The Ivy cafe makes me wish I lived in St. Louis so I could come here regularly. My husband and I had breakfast there last Friday. I got the walnut pesto eggs with sausage and he got the quiche. They were both so tasty. You could tell that the ingredients are fresh and someone with care is cooking in the kitchen. The homemade sausage was fantastic, delicately seasoned and again fresh ingredients. The potatoes were super crispy (I love them this way). The servers are kind and efficient. Ivy is a small space that filled up quickly and stayed full on the evening we had reservations. It is attractive, slightly feminine in furnishing and decor, and clean. There does not appear to be any noise dampening and it gets loud. The cocktail menu is great and their drinks are really good. They are not watery and the non-alcohol ingredients are of unusually high quality. The service is efficient and friendly. The food is a mixed bag, but overall good Great: The smoked salmon bites had dill, red onion, capers, cream cheese on thin cucumber slices. Every element was delicious and perfect. Also great was the shrimp they use and how they cook it. Not fishy, mealy, rubbery at all. It's the best shrimp I've had at a restaurant outside of Louisiana. We had shrimp skewers and shrimp pomegranate salad - both were great! The cheese board was solid, but not exceptional. Two items were mildly to moderately disappointing. The chicken salad was sweet. There was a lot of "You finish it" "No, you can have it." The most disappointing item was the dates with bacon and goat cheese. Yuck. No. If you remember Modesto on the Hill in St Louis then you know how this should be : Small sweet dates stuffed with piquant goat cheese and wrapped in crispy bacon. Naturally sweet, rich, savory, salty, great texture. This was not that. Large dates, no discernible by sight or taste goat cheese, a crumb of bacon on half of them, with a sickly sweet maple glaze. The iced vanilla latte was excellent--smooth, well-balanced, and not overly sweet. Unfortunately, the service didn't quite match the quality of the coffee. It took over 30 minutes just to receive our lattes, and because of the long wait, we decided to skip ordering food and head somewhere else instead. To be fair, they were very busy, and the staff seemed a bit overwhelmed and unorganized, so I'm hoping it was just an off day. Perfect place to catch up with a girlfriend. Ambiance is en pointe as others mentioned. For free parking, park near Half and Half in the neighborhood and it's about a 5-6 minute walk to Ivy Cafe. The drinks were a pass-- ordered the Mushroom Medicinal ($5) which is supposed to be like a chaga mushroom coffee and I've had far better in LA and the Latte (with mocha syrup). It was girl dinner night so we chowed down on small plates. With the beautiful weather we opted for outdoor seating. Great choice! Salmon skewers should never leave the menu ! They were the best thing we had. Our server was not wrong with her suggestion! Really enjoyed the meatballs but we missed more seasoning to give it necessary flavor. I ordered the Evergreen which is with avocado and watermelon radish, it was okay, a little on the pricier side for avocado toast. I enjoyed the coffee though! When we arrived we were seated right away. It's small inside and so even though it was an off-time (around 3pm on a Saturday) there were only two or three small tables left. You have to pay to park on the street as there is not a dedicated lot. Also, since it's so small inside you can hear other people's conversations. Though the interior is nice with a lot of greenery. I ordered the Cherokee, which I enjoyed, to me it had a Tajín taste. My husband ordered the red wine conundrum. We ordered the fried pickles which were really the star of the show, they were so thin and crispy, it was wonderful, with some house made sauces to boot. I ordered the pot pie as it was a cold day and the crust was wonderful but the interior was a bit blasè, mostly potatoes it seemed. My spouse enjoyed his grilled cheese and tomato soup. I had never heard of this place until I met friends here for breakfast. They are known for their sourdough tartines (take a large slice of sourdough bread and heap different toppings on it then serve it open face). I was skeptical that I would like it so I ordered a boring 2 egg and sausages plate that did come with a slice of sourdough and homemade strawberry jam. The eggs were cooked perfectly to over easy and the sausage was fantastic. I enjoyed the sourdough too. It was a lot of food. Tiny, seemingly delicate tables fill the space with cute decor which includes real flowers and plants. We came for dinner, made reservations and were seated immediately upon arrival. They put your names on reserved tables which was a special touch. Service was quick and attentive except for the time after our entrée were delivered and we waited to order more drinks but our waitress hasn't been back for a while. I did flag her eventually close to the end of our meal and she came over to check on us. We ordered some drinks. I had the Fairground and he had the Gateway arch. Both cocktails were excellent. I started with the beet and goat cheese salad. It was okay, could have used some more dressing. The menu said it was served with honey vinegarette but I could only find a few drops of it. I ate the beets and the goat cheese though, and took a bite of the charred avocado. My husband had the sweet potato soup and he also stated it needed more flavors. He loved the bread! For my entrée, I ordered the Chilean seabass. It was cooked and seasoned perfectly. I wasn't all that impressed with the smashed potatoes but the fish was excellent. My husband had the curry with salmon. He liked his meal better than the starter as well. We