Lots of seating both in and out. Service was helpful, prompt and courteous. The food was typical of this type of menu. Very good selection of appetizers, salads, à la carte items, and entrees. Prices easy on the wallet. Presentation nice and portions ample. Parking is a bit creative but not impossible.
We originally stopped in for the soft serve margaritas. Unfortunately, they were unavailable during our visit. But, the Cadillac margarita quickly made up for any disappointment. I have never been one to shy away from chips and dip. I'm not usually a fan of restaurant salsa it's always lacking something or soupy. The El Cartin salsa was surprisingly good. We also ordered the queso and bean dip which was fantastic. The chips are thin and crispy but substantial enough to hold up for dipping. We sat out on their patio to enjoy the weather. The space is large with plenty of comfortable seating. The inside is equally as large. They are perfect for accommodating a large group. The food was definitely above average. I ordered the enchiladas suizas with queso and chicken. They were perfect. The rice and beans are also above board. We ordered tacos, fajitas, and a quesadilla. The food was delicious, and the portions, generous. All in all a good visit. I will be returning soon to cross the soft serve margaritas off my summer bucket list!
The food here was very good. Pretty standard Americanized Mexican food. The cheese dip and salsa are excellent! Also really enjoyed the Cadillac margarita. Another benefit is that the restaurant is huge and has a nice patio so can fit a lot of people. Nothing really special compared to most other similar restaurants in town but still was great and I would go back.
This place came highly recommended. I will tell you you won't be disappointed. This is a vibe. It was also loud. I enjoyed everything. The server was great. She checked on us often. She made sure every need or want was met. The food was very good. I had the Quesadilla Birria . There was a huge portion of shredded beef on it. The pickled onions took it to another level. The chips and salsa was good. There's patio seating. They IFA soccer games were playing on the large screen TVs. The have some nice murals decorating the walls. I am impressed. You have got to try this place.
El Catrin! I discovered this place about 3 years ago when moving to the area. I live about 5 minutes away and I'm so fortunate. I love Mexican food and if you know me, you know I could eat this everyday if I had the chance. I've been to El Catrin easily over 10 times and every time the food, drinks, service and the just the vibe are amazing. Love the outdoor seating during the spring and summer time as well. If you are ever in the area, please check them out!
Always excellent food and service at El Catrin. Great place for groups; there were 12 of us for dinner, and everyone enjoyed.
El Catrin is my husband and my favorite Mexican restaurant. The food is so good and the service is excellent. We love to sit outside but way too cold on this winter day. I ordered the fajita quesadilla with chicken. It comes with a side of rice and the guacamole salad for toppings. My husband got the soup. Complimentary warm tortilla chips and salsa. We both took half our food home. Love this place!
In STL we are blessed with many Mexican restaurant, far and wide some are good for chips, some good for salsa, some have a special meal that will keep you coming back. This is my go-to spot. To the point that the servers know my partner and me. I had the opportunity to share my love for El Catrin with a new friend and ordered something different. This time I got a buffalo chicken quesadilla and we had queso fundido for the table. This was so much food I was for sure eating the quesadilla for lunch the next day. Our usual order is a doble parrillada, and I will say, my partner is a big eater. We order this specifically so he can have leftovers for the next day, it never disappoints. All of the fajita options are very good, but the parrillada specifically, has beef, chorizo, cactus, carnitas, chicken, shrimp, and I might still be missing a protein, the normal veggies/onions of course with a big plate of rice, beans and pico included. If you are looking for a great Tex Mex spot, this should be yours.
