    Torta
    Doug G.

I am guilty of getting stuck eating the same things over and over again by being plain lazy and not leaving my area in Jefferson County. I LOVE LOVE, LOVE, good food so my wife and I made it a mission to try something new and venture into St. Louis and try a new place. Enter El Milagro Azteca. I am a Mexican food snob, having grown up in Dallas and Austin Tx where good authentic Mexican is very plentiful. This place was like going home and man oh man it did not disappoint. I started with a top-shelf Margarita ($20-a little expensive IMO) and immediately was highly impressed by the authentic flavor. The lime juice and simple syrup mix was marvelously balanced and not over-sweet. Suddenly $20 was worth it. They also add a cute hollow ice cube with Grand Marnier in it, designed to slowly melt and add to your drink. Classy. I ended up doing 2 of them and they were strong so again it was worth it. Food- My wife ordered the Tamales Verde. They looked great, but sadly they were dry inside. The flavor profile was still good, but this could use some work. I am aware that Tamales can be dry at times due to the corn husks but this was a little much. I found myself in a dilemma having to choose between the Biria Tacos, Steak Chilaquiles, and Carne Asada Torta. I ended up with the Torta and OH MY............ Surprisingly, they gave me a choice between fries, (normal) or a salad or 2 types of soup to go with it. I did the Tortilla Soup and was simply BLOWN AWAY. I was so shocked by how thoughtfully well they put this together. It was like no other Tortilla Soup I have ever had. I will come back here just for the Soup trust me you don't want to miss this one. The torta was big and had plenty of Steak and Cheese. It was divine in every way, especially when combined with the smokey salsa, I would definitely order this again. I will for SURE be back again to try the Birria Tacos and hopefully I can get my wife to order the Steak Chilaquiles to fill out the other stuff I didn't order yet. It was good to get out of my area and explore, this will be a frequent spot for us going forward. The service was also spot on as well.

My girlfriends and I came to El Milagro Azteca just to try their birria we've heard so much about from reviews. They have a very nice open patio here, but we sat inside closer to the bar. Our server was so very friendly, I wish I got her name but her service was amazing. We started with the chips and salsa. Highly recommend, their salsa has such a unique flavor from any other mexican restaurant I've been to, I'd honestly come back just for that. The birria is what we were most excited for, it was presented so beautifully on this wooden plate. The birria lived up to my expectations. It was juicy, tender, and most importantly packed with so much authentic flavor. The consume along with it was nice and fresh as well, it was drinkable, that's how I know the birria is good. I will totally be back here, highly recommend!

On this rainy Wednesday I decided to try El Milagro Azteca. It was so worth it. For appetizer I got the Elote and it was amazing! For my main dish I got the Enchiladas De Salsa Verde it was amazing as well. You could taste the freshness from the salsa. For dessert I couldn't pass up the flan. So I got the Flan Napolitano De Mazapán without almonds. The service was quick and the waitress was really nice. I really liked the ambiance and how big it was on the inside but still homey and comfy. They have outdoor seating so hopefully next time it won't be raining. Will definitely be back!

Went for a random lunch. This is one of the best Mexican restaurants I've been to in the city. Friendly fast service on a quiet day. The venue is large enough that I'm certain it is a fun destination on a weekend night. They have a lot of options on the menu and what we had was definitely above and beyond expectations.

The food was really good. My server Naz was super sweet and recommended a side of their sweet jalapeños with my order of tacos el chicharrones. They were a great addition. The chips are super thin and crispy. The salsas had great flavor!

Had lunch today and let me tell you... AMAZING!! Our server Frank was so attentive. He checked on us and made sure we had everything we needed. Also was very knowledgeable about the menu and we cracked a few jokes which is always nice. My marg was delicious and pretty strong. One was definitely enough for me. The birria was some of the best I've had in a long time. Full of flavor and meaty! They have happy hour pricing staring at 2 pm! Stop by!

