You can smell the deliciousness from the parking lot. The best chicken schwarma wrap I've had in this area and I've tried 3 spots now. The wrap is huge with this delicious savory sauce on it. Excellent food and service! The Baba ghanoush had great smokey flavor and it's served with warm pita. I tried the grilled shrimp and definitely would order it again. The sauce is flavorful with a bit a spice. It was such a colorful plate! The rice was perfect and I loved the toasted almonds on top. This was my first time at the restaurant. It has a nice and quaint atmosphere. The seating is pretty close to each other. Our waitstaff was nice and available. He answered all my questions regarding the entrees. I ordered the hummus which had a spicy meat on top, this was served with warm pita bread. The hummus was prepared the way I like, warm and delicious however, the meat on top was not edible at all. I ordered the lamb shish kebabs with rice and a tomato medley. The lamb was tender and pretty good. The rice had no flavor at all. The sauce with the lamb had no flavor either. The charges for the entrees were very expensive. First of all, a couple of disclaimers. I usually do not rate a restaurant based on one visit. I also only rate restaurants that I believe to be 5 stars. It was my first visit to Jafra and it was a 5-star meal. My youngest daughter and I are foodies with the motto "we travel for good food." Jafra was a bit of a trip but was totally worth it. We ordered grape leaves as an appetizer. At some restaurants, the actual leaves are fuzzy and bitter. Not fuzzy, not bitter, and with the best filling I have ever had. I ordered Ouzi which I have never had before. It was a rounded dome of filo containing beef, rice, carrots, peas, and nuts. It was a great mixture of favors. My daughter ordered Shish Tawook which she loved. I tried a bite of it, and while I rarely eat chicken, it would be a dish I would order. Jafra is a pretty little restaurant with a friendly atmosphere. Service was quick and very friendly. My daughter and I do not drink coffee, but we had to try the complementary Turkish coffee at the end of the meal. Warning: It will make you stand up and dance. The restaurant is family owned and run from the host, servers, and chef. The welcome is warm and hospitable. The meal consisted of a variety of outstanding dishes. They serve a delicious falafel. Crispy outside and pillowy soft on the inside. Served with a creamy herb sauce. I especially enjoyed the Turkish salad. This dish is hard to describe but it's fresh with a very nice bit of heat. The hummus and baba ganoj were also very well made. The pita bread warm and crisp. Perfect for dipping and sopping. We tried several different entrees. My favorites were the beef shawarma and the Jafra mixed grill. Both plates had tender juicy proteins. The rice was fluffy and full of flavor. We closed the meal with a balaclava roll. This was a most satisfying end to the meal. *for the die hard STL people who insist good food only exists with in the City Limits, I promise this is totally worth the drive. Wished I ordered the hummus instead of Labneh because it was too sour here. Both of our lamb dishes are decent. I liked the flavor, but the kabab was a tad dry. The lamb was very hard and dry, but it was overpowered by possibly the sauce. It was very tangy and I was just shocked that this item was overall not good. If you have ever been to Jordan or Palestine, you will know what I mean. I love Mediterranean food, and this is some of the very best I've ever had. You feel welcome from the moment you walk in and the service is amazing. It's a cozy spot very unassuming, and the food speaks for itself. they have clearly marked vegetarian options so when I wanted to know what would fit for my diet, it was clearly easy to identify and order. I was able to take our dear friends with us last night and her husband had never had Mediterranean food. He was a huge fan! Driving home in the rain, snow, and sleet, we stopped here for a late lunch/early dinner around 3 pm. We were immediately and pleasantly greeted and shown to a table. Not surprisingly given the time and weather, it was not crowded. The menu had an extensive variety of dishes, many familiar, but a few new (to me) offerings as well. There were many vegetarian options. I settled on the lentil soup and the Za'atar manaqish (flatbread dough with olive oil and za'atar seasonings). It wasn't quite what I expected (softer than anticipated) but it was delicious and went well with the soup. Husband had the lamb kebab sandwich and it was very good. He had a pot of black tea served in a traditional pot and glass. I opted for the baklava with mixed nuts and syrup. Not square like I've had in the past but rolled and warm. Delicious way to end the meal. Traditional Middle Eastern music added to the authentic feel to this family owned restaurant.
