    Turkey Special - Whole
    Money F.

I've tried Amighettis Turkey Special twice and I enjoy the sandwich! It's not your typical mayo, tomato, pickle; It's more of a hoagie style sandwich with the oil, shaved onion and pepperoncini. That's what I enjoy! It's a fresh sandwich with just enough toppings and freshly baked bread. I haven't visited the location yet (because I door dashed both times) but it's the closest thing I've had to a hoagie here and I'm a fan.

I've lived near the Hill all my life, but I've never been to Amighttis. We decided to give it a try tonight. I used to shop at the old Hanneke hardware store and wanted to see what it looked like now as a restaurant. It was nicely decorated, but a little generic. I had had a really good sandwich earlier in the day, so I decided to try the Tortellini (meat). It was OK, but for $14 I was expecting a larger portion. It didn't have a lot of flavor for a restaurant on the Hill. My wife got their signature sandwich and it was a little embarrassing. It was on chewy bread with very little meat and lettuce. They were out of a lot of things- cream for Cannolis, meatballs, turkey, several sodas. This was the day before the Fourth of July, so maybe that explains that though. I doubt that we'll be back. There are too many other great places to eat on the Hill.

I went here to get their bagels. This place has different variety of bagels. I ended up getting their blueberry, garlic, cinnamon raisin and jalapeños and cheddar. The dills cream cheese is interesting. There were not as many staff here so it did take sometimes to get the bagels. Parking was street parking.

Was in town for an afternoon. On the recommendation of, and accompanied by, a world traveler with a proclivity for, I'll be nice and call it "safe" food (not one to trip the culinary life fantastic and push boundaries or get adventurous), made our way to this well run, spacious establishment. The lady behind the counter was grandmotherly in her insistence to try more than merely a sandwich (she stopped short of physically escorting me to the cheesecake area near the back, but I did, despite not wanting cheesecake for lunch, as an alms for being an out-of-towner, venture round the back). I admired her salesmanship, if not her persistence. Ordering was easy, they have a special sandwich, I'm getting the special sandwich. Despite the word "special" being thrown around, and not to blast an institution (if that's what Amighetti's is) but the sandwich was right up the guy who's rec we ventured in upon's alley. It was ok, mediocre, safe. The bread almost annoyingly flaky. The meat was pretty well covered up by the bread. Eating it was, well, a chore that left a mess of flaky crumbs as though the sandwich had exploded and for very little tastebud reward. This doesn't happen often, but a quarter of it went uneaten and not taken for later. The taste was kind of muted. Nothing popped. The St. Louis standard I'm measuring it by, and not to give the competition a nod, was far superior. And sure, that joint (Gramophone) offers an Italian amongst many others, but Amighetti's is more for the institution than the cuisine.

Amighettis catered an event I went to Friday night and I was a little worried based off of some of these Yelp reviews, but I thought the sandwich was fresh and delicious! The event had 4 types of sandwiches to choose from that were cut into thirds (meatball, turkey, salami, & veggie) along with a couple of pans of salad. The sandwich had two well seasoned meatballs with enough sauce & cheese to make it a bit messy but very flavorful. I thought the bread was fresh and yummy. Salad with dressing lacked a little pizzazz but I'm sure it would have been much better tossed in the dressing - totally understand why they didnt coat the salad in dressing since it was for a group. Would def be happy to eat here again.

    Tomato soup. Toasted Ravs

Traveling bands always ask, where's a good place for toasted Ravs? People often say, everywhere. The correct answer is Amighettis. This casual dine in or take out place is my preferred choice for easy access, unassuming, affordable, good Italian lunch (and dinner). Plenty of street parking around the neighborhood and you don't have to fight with traffic as you would closer to center of the hill. I can't begin to list the menu (long), so you'll just have to go try them for yourselves.