ordered another drink but skipped dessert. Cute little corner Cafe in Downtown Clayton. You have to park on the street (if you're lucky) or park in a nearby garage. Its a small café and space is very limited. I came in a Saturday with a friend and reservations were made. We were seated immediately and the wait staff was quick with taking drink orders. I think the servers all share tables because 3 of them came to wait and take care of us, which was great. All three were amazing! Food came out pretty quick and it was really good. My eggs weren't cooked over medium as requested but more over hard. Not a big deal. The sourdough was good but I wish they toasted it a bit longer. The potatoes were cut in large chunks and were really good. The jam spread taste nice as well. My brut champagne with the frozen orange juice cubes was a delight. The ambiance is nice but it is very loud. It's hard to hear anything. If you are hard of hearing, this place may not be ideal for your party. That have a limited seating time as well. My guest and I didn't realize we were sitting for an hour and a half but the hostess sure wanted us that they have a 90 minute seating time. Prior to this, my friend did ask the server if we were holding up a reservation and the server insisted that we were not. Not a big deal but now we know. Overall, the experience was ok. I visited the Ivy café on a cold, Saturday morning. Parking can be a little tricky as they do not have a private lot. You can choose street parking or there are several garages nearby that charge by 15 minutes increments. As I entered the establishment, it was bustling and people were seated throughout. There was an entire wall of plants and big windows facing the road. The service was very good and they offered recommendations. The portions were rather large, so I was able to take home my breakfast potatoes to be used for several other meals. What? What did you, say? The acoustics are horrible in this cafe and they even have acoustic panels on the ceiling. In addition to hearing the conversations around us, the music was also being played at a high volume. We were able to have a conversation, but the noises in the cafe made it unpleasant. We started our lunch with adult beverages. I had a, Espresso Martini made with true espresso, not just a espresso flavored liquor. I always make sure of the true espresso before I order Mine was good, but it could have been stronger for me. My friend ordered, The Lafayette, which is basically a dirty martini with vodka and bleu cheese olives. When it was delivered to the table, it had regular olives. My friend pointed it out to the server and she went to check it out. She came back with two stuffed olives and explained they were the last two and since there were not three, that is why they put regular olives on her cocktail. The stuffed ones were damn good and made the cocktail. For our entrees, we both went with the, Three Cheese Grilled Cheese with Truffle Fries. The three cheeses were, Feta, Goat and Cheddar. As a bonus, the sandwich also had bacon and we all know everything is better with bacon. We both thought the bread was too thick, its thickness made it chewy and difficult to melt the cheese between the two slices. In both of our sandwiches, the cheese was barely melted. The Truffle Fries were super crisp and I liked that they served ketchup in a little stainless cup. I am not a fan of ketchup bottles on a table. The service was good and attentive. I can only assume that they work as a team, because the people taking care of us was constantly changing. Overall, it was just an okay experience and I will to be rushing back. read more

Finally got around to having brunch / lunch here. All in all, a good experience! The place is small and very cute. As other reviews note, it is noisy, but not so much its a problem. My husband and I shared the following: espresso martini flight, bacon and garbanzo salad, chicken salad sampler, the central tartine and the sourdough sliders. Everything was very good except the sliders. I would not recommend those. Service is pretty good but you're attended to by various servers. We took a guest to breakfast here one weekend morning recently. Street parking was easily available, and is free on weekends. What a sweet and bright, open space it was! Clean too. The seating host and servers we met during this experience were very nice. I ordered the mushroom coffee: forest & meadow mushroom medicinal powder, served with a shot of espresso. I received a large, hot mug of beverage with artistic crema decor. Could not discern mushroom flavor save the grit at the bottom of the cup, but I can now say I've tried it. My eggs and salad dish came out next, along with an order of their toasted sourdough bread, butter and jam I ordered (their specialty). Unfortunately, the toast was cold, as was the liquidy fruit jam. Butter was ice cold out of the frig too since it has been forgotten and needed to be retrieved. The small green salad was fresh and tasty, but the two scrambled eggs were cold and rubbery. It was hard to know who was out server because aside from the seating hostess, four more people arrived, one after the other, at varying times to get the meal and forgotten items to our small party of three. The ambiance of Ivy is extremely pleasant. Upon entering you receive comfort, class and plenty of O2, as this quaint French bistro is well lit and adorned with plant life. The service outnumbers the patrons almost and a buzz around the cafe makes you feel well taken care of, but also at ease. We had come for dinner before but this time we came for brunch. Having had a wonderful dinner for Clayton restaurant week we were pleased to have an equally amazing experience. The cappuccinos are some of the best in town.