Right past the corner of Southwest and Kingshighway. Great if you can snag a street spot right in front which I was lucky enough to do today. Otherwise, there is a parking lot off to the side. I just popped in to order some chips and salsa to go. The chips are thin and crispy, so good! The chips come with two containers of salsa, one green and one red. I like both but the red is my favorite, with a nice smokey flavor. Very reasonable on price. I ordered with the hostess right there at the entrance and she took care of ringing me up and getting my order when it was done. Quick and friendly! I have to go back and eat in again, soon. Taquitos Azteca are really good, and I want to try the smoked salmon dish. They have a bar side, a side with just tables, and a great patio. Friendly staff and great food,

Zero stars if I could! 1 out of 7 actually liked their food. Horrible experience fo almost $250! Ordered 2 starters: chips & salsa since they're not free & the queso dip with added chorizo. For our 7 dishes we ordered: veggie nachos, quesa birria tacos, shrimp fajitas, carne asada salad, piña rellena, pollo ala parrilla, & a steak chimichanga. The starter chips & salsa were green salsa not red. This should be disclosed as people generally think of red. I like tomatillo, but many find it too spicy as the case at our table. We asked for red instead after stating the green was too spicy. They brought a red, but most still found it spicy. I thought it had too much cilantro & too thin. instead. We also got charged for the red which the waitress didn't tell us. I don't mind paying, but prefer to know ahead. The volcano dip was ok but not great for the cost. We asked to have chorizo added, but instead they put 1-2 ounces into a little lemon bowl and charged $6 more making it almost $19 for a dip. Here's my review of the entrees: 1) veggie nachos-advertised with mushrooms & jalapeños that we asked to be removed. It came correct except it had broccoli on it which is odd for nachos & wasn't listed on the menu. The broccoli was cold & crunchy. The same red salsa on the chips was used for the nachos. My daughter was one who found it too spicy so now her entree was spicy. She tried her best to consume parts of it, but gave up. We told the waitress to see about something else but her English was broken so nothing worked out. 2) quesa birria tacos- my daughter LOVES anything birria & was really let down. Said they tasted like frozen taquitos with old fryer oil & dried out meat. She said the birria sauce was lacking beef flavor. 3) Shrimp fajitas- okay with the exception of the chewy overcooked shrimp. Nothing to brag about as the fajitas were even lacking the normal seasoning that comes to mind. 4) Carne Asada Salad- only entree that looked & tasted good per my dad. The steak was nicely seasoned. I actually looked at this item at first but opted to try one of their signature dishes instead & boy did I regret that later. 5) Pina Rellena- also known as their stuffed seafood pineapple. This is the dish I ordered that was pictured on their menu as it looked amazing & the combination of the ingredients sounded amazing. I overheard a man at the table behind us order it after I got mine & wanted so badly to tell him not to get it but knew it wasn't my place. When it arrived it looked just like the picture, but it didn't right. The rice was mushy, it was missing pineapple pieces or even pineapple juice. It's like they cut the pineapple in half, scooped it out, stuffed it with rice & seafood & threw away the pineapple. The rice should've been infused with the juices of the pineapple. The seafood stuffed into it was skimpy & what was there was chewy & overcooked with no seasoning. It was supposed to have crab, scallops & shrimp. I never found one scallop & the crab was imitation crab flakes that were shredded up so finely it was barely noticeable. The shrimp was chewy & overcooked like the shrimp fajitas. There was supposed to be a Cajun aioli & Mexican cheese on it, but I tasted nothing Cajun. I could taste cheese but it reminded me of velvetta mixed into the mushy rice. I ate about 3-4 bites of it & told the waitress how bland it was & how bad the seafood was. She just took it away never offering anything else nor did she do anything with the bill. 6) Pollo ala parrilla- my spouse orders this often & wasn't wowed. The chicken & chorizo were both dry. He liked the queso poured over the top. The side of beans & rice were not appealing. He said their approach to beans isn't prepared like normal refried beans. They weren black beans not pinto that were half boiled, half smashed & his rice was mushy too. 7) Steak chimichanga - My mom's typical go to. The steak wasn't steak it was ground beef. She expected it to be deep fried with queso cheese over the top, but it arrived with just a pinch of deep fryer to it without cheese on it. When she cut it open you could clearly see the ground meat & her rice was also mushy. It had nothing else in it that was advertised. She had the same sides that my spouse had (rice & beans) and also did not understand the texture of the beans. She also said the fryer oil tasted old. We tried our best to explain things to the waitress but she wasn't grasping it. We felt badly telling them so many things tasted bad or bland, but it was the truth. My entire family LOVES good Mexican food & when we were looking for a place to go that we felt everyone could find something we appreciate it. Sadly, we left disappointed and hungry. We also used the restrooms (2 different ones) while there & we each commented on how dirty they were. One of the restrooms was right off the kitchen so you could see right into it. After one glance at the kitchen I figured out why the food was so bad. That kitchen was filthy!