We are trying to venture out and try restaurants that we haven't tried yet. I have always heard wonderful things about Amighettis so we decided why not give it a try at it's newer location. They are located in the old Hanneke Hardware building and did a great job on restoring it for a restaurant. When we walked the tables were all empty, which should've been a pretty good sign for us. As we had not been there, we weren't sure really what to eat. Reading through the menu I saw 'the sandwich that made us famous' so I thought, why not? I ordered the Amighettis Special. When they brought it to the table, I really didn't see anything too special about it. It had very little sauce on it actually very little of anything on it. When I got home later, I was looking at an article from feast magazine about it and that sandwich looked pretty good, which was supposed to be mine. Clearly mine was not made just like this one. I had no pickles and no pepperconcinis on mine as I did inspected every layer of mine to see what was on it. It definitely could have used more of everything on it for their special famous sandwich. Especially the famous sauce. They were out of a lot of things no meatballs, no cannoli filling and a few other food items. Went over to the soda fountain which I really appreciated they had both Coke and Pepsi product, but as we started filling our soda cups, a lot of them ran clear and they were out of the sodas. Took a couple of tries to find one that actually worked. Our first experience here did not go quite as we had hoped. For a restaurant that is on The Hill you certainly expect it to be exceptional or at least pretty good.

Egg & Cheese on Salt Bagel
    Michelle L.

My review is for the bagels. I ordered an egg & cheese sandwich and 2 other bagels. The sandwich was decent but short on flavor. There was some toast on the bagel so I guess that helped it. The other 2 bagels were dismal and I couldn't eat them. No crust, no chew, too puffy, etc. They were bread not bagels. I could have possibly eaten them if they were scooped out and toasted but 1. I don't think anyone here knows what that is and 2. You shouldn't have to do that to a fresh bagel. A fresh bagel has a crisp exterior and a dense chewy interior. This isn't it! I ate at C and B Boiled Bagels when it was open and these do not taste like those or any other bagel.

Nice place and good food this woman is however a little bitter and rude.

This was our first visit to this location so we were excited to try it. While ordering, we encountered a rude employee, Pam. Our request for a side of pasta was rudely denied without explanation or kindness. We were taken back at the lack of courtesy. Despite her behavior, the food was good and the environment was clean. We'll be back but hope to have a better experience.

Great lunch spot! Tons of sandwiches and salad options. They even have all of Hanks Cheesecakes flavors- what a treat. Tried the large Amighettis special salad with grilled chicken and it was delicious. The dressing is phenomenal. My husband tried the meatball sub and loved it. Both super fresh and came out quick. We got Oreo cheesecake to top it off and it did not disappoint. 10/10. We will be back!

Amighetti Special (w/o tomato or pickle)
    Richard S.

I've been to this place and always liked it. It has come back to The Hill (right close, practically The Hill), and now in the old hardware store. I could give the place 5 stars...and maybe I will the next time, as I try more things...but I try and (not) be too loose with my 5-star ratings. The thing about this place: They use a different sub sauce....but dang is it great! A mayo base...but then...has dill and mustard...who knows what else...is it killer! Bread is quite good...fresh tasting meats. This place is a winner....get there...

Great place for lunch or dinner. I have many wonderful memories of eating an Amighetti's sandwich with friends and families for important life events. This was our first time trying this newly opened location. We are very glad to welcome them back to the city! The sandwich and pasta selection options are as we recall. My husband likes the Special Sandwich. I opted for pasta. Both were good. The bread seems not as crunchy or chewy as we recall, but still very good. I enjoyed a salad with my lunch that had a generous amount of cheese and some olives and artichoke hearts which were tasty. Big change is that Hanks Cheesecake is available for dessert in addition to cookies and cannolis. Street parking. Large bathrooms but there is a raised threshold which would be difficult to negotiate with a wheeled device. There is a ramp to the side door.

My 4 month old side eyeing that meatball sandwich
    Elaine S.

