I love a good sandwich and tried Gioia's for the first time after an appointment nearby. I ordered the 9" Hot Salami on the garlic cheese bread with pickles, a little mayo and mustard. Maybe I messed up on what I put on it but I didn't really enjoy it. I only ate half of the sandwich when I normally eat a whole sandwich if I like it. I know a lot of people love this place and I don't knock them for it. My search for an epic, delicious sandwich continues....

Always the best sub shop to stop at. Polite and clean with lots to choose from. Give them a try if you want local authentic Italian subs

Grabbed lunch here and brought it back to the office and this was an incredible sandwich. First, if you order online, you go pick it up on the side of the building and ring the doorbell to the window. Great so that you don't have to wait in the lunch rush line. I ordered the spicy daggett and added lettuce and oil and vinegar and I ate it so fast! It was the perfect amount of meat and giardinera. I also forgot to take a picture of the cookie, but the cookies are large and so tasty. Service was fast despite how crowded it was for a lunchtime rush in the summer. I loved it!

I ordered the Hot Salami and Roast Beef Sandwich on white bread with mozzarella cheese with pickles and I had it toasted. My sandwich was awesome. Delicious ingredients and well executed. We sat outside in the shade and there was a steady breeze which was nice. Very friendly and helpful staff.

Gioia's is SO flippin good. I've lived across from The Hill since 2017 but only recently started going to the Gioia's near me; I always loved visiting their downtown location close to my pre-covid office. Today, I stopped in to pick up a hot roast beef for lunch, to go. It was easy to place my order at the kiosk, but I chose to place it with the cashier since no one was in line, and frankly, because he's always a delight to talk to. I ordered the small size roast beef with Swiss and au jus, but when I got home I was wondering if they accidentally gave me the large because it is SO much food. The beef wasn't gristly or fatty, and the bread was the absolute perfect consistency -- just bite after delicious bite. The wheat has little pieces of sprouted grain that I love. Honestly, you just can't go wrong with this place. So good. I kind of wonder if it might be my favorite place on The Hill!

Fast and friendly service! It's also in an adorable part of town, we loved how there were Italians flags everywhere over here! They have indoor and outdoor seating, you can order on a tablet or with a desk gal. Both options were convenient! I had the hot beef sandwich. It was so soft and delicious. We also tried the potato salad which was packed with flavor and the potatoes were cooked just right. And the pickles were delish as well, and I am a pickle connoisseur. They weren't too strong dill, not too sour, perfect crunch.

We had a second memorable visit to this over 100-year-old deli in the Hill, after a morning at the zoo. This time was a Tuesday lunch, and there were somehow no lines (bonus!). The workers were very friendly. The regular turkey sandwich was a satisfying lunch, and I recommend a toasted bun. I also had pepperoncini's, which I find indistinguishable from yellow banana peppers. We ate outside at a picnic table on a beautiful Spring day. Looking forward to our next visit!

In the heart of "The Hill," an old St. Louis Italian American neighborhood, you will find this gem of a sandwich shop. The long line is not like a TSA line because everyone is happy excited and no one has luggage. At the end of you wait is a patient cashier who has lots of options but maybe to start go with "Original on Italian, 6 inch "approximately" with everything and mustard" Actually there are three kinds of mustard and the horseradish mustard goes well with salami. Hot salami is the acme of sandwiches. They have Coke Zero as a fountain drink and some pretty good local potato chips. 11 minutes away from Ted Drewes for dessert.

This was the most delicious surprise. That Lenten fish sandwich is fantastic and a hoot! Who would guess that cod would be so well complimented in a sandwich by mac and cheese and riplets?! The bread is a star. They know how to handle the out- the- door crowd... service quick and pleasant. Outside seating with your sandwich, chips, maybe a house salad, and soft drink. What a yummy surprise!!!

Stopped into Gioia's Deli on The Hill and finally tried the Hot Italian Trio--and wow. Absolute perfection. The bread was warm and perfectly toasted, the meats were tick cut with that classic Gioia's flavor, and the whole sandwich had the ideal balance of spice, melt, and crunch. Service was fast and friendly even during the lunch rush, and you can feel the history and pride in everything they serve. It's one of those spots that just hits every single time. Limited seating inside

This was a truly old fashioned Italian deli and the sub sandwich was wonderful! I've never had mortadella before (and probably won't have it again - no Italian delis within a hundred miles of where we live). It was delicious! The sub was so flavorful and sitting outside in the spring in that quiet little neighborhood was delightfu

Regular original hot salami on toasted wheat bread with pepperjack cheese, giardiniera garnish, and spicy mustard sauce: Unwrapping it released a strong wheat smell from the bread. The sandwich was hot but not too spicy. Perfect for a cold day, but also enjoyable for a nice summer snack. There were 3 generous slices of salami which was unlike any salami I've had before. It was thick, tender, and juicy. The sandwich was loaded with peppers and tasted so good that when I looked down I had already eaten the whole thing! The girls behind the counter are friendly and say welcome in to every customer.

Gioia's is a great deli in STL! The sandwiches are delicious. I got take out and it didn't disappoint. A few tables inside to eat.

How much indoor seating does this location have?

Maybe 4 seats at a counter by the window, maybe 3 or so small tables. I'm going from memory after being there a few weeks ago, I won't be mad at any corrections.

This time, we arrived at 6:30pm on a Friday night and were sat at a table in the main thoroughfare. The ambiance was poor and it was so loud that we needed to shout to be heard. We ordered the caramelized cauliflower appetizer which was drowning in cream sauce and so smothered in cheese that it no longer looked like a vegetable. It was too rich for us. They were considerate to give us plates to split the scampi style shrimp, which was well cooked. However, the grilled beef tenderloin and potatoes were very lackluster. We'd asked for medium rare and the kitchen must have been rushing as it was still raw in the middle. We tried to get the server's attention, but they were very busy and we gave up. A particularly strange and rude interaction from our server when collecting the check left a bad taste in our mouths. I was glad to see their popularity but disappointed at how it decreased the quality of our experience. Unfortunately, we had an unpleasant time overall. If you are planning to go, I recommend choosing a less busy time for a better experience.

We started with the toasted ravioli, and it may have been the best I've ever had. Crispy, flavorful, and perfectly cooked. Our party of four was thrilled with every entrée. I ordered a veal dish with a side of pasta, and it was absolutely outstanding. Everyone else ordered pasta dishes, and there was plenty of "oohing" and "ahhing" at the table with every bite. The portions are huge, so we're all looking forward to enjoying the leftovers. Service was friendly from start to finish. Our server was warm and attentive, although things moved a little slower than expected, and it took a while for our entrées to arrive. That said, once the food hit the table, it was clear the wait was worth it. The restaurant has a wonderful history and old-school charm, though the dining room could probably use a little refreshing. We also stopped at the bar before dinner, and unfortunately that was the biggest letdown of the evening. The presentation and flavor of our cocktails were surprisingly disappointing--they looked and tasted more like drinks from a budget hotel bar than from one of The Hill's iconic restaurants. Thankfully, the incredible meal more than made up for the cocktails. With so many outstanding Italian restaurants on The Hill, we've been fortunate to try many of them, and Cunetto House of Pasta has firmly earned a spot in our personal Top 3.
