    Hot beef sandwich

Fast and friendly service! It's also in an adorable part of town, we loved how there were Italians flags everywhere over here! They have indoor and outdoor seating, you can order on a tablet or with a desk gal. Both options were convenient! I had the hot beef sandwich. It was so soft and delicious. We also tried the potato salad which was packed with flavor and the potatoes were cooked just right. And the pickles were delish as well, and I am a pickle connoisseur. They weren't too strong dill, not too sour, perfect crunch.

We had a second memorable visit to this over 100-year-old deli in the Hill, after a morning at the zoo. This time was a Tuesday lunch, and there were somehow no lines (bonus!). The workers were very friendly. The regular turkey sandwich was a satisfying lunch, and I recommend a toasted bun. I also had pepperoncini's, which I find indistinguishable from yellow banana peppers. We ate outside at a picnic table on a beautiful Spring day. Looking forward to our next visit!

In the heart of "The Hill," an old St. Louis Italian American neighborhood, you will find this gem of a sandwich shop. The long line is not like a TSA line because everyone is happy excited and no one has luggage. At the end of you wait is a patient cashier who has lots of options but maybe to start go with "Original on Italian, 6 inch "approximately" with everything and mustard" Actually there are three kinds of mustard and the horseradish mustard goes well with salami. Hot salami is the acme of sandwiches. They have Coke Zero as a fountain drink and some pretty good local potato chips. 11 minutes away from Ted Drewes for dessert.

This was the most delicious surprise. That Lenten fish sandwich is fantastic and a hoot! Who would guess that cod would be so well complimented in a sandwich by mac and cheese and riplets?! The bread is a star. They know how to handle the out- the- door crowd... service quick and pleasant. Outside seating with your sandwich, chips, maybe a house salad, and soft drink. What a yummy surprise!!!

Take-out roast beef sandwich. So much meat. So good!

Gioia's is SO flippin good. I've lived across from The Hill since 2017 but only recently started going to the Gioia's near me; I always loved visiting their downtown location close to my pre-covid office. Today, I stopped in to pick up a hot roast beef for lunch, to go. It was easy to place my order at the kiosk, but I chose to place it with the cashier since no one was in line, and frankly, because he's always a delight to talk to. I ordered the small size roast beef with Swiss and au jus, but when I got home I was wondering if they accidentally gave me the large because it is SO much food. The beef wasn't gristly or fatty, and the bread was the absolute perfect consistency -- just bite after delicious bite. The wheat has little pieces of sprouted grain that I love. Honestly, you just can't go wrong with this place. So good. I kind of wonder if it might be my favorite place on The Hill!

Stopped into Gioia's Deli on The Hill and finally tried the Hot Italian Trio--and wow. Absolute perfection. The bread was warm and perfectly toasted, the meats were tick cut with that classic Gioia's flavor, and the whole sandwich had the ideal balance of spice, melt, and crunch. Service was fast and friendly even during the lunch rush, and you can feel the history and pride in everything they serve. It's one of those spots that just hits every single time. Limited seating inside

Gioia's is a great deli in STL! The sandwiches are delicious. I got take out and it didn't disappoint. A few tables inside to eat.

    Hot Salami Sandwich

Regular original hot salami on toasted wheat bread with pepperjack cheese, giardiniera garnish, and spicy mustard sauce: Unwrapping it released a strong wheat smell from the bread. The sandwich was hot but not too spicy. Perfect for a cold day, but also enjoyable for a nice summer snack. There were 3 generous slices of salami which was unlike any salami I've had before. It was thick, tender, and juicy. The sandwich was loaded with peppers and tasted so good that when I looked down I had already eaten the whole thing! The girls behind the counter are friendly and say welcome in to every customer.

I've moved across the river, so dining at Gioia's has become a thing of the past. The other day I was in STL helping a non-driving friend run errands and he offered me lunch at Gioia's as a thank-you. When he mad that offer, I gladly accepted. It was good to have their famous and delicious Hot Salami sandwich, again. I had it on their Cheese Garlic Bread. Yes, I did have it toasted for that extra crunch. I also had that smear of spicy mustard and chose Pepper Jack as my cheese. Typically, I will always take 9" over 6", but 6" of Hot Salami is enough. In fact, I was only able to eat half and enjoyed the other half later that afternoon while I watched Jeopardy. The staff is personable and if you are confused about ordering, they'll give you some solid advice. I am so glad my friend treated me to Gioia's. It made me realize, it is worth the drive from IL to enjoy their world famous sammie.

