1/2 Meatball and Lasagna!
Shawn V.

This is a STL classic place that you have to watch what you order since there are some really good and then some things like the Tomato bisque and it just did not look good nor taste good apparently. I got the Meatball 1/2 sandwich and lasagna and they were both good! I think for 20 bucks it needed bigger meatballs. Lasagna excellent taste and super chzy!! Great place to go for lunch and their original sandwich is a must!

Turkey special

Amighetti's is always a hit, love the turkey special with everything. Wish the baggy of chips was larger and the sandwich fillings didn't squeeze out as you ate, but that's a small price to pay for delicious.

A St. Louis tradition born on The Hill... a famous Italian immigrant community in the City. The fresh baked bread, quality meats, peppercini and special secret sauce makes the sandwich incredible!

Sandwich

It was very good. Got an italian sandwich, and a salad. Got take out, and the employees were very kind when I went in to pick it up.

Amighettis loaded special with pepper jack. 2 orders of toasted raviolis. Garlic bread.

Today I ordered the loaded special sandwhich with pepper jack cheese and it was delicious. It is a big sandwich that is fairly priced. I also had the toasted ravioli and they were good but could have been better. I always look forward to having them when I'm in St. Louis so these hit the spot but remember them being better. Super crispy but could have had more flavor. We also tried the garlic bread and it could have been a little more crispy for my liking. The service was good but took awhile to come out. Plenty of seating inside and out and they also offer curbside pick up. If you're looking for a good a sandwich I'd highly recommend this place.

Came in on a Friday afternoon, it was empty. The young lady at the register greeted us immediately and was super helpful and patient while I decided on what to order! She told me how the special was the most popular and it was listed the menu as "world famous" she also let me try their signature spread; it was like a mix between mayo and pickle relish, creamy and tangy but it was good. I opted for the "build your own," with turkey, salami and ham. I got my daughter the grilled cheese sandwich kids meal. My sandwich was BEAUTIFULLY PRESENTED; stacked perfectly, ingredients very fresh. But the sandwich itself was nothing to write home about. Literally just... a sandwich. The sauce was barely there, so it was just cold meats and cheese in each bite. I could have gotten the same sandwich from dierbergs or Jimmy John's or something for about $5 cheaper. Maybe I should have gotten it on the garlic cheese bread or something? Idk. But I was not all that impressed. The bread was also soft and fresh, I did enjoy that too. I'm Not sure if I'll be back.

Excellent food and service. The Amighetti's Special and the hot roast beef are amazing. Salads are good too. A St. Louis institution.

Initially, I was asked if we were celebrating and I responded affirmatively - my upcoming 75th birthday. We had a choice of the "Gitto Corner Booth " but declined and opted for a more less restrictive traditional table. When the waiter promptly engaged our party we were made to feel that we were appreciated and joyfully welcomed. After our drink orders, we noticed the waiter continued throughout the evening to monitored us closely for any further assistance. Speaking of the service, the stoic waiter educated our party successfully and explained the specials for the evening dinner selections. When we had adequate time to explore, make our deliberations, we completed our menu choices. I enjoyed the liberty of not being rushed. Our food was delivered to our table hot in an orderly and timely professional manner. The appetizers, entrees, and desserts were delicious and fulfilling due to the generous amounts. When you walk in there's a bar area up front and then the dining room opens up toward the back. It was packed (dinner time). The menu surprised us in a good way. It's Italian but elevated and with a twist, like they took the classics and made them more interesting. The mushroom appetizer was so unique, comes with these big chunky potatoes that worked perfectly. The brussel sprout salad was a 10/10, super savory and filling for a salad. The margherita pizza 10/10. The pasta 10/10. Tiramisu to finish also 10/10. Everything felt like traditional Italian but just better. Quint lil restaurant nestled in the middle of the STL Italian district. The restaurant looks like a big Italian family room and smelled like my G-Ma's kitchen. The staff super super friendly and accommodating. As for the food, it was solid Italian but I wouldn't call it "authentic", but more Americanized Italian fare (albeit the toasted raviolis were as good as advertised). We really like that the staff didn't rush you... Good pacing with dinner and no pushiness to turn tables. The only reason I didn't give 5 stars was the price... $250 for 4 people is expensive regardless of it being STL. While I still contend Gian-Tony's is the best Italian restaurant OTH, MOTH was good and offers an enjoyable dinner experience with friends and family... It's easy to see why they've been a successful family run business for so many years.

My husband said Zia's was wonderful so we booked a reservation for Friday at 6pm. My stepson and his girlfriend were caught behind the train and were 15-20 minutes late so we had to wait for them to be seated, which was tough with our toddler who was hungry. When we sat, our waitress was not even friendly and when I asked if they had a kid's menu and what they had for kids that wasn't just pasta, she snidely said, "Well, we serve pasta so that's all we have". When I said I highly doubted that and all Italian places have something they can make for kids, she eventually said they have chicken, fries, etc. I wasn't impressed with the service, from our welcome to seating and I wasn't impressed with the food either. My portobello ravioli was greasy, my husband's chicken parm was poor quality chicken he couldn't cut through for the fat (he ate less than half of it), and my son's Bucatini was so swimming in sauce that he was somewhat grossed out and only ate about 1/4th and took the rest to go. Portions are big here but they could probably focus on quality over quantity and the staff certainly need more training on treating customers with respect. I would never come back, ever, after the experience we had last weekend. Not worth it when there are so many other options. They had a long wait, so some people must love it, but I don't like to be treated poorly and spend a bunch of money in the process.

My family would do yearly holiday dinners here with extended family. Such a classic, inviting ambiance with delicious, comforting food. But unfortunately the last few visits were not the Maggianos I remember. They've surely been impacted by the economy and many of the changes are due to that, such as smaller portions for higher prices - RIP free pasta to take home. But there are some things that are perhaps creative choices that left me wanting more. A biggie is the change in bread - made just a few months ago according to our server. I adored the crisp on the outside, soft on the inside pillowy loaf you would get along with olive oil, Parmesan and fresh cracked pepper in the past. I was surprised to see rolls and butter brought to our table as the bread service. I gave this new roll a chance but it was overly salty and not very good. The bread was what I look forward to most when I go to Maggianos. Please bring the OG bread back! That said, one of my fave entrees - the spaghetti and meatballs - still was delicious (and I was slightly nervous with a name change in the menu - wagyu meatballs). Service has not been as good either. The Maggianos of yesterday reigns supreme - hopefully Maggianos can make some changes to bring back the original charm and taste they had established for years.