Love the special sandwich. If you've read some of my previous sandwich shop reviews, you'll know that I love a good proportion of ingredients on a sandwich and Amighettis gets it right! A great combination of fresh meats, veggies, pickles and peppers, and their sauce (what is this sauce?! It's addictive). My husband had the meatball sandwich and he loved it. I had a few bites of the meatball sandwich and it surprised me because I had the meatballs at the Yelp elite event one week earlier and thought it was a tad salty and too firm. Neither was the case today. The bread on the meatball sandwich was warm and fluffy - such a welcoming bite - the sandwich was loaded with sauce and cheese - ooo the cheese made the sandwich scrumptious. The new location is spacious with lots of seating. It was pretty busy during lunch on a Tuesday but service is so friendly and efficient, and we got our food relatively quickly. Looking forward to another visit soon.

Is this the place to get the true, original Amighetti's Special?

Of course. It is available at any of our locations, and also at many off-premises events if you order catering or catch our mobile team (for example, at the balloon glow in Forest park, or Twilight Thursdays at the Missouri History Museum).

To be a last minute find a place... that was close by, easy to get into and DELICIOUS! This place checked all the boxes. We went in around noon. We bought parking close to The Arch but it didn't start until 2 PM so we were trying to time it just right. We were here just over 1 hour. It allowed us plenty of time to eat and drive time to Arch parking. It wasn't on purpose but we both ended up with chorizo. I had a chorizo bowl with sunny eggs. I did want some fruit so I ended up with a side of fruit and 2 biscuits. The biscuits are droolworthy; Not enough places make biscuits like that. My wife ordered the chorizo omelet. She loved it but had plenty to take for leftovers. They have a small parking lot but we parked on the nearby side street and didn't have an issue. I thought we'd have to wait for a table but we didn't have any wait. Maybe this is a hidden gem of St Louis. It certainly is to us because it was so tasty. Not only were we not granted an exception on the checks as consolation for not being able to order french fries, there was no indication that this had even occurred to our server. This is precisely the level of temerity we need to inculcate in young women in our society, and I'd encourage her to apply for a job at the women's-only sports bar a few doors down if and when it ever opens. It'd be tragic if she wasn't there if and when I return, but I'd appreciate the fact that she has a greater mission. Hopefully, the deep fryer is working. It being out of commission naturally limited the number of things on the menu we could order. We were only told that we couldn't order anything that required a deep fryer, not given a modified menu or anything. I started going through each item and imagining how it might be prepared, but I couldn't muster the psychological bandwidth to continue. Hit my Cash App if you appreciate the amount of unpaid emotional labor I was compelled to contribute. It occurred to me that I might just get a burger and a side salad, but then I saw that they carry a club sandwich. I love a good club sandwich, and I figured it might make for a light, refreshing alternative, given the weather. There's an option to get a cup of soup for $1.50 extra as a side with your sandwich (no, they didn't offer to eat the charge), and I figured that might go well with my sandwich. I was kicking myself when they brought out someone else's order with the side salad. It looked really good. The Frisco Burger, or whatever they're calling it, looked good too. Meanwhile, the BBQ Beef & Cheddar Soup--the soup du jour (that's French), according to Flo--looked gross, like something your dog might cough up. But damn it was good! It was more beef than anything else. A large bowl of it might actually be too much food. (I'd still eat it, natch.) The overall flavor profile was along the lines of a good french onion soup. It was a reminder that I need to be ordering soup in restaurants more often. I wish the club sandwich was cut into little triangles and fanned out on the plate in some elaborate configuration, like at a place where rich old ladies have lunch, but I guess that wouldn't have been in keeping with the theme. Instead, it was served on the world's thickest Texas toast, with the world's dullest steak knife protruding from its center. This sounds like hyperbole, but I may have honestly been served the equivalent of half a loaf of bread. It was much more bread than I required, but at least it was fresh and delicious, as were all the other ingredients. Turkey used for sandwiches is almost never remarkable, but this was surprisingly great, as good as anything you'd get served as an entree unto itself. Nothing about this place suggests that it would have such good food, but it just goes to show you can't judge a book by its cover. The decor, the overall vibe and the lack of hospitality might not be for everyone, but don't let that deter you.

