Songbird is the Dolly Parton of St. Louis breakfast: bigger stage, brighter lights, same voice. I've followed this operation since it was a sandwich pop-up at the Tower Grove Farmers' Market, through the brick-and-mortar in The Grove, and now into its larger home in Tower Grove South. The quality has not wavered once. I ordered what I always order: The Combo (fried eggs, maplewood smoked bacon, cheese, brioche toast), extra egg, extra bacon. Most kitchens treat a fried egg as binary (runny or ruined). Songbird has mastered the middle register: lacy edges with a yolk that stays glossy and intact right up until the first bite. I ordered them over hard, and they came out a bit closer to over medium, but they were just as good as I wanted them to be. The bacon carries real smoke. This is a decadent sandwich, big enough that half of it would make a light breakfast; I wasn't remotely hungry after one, the second half was indulgent. The service made the move too. The hostess still recognizes returning customers, and the bigger room finally lets the dining experience breathe. The service at the table could have been a little warmer as we've had it the past, but it is still professional. I was there with two close college buddies, one of whom declared his latte excellent. I keep meaning to get adventurous with the menu, but it is genuinely hard to find a bacon, egg, and cheese toasted this perfectly, and I'd go twice in one day if given the opportunity. 4.8 A full five arrives the day when I can arrive first thing on a Saturday without a 30 minute wait, honestly, it's hard to get a reservation here because of its popularity. I wanted my toast's jam to be on the side and they said no. It was a thick tasteless brick without the jam. The items are not as traditional for a breakfast spot, and when I asked the server what they were known for she said the drinks.... They also run a tight turnaround time so they will make you feel uncomfortable when its time to clear your table and pay the bill because they will tell you the next reservation is in 5minutes. The plates were all different and my guest who got a sandwich had her food come out in a plastic fry basket instead of the nicer plates. Odd. As I mentioned earlier, they are not kid friendly as they don't have a kids menu or kid friendly items like fruit and pancakes. We ordered a side of avocado and chicken sausage as those were the safest for us. Also there are no changing tables in the restrooms. Accessibility note: the entrance is a giant multi-slope and 1 turn ramp into a cramped lobby. A reasonably-sized (not-overwhelming) menu, great coffee, delicious cocktails, quick, attentive service, and undeniably delicous food. I took off on a redeye this morning (coffee courtesy of Blueprint), and landed on the Farm Sampler: two scrambled eggs, applewood smoked bacon, sourdough toast, sliced avocado and sauteed shiitake mushrooms. Phenomenal flavors and textures. Toast is typically an afterthought for me, but the buttery crunch of the sourdough has to be spotlighted. The Bee's Knees cocktail was also a wonderfully refreshing prelude to the approaching STL summer. I think that Songbird suffers from a problem that many businesses have when they scale up: the personal connection is lost, and the food no longer tastes like it is made with love. I was very excited to try them but left knowing I would not return. I waited 40 minutes on a weekday morning for a bar seat for one, standing because all the waiting area seats were taken. The hostess/waitress was very nice when she got to me, but you could tell that the amount of customers was simply too much to handle. Now, this was okay - I should have made a reservation, and it's not the staff's fault they were overwhelmed. However, the service once I sat down was patchy, delayed and distracted. I had to remind different servers of my presence, multiple times. I was willing to overlook this if the food had been fantastic, but unfortunately, their most popular item, the combo breakfast sandwich, was so incredibly heavy. The first bite was crispy, oily and fatty deliciousness, but by the third bite it was simply too rich. The sweet overtone of the honey was lovely but did not cut through the grease. By the time I finished half, I understood why several diners had left the other half uneaten. My personal preference is for a fresh, umami yet balanced sandwich that does not make me feel queasy after finishing it. This was not the sandwich for me. There was a long delay after I finished eating for them to bring me the check. My whole meal took around 2.5 hours. I had arrived starving and, I like to think, with an open mind. These are my honest, unfiltered observations. It is wonderful that so many people want to try their food and that their new space is bigger. Their decor, glassware and menu were cute and tasteful. So, it's been a LONG time and a lot has changed. They've moved to a new and bigger location. And I actually got to eat inside the restaurant this time. The food was good, though not great. The ambiance was fine, but loud. The service did NOT measure up though. We had a reservation, but weren't seated until 15-20 minutes after the reservation time. Then, our server was either not good or way overworked. She left after taking a few drink orders, and said she'd be back. Had to flag her down. She didn't write our orders down, and then messed some of them up. The side I ordered to share with the table (like an appetizer) didn't come out until after ALL the rest of the food. Checked out the new Songbird location and overall had a good experience. The new space is really big, though the parking lot is still pretty small, but plenty of street parking! We sat by the window and it was HOT. Like sweating-through-brunch hot. The rest of the restaurant seemed cool and comfortable, so maybe just avoid that area if it's sunny out. Food was good overall. I liked the chicken sausage and the signature sandwich. I also got the seasonal maple iced latte, it was a little more savory than I was expecting, but still good. We happened to walk in a little after 8am on a Sunday morning and were surprised to hear all the tables had a reservation, but we could sit at the bar....so we did. Note.....make a reservation! We had a Caesar salad, the breakfast sandwich and the burger all of them were delicious and came out really quickly even though they were busy. The restaurant and bathroom were very clean. The only areas of improvement was the latte and cappuccino ; the milk was not frothed at