Grilled banana and strawberries with caramel ala mode
    Maggie H.

I went to Diego's by myself a couple of months ago after I went shoe shopping at Big River, which is on the same block. Diego's is in the old Momo's space. I went a little crazy and had chips and salsa, a margarita with hibiscus, a grilled banana and strawberries with caramel ala mode, plus loaded Mexican street fries. Everything was great and now that I've written the review, I'm ready to return!

Diego's Cantina y Cocina lit our queso on fire, and I've never felt more seen. This was stop #1 on our Tour de Tacos--a highly scientific, once-a-month mission to try all the best Mexican spots in STL--and Diego's kicked things off with serious flavor and just the right amount of chaos. We sat inside where the margaritas were flowing and the A/C was doing the Lord's work. Service was fast, friendly, and fun. The moment of the night? The queso flameado arriving tableside... in flames. You already know we shouted "Opa!" in honor of the Greek spot that used to be in that space (shoutout to Momos). Here's the rundown: - Queso flameado: Hot, smoky, melty, and dramatic. Basically me in appetizer form. - Loaded bean dip: So good it needs a warning label. - Costra de pollo: Bold, crispy, packed with flavor. - Tres leches: Sweet, soft, and swimming in syrupy bliss. - Hibiscus margaritas: Light, floral, and way too easy to drink. Everyone at our table was raving--loudly. There were happy noises. There were empty plates. There were no regrets. Whether you're planning a girls' night, date night, or just want to watch your cheese go up in flames in the best possible way--go to Diego's. And if you like strong food opinions, stronger cocktails, and a little sass with your salsa? Follow me. This taco tour is just getting warmed up. #TheSassySaint #FlamingAndFabulous

Small Mexican Street Fries, Taste great!
    Jennifer C.

1st visit here! Mexican Street Fries and Side Salad with Chipotle Caesar. Rounded out with a Glass of wine. Those fries are awesome!! Fresh cut fries, cooked to the right level of crispness which avoided them feom becoming too soggy under the queso. These are rich because the queso and the shredded cheese have a great depth to them, but the fresh onion, tomato and cilantro offer a nice acidic balance. I got the small size but could easily enjoy the large by myself as the whole meal. The Salad was super fresh! 3 slices of avocado in addition to the other ingredients and already tossed in the dressing. Dressing was just enough for flavor while it didn't detract from the lightness of the salad. Sat at the bar and the staff were friendly and attentive. I could easily have those fries weekly! Lol

We tried out Diego's and had a really nice experience overall! The service was great. Our server was super friendly and attentive. We missed the happy hour cut-off by just a few minutes, but they still honored the pricing, which we really appreciated! The ambiance of the restaurant is bright & full of greenery which I really enjoyed. The food and drinks were solid. The pozole soup was flavorful, came out hot, and the portion size was generous. Spicy margaritas were super refreshing and had a great kick. The chips were clearly freshly made, and the salsa had the perfect amount of spice--not too mild, not too overwhelming. Once the bill came, the charges felt a little steep. For a small pozole, half-priced happy hour nachos, two spicy margs, and two Topo Chicos, we ended up at $65 after tip. For the amount of food and drink, it was definitely on the pricey side. Still, if you're looking for good vibes, great service, and solid margaritas, Diego's is worth checking out (just know you might be spending a bit more than expected.)

    Chicken Enchiladas

Small restaurant with a full bar area plus a nice patio area and daily specials. The menu is limited but the food is fresh and flavorful .The enchiladas verde were full of chicken and spiced well and the camarones a la Diablo were spicy and the shrimp were cooked well.

After going to Frieda's ealeier this year it was time to checkout the sister restaurant next door. We opted to sit out on their decent sized patio on this lovely evening. Plenty of big umbrellas to block sun if you do sit out. Plenty of seating inside as well with festive decor! Warm chips and very fresh salsa was served while we looked at the menu. They do offer seafood and Vegan options. Don't knock the vegan tacos! Quite a simple menu unlike other Mexican places which was nice and not over whelming. Great margaritas and cocktail options. Mocktails offered too. Waited on right away and food was prepared and served very quickly! Good taste, flavor and temps to food. My only knock to this place was after our first round we were asked if we wanted another drink. We both said yes thinking menus would be brought To us but instead another round of what we ordered was brought out without asking if we wanted something different (which we did want to try something else). Great little corner restaurant in a quiet neighborhood. Defiantly will feed your Mexican craving.

