Cute little place in Webster Groves. Came in for a quick lunch with our out of town guest. This marked all the boxes for us. When you walk in you get a menu and place your order, they then tell you which is your table and your food is brought to you when it's ready. We were four people and decided to split a cheese and a chicken Pide. We also ordered a Brown Butter Hummus to start with. Everything was so tasty. As dessert we also shared a Semolina Cake which was such a surprising mix of ingredients. You could taste all the fresh ingredients that go into all of their food. It brought me back to our trip to the Mediterranean. Absolutely my most favorite cuisine. This place is great and perfect for a lunch or very casual dinner. I will definitely come back!!

They were pretty busy but luckily we got a table by the time it Was our turn to order. For being an order at the counter restaurant, their service is great and speedy. We got our food very quickly. Every dish was flavorful and not a bad price. Nothing was left on our plates. Highly recommend coming here!
Ordered delivery and the food arrived quickly and nicely packed. Portion sizes were solid, prices are fair, and the food is super flavorful and tasty. Can't wait to try more of the menu!

The food here is unbelievable. Everything we got was cooked and seasoned beautifully. Even the chips are delicious! The service was friendly and I was grateful for them explaining all menu items. I appreciated the jug of water so we didn't have to ask someone to fill our glasses over and over. The only downside to this place is the space and crowding. So many people, such little space that we were awkwardly standing to the side waiting for something to open up. Thankfully, the food is so delicious i would brave it again.
Finally got around to trying this place after hearing wonderful things and I was blown away! The Cevapi was succulent and well balanced and the portions are very large. The Brown Butter Hummus has taken over my thoughts for the last two weeks! The passionate staff and authentic ambiance were just the cherry on top! Highly recommend you check this place out!
Yes, it is that good. James Beard Award-winning Balkan Treat Box will almost always pop up when searching for the "best of St. Louis," and for good reason. It isn't overhyped--they deliver on everything. This visit we had the lahmacun, pide, chicken doner, cevapi, and the semolina pound cake for dessert. My personal favorites are still the lahmacun and pide, but you really can't go wrong with anything here. It does get busy, but the service is always friendly and keeps things moving. I highly recommend this place.

Wow fully had a ratatouille scene mentally after taking our first bite of the pide. All the flavors just melted together and to my surprise the crust was stuffed with cheese! Absolutely to die for. The spicy halal chicken totally had no heat and was amazing on the doner. The tea was also fabulous along with the baklava. No notes!
The food is not as authentic as you think but the flavor is there. *see accessibility note If you don't have a togo order, be prepared to get overwhelmed on a busy dinner rush. The line goes out the back door and you better hope a table gets flipped in time for you to eat. I got the fish sandwich. The bread and fish had a smoke flavor but needed assistance from the sauce. It would better with some of the cabbage on it. The cabbage also needed more pickling. The house chips were great and had enough flavor. I also tried the "bread pudding". It was tough and more like a french toast and not at all soft. The whipped cream and sour cherries were the best. Accessibility note: This restaurant is not accessible. The "accessibility" entry is clunky and requires a lot of assistance to manage. The back staircase has railing but more than 4 steps. The front entry could be accessible if they lay ramp concrete to remove the small step. Also the Main Street patio seating completely blocks the sidewalk so wheelchair and walker users would have to enter the street. The newest award for the owner made the food hard to live up to, but I want to return.
Outstanding flavor and quality of food !! I ordered chicken Doner - spicy halal chicken in somun with onion, cheese, cabbage, tomato, lettuce. It was served with Balkan chips. Superb quality and great service.

I ordered the Beef Pide, topped with the ajvar and kajmak sauces and fully loaded with herbs and the Sopska salad as a side. It's every bit as good as you've heard. Also, I knew it would be a gut-buster, so that one order served as lunch and dinner (I ate at 3:30 pm). Overall, cute place, casual vibe, great colors and cool fired oven. Staff was great and friendly.