Another great sandwich here at the ole' original Gioia's! You just cannot go wrong with anything here, but their original Hot Salami on Cheese Garlic Bread is tough to beat. They are always fairly busy to busy but they get people through fast and are so friendly/helpful. Small inside with plenty of tables outside. Plus, if you have kids or a baseball nut, Berra (Yogi Berra) Park is right across the street! The Hill is amazing and should be on your list to visit if time allows.

Yum! Hot salami is a favorite of mine, and it works so well on the Spicy Daggett Sandwich. This was our first time in (not sure why!!!), and service was great. The space has limited seating, but we were ordering to go. I will definitely be back!!

The first time I ever had a sandwich from Gioia's was a life changing experience. We were in town so my wife could go to a friend's wedding shower, leaving me alone with a car in St. Louis and a couple of hours to kill. Normally, I'd go to a brewery, but this time, I really wanted a true St. Louis staple. I reached out to a friend who lives on The Hill, and he said one place: Gioia's. I got the Original Hot Salami sandwich, a bag of Red Hot Riplets and left for his house. That sandwich was gone in about 3 minutes. I'd never had anything like that. It was incredible, and I knew I had to go back. Fast forward two years to Christmas 2024. After four days of family activities, my wife and I were ready to break out of the house. I was determined to get Gioia's, while she would go to Zia's. I got the Porknado sandwich this time, and it did not disappoint. I ate half of it quickly, saving the other for a few days later (which reheated amazingly.) In addition to the amazing and unique hot salami, I just love the environment inside Gioia's. Most people who go are regulars, which can be intimidating for someone like me who is just an enthusiastic visitor. But the crew at the deli is very patient and kind, even walking me through a couple of questions. The deli was pretty crowded, but my food came out in under 10 minutes and we were able to find seats. Before we walked out, I grabbed a package of Summer Sausage to enjoy back in Louisville. It - no surprise - was also delicious. If you ever go to St. Louis and want an authentic local experience, I believe this is a must-visit. I can't wait to go back!

How much indoor seating does this location have?

Maybe 4 seats at a counter by the window, maybe 3 or so small tables. I'm going from memory after being there a few weeks ago, I won't be mad at any corrections.

I had to visit Blues City as I heard they have great Po Boys...and they do. I am used to having oysters or shrimp on a Po Boy. Not here. They are basically served with many versions of meat. I had the Benton Park Po Boy and it was incredible. The sandwich has ham, roast beef, turkey, provel, and is dressed with lettuce, tomato, pickle, onion, pepperoncini, sweet red pepper sauce on french bread. My wife, being vegetarian had the Panino Fresco. It included mozzarella, provolone, dressed with homemade olive salad, tomato, onion & Italian vinegar oil on an Italian roll. This was the first time in 26 years that she finished the entire sandwich. I had a bite of hers, and it is easy to see why she she finished it. So good. I even bought a memorable t-shirt as I loved Blues City Deli. The female counter person was so friendly. She even wrote down three other restaurants to try while we were visiting St Louis. One Saturday I took my kids to Kirkwood park and decided to stop in at Vitale's on the way home. I'm so glad that I did! The shop isn't anything fancy, there is a counter inside and then a handful of tables outside. It is primarily a to go joint which is pretty standard for delis. It gives off the vibe that you should just stroll up from the neighborhood and grab something to eat, chat for a while with other locals, and then head home. It has a nice, no frills vibe that I really enjoyed. The sandwiches are pretty typical for an Italian Deli with most of them featuring variations of lunchmeat. I'm always a sucker for meatball sandwiches though so that is what I got with a side of chips. It was outstanding. The meatballs were GIANT and they were the right texture. It was large enough that I had to split it across two meals. The owner was really nice when I was inside and talked to both of my kids.
