Quesabrava

In STL we are blessed with many Mexican restaurant, far and wide some are good for chips, some good for salsa, some have a special meal that will keep you coming back. This is my go-to spot. To the point that the servers know my partner and me. I had the opportunity to share my love for El Catrin with a new friend and ordered something different. This time I got a buffalo chicken quesadilla and we had queso fundido for the table. This was so much food I was for sure eating the quesadilla for lunch the next day. Our usual order is a doble parrillada, and I will say, my partner is a big eater. We order this specifically so he can have leftovers for the next day, it never disappoints. All of the fajita options are very good, but the parrillada specifically, has beef, chorizo, cactus, carnitas, chicken, shrimp, and I might still be missing a protein, the normal veggies/onions of course with a big plate of rice, beans and pico included. If you are looking for a great Tex Mex spot, this should be yours.

It was really windy and I don't know why it was so windy upstairs blue napkins everywhere the waitress was quick after we got our food, but the kitchen was slow. It was a nice day, spelt it with the kids and the pastor. The kids was really wanting to eat tacos. The music was really loud and explicit. I wish they would have more rated pg music.

Third visit to El Catrin and boy is it tasty! I had the Caldo de Pollo (chicken soup) and it was chock full of vegetables and shredded chicken. Enough soup leftovers to take home. My boyfriend had Tacos el Pastor (pork tacos) and three arrived with a side dish of refried beans and rice. He gave me one taco and it was delicious, seasoned perfectly. Our waiter was attentive and friendly. Ambiance is fun and high energy with two large star piñatas in room we ate in and a very pretty mural on outside of the building too.

This place is delicious and so cute! I was so sad that it was cooler outside because I would have loved to have sat on the patio. We had a party of 3 and were seated in the main entrance area. I ordered the Catrin Signature Margarita. It's made with fresh lime juice and is quite strong. It also is served in a cute aesthetic glass- love the details. I ordered the fajita tres amigos which game with chicken, steak, and shrimp. I usually get steak but I switched it up, I'm happy I did! The meat was super tender and prepared really well. Lots of flavor. It came with your traditional side options like rice, beans, guac, sour cream, and pico. I would for sure come back!!

I've been here quite a few times. It's very close to my house. Ive had some issues here and there, but I am not one to write bad reviews on small businesses unless there is a sanitation or behavior issue. And even then, it has to be pretty bad because I support small businesses. I was the first customer to arrive for lunch when they opened. Even though there were no other customers in the restaurant, I was seated in the back by the kitchen door. Not ideal for anyone. Usually, those seats are reserved for the last people in the door. I wasn't very hungry so I ordered some queso and an ala carte chicken enchilada. I did not want an entrée or combo order so I pointed to the menu to show my server what I intended to order. I told him chicken enchilada, and then he went to the bar 10 feet from me and told another server who I believe he was training "chicken enchilada". However, when the order arrived, it was a cheese enchilada entrée with rice and beans. I explained that this is not what I ordered and he gave me a dirty look and stormed over to the bar a few feet from me and slammed the plate into the trashcan in front of me. Then he busted through the kitchen door and yelled in the kitchen. It was Spanish and he knew I would hear it. I don't know exactly what he said, but it was about me and it was not a compliment. He brought the enchilada.I was afraid to eat it because of how he was acting out, but I did and I hope that nothing bad was done to it. He did not say a word to me for the rest of the service. He just delivered my enchilada without looking at me and delivered my bill without looking at me and he collected my credit card without looking at me. I don't care how close this restaurant is to my house. If this is man, who is in a position of training others is working at this restaurant I will not be back. I understand that restaurant employees tend to come and go, but I don't believe that this man is new here or leaving anytime soon. Thanks for one of the worst services i have had in years. Read my reviews . You will see that I almost never write a bad one . But this was warranted. This bad server needs to get control of his temper! And accept responsibility for not paying attention. By the way, I was the very first person to write a review of their restaurant La Catrina and it was a good review. I was also the very first person to write a review on this restaurant. It was also a good review.