Went during Friday lunch rush so there was a little of a line to order. Super cute decor. Small patio outside to eat, that was good for a pleasant afternoon. Food was fantastic!!! Would come back again read more
Okay, so we all know the reviews for the most hyped places aren't always accurate. I get hesitant about highly rated spots because I'm skeptical whether people are being real or just posting for the aesthetic. I've been burned before. But after randomly finding myself in Webster Groves, I've been converted. This has to be one of the best restaurants I've tried in St. Louis. The portions were great. This was my lunch AND dinner, people. And the flavors? I've never had Eastern European food, so I didn't know what to expect, but it didn't matter. Everything tasted familiar and still came together in a way that felt really unique. I also loved the service when I walked in one of the hosts gave me a menu and walked me through everything which was nice because if your not used to a cuisine your not really sure what to expect. Only thing I didn't enjoy was sitting at the community table maybe because I am a little shy and didnt want to sit with other parties as I felt a little awkward. Nonetheless it was so good I'm going back this weekend to bring my friends. read more

It was a long line and almost a full house when I first arrived with my friend. However, as we were closer to the cashier, we were able to spot a seat. Customers come and go, so it made it easier to find a seat. I ordered Pide with a side of chips instead of the cabbage salad. I was only able to finish half as it made me full. I love how warm and comfortable the place is, so it was a pleasant experience to have my meal there. There was plenty of parking at the back so I didn't have to worry about it. read more

I've had this place bookmarked for so long and I've finally made my way here. It gets pretty busy (even when we came before what would have been dinner rush) but the queue moves pretty quickly and seats become available (you grab a table after placing an order). We tried the lahmacun and the pide with the chips. They were both prety hearty and not too heavy. The wood oven gave it a good smoky flavour. The chips were also quite tasty and you can tell the ingredients are thoughtfully prepared! The space itself is quite small and casual but the food does come out quickly. It's a must try if you're looking for something different. I would definitely come back and try the other dishes. read more
There was so much food provided here. They sort of don't know how to operate like a normal restaurant; you enter, order, pay, and then you're seated and get your food off their small menu. It's delicious though. They have specials that vary by the day and I got the Friday fish fry one which was delicious. The cabbage and chips were alright, but the beer they push is pretty gross. Also some of the wood blocks they have decorating stick out; I hit my arm on one not thinking the wall would be uneven and almost dropped a glass. It's in a cute neighborhood thought so I do reccomend hitting this place up. read more
Food that made my brother that wasn't sure what Balkan food was say wow on his first bite of pide.... That's Balkan Treat Box. We went for an early dinner last Saturday since he had been driving much of the day coming for spring break. And as I rattled off where we could go he found Balkan intriguing. We were just after 5 pm. People were there BUT THERE WAS NO LINE. What magic is that?!?! He looked for a while at the menu and I said I needed a pide. We could get a couple of things to share. He handed me the menu and said I should just order. I ordered us the sopska salad, a vegetable pide special -- beets a key ingredient, and chicken doner. The salad came and he dove in fast. As he slowed a bit he said how much he enjoyed the freshness it offered. The pide came next and he was sold! Hadn't tasted anything like it but loved it through and through! He knew he would love the doner by then. And the line of happy people grew throughout our time there. Love that the whole Balkan team is so welcoming and service oriented, even had owner/chef Loryn Nalic stop by to touch base. My brother will be talking about this meal for a while! read more
Came for lunch on my wife's birthday and had a great time. Food was delicious and came out quickly. We shared the 32 ounce Balkin cocktail and loved it! The server was friendly and kept checking on us as we sat and relaxed. Interior is well laid out and there's plenty of seats. Fun place to get great food and enjoy good company! read more

This was by far one of the best restaurant experiences we've had. From the moment we walked in until the moment we were walking out we received a 10/10 experience. We walked in and while in line a staff member came by to explain their specials and menu, and when I asked their recommendation they gladly gave it. When we got to the counter to order the staff member welcomed us and made us feel super comfortable while taking our orders and had small discussion with us and was very personable. Our food came out FAST. This place has a system down and they do all things well. I was amazed at the level of service. Our food was all really good as well. I'm already planning My next trip back to try more of the menu! read more

I had Balkan Treat Box on my list for the longest time and finally made it on a random Wednesday evening for dinner - the wait was definitely worth it! We were shown in right away - you decide on your food, pay first (very decent price point) and are then seated. The service was lovely and the restaurant wasn't too loud despite being quite busy, which was great! I got a beef Lahmacun and my friend tried a chicken Döner, and you bet we wiped our plates clean. The inside of the Lahmacun was absolutely delicious (I highly recommend squeezing some fresh lime juice on, from the quarter that is served with the wrap) and very filling! We left with happy bellies and I'm excited to come back and try more of the menu. read more
YUM! I have been wanting to try this place for forever and it certainly did not disappoint. We went around 12:30 on a Saturday, so we had a bit of a wait but it was definitely worth it. The staff was checking in with us regularly and we even had a nice chat with the chef while waiting to be seated. We started with the brown butter hummus. So good! I could have just ate that for my meal. We also split the ĆEVAPI, which was phenomenal, as well. That would be my recommendation! Although it's a small space, the delicious food and attentive staff made for a great experience. Will be back for sure! read more

