I went with a friend on a Thursday night. It was a quiet night so we had great attentiveness from the staff. We split everything. Started with the hummus and housemade pitas and the Sigara Boregi (Crispy filo cigars with feta, ricotta, parsley and dill.) for the main course, we had the Manti (House made turkish dumplings stuffed with ground beef and fresh herbs, garlic yogurt sauce, browned butter). Top Notch! This place has always been a favorite of mine and each visit always surpasses the last. I came here for an early dinner on Sunday and was the first person to arrive for their dinner service. I was seated promptly and immediately given water (always a plus). I took a gander at the menu prior to my arrival, so I knew I wanted a kebab of some sort. Once I got settled, the server came by and took my drink order. I sampled the sangria (which was quite tasty), but decided to go with a glass of Gruet Brut Rose. For dinner, I went with the mixed kebab and got shrimp and chicken. The glass of Rosè quickly arrived and it was smooth yet refreshing. It wasn't long until my food arrived and per usual, my eyes were bigger than my stomach. The shrimp was cooked and seasoned perfectly! The chicken was delicious as well, but let's be serious, would you expect anything less than perfection from Aya Sofia? When I finally had enough, the server came by and offered dessert. Much too full to partake, I kindly declined and he then brought out my check. What an interesting place. First, it seems as if 2 (maybe 3) people were running the entire place on the Wednesday night we went there with 2 friends. The staff were friendly and we were seated promptly. We each ordered a cocktail. They were good; and perhaps more than we expected from a Turkish restaurant. We really didn't k ow what to expect in this regard. We ordered a couple of appetizers (olives and cold meze dish). The red pepper meze was good and the olive tray was very plentiful. For dinner, I had the Eriste (ground meat in sauce over wide egg noodles with dollop of yogurt) and my wife had the Iskender (doner meat over pita with traditional veggies and yogurt sauce). She liked her dish, but I really enjoyed mine. I'd definitely get the Eriste again. Great flavor and the egg noodles provided a chew of sorts. No room for dessert. I also saw a couple of their Pide (Turkish flatbreads). I'd definitely like to try those sometime; they looked delicious and hearty. The atmosphere seemed rather low key; perhaps because it wasn't very busy, so it didn't seem as warm and vibrant as we expected. The low staffing may have contributed to that a bit. Overall a good food experience and we will likely be back. Their outdoor patio seems like a nice place to be in warmer weather, albeit it is literally 25 feet away from traffic on Chippewa, so not sure how that affects the outdoor ambiance. read more

Both our waitress and another server helps with the menu, water and drinks. We were so pleased. They have a wide food selection, both for meat lovers and vegetarians. What we love from our orders： 1. We tried the vegetarian moussaka. It's prepared with eggplant, roasted red peppers and a lot of vegetable goodness. This is light yet packed with lots of flavors. This is our favorite of the night. 2. our second favorite is an appetizer that has cheeses within a flour cigar. Love the melty cheese wrapped inside a crunchy wrap. 3. Came back here again! The place and the parking lot were full on a weekend evening. There is a bank next door, for more parking spot. Food was even better than before today. Their appetizer sampler(hummus, bulghur salad, cigar borek, ezme, dolmas), borek with ground beef, baklava, manti, iskender were all highly recommended. Sad news is they don't make lahmacun anymore. (kind of like thin crust pizza with ground beef) :/ Only thing, I love ayran (yogurt drink) in general but I didn't like theirs - it was too watery, and I didn't like yogurt they used. So we've been here many times, but this time we discovered their Flatbread I love all of the other food, but I had to try one of these. First things first, though... the decor here is very inviting and has a Turkish flair to it. The booths are large and comfortable. Their patio is very too...as long as it's warm outside, that is. Our service was great, and our server really knew his stuff. We started with meat pies. It's hard to explain what they were, other than delicious. Ground meat inside of a puff pastry type shell. Now to the flatbread. The one I got had cheese, sausage, and egg. It was huge. You really could share one with someone or get 2 to try the different ones. My first time going to Aya Sofia after reading reviews on yelp. I have to say the interior design was clean, the booth seatings and the lightening gave an intimate atmosphere . The appetizers selected were the bohça and Babaghanoush. The bohça was so flaky and buttery. The meat filling for the bohça was well seasoned and tasty. I will definitely reoder the next time I come back! Apparently the was a miscommunication with our waiter, he gave us the hummus instead of the babaghanoush. I never had babaghanoush so I couldn't tell the difference from humus. Found out when it was time to pay. The humus tasted like any other humus. The bread was warm when served. For my entrée I went with the Köfte, the Turkish meatball made up of lamb and beef. It paired well with the yogurt sauce. It came with a side of broccoli, I have never had broccoli from other Turkish restaurants, it threw me for a loop. The restaurant has very limited parking. So big groups will have to park somewhere else and walk. The staff were accommodating. He was able to give recommendations and answer questions about the menu .They don't take reservations, so arriving early will be recommended. read more

I have had the pleasure of dining here several times and a review has been long overdue. The food is absolutely delicious and we always have a hard time deciding what to order. With the exception of the Türkish Salad I don't think we've ever duplicated a dish. Most recently, we split the salad, the Ezme Meze Platter, the swordfish meze, and the Doner and Feta Pide. The pita bread that comes with the dips is so fluffy and delicious. The baba ganoush was definitely my fave but they are all amazing. The crust of the pide is fab but we didn't love the filling. Very meat heavy. Swordfish kebab was unreal and I would order it again. The patio is cozy and charming despite being on busy Chippewa. The only drawback is the service, which is slow and variable in level of attentiveness. However, all of the staff is very friendly. Our main was their mixed grill, which had a plethora of meats and veggies with some rice pilaf, our favorite was the kofte! The skewered meats were a touch overcooked, but the flavors were on point!