all it seemed there was no foam at all. The new place is so pretty! I made reservations for Sunday morning right at opening time, 8:00 AM. We found a spot in the lot next to the building where there are several spaces. There is also plenty of street parking at the time on Sunday morning. Right at 8:00 people started getting out of their cars to line up for opening. It has a ramp leading to the door and the line formed there. We waited about 5 or so minutes before the doors opened and then we were led to our table by the owner. We were sat in the second room, lots of windows, great metal dividers, large felt eggs as artwork. Great space. The table felt roomy for four guests. We reviewed the drink menu and when our server came back, we ordered our drinks but weren't ready to order food yet. When she brought our drink order we placed or order for food, three of the farmer market famous sandwiches and one classic breakfast with chicken sausage. The songbird latte was great! Salted caramel and smoked maple, so good. We waited quite a while for our food, I think there was a backup in the kitchen from a large to-go order, when the food came out it was a hit, the three who got the famous sandwich were blown away! I went here for a brunch with a friend and although it is not traditional diner food it is a healthier but delicious take on it. I got a sandwich with egg, honey and bacon and it literally was the perfect blend of salty and sweet. Felt like a hangover cure. This is an insanely popular restaurant. I'm grateful I had the foresight to book a reservation because there was a 40-minute wait by 11am on a Saturday. It's a tiny bustling spot with good amount of patio tables. The standout was the service -- my server was a pro, explained the menu, made recommendations, was attentive without being annoying, and made me feel at home. The food was good but I was expecting more given how bananas packed the place was. I got the Songbird latte and while it had a tasty smoky caramel flavor without being too sweet, the temperature of the beverage was lukewarm. My server was excited about the Breakfast Tamale but I opted for the Sprouted Grain English Muffin Sandwich, and he enticed me to add the "thick cut" of heirloom tomato for about $2. The sandwich was really good, albeit a little bit tricky to eat, and the bread was a little soggy on the bottom. The heirloom tomato addition wasn't worth the cost -- it was a very thin, mealy slice, and didn't pack the wow factor I was expecting. The drink menu is actually longer than the food menu, which I loved for all the coffee bar options. I tried the Vietnamese iced coffee-- which I don't usually go for-- but it was so good! Rich and strong with a great coffee flavor. All our drinks came served in a cute glass you'll want to take home. Our server was so kind and accommodating when we mentioned we were on a time crunch, and everything came out quickly (we even finished with 25 minutes to spare!). Food-wise, the French toast was indulgent, topped with peach compote and sweet ricotta--almost dessert-level sweet, but the bread was better than a lot of the French toast I've had in my day. I recommend adding the fried egg on top to balance some of the sweetness. The breakfast sandwich, though, was my favorite, one the best I've had in a while. My friends had the french toast and Breakfast Tamale Filled with cotija cheese, served with stewed black beans, shaved watermelon, cilantro crema, and a fried egg. Add Slagel Farm chorizo. We also each had a delicious iced latte. 2 of us had the lavender flavor one and it was delightful. My dish came with a choice of milk, juice or coffee and so I opted for fresh squeezed orange juice. Amazing place in the former 3 Monkeys location on Morganford. I visited this place for a late breakfast in August 2026. I was made aware of it by my youngest child and I had eaten here when it was a different place and operated on a different schedule. Parking during the day was very convenient and they have off street parking but it's not exactly adjacent to Songird, it's a bit north of them. Parking Warning, east of Songbird, directly across the street, where I parked, was open because it was restricted to 30 minute parking and not well marked. Luckily I was seated where I could see all the cars pulling in by me only to leave after reading the sign that was 2 car lengths away from me. That's a gotcha for sure. I want to share this, before I got into the restaurant a man was leaving and we exchanged messages and then I saw a guy hustling up the sidewalk holding a bag. I stepped out of the way into see him give the man I had passed his bagged leftovers. That set me up nicely as I thought if they run like that for a guy that left... So inside o had their house roast, I think it's from a local coffee bean shop, along with my half and half and sugar. I ordered scrambled eggs, bacon and their house muffin that I had read about. The eggs were perfect, may have been cooked on a buttered skillet instead of oil, bacon was thicker cut and very good. The house muffin was very good. I do recommend Songbird, our server was very helpful and the place was pretty much filled for a middle of the week breakfast and in fact I was chatting with my daughter and the hostess stopped by and asked if we wouldn't mind moving to the bar area to talk as they were backed up at the moment. As the dad of 4 kids I knew how quickly they turned if they were hungry and not eating. We settled up and got up to leave when the hostess noticed we weren't going to the bar and she said she was sorry if we had felt hurried or pushed and I said no we needed to be going and her approach to us had been timed well. As we went out a family looked at us, I imagine they were getting our table and mouthed thank you. So even other diners were hospitable. I do recommend Songbird for a nice breakfast or brunch. I opted to add a fresh heirloom tomato to my breakfast sandwich as well. This was an elite "combo" and all the flavors meshed well together, particularly, I would highly recommend adding the heirloom tomato as I felt that it added an extra layer of freshness to the sandwich. This was such a cute little shop! The biscuits were delicious and the matching was fabulous. The service was great. I would come back!

The new location is spacious and filled with natural lighting. Songbird's food is consistently comforting and hearty. The lox and bagel is my go-to, but you really can't go wrong with anything on the menu. The staff are always wonderful. read more