    Smothered chicken burrito

We ate here last week to celebrate my birthday. It was our first time, but won't be our last. The margarita was not the best margarita I've ever had, but it was enjoyable and there was a nice selection of beers and cocktails. The salsa was a little disappointing, but that just kept us from overindulging so we still had our appetites. We had the flaming queso as an appetizer and cleaned the bowl, it was so delicious. My daughter and I had the smothered chicken burrito while her boyfriend and my husband had enchiladas Verde. All the food was fresh and delicious. Our server Cecilia was very attentive and helpful with all of our questions. Unfortunately, it was cold so the patio out front was closed but the vibe inside was very cool. We loved the ambience, the service and the food.

The vibes here were so calming and romantic. This is a great place for a date night or a girls night. The dim lighting with the greenery everywhere made it such a vibe. Even the bathrooms were decorated in such a cute manner. The food here was pretty good, I had the quesadilla. It was amazing! The margaritas here were perfect! My boyfriend and I couldn't get enough of them. The food came out in a timely manner. Enough time to start your margarita, chat and chow down on your chips and salsa. The service was great. Our waiter was very helpful and patient with us.

Clayton was busy, so street parking was hard to find. Once seated, we were greeted with friendly service and were brought water. I ordered a ginger beer with cranberry juice added to it for a refreshing mocktail. We ordered the Squeaky Cheese to start, the golden-brown cheese curds were gooey and had the perfect crunch. They were served with marinara and a serrano dill aioli. The aioli had just the right amount of spice, complementing the dill flavor. The marinara was saucy and also good. I ordered the Bacon Jam Burger with fries. The burger was juicy, sweet, and had a nice crunch. The bacon jam was subtle, but it enhanced the overall flavor. My only complaint was that the bottom bun came out a bit soggy causing the burger to lose structure as I ate it. The fries were thin and crunchy! Today, I was blessed to find my favorite spot at the bar open. This is a great vantage point to witness how a well run restaurant functions. The Lindbergh Tartine was on point today with delicious sausage gravy over house-made sourdough, two sunny side up eggs and the always fantastic crispy potatoes. Soooo gooood! The pleasing decor, cute bistro-style tables and live plants makes this spot feel so warm. After coming here multiple times, I sometimes look for small improvements that I might suggest, but I'm consistently unsuccessful! With that said, I do think it's time to put some purse hooks up under the bar seating....still getting a solid 5-Star review! Come to Ivy Cafe and see for yourself!

My filet au poivre and my husband's French dip were forgettable at best. My steak was overcooked (ordered medium rare and came out close to medium well). With such a lean cut of meat, the overcooking of it ruined it. The Au poivre sauce which likely had cognac needed to be cooked off as it was extremely bitey (and salty). There was no peppery flavor at all. My cocktail, on the other hand, was delicious and well made (old fashioned) and our server was efficient, helpful, and timely. Overall I enjoyed the atmosphere. I've had the crab cake before so I didn't get it this time, and it's as good as people say. It is huge and can be shared with at LEAST two people. I'd likely visit again but I'll probably stay away from these two entrees next time.

It's a bit, and mostly the kitchen and bar back it up. Nevertheless, we arrived to a full room, hour wait for a table, but we fortunately arrived to snag the last first come patio table. The bar was also full, by the way, which felt neighborhood like, people clearly like this place during happy hour. The old fashioned makes the case: Old Grand-Dad Bonded, pickled rye, cognac, butterscotch bitters. Two whiskeys and a bitter you won't find at an actual dive. Rich, a little sweet. The harissa deviled eggs keep going -- fried shallots, roasted red peppers, cilantro, marinated tomato jam. You know, just like the old dive with the $1 PBR.Deviled eggs for people that don't like deviled eggs. However, we love deviled eggs...foreshadowing. The short ribs are the headline -- fall-apart tender over whipped potatoes substantial enough to stand up to the meat, gravy spot on. Eats like a perfectly executed roast dinner. The brie burger is the sneaky second hit, genuinely decadent, bacon with the cheese melting into the beef. The service was good and pleasant and that felt more like dive-friendly, where you might expect a wine "bar" to be snooty or full of themselves. 4.4 Stars Picking Nits: hip deviled eggs that reach past what they can hold.