We thought we had to wait for a long time, but it actually went quick (like 5 minutes) when we got there. We did not realize this place had an upstairs, until our waiter guided us. This place looks very large on the inside compared to what it looks like on the outside. The restaurant also had an rustic atmosphere. With exposed pipes, rusted decor, and 80's memorabilia on the shelf. We ordered coffee here, and one of them came in a Christmas cup. Even though it was six months away. My wife chuckled on how they served her coffee in a Christmas cup. Mine came in a plain white cup. But I still excessively chuckled on how funny the menu is and the staff are. The staff are very attentive to how your food tastes and make plenty of funny jokes with you. They also are very descriptive on what the specials on pancakes and omelettes are. As well as being very honest. I ordered the Benny's Got Beef Or Belly with Brisket. I know, long name. The hostess/waitress was very nice when she got to me, but you could tell that the amount of customers was simply too much to handle. Now, this was okay - I should have made a reservation, and it's not the staff's fault they were overwhelmed. However, the service once I sat down was patchy, delayed and distracted. I had to remind different servers of my presence, multiple times. I was willing to overlook this if the food had been fantastic, but unfortunately, their most popular item, the combo breakfast sandwich, was so incredibly heavy. The first bite was crispy, oily and fatty deliciousness, but by the third bite it was simply too rich. The sweet overtone of the honey was lovely but did not cut through the grease. By the time I finished half, I understood why several diners had left the other half uneaten. My personal preference is for a fresh, umami yet balanced sandwich that does not make me feel queasy after finishing it. This was not the sandwich for me. There was a long delay after I finished eating for them to bring me the check. My whole meal took around 2.5 hours. I had arrived starving and, I like to think, with an open mind. These are my honest, unfiltered observations. It is wonderful that so many people want to try their food and that their new space is bigger. Their decor, glassware and menu were cute and tasteful. I also love that they grew from a farmers market food stall and that they source their ingredients locally. With their level of popularity, I think they should focus on preserving the quality of their service and food.

We enjoyed breakfast out on the patio and enjoyed it despite the construction out back. I think they may be adding on a patio for more outdoor dining. They had some Awesome specials and ways that you can get the best of both worlds. My friends and I got some comfort foods but also enjoyed their special of apple pie French toast!!! It was AMAZING!!!! Literally tasted like a desert not a French toast! I got the barn breakfast I believe where it's just you know, bacon, eggs, and toast. It was absolutely delicious. Eggs are made to order over medium just like I like the sourdough was nicely buttered, and the bacon was cooked perfectly!!! my best friend and I both had very clean plates!! the coffee is also delicious and nice touch. A very big portion struggled to finish my whole cup. I didn't get a chance to go upstairs for the merch part. But I will when I return again. This was an annual best friend brunch. I feel like we were taking up too much time of a table sadly with how busy this restaurant was. When we really wanted to catch up more. But we all understand the business so didn't over stay our welcome, maybe we will try a less busy time also. This place is absolutely adorable. They have inside seating outside seating. They have a cute little counter. They have pies. They have delicious looking desserts along list. The one negative was I guess there was a line for the bathroom.. but you can only do so much with the space you have. We all really enjoyed our brunch at this lovely place. I feel it is a very good best kept secret.

I was a little bummed we couldn't get a table, but we were able to sit at the bar. So if you don't make reservations, they will get you in. The biscuits and gravy are either for you or they're not. I like them, but it's not something I would order every day. The charcuterie board was very good, but almost came off as a little basic for the price. The eggs Benedict was excellent, and the potatoes were the star of the show. The most simple food, but it was by far one of the biggest surprises at how tasty they were. I 100% recommend.

And the happy hour is crazy good! On a nice day there is nowhere nicer than the patio and tonight the happy hour was GLORIOUS. I do like sitting inside as well but with this weather you couldn't make me go inside. I have had brunch here quite a few times, dinner too, but as I said today was happy hour. That means the burger. It is absolutely one of the best I have had. I take it as offered but love that they always ask if I want modifications. Look at that burger! And the shoestring potatoes are marvelous too! We had the chips & cheese and olive appetizers to snack on as burgers were getting made and we each had a cocktail. Love that the service is attentive and friendly (Brian was great tonight). But also love that I never feel rushed to turn the table over. And the happy hour from 5-6 means that burger is close in price to tha burgers at Shake Shack and I guarantee you will enjoy this far more. I have had great dishes of all sorts here but I sometimes have to give in to the burger... it never lets me down!

