Came here with my work team to have a team meeting and enjoy some food. Every-time i drive past this place, I notice how crowded they are. They weren't busy around 4pm. We were able to go straight to a table. We opted to sit out back on the patio. They play music on a speaker and sometimes have a live band playing. The band was setting up before we left. Service was quick and the server was polite. She didn't bother us, but checked on us periodically. There is free street parking, or you can park in one of the two nearby parking lots. I ordered a carne asada taco and chips and Queso. The taco was delicious. The meat was seasoned well and tender. Love that they have street food on the menu. I stepped out of my comfort zone and tried a Huarache, which I consider to be like a cross between a Mexican style pizza and an over sized street taco. The homemade tortilla was thick, layered with salsa, cilantro, onion, Quesa fresco, and I added chicken. The mojito is a 10/10, could have probably drank 3. The back patio was pretty nice! Only downside was that I had been craving a Bloody Mary and they told me they couldn't make one? Which is odd since it's essentially a michelada just with vodka instead of beer. Oh well! The restaurant offers tex-mex as well as a good variety of food from several Mexican cities. I got so excited when I spotted several meals from the Yucatán and it brought back memories of my trip to Mérida and Cancun! Today I tried the enchiladas verde. I was able to order one each- chicken tinga, cheese and ground beef. The salsa verde was very flavorful and I enjoyed these a lot. I substituted rice for black beans, which was a great choice and more protein. My friend ordered the machete with carne asada and he enjoyed it very much. Went last night for dinner for the first time and the food and service were great! We ordered the steak fajita, the beef chimichanga and the fries for an appetizer, I believe they were topped with pieces of steak. The salsa was good as well as the beans and rice. I asked our server which was the best chimichanga and he said the beef. I asked him if it was shredded and he said yes. Now I have bad track record with ground beef at Mexican restaurants, so when I cut it open and it was not shredded but ground, I was like hmm... Their asada fries, with the perfectly crispy fries on a bed of queso and covered with chunky carne asada bites, jalapenos and pico de gallo, have ruined all other places' loaded fries type offerings for me. Their cochinita pibil, described by them as special slow roasted pork cooked in Yucatan style is unbelievably flavorful and tender - the citrus and achiote spice come through very clearly. The refried beans are made from black beans and have a smoother texture and flavor compared to pinto based refried beans. Their margaritas and pina colada are really well balanced. One small nitpick is their rice was a bit too salty for me. Even with that minor detail, Sabroso is at the pinnacle of Mexican food offerings in St Louis. read more

The staff is so warm, welcoming and attentive. Justin was our server and although he was managing a lot, he checked in with us regularly. If you appreciate chips and salsa on the house, that's not the case here but the chips are fresh and they keep them coming after your first order. There's ample seating inside and outside. Came here because I was intrigued by the good reviews. Lots of tables, cool decorations, and the staff seemed friendly. Got the al pastor burrito, shrimp burrito, and birria nachos. Overall, it was a decently priced and filling meal. I think the birria nachos were our least favorite of the three. While there was a lot of cheese, guac, and toppings to compensate, the flavor just wasn't there. Additionally, it was a little bit dry. The combination of nachos with birria didn't hit the mark because it's missing a crucial part: the consome. While on paper, this seems good, I would probably avoid this. However, the two burritos were decent. The al pastor was pretty good, with the pineapple and potatoes really adding interest depth of flavor and texture to the overall meal. The shrimp burrito was a little bit salty (and I love salt), and it seemed that aside from the shrimp (which was delicious), the accompanying fillings didn't really seem to add anything to the burrito. In fact, I think I liked it better if I picked out the shrimp and ate it by itself. Overall, this place is cheap and is decently filling. Maybe it was just the items we got, but we left this place feeling a little bit let down. The al pastor was decent, but the other things just didn't meet the mark. Overall, 3.5 stars. read more

The place is right off Manchester in applewood, there is street parking. From the moment you enter the aroma of good cooking permeates the air and you're ready to see what delighted menu holds. I live in Maplewood so I had seen that this was opening during a walk one day and thought I should try it. Then, I saw on a Facebook group "Mexican connoisseurs of St. Louis" that people were raving about it, so I wanted to try it sooner. It did not disappoint! I went with family on a warm day and we sat outside. The staff was very friendly and helpful. We tried Sabroso Maplewood for the first time this past weekend and are so incredibly happy they have joined the area. We arrived and were immediately welcomed and sat right away. While we had an option for a table, we elected to sit at the bar. The restaurant is very clean, welcoming and provides authentic vibes. There is also outdoor seating right out front or on the patio out back for the perfect weather days. We were welcomed and provided menus once we sat at the bar. From there, we explored the menu and were so happy to see so many great options available. We started with the Tres Compadres: Queso Dip, Salsa & Guacamole with Chips - which is the best way to start. All (3) dips were fantastic and the guacamole was so fresh. I am also thrilled to report - the margaritas are actually legit. They use all freshly squeezed juices, fresh cut fruit and infused tequilas to enhance the flavor of many of the drinks. I was so happy to learn that zero pre-mixed sweet & sour was used. The house margaritas was absolute perfection - slightly tart and balanced with tequila. For dinner, I was torn between two, however, Manny (GM and Cocktail Extraordinaire) helped me decide on the Quesabirria tacos, which are one of his favorite. I definitely agree - the flavors were fantastic, the consumme was a perfect and the birria meat itself was divine. Would 100% order again. My husband enjoyed a smattering of different tacos: Carnitas, Al Pastor & Carne Asada - which the Carne Asada won out as the favorite amongst the three. One of the best Mexican restaurants I've been to in a long time! The guacamole was clearly made fresh you can absolutely taste the difference and the tamales were to die for. Everything we ordered was incredibly delicious. The service was impeccable, and the restaurant was spotless. I loved the music, the overall vibe, and the welcoming atmosphere. They also have patio seating, which is a nice bonus. Highly recommend coming here for authentic (or at least very close to authentic) Mexican food. read more