Nice resturant with very kind servers and fast service. The food was really good and they give good portions, the staff sang fro a couple of birthdays. The resturant is bigger than it looks and has a nice patio in the summer. Parking can be a bit challenging. The Margaritas are tasty as well

I've been wanting to try El Catrin for a long time now! Definitely did not disappoint. If you're in the area- stop by! I just happened to stop by on Margarita day!! Of course I got a jalapeño margarita & it was delish. For dinner I got the chicken chimichanga. No complaints. Came out hot & fast!! Our waitress was super attentive, she was great! Fun atmosphere, great decorations & the paintings on the wall were beautiful!! Would come back Forsure.

Chips and Salsa

Good, not great. My boyfriend described everything as safe. Would return for what we know would be good Tex Mex. I really liked the chips and the salsa was ok. It needed some heat but overall I enjoy a traditional salsa. They bring a bottle of salsa to the table so you don't run out. The margarita was good, not that strong. The guacamole was very good. The mushroom quesadilla was delicious. Big juicy mushrooms with lots of cheese. My boyfriend liked his shrimp tacos. No complaints with the food. Mexican and Tex Mex are our favs so we go to many different restaurants and Catrin is just okay. The restaurant is big with lots of TVs. Nice bar. Next time I'd like to sit at the bar.

Warm chips.

Another really good Mexican restaurant in St. Louis. This is the sister restaurant to la Catrina on Hampton and it's just as good. The service was great. I also like the space - open, clean and well lit. I started with a house lime margarita and it was good. The chips were served warm and each person got their own salsa bowl. For dinner I had the enchiladas suizas and they had a good flavor. I also had a side of Mexican rice

The staff was very friendly and helpful, suggesting some of their favorite items. I love the vibe of the restaurant. It's just very aesthetically pleasing and a cute space overall. I also appreciate their dedicated parking lot as sometimes parking in the Grove can be difficult to find, especially on busier days. I tried their mushroom fried rice and as someone who is not the biggest mushroom lover. I really enjoyed it! They have a great selection of cocktails, as well as some tasty apps before your meal. I look forward to coming back in the future!

I tried the Pretty in Pink cocktail, which was well-balanced and enjoyable, though the pour felt a bit light for a martini. Normally one martini gives me a slight buzz, but that wasn't the case here. We started with the onion rings as an appetizer. The portion size was generous, and they were tasty overall, though they had a tangy seasoning dusted on top that seemed a little odd at first. Surprisingly, it still worked. I ordered the Good Burger, and it was honestly one of the most flavorful smash burgers I've ever had. I was genuinely impressed. I got the sauce on the side since it also came with the onion rings, and unfortunately, I wasn't a fan of it -- it was a bit runny and lacked flavor. My friend ordered the vegan burger and absolutely loved it. The inside of the restaurant was cute and had a great atmosphere, though there was an unusual smell indoors, so I was very thankful we were able to grab one of the outdoor tables. Outdoor seating is pretty limited, though, so keep that in mind if you prefer sitting outside.

The smash burgers were good. About half of the fries were good and the rest were overcooked. The cocktails were good! Our service could have been a little better. Our server was somewhat efficient. She wasn't overly friendly or attentive. Maybe they were short staffed but I don't know. I just know that service was lacking. There are many things to look at on the walls! I don't get down to Cherokee Street that much so a lot of new places come and go without me knowing…read moreabout it. 'ssippi is a new(ish) wine bar set towards the western end of the collection of bars, restaurants, and shops that are the heart of the strip. The inside has a large wrap about bar and some limited seating. There is a very good selection of wine and mixed drinks and an okay selection of beer. The prices are reasonable. There is a very limited food menu which largely consists of snacks rather than proper entrees. So this is a great pre/post drink spot rather than somewhere you would spend an evening. The bartenders were fine. Nothing stood out either in a good or bad way. The mixed drink my wife had was very good. The orange wine I had was good, a bit on the dry side but overall no complaints from either of us. Without a highlight of the spot is the large patio. It is mostly taken up by large bench style seating. So you have to be okay sitting next to strangers. I actually enjoy these types of settings and I ended up chatting up the group to our right. There are a couple tables but they are few and far between. There are some overhead canopies and lights, and there was a nice vibe and energy. I was there and it was crowded. I really enjoyed it. Just two additional things to note. The bathroom line was very long. It must only be one stall. The entire time I was there it was a dozen people deep. The only other downside is that my wife and I felt old. The vibe on a late(ish) Saturday night was mainly 20 year olds. If I was in grad school or a recent graduate I would absolutely adore this place. Even if your 30s this probably is a good vibe. Once you hit 40 though you may feel a bit out of place on busy nights (or it will make you feel young again!)