My day drinking BFF and I needed to kill time before the restaurant we were set to have lunch opened. So we thought cocktails at Bowood would be nice. We got two stools at the bar and settled in. Once we glanced over the cocktail menu, we knew what we wanted. We're both Espresso Martini fans, we each got one. Seeing an espresso machine behind the bar, I glad to see they use "real" espresso in their martini. I got real excited when he grabbed my favorite vodka, Tito's as the base. Watching his masterful skills as he prepared our cocktails was pure entertainment. We were both impressed with the presentation of our martinis. They are served in vintage styled glasses. It was the best Espresso Martini I have had since, Harvey's in midtown closed. The martinis were so good, we thought we'd have a light nosh. We both like pistachios so we ordered a, Pistachio Brown Butter Tea Cake and shared it. The bartender also recommended it. His description was spot on. With an excellent martini and a pistachio tea cake, I may have told the bartender that I loved him. We finished our drinks and I settled up our tab in celebration of my BFF's B-Day. Walking out, both of us said, we're definitely coming back.

Side bar breakfast sausage is a sage sausage not traditional so be advised if that isn't your thing. I've been meaning to eat southwestern-themed breakfast food since I saw the legendary "chorizo and…read moreeggs" scene from the movie Midnight Run. The opportunity finally presented itself when a member of my old man's bicycle group suggested this place for a Friday afternoon lunch. I was more than happy to step away from my responsibilities for an hour or two, and the only thing that would have made it better is if I'd been able to disappoint a group of people standing in line, like at the DMV. I'd been as far south on McCausland as a shopping center near the intersection with Manchester, for a drug test for a job, which I'll have you know I passed with flying colors. Consulting Google Maps on the way to the restaurant, I was surprised to see that it's on (er, kinda on) Southwest Avenue. Does it serve diner fare with a southwestern flair due to its address, or is that a mere matter of coincidence? According to a guy I know, who knows several people who work there (don't be jealous), it's the latter. Certainly, you wouldn't put a restaurant here for the ambience. This looks like the kind of place where you'd ditch a stolen car after using the backseat for a fried chicken dinner that somehow involved ketchup (why?) and an assignation with a lady of the evening. If you live nearby, I guess it's not off the beaten path, but who lives here? The menu is a veritable plethora of riches. You could have breakfast food, or you could have lunch food, even if you couldn't bring yourself to roll out of bed until after 10:30 AM. It's downright anxiety inducing! I toyed with the idea of a torta or a burger, and I also saw that they had milkshakes. I ended up going with breakfast food, because I love breakfast food and I don't get it as often. Specifically, I went with something called the Rocket to Bacon Land. It's a bacon and goat cheese omelet with arugula and caramelized onions, served with home fries and your choice of bread. I could have gone with various kinds of toast or a sopapilla. I went with a biscuit. It was amazing! It looked like something your mom would make with Bisquick when she's feeling especially lazy, but it tasted great. It may have been better than the biscuits at Popeyes--which is pretty much the highest compliment you can pay a food item. The omelet was also pretty good. I appreciated the generous helping of eggs, which must have run them, thanks to a certain individual who shall not be named. It was definitely an egg-forward preparation. The arugula didn't seem to add much, as I suspected, and I don't know that the bacon or onions were present in sufficient quantities as to be truly dominant. The goat cheese was definitely a choice. It was warm and soft (ahem), but not melty the way you'd expect cheese in an omelet to be. I liked it, but I don't know if I liked it as much as a regular ol' Denver omelet. I'm a close-minded individual. I buy vanilla ice cream for the taste. Would I feel the same way, to varying degrees, about everything else on the menu? There's only one way to find out.