We're always looking for a good Mexican restaurant and this place was bomb. The service was great from the moment we walked in. We were catered to and they were very attentive. I got the quesobirria which came with consumme - both were super flavorful and fantastic. I'm a sucker for rice and theirs was spiced really nice. Their street corn was super garlicky and creamy, unique but tasty. Everyone at the table was more than happy with their meal, it was fantastic. We were looking for something new and were arguing about Maya Cafe. (Not that it matters but I won because he thought Maya was still open. ) Sabroso is in Maya's old spot. Anywho, we were greeted as soon as we walked in which as we all know is a nice touch. We ordered the chips and salsa with guacamole. Now if you read any of my reviews you will know that I'm a wuss when it comes to spice. I really liked this chip and salsa appetizer because it came with mild AND hot salsa. The mild was FANTASTIC!!!! The hot (which I didn't try but was told about) was good just not very hot. The guacamole was beautiful but was kind of bland. I like to get a shrimp fajita burrito if offered when I go to a new Mexican place. This burrito was covered in cheese. I'm a fan of cheese but sometimes I wonder..."what are they hiding?. In this case, nothing. The burrito was good and had enough shrimp. My friend like his meal but got rice as a side and said it was really dry. He also got black beans and said they were great. I and a friend (red) dined at this establishment in Maplewood on the evening of 5/22/25. When we arrived it was fairly busy, we agreed to wait fir a table with a booth to be cleaned. I had nit been to sabraso before but Red had. We were seated and brought menus. The lady that seated us took our drink orders at that time and said our Walter would be with us soon. We looked over the menu and decided on what we woukd like to order. The waiter came to.our table about 10 minutes later. We ordered queso and chips and then I ordered a chimichanga and Red had enchiladas. We waited for our food. After about another 15 minutes the waiter came back with food that sadly belonged to another table, we waited about another 5 minutes for our order to arrive and at that time inquired with the waiter in regard to the queso and chips we had ordered, they were delivered to the table a few minutes later. My chimichanga while Luke warm, was ok, a bit overspiced , the beans accompanying the dish were tasty, the rice not so much. Reds food arrived cold and she took maybe three bites before conceding that it was not very tasteful. Not one of the better dining experiences we have had out. But I will return to give this establishment another go as I have heard good things from others. read more

The green salsa has a nice tang and the red salsa a depth of flavor that was just a bit smoky. I ordered off the street food menu - a shrimp torta and street corn. Both were so fresh, flavorful and a generous serving size. My husband ordered the steak which was a nice cut of meat with very fresh sauted vegetables. The server recommended we order the Tres Compadres instead for a better value. Our order of chips came with queso, salsa, and guacamole for $11.99. All 3 were excellent dippers. There are two rooms for dining, seating outside in front of the restaurant (on the sidewalk), and I believe there is a patio, but can't confirm. We ordered our cocktails, chips and salsa (not free) and queso. The chips and salsa came right away and the cocktails a little later. I had to ask for the queso again. I had the spicy pineapple margarita and it was good. It was nice and spicy, but lacked any pineapple flavor. The food was okay. The chips and salsa were okay. I think the drinks were the best thing. The service was underwhelming. The staff that we saw were all young and they seemed to gather and chat rather often. We more than likely won't go back. Not being familiar with the original Sabroso location in St. Ann, I didn't know what to expect, but my husband had spotted a new restaurant in Maplewood when looking at Google maps, and the description it led him to sounded really good. The descriptions didn't do Sabroso 2 justice. It is amazing. The location is cute with a few tables for outside seating. Inside, the bar area is charming, and there is plenty of seating. Service was attentive and welcoming. With all of those positives, the food is still the absolute star of the show. The homemade tortilla for the machete was delicious, and so was the filling. My husband ordered the molcajete, and it was filled with tender steak, grilled shrimp with just that slight char, chorizo, chicken and the perfect spices. Let's start w simple chips and salsa- nothing simple here! The chips are fresh and warm. Both the green and red salsas are tasty and exciting to the palate! Then drinks, the Jamaica is a wonderfully fruity and refreshing accompaniment to the chips. (it's non alcoholic, hibiscus tea). On my last visit i tried the Sabroso Special Tacos- a fried tinga taco, covered in an addictive red sauce, and finely diced, sautéed, onions and cabbage. I have a new favorite!
