This is the Charro I love! Their chips and salsa are so good! Great service and delicious food! We had a less than stellar Cinco de Mayo experience last year so I am so glad that was a one-off. I had the nachos chori carne as my meal and it was delicious and just enough. My daughters had the pollo colores and a quesadilla special. Also delicious. I enjoyed a golden margarita, of course. This is my favorite place to come not exclusively for good Mexican food, but the people who serve here are the best servers you'll find anywhere. It is always clean, the music is upbeat and at a good volume, there are a wide variety of customers, and when the patio is open, it's truly my favorite time. This is the only restaurant I have ever felt okay to come and sit at alone, or with a large group. I have probably eaten here 40 times now, and have never been served inconsistently, now matter who is in working that day. I wish i could comment on margaritas because i know alot of people enjoy those, but as a beer drinker, they have the best draft beers in chesterfield. Food:Pretty much like el maguey. Staff is hit or miss on service (experience). Everyone seemed friendly though. Clean, normal strip mall restaurant feel. Everyone agreed the food was nothing to write home about. Nachos/ Chimis/ burritos/ quesadillas. On a good note- I've sworn off eating Mexican because of severe heartburn and had to come along- and it wasn't too bad in that respect. The margs were a little watered down w too much ice but I kinda prefer that for the same reason as above. My son is kind of a foodie and he wasn't smiling- although they forgot his order and he waited a long time for it to finally come when we finally asked about it again. 8-28-20: Went Charro to renew my commitment to small business. Instead of the 32 Oz, I started with a Corona Premier. We ordered our Pollo Cancun and 3-Choice without event. Food is good but our location was terrible. Our table was near trash can. Friends, please observe where you are being seated and ask to be moved. My need for a second cerveza never got attempted because they are busy and I wanted to get away. Ordered take out and when I got home I realized they forgot something, so I had to drive back to the restaurant. When I finally sat down to eat I saw that they'd given me chicken enchiladas instead of cheese that I ordered. I'm vegetarian. It takes 2 seconds to look at what the customer ordered. We recently hosted a family dinner for 40 people at Charro and it went wonderfully. We used the party room and were allowed to bring in some party decorations. The room was ready for use at the agreed time. The fajita bar and taco bar were ready on time, and the food was fresh, hot and delicious. We appreciated the attentive but not intrusive service. We all enjoyed the pitchers of Margaritas at each table. It is a family friendly place and our family highly recommends it! read more

I ordered veggie fajitas and added chicken (I just love the variety of vegetables in veggie only fajitas!) for dinner. There was a good amount of chicken added (charged $2 for the add, which is reasonable!). The fajitas were extremely greasy - moreso than fajitas have been in my experience. My husband ordered a carne asada burrito. He enjoyed the seasoning on the meat a lot. My son got 3/$0.99 tacos and a side of rice and enjoyed them. My daughter ordered the burrito supremo. She didn't love the sauce but ate the whole burrito and enjoyed it. We happened to be there during happy hour and my $2.50 margarita delivered exactly what I expect from a happy hour margarita - lots of ice and margarita mix, low alcohol. The bar for mexican food in st Louis is set pretty low and this place is a perfect example of that. If you're the kind of person who thinks tacos and enchiladas are best made with flour tortillas, and judge a Mexican restaurant by its "cheese dip," you'll feel right at home. This place would be 1 star in a city with better Mexican restaurants, but that would be unfair because it's fairly represenative of what passes for Mexican food in this town, so 3 stars on the St. Louis Mexican food scale. read more

Any time I have been in the area with my family, we like to stop here. The food is good, portions are nice and the servers are excellent. I do not hesitate to recommend Charro to others. Just an FYI, take Alan P's review from 01/13/2017 with a grain of salt. He never ate there. That review was only placed because he got mad at the amount of a tip he got from one of the servers. I have proof of this, since he posted what he did on a pizza delivery driver page on Facebook. I find it pretty petty to downgrade a restaurant over something it had no control over at all. read more

I really wanted to love this restaurant and gave it several tries. Good Margaritas but the food isn't very good (food came out cold). The chips & salsa weren't good - chips tasted like old oil. The the burrito was so greasy - don't think they even drained the ground beef as the plate was full of grease. Needs a good overall cleaning of the tables and chairs - sticky when you sat in booths. Charro is a quick and easy stop for Mexican when you are in a rush or need to get the fam fed quickly! The food is well priced and delicious, but you can tell that they stray from some authentic dishes to appeal to the American-Mexican food that we all know and love! This may be our new local favorite for "Mexican" food. Why the " " you may ask? Mainly because this is very definitely Americanized Mexican food. Setting that debate aside - what they do, they do well. Wandered in with kid 1 for a NYE lunch and decided to order something other than the usual stuff since they don't serve tortas or street tacos and neither "Speedy Gonzales" or any of the regular combos held much appeal. I chose the most unusual thing I could find on the menu...something billed as "Mexican Gyros." The dish arrived as two full-size pitas filled with what can best be described as fajita meat without the sear. You can get beef or chicken and they will do one of each upon request. I asked for one of each and liked the chicken a little more than the beef. Usually it is the opposite for me but the chicken was juicy where the beef was a bit overcooked. I believe the seasoning they used was an adobo blend and it was really flavorful. They give you a little dish of queso on the side and some sour cream on top of a bed of shredded lettuce with a little salsa thrown in too. Personally, I think a fajita pita would be a better approach to the idea of a "Mexican Gyros" but that wasn't on the menu. Next time I will ask them for a lunch fajita platter and sub pitas for the tortillas. I think I can get the dish to the next level with that approach... read more

The lunch specials here are fantastic. For only a few dollars more than Taco Bell you get freshly made chips and salsa delivered to your table, real flatware, fresh ingredients (read: no mystery meat here) and unlimited drink refills. What's not to love? The restaurant is always extremely clean and the service is pleasant and attentive. Portions are the perfect size for lunch. I ordered the spinach quesadilla and my mom opted for a combination plate--can't remember what selections she chose, but she seemed happy with it. I wasn't going to even bother to review this place, but I decided I had too. We came for a coworkers birthday lunch a while back. It wasn't crowded at all so we had the whole patio to ourselves. The food and margaritas were good and our lunch server was fantastic. The problem came later when we were trying to pay and leave. Our original server had left and the two servers that took over were rude and inconsiderate towards us. We had ordered a lot of food and drinks and certainly did not deserve the utterly rude treatment we were met with. The patio had several other lively tables by the time we left and we were no louder than the rest. I was appalled and even complained to a third server that came out to clear our table. She was also very rude. I will definitely not be back if this is how they treat people. read more

We have been going to Charros for years and while they are not known for speedy service, we have enjoyed the food and close location. Friday night, I ordered a pork burrito and what I received was a tortilla stuffed with onions, peppers and pork fat. I flagged down the manager who was racing by only because our waiter was never to be seen again. He quickly scooped up my food and took it back to the kitchen. Meanwhile I sat and waited and watched my husband eat his meal. Neither the waiter or manager checked back with me to offer a new meal. About 15 minutes later, the manager brought the bill and said he took the burrito off the bill. I walked out hungry and upset that as long standing patron of this restaurant for the poor service. Wonderful food! A little more refined or fancy than other local Mexican restaurants, but reasonable prices for the delicious, authentic, fresh food and nice ambiance and service experience to match. Highly recommend the horchata--it tastes freshly-made, the spices are just right! Enchiladas were also a hit tonight. Plus, they have very easy online ordering for takeout.