It was really windy and I don't know why it was so windy upstairs blue napkins everywhere the waitress was quick after we got our food, but the kitchen was slow. It was a nice day, spelt it with the kids and the pastor. The kids was really wanting to eat tacos. The music was really loud and explicit. I wish they would have more rated pg music.
Third visit to El Catrin and boy is it tasty! I had the Caldo de Pollo (chicken soup) and it was chock full of vegetables and shredded chicken. Enough soup leftovers to take home. My boyfriend had Tacos el Pastor (pork tacos) and three arrived with a side dish of refried beans and rice. He gave me one taco and it was delicious, seasoned perfectly. Our waiter was attentive and friendly. Ambiance is fun and high energy with two large star piñatas in room we ate in and a very pretty mural on outside of the building too.
This place is delicious and so cute! I was so sad that it was cooler outside because I would have loved to have sat on the patio. We had a party of 3 and were seated in the main entrance area. I ordered the Catrin Signature Margarita. It's made with fresh lime juice and is quite strong. It also is served in a cute aesthetic glass- love the details. I ordered the fajita tres amigos which game with chicken, steak, and shrimp. I usually get steak but I switched it up, I'm happy I did! The meat was super tender and prepared really well. Lots of flavor. It came with your traditional side options like rice, beans, guac, sour cream, and pico. I would for sure come back!!
I've been here quite a few times. It's very close to my house. Ive had some issues here and there, but I am not one to write bad reviews on small businesses unless there is a sanitation or behavior issue. And even then, it has to be pretty bad because I support small businesses. I was the first customer to arrive for lunch when they opened. Even though there were no other customers in the restaurant, I was seated in the back by the kitchen door. Not ideal for anyone. Usually, those seats are reserved for the last people in the door. I wasn't very hungry so I ordered some queso and an ala carte chicken enchilada. I did not want an entrée or combo order so I pointed to the menu to show my server what I intended to order. I told him chicken enchilada, and then he went to the bar 10 feet from me and told another server who I believe he was training "chicken enchilada". However, when the order arrived, it was a cheese enchilada entrée with rice and beans. I explained that this is not what I ordered and he gave me a dirty look and stormed over to the bar a few feet from me and slammed the plate into the trashcan in front of me. Then he busted through the kitchen door and yelled in the kitchen. It was Spanish and he knew I would hear it. I don't know exactly what he said, but it was about me and it was not a compliment. He brought the enchilada.I was afraid to eat it because of how he was acting out, but I did and I hope that nothing bad was done to it. He did not say a word to me for the rest of the service. He just delivered my enchilada without looking at me and delivered my bill without looking at me and he collected my credit card without looking at me. I don't care how close this restaurant is to my house. If this is man, who is in a position of training others is working at this restaurant I will not be back. I understand that restaurant employees tend to come and go, but I don't believe that this man is new here or leaving anytime soon. Thanks for one of the worst services i have had in years. Went for lunch and got pastor tacos and a frozen raspberry margarita. We also had hot wings, fries and queso dip. It was all pretty good. The wings were crispy, the fries were good, tacos were really good. I really liked the pickled red onions with it and margarita was fantastic. Service was good and the food came out quickly. We stopped in here on our way downtown. There is street parking and a small lot. The lot gets tight for bigger cars. They have indoor and outdoor seating. We opted for inside due to the heat but the patio looks very inviting. We were seated right away and the chips & salsa started flowing immediately. The menu is pretty big. They aren't a fan on substituting but were nice about it. I got shrimp tacos and they were delicious. Prices are reasonable. Definitely will stop by again. read more

