth tequila-forward twist on a classic. And the Kettle Corn Martini? Smoky butterscotch vibes with an actual side of kettle corn. Who does that? (Answer: The Moniker, and it's brilliant.) The vibe is sleek and modern, but still warm and inviting -- perfect for date night, girls' night, or just spoiling yourself. This isn't bar food and drinks... it's an experience. Follow me on Facebook, Instagram, and Yelp for more STL eats, sips, and Champagne Campaign adventures.

The Moniker just dropped onto Washington Ave and I couldn't be more pumped. Old St. Louis hunter green took a bath in gold and that is the vibe. It's fancy without being annoying about it. I live super close so this spot is now my new personality. The mixologists were interactive and conversational. The Old Fashioned was everything you want in a classic. The glass alone deserves its own Instagram account. It was my entertainment for the hour. Ace was mad my glass was way better than his. Congrats on this new spot! I will be back soon for Din!

My best friend and I visited St. Louis for the first time and on our way back to our Airbnb. We stopped at this gem because it was on our list. It was beautiful in here the decor, the aesthetics, gorgeous it was pretty empty and we found out it just opened maybe four months ago. The staff was so friendly and knew the menu pretty well. We really came here form some drinks and ended up getting the salmon bites. The co-owner bartender Jordy really made it a memorable experience and we had a freaking blast!! I had a French 75 which was amazing. He broke down the menu to us that was a play on to an English wedding tradition, "something old, something new, something borrowed,..." you get it. We sampled the Key lime martini- DELICIOUS! Everything was amazing!! The salmon bites were delicious! We truly loved that experience here!! Highly highly highly recommend!!! 20/10

Another gem in the downtown area. Food was well crafted and delicious. Got the crab cakes and bruschetta (these were amazing and should definitely get, a twist on traditional bruschetta with a more soul food feel) which were both out of this world. Staff was friendly and multiple people came over to check on us, each willing to talk to us and ask how everything was. We could tell they really appreciated the customer support. Great place to go with a group of friends or a good date night as well. Yet another reason to head downtown in search of something new and exciting.

I had the best drink ever. The bartender Murph was amazing. Told him what I liked and he made this.

Went in on a Friday and found a parking spot right out front. Skipped the cigar bar and went into The Moniker heard a few good reviews on their drinks and they were right spot on drinks. The bartender Murph was amazing with his knowledge. Had a hummus board that was great. Black eyed peas hummus ,tapenade, cornbread and focaccia. The sweet potato pie martini was better than pie. Fresh cream and graham crackers separate from the sweet potato pie infused vanilla vodka. Would go for drinks any night. Music no TV's so you can talk.

We were in town for Tate McRae and was at the sushi place across the street for dinner and wanted an espresso martini before we went to the concert and saw this place. And oh my I wish we just came here for dinner and drinks! The bartender was the owner and gave us top tier customer service. We still were a bit hungry so we got the salmon patty cakes and oh my those were amazing. The chef makes everything from scratch right infront of you! The bartender made our drinks with love and they were so amazing. He tops them off right infront of you. The bartender made surprise shots for people sitting at the bar with these cute crowns on top. Highly recommend and wish this place was in my home town!

    Bartenders choice of specialty shots

We came here with our fam of 5 for some cocktails and had just a wonderful experience. The service was amazing, the presentation was amazing, ambience was nice, and the quality of cocktails was great. The coquito cocktail was a bit life changing I'm telling you. I would truly drink it as my dessert. Later, we wanted some specialty shots and the owner/bartender happily took on the creative initiative to bring us some amazing shots served in a bowl of crystals. It's so refreshing to have just a roundedly NICE experience somewhere.

My friends and I attended the opening of this restaurant this past weekend. We were able to see the ribbon-cutting amd it was so touching to be apart of history. The restaurant is so nice, the vibe is chill. All of the staff were so nice and welcoming. We were able to try a lot of different menu items and every food item was so delicious. We also tried about four drinks each and each one was so tasty. This is such an amazing restaurant, I cannot wait to return!