My 1st time ordering anything from Balkan Treat Box...Lots of fresh greens & veggies in salad., tooooo many croutons which were greasy.Brown Butter Hummus best item, delicious. 6 pieces of Tofu, dry - hard to chew & much to thin to serve as a protein pairing, Ok seasoning....flavor. Luv the Sumac spice though. Dressing, tasty! Portions ok, Overall value...so-so. The in-house type pita pieces... BURNT,but served/ sent out anyway! Why? Very disappointing. read more
Let's talked spiced meats. In my head, that's going to trigger thoughts of Balkan Treat Box. Kind of dumb name (but I get it, coming from a food truck), stupid good food. Drove up from Memphis for the day. I'd read about this place on Eater and had been curious. After procuring copious amounts of sausage from G&W, we headed over for a bite. This place is really, really well done. The staff is hyper-knowledgeable. I haven't had Balkan before. Greek sure, stuff roasted on vertical spits definitely, but not Balkan proper. I told the guy at the counter what sounded good based upon my review of the menu, he helped narrow it down for there. I got the #1, cevapi, aka little sausages in a massive pita with onions. Well damn. The warm slice of the meat, the buttery taste of the dollop of creamy condiment, the pickled red stuff...put them together in one bite and it's a bit overwhelming but delicious. The pita was most appreciated when sopping up the sausage drippings. The taste I had of the pide warrants this being the thing I order next time. Each dish had a depthy spiced profile. And not the same spice profile on each. The breads are all delicious. Despite all being Balkan, it's the variety that BTB offers that surprised me. So it's a 5 star joint. High praise...this may because I'm new to Slavic meats and spiced meats are my thing. Maybe there's a lot more out there, but for a guy from the land of smoked meats and catfish, the novelty by itself (though hard to discount the execution of each offering) biases me toward BTB reaching 'holy crap, where has this been since I've had teeth' status. I'll be back...and not quickly enough. read more

I can't wait to come back here. I visited here for the first time with my friend and the food was a 10/10. I got the Pide with beef and it was wonderful. The place was really clean and the service was nice and quick. It was a little loud, but I honestly didn't mind. read more
Wow! Food, service, ambiance, everything here was great. I haven't tried many Bosnian restaurants but I will be coming back here for sure. The meat was very flavorful and the texture of the bread was perfect. Only thing was I wish there were more peppers to add the spice to the meal. I'll definitely be back! read more

The food here is always phenomenal! You can't go wrong with anything on the menu! Everyone is also extremely nice. You order at the counter and they assign you a table. It can get quite busy but on a weekday before 6pm there normally isn't a line yet! It can get quite loud and busy depending on the time of day. read more

Service was prompt. Staff was helpful & friendly. Explained menu items if we had questions. Its a counter where you order & then they bring food to you. That's about it. The food was good. Ive heard amazing things. I think i expected more. Its a cute little spot for some ethnic ssandwiches/flatbreads. Decor is colorful. read more

Still blocks the sidewalk with their chairs and tables. There isn't even 2 feet between the last table and the lamppost. If you can't fit you have to cross the street. So let's say you're at the corner and want to get to Imos, but you have to pass Balkan. You can't just go 20 feet from Balkan to Imos, you need to cross the street, go down, cross back over and come back. And those tables are usually empty. Definitely empty when they are closed. I get you want outside tables but at the expense of people being able to walk (or use their wheelchair) seems wrong. Just want my family to be able to walk past Balkan, currently we cannot and have to cross the street to get to the shops on this side. read more
Truly such a gem. The hummus was my biggest takeaway from the whole meal, even though it's technically a starter. So cream and flavorful! I also ordered a pide, which was not only beautiful but really delicious and fresh. My friend ordered the doner which was super filling and packed with flavor. Overall, a solid spot with high-quality comforting food. read more