Thursday dinner club meets again! There were 16 of us this time around. We were the last to arrive and joined our large group at a long table in the larger dining area. They had some construction happening on the patio, not sure what is happening but sure it will be a great outside seating choice once it is complete. Although our check indicated Macarena was our server, there were plenty of other staff helping out. They didn't miss a beat! They kept chips and salsa filled, drinks replenished in a timely manner, and food served efficiently for all of us. I am still trying to make better choices and went with Tortilla Soup and Mexican Salad. The soup had a good flavor it was creamier than I expected but good. I would skip the Mexican salad next time, it had rice, beans, Pico, shredded lettuce, sour cream, and guacamole. It was a lot but I wanted more guacamole and should have just ordered that on its own. One of my companions got the Veracruz Special and it looked really good! I really love the chips, they are thin and crispy and hard to stop eating them. Nice resturant with very kind servers and fast service. The food was really good and they give good portions, the staff sang fro a couple of birthdays. The resturant is bigger than it looks and has a nice patio in the summer. Parking can be a bit challenging. The Margaritas are tasty as well read more

I've been wanting to try El Catrin for a long time now! Definitely did not disappoint. If you're in the area- stop by! I just happened to stop by on Margarita day!! Of course I got a jalapeño margarita & it was delish. For dinner I got the chicken chimichanga. No complaints. Came out hot & fast!! Our waitress was super attentive, she was great! Fun atmosphere, great decorations & the paintings on the wall were beautiful!! Would come back Forsure. read more
Good, not great. My boyfriend described everything as safe. Would return for what we know would be good Tex Mex. I really liked the chips and the salsa was ok. It needed some heat but overall I enjoy a traditional salsa. They bring a bottle of salsa to the table so you don't run out. The margarita was good, not that strong. The guacamole was very good. The mushroom quesadilla was delicious. Big juicy mushrooms with lots of cheese. My boyfriend liked his shrimp tacos. No complaints with the food. Mexican and Tex Mex are our favs so we go to many different restaurants and Catrin is just okay. The restaurant is big with lots of TVs. Nice bar. Next time I'd like to sit at the bar. read more
Another really good Mexican restaurant in St. Louis. This is the sister restaurant to la Catrina on Hampton and it's just as good. The service was great. I also like the space - open, clean and well lit. I started with a house lime margarita and it was good. The chips were served warm and each person got their own salsa bowl. This was my first time trying this place after my date said a co-worker recommended it. I'm glad they did because this place has really good service and the food is great. When we entered the restaurant we were seated immediately and our waitress Jasmine greeted us and immediately brought water to the table. She was attentive and always made an effort to check in on us. I ordered taquitos ( chicken and beef), and a side dish of rice. My date ordered the enchilada supreme and iced tea. The food and drinks were all great. The restaurant is very clean and they have TVs on the walls and music playing in the background. I will note that this is the cleanest restroom I've ever seen in any restaurant. Will be back to try something else on the menu when I'm in the neighborhood. Can't wait! :) read more

As a self-proclaimed Mexican connoisseur, I was confused why I hadn't even heard of this place when some friends suggested it. I was even more confused when I realized they have tons of seating, a lovely patio, margarita towers and delicious food. Highlights: some of the best fish tacos I've had in St. Louis, definitely the best shrimp fajita nachos I've had in St. Louis, and the Margarita tower is a steal! We got more than a dozen drinks out of it. Also, our party annoyingly arrived at very different times and the staff was really patient about it. I'll be back soon! read more

We mistakenly wanted Mexican today. We did not think ahead of time about it being Cinco de Mayo. We tried this restaurant once before and enjoyed the food greatly. Today did not disappoint. Thankfully the weather was accommodating and we were able to sit outside. Even outside it was pretty noisy, however, as every table was fill and there was music. Inside it was even louder, so we were happy to be on the patio. My husband was disappointed that they only had limited food offerings today, but he was satisfied with his burrito selection. I greatly enjoyed the Tres Amigos Fajita. The onion and sweet peppers that were grilled with the chicken, beef steak and shrimp were beautiful browned and delicious. They do something different with their refried beans that I like. The rice was just ok. On our previous visit we sampled the Alhambre and bean soup. Both were delicious. Unfortunately, neither were available on todays menu. I like this place and believe it will be added to our "regular restaurant rotation " list. read more

Obsessed with this place. I believe I heard that La Catrina is the sister restaurant to this and this place did not disappoint! Honestly I think I like El Catrin better than La Catrina with the food, service, and space :P We came right when they opened on a Tuesday, and sat outside on their patio. Patio was very spacious, each table had an umbrella and they also had booths I believe with an awning. Food was delish and service was prompt! Needless to say, I will definitely be a repeat customer and will be bringing more friends here from now on! read more

Absolutely delicious, great service and ready super quick. It was piping hot when I arrived to pick it up. There is a to go container fee, but worth it since prices are fair to start off with. We'll be back! read more