I literally live a 4 minute walk from here and have no idea why it took me this long to check it…read moreout. I took my boyfriend here last night for his 24th birthday celebration, and boy did it exceed every expectation. When we first arrived, we were taken aback by the waterfall feature at the front door. We genuinely thought we were at the wrong entrance. Turns out it was entirely intentional, and in the excitement of the evening, we forgot to ask about the story behind it. A fun little mystery to solve on our next visit. We arrived about 30 minutes early and were welcomed warmly from the moment we walked in. The staff gave us a lovely intimate table with a great view of the restaurant's eclectic decor and designs. The ambiance struck the perfect balance, lively and engaging without being so loud that we could not have a real conversation, which for my partner and me is genuinely one of the most important aspects of a dining experience. Since we both work incredibly busy schedules, this was not only a birthday celebration but our first proper date night in quite a while, and the atmosphere made it feel truly special. The staff even surprised us with a complimentary prosecco for the birthday, something we were absolutely not expecting and deeply appreciated. On the drinks side, although I am not personally a big drinker, my boyfriend loves exploring new spirits and cocktail combinations. The bartenders were fantastic: knowledgeable, approachable, and genuinely enthusiastic about their recommendations across both wines and spirits. They made the whole experience feel curated rather than transactional. Now, let me tell you about Jelly. Our server Jelly was, without question, the highlight of the entire evening, and that is saying a lot given how spectacular everything else was. I have a severe pineapple allergy, and if you dine out with food allergies, you know the usual routine. The server writes it down, maybe glances at it when the food arrives, and you spend the whole meal quietly hoping for the best. Jelly was on an entirely different level. She went completely above and beyond, meticulously checking every food option and wine pairing to ensure nothing contained pineapple and that there was zero risk of cross contamination. When a wine bottle did not clearly list its ingredients, she did not guess or assume. She looked it up on the internet right then and there to confirm it was safe for me. That gesture might sound simple, but for someone with a severe allergy, it is everything. It communicates that she genuinely cared about my wellbeing, not just about getting through her tables for the night. I felt completely taken care of, safe, and able to relax and enjoy myself without the anxiety that usually accompanies dining out with an allergy. Jelly, if you ever read this: thank you from the bottom of my heart. You are exceptional at what you do and an absolute asset to Blood & Sand. And now, the food, which was nothing short of breathtaking. From the presentation, to the pacing and timing, to the extraordinary depth of flavor on every plate, the food at Blood & Sand is spectacular and amazing in the truest sense of both words. My boyfriend and I had the 5 course tasting menu with wine pairings. We had originally hoped for the 10 course, but it was not being offered that evening. No matter, because the 5 course delivered more than enough to leave us completely floored. The evening opened with a palate initiator of carrots, goat cheese, and walnuts. I will be honest, I was not excited. Carrots and goat cheese are genuinely two of my least favorite foods on the planet. But I gave it a try and it was absolutely heavenly. A perfect encapsulation of what this kitchen does: it takes ingredients you think you know and transforms them into something you cannot stop thinking about. My absolute favorites of the evening were the tuna carpaccio, the wagyu flank steak, and the pierogis. Each one was cooked and composed to perfection. Everything melted in my mouth and left me wishing the courses would never end. My one constructive note is on the oyster course. I love oysters and eat them often, so I was genuinely looking forward to this one. The portion, two very small oysters with modest accompaniments of horseradish, a small salsa, and lemon, felt a little light even by tasting menu standards. I would love to see either four oysters at that size or two larger ones. It was gone so quickly and felt slightly out of step with the generosity of every other course. That small note aside, Blood & Sand delivered one of the most memorable dining experiences I have had in a long time. Every single person on that floor, from the bartenders to the host to the incredible Jelly, went above and beyond to make the night comfortable, fun, intimate, and genuinely special. We will absolutely be back, and next time I will not wait so long given that I practically live next door.

With a name like Blood and Sand, it has to be good. The name is a homage to the great Rudolph…read moreValentino silent movie, evoking exotic glamour. The decor is nice and upscale. Tables are not crammed together. You can talk to your dinner companions and hear their responses. We were seated in a banquette and it was nice. Service was friendly, knowledgeable, and not stuffy in the least. Our server was great. We both had the 10 course tasting menu and the wine pairing. The food was good. I would not say it is the best I have had, but it was very good and met expectation. Despite the emphasis on "these are TASTING portions," it was a lot of food. I ended up bringing my fish and steak courses home and I was overly full. The wine was nicely paired and delicious. Bring a designated driver! The tuna carpaccio was the stand out, lightly flavorful and acidic, it was exceptional. The salad and poached pear were the next favorites of our table. The down side is price. It is pricey. We knew that going in. $140 for the 10 courses and $100 for the wine, so $240 each or $480 for the two of us. Unfortunately, that doesn't include tax, credit card fee (!!), or the gratuity they say they will add to parties of 6 or more. We were a party of 2 and they added it. I don't mind the gratuity. The tax and credit card fee were epic and the bill was $700 ($694). Yikes. Definitely a special occasion place! The only other downside is they need a dress code. Several people were in jeans and dressed very casually. I am not suggesting it should be like in New Orleans where gentlemen must wear a sport coat...well maybe that wouldn't be so bad. Just please no jeans and sneakers. I will return to check out the late spring menu!

Hidden Gems in St. Louis -- and darling, the name is not exaggerating…read more I had the absolute pleasure of attending a birthday celebration here and let me tell you... this place is a vibe, a moment, and a whole sparkling experience. The space is intimate, stylish, and perfectly appointed -- the kind of place that feels like you've stumbled into a secret little jewel box in the city. It's cozy in the best possible way, with an atmosphere that invites laughter, celebration, and maybe just a little fabulous mischief. The bartenders? Absolute pros. Warm, welcoming, and clearly masters of their craft. Naturally, I ordered my classic gin and tonic, and it was perfection in a glass -- crisp, balanced, and exactly what a proper G&T should be. I heard from the birthday boy and his wonderful wife that the owners were incredibly accommodating, and you could feel that hospitality throughout the entire evening. Everything felt effortless and welcoming -- the kind of place where people clearly care about creating a great night. And then... the party truly began. We had drag queens serving glamour and joy, music, laughter echoing through the room, and pizza delivered from the birthday boy's favorite local pizza spot that honestly deserves its own standing ovation. If you want to know where that pizza came from, drop a comment -- because it was outrageously good. By the end of the night I couldn't stop thinking: this place really is a Hidden Gem. A perfect little pocket of St. Louis where good drinks, great people, and a bit of fabulous chaos come together. Sparkle-tastic. Gem-tastic. Pure joy. One of the biggest perks of Hidden Gems is their back room, which allows them to host events and fun pop-up experiences. I've been to a few, and most recently attended the "Taylor Swift: Bejeweled" experience. The space was decked out in all things Taylor, with every era clearly represented. Giant friendship bracelets hung from the ceilings and lined the walls, which was such a fun touch. And of course, there were plenty of photo ops with my close personal bff, Taylor herself! The drink menu was themed to match the eras, with tons of creative options. My friends and I tried several cocktails, along with a few NA options as well. I really appreciate that they offer non-alcoholic drinks as I've been cutting back on alcohol over the past few months, and it's nice to still have fun choices that actually taste good! The Mirrorball was easily my favorite drink of the night. It tasted just like an orange creamsicle and was served in a disco ball...so good and so fun.