The rib appetizer was phenomenal along with the chicken tacos. Unfortunately the Tres Leche is made with almond flour with NO warning. Typically these are made with flour. I did give the waiter specifics that I can't have any almonds or nuts as I have a sensitivity. Within 20 minutes I was in an attack. On top of that, later that evening I was very sick and believe the Birra tacos were to blame. We called the next day to confirm, and in fact almond flour is in the Tres Leche no warning on the menu! No warning from waitress. Makes me very sad as the flavors were un real here.

Tried this restaurant during happy hour and it was well worth it! You get complimentary chips & salsa only during happy hour with additional $ off appetizers & street tacos. The queso smothering the chimichanga was absolutely delicious. Very hearty and we were stuffed halfway through. Street tacos had so many different options and we were in between the pollo or pork belly. Went with the pollo and it did not disappoint! Delish grilled onions with aioli. Lots of room for bigger parties or kids.

The quesa birria tacos are delectable! El Milagro is definitely a place I'll be going back to just for the birria comsomé. We also had the elote (delicious!) and bistek alambre. This was a great choice for my Mexican food loving husband's birthday dinner, thank you for having us!

Visiting from San Antonio and took a flyer on this place. Totally legit!! Authentic, flavorful and reasonably priced. Tried both salsas, birria and carne asada. All were excellent! Server and other wait staff were very pleasant and timely. Loved the casual atmosphere without the typical cartoonish looking decor. Very tastefully appointed.

We were driving through St.Louis and decided to order to go because this place has the best Chimichangas EVER! We were not disappointed! Not only was the hostess so helpful in getting our order ready for us (in the estimated time I told her we would be there by) but everything was hot, so delicious and packed nicely. She greeted me warmly, gave me my food bag and I paid at the bar; while my husband and kid did a quick bathroom run. When I tell you this place is bomb! Please believe me! It's worth every penny. We were on our way home from Oklahoma and this was our half way point. It's so conveniently located off the freeway and although parking can be tricky we recommend this place 1000%! Food is sooo good! My husband and I had the steak chimi and my son got the chicken and we were both wowed by how good it was. My son describe it as "not your regular shredded bland chicken but bit size chicken that is so juicy and full of spice and flavor". The meal itself is very filling and we ate half and were able to eat the leftovers later. Love this restaurant so much and can't wait to go back next year!

Once we were seated our server was a little cold - but we never waited for anything and she kept our drinks full so it's hard to criticize too much - she just could've had better "table side manner". The food menu is relatively small - but good. The food my party had was well prepared. Good drink and beer menu and an adequate draft selection - although the first two beers I asked for were no longer in stock so I ended up going with a domestic. I tried the Pretty in Pink cocktail, which was well-balanced and enjoyable, though the pour felt a bit light for a martini. Normally one martini gives me a slight buzz, but that wasn't the case here. We started with the onion rings as an appetizer. The portion size was generous, and they were tasty overall, though they had a tangy seasoning dusted on top that seemed a little odd at first. Surprisingly, it still worked. I ordered the Good Burger, and it was honestly one of the most flavorful smash burgers I've ever had. I was genuinely impressed. I got the sauce on the side since it also came with the onion rings, and unfortunately, I wasn't a fan of it -- it was a bit runny and lacked flavor.