I came for a HH and enjoyed three different cocktails. My first was a Gold Rush. It's basically a Bees Knees with Vodka instead of Gin. It was light and refreshing, making it a great start. The second cocktail was one of my all-time favorites, a Old Fashioned. I can honestly say, it was one of the best, if not the absolute best one I have ever had. I finished the HH with a Espresso Martini. It was a good ending to my HH. They use a Cold Brew instead of true espresso, so it had a milder coffee taste. My nosh while drinking was a, Jalapeño Popper Dip. It was okay, in my opinion, it did not fit the description on the menu. Especially, the type of chips described. My friend ordered, The Small Board and it was fantastic and a good value. Our bartenders were friendly and as I stated earlier, they are masters of their skill. What stopped them from getting a 5 Star review, is simple. They do not offer a Martini on their Happy Hour Menu. I'm a Martini Man and that disappointed me, but it wont keep me away, it just keeps them short of 5 Stars.

Hidden Gems in St. Louis -- and darling, the name is not exaggerating…read more I had the absolute pleasure of attending a birthday celebration here and let me tell you... this place is a vibe, a moment, and a whole sparkling experience. The space is intimate, stylish, and perfectly appointed -- the kind of place that feels like you've stumbled into a secret little jewel box in the city. It's cozy in the best possible way, with an atmosphere that invites laughter, celebration, and maybe just a little fabulous mischief. The bartenders? Absolute pros. Warm, welcoming, and clearly masters of their craft. Naturally, I ordered my classic gin and tonic, and it was perfection in a glass -- crisp, balanced, and exactly what a proper G&T should be. I heard from the birthday boy and his wonderful wife that the owners were incredibly accommodating, and you could feel that hospitality throughout the entire evening. Everything felt effortless and welcoming -- the kind of place where people clearly care about creating a great night. And then... the party truly began. We had drag queens serving glamour and joy, music, laughter echoing through the room, and pizza delivered from the birthday boy's favorite local pizza spot that honestly deserves its own standing ovation. If you want to know where that pizza came from, drop a comment -- because it was outrageously good. By the end of the night I couldn't stop thinking: this place really is a Hidden Gem. A perfect little pocket of St. Louis where good drinks, great people, and a bit of fabulous chaos come together. Sparkle-tastic. Gem-tastic. Pure joy. The upstairs lounge is perfect if you want to hang out with friends or just take a break and rest your feet for a bit. I absolutely love that space and how comfy it is. One of the biggest perks of Hidden Gems is their back room, which allows them to host events and fun pop-up experiences. I've been to a few, and most recently attended the "Taylor Swift: Bejeweled" experience. The space was decked out in all things Taylor, with every era clearly represented. Giant friendship bracelets hung from the ceilings and lined the walls, which was such a fun touch. And of course, there were plenty of photo ops with my close personal bff, Taylor herself! The drink menu was themed to match the eras, with tons of creative options. My friends and I tried several cocktails, along with a few NA options as well. I really appreciate that they offer non-alcoholic drinks as I've been cutting back on alcohol over the past few months, and it's nice to still have fun choices that actually taste good! The Mirrorball was easily my favorite drink of the night. It tasted just like an orange creamsicle and was served in a disco ball...so good and so fun. My last drink of the night was "So Long London," which was almost like a dessert in a glass. Highly recommend ending your night with that one!
