Beef Kobida Kabob
Cleo G.

This food is SO good!! I'd recommend getting the mediterannean side of their menu, since that's what they're known for and good at. I was honestly blown away by how flavorful their food is. I got the Mantu appetizer followed by the Beef Kobida Kabob. The Mantu were SOOOOO delicious and flavorful. The beef was moist, the dumpling wrapper was thin and perfectly cooked, and the sauces on top were beyond incredible. The Beef Kobida Kabob was just what I wanted. It came with an agregious amount of flavorful rice, but it was really good rice so I don't mind. The Kabob themselves were flavorful, my only note would be that I'd like them a bit more moist. The meal comes with a yogurt dill sauce to pour on top, and I elected to have veggies on the side. I will 100% be ordering from here again. (My friends got the Chicken Tikka Masala with naan and although it was good, it just wasn't mindblowing, and again, I think I'd stick to ordering mediterannean here)

The food is incredible here, but the service was a bit spotty. We got there at 5:30, but we didn't even get our check until after 9. There seemed to only be one front of house server. While the food came out at a relatively timely manner, my friend ordered the falafel sandwich, which comes with fries, and they came out with samosas for her because they were out of fries. She didn't get a choice I had the eggplant and tomatoes with a side of falafel. The eggplant and tomatoes (borani bandinjan) was INCREDIBLE. I highly recommend getting the entree version. The falafel was just ok. It was overly fried so it was too crunchy/hard and the internal falafel was dense. There were quite a few tables throughout the night, but it was never overly busy. Pretty steady stream of diners.

Afghan Kabob House is one of the best hidden gems in STL! The simple dishes pack a flavor punch. My favorites are the mixed grill, any of their curries, and their cauliflower.. but honestly, you can't go wrong with anything on their menu! The service is great! They were very patient with our questions and gave awesome recommendations.

Surprisingly so gas. I could've eaten 20 more of their mantu dumplings. The chicken was great. Their lamb was the only thing I wasn't crazy about, oddly enough, but everything was still bursting with flavor. Favorite dishes: Mantu dumplings, chicken kabob

I feel like I need to just squeal again and emphasize how amazing Afghan Kabob House is! They even have a nice covered outdoor seating area where you can bring dogs. Great space!! And LOVE the food! I think my new favorite restaurant in STL!

It was our first time at Afghan Kabob House. My close friend has been here a few times and recommended so we came yesterday for dinner. Parking was easy. Restaurant is clean and spacious. Service was good. The only downside was we waited almost 1 hour for our food. It seemed like they were short staffed. We ordered the bolani potato, mantu, chicken tikka masala, and Kabuli Palau with Lamb Shank. I also got myself Doogh - its a savory yogurt drink similar taste like Ayran but more diluted and including cucumber and dried mint. We were very satisfied with the food here. Everything was flavorful and tasted amazing. Recommend.

came because it was recommended and man thos did not disappoint!! I don't believe I've ever had Afghan Cuisine before but what an incredible mix of my favorite flavors from Indian and Mediterranean cuisines. We got the Mixed Grill and all 3 (lamb, chicken & beef) kabobs were amazing! The chicken is incredibly tender, the beef is perfectly seasoned and the lamb is marinated and cooked to perfection! I also got the samosas, and Mantu (beef ravioli for simple explanation- but better!), and both were excellent! Reviewers mentioned the Tikka masala often so I tried that too and hands down the best I've had! I am over the moon with the flavors and quality and will be back very soon!!!

Guru was my server tonight, and he provided excellent and prompt service. I ordered the leek filled dumplings topped with yellow lentils, yogurt, and mint, and i also ordered the eggplant. You could tell the dumplings were handmade, and they were so delicate when eating them. They had the right amount of spicyness and coolness from the yogurt. They were light and a pleasure to eat. The eggplant was served in a tomato garlic sauce, also topped with yogurt, and was very savory. I enjoyed both dishes very much, and I will be recommending this place to anyone looking to try something new. I also ordered the malai kulfi, which was so delicious and a perfect way to end the night. Thank you, Afghan Kabob House, for the great experience, even on a Monday night! The menu names of the dishes are in the pictures.

An absolutely excellent restaurant! The food is spicy, tasty and fresh! They have breakfast dishes in addition to their lunch and dinner offerings. The service has always been quick and excellent. The ambience is inviting and relaxing. I would highly recommend this place!

Lamb Bryanni

Came here with some brothers and the lamb briyanni was great. The amount for food was on par. The sauces were nice size portions. If they keep this up, they are well on their way to have a repeat customer. There is a halal sign on the front door.

Had an outstanding meal here recently. It's a beautiful space with a very cute covered patio and excellent service. I had eggplant that was excellent. My spouse had lamb kebabs. I don't like lamb but it smelled so good I had to try a piece and it was delicious. I expect to revisit multiple times!

Not located in a place where you would expect a restaurant but so so good. Very reasonably priced and service was great. Indoor and outdoor seating. Street parking only.

Kabuli Palau Lamb Shank

Nice Afghani restaurant in the Lindenwood Park neighborhood of South St. Louis city. The owners are very friendly. I had the Kabuli Palau Lamb Shank, it was delicious. I also had some Mantu (dumplings )and Sambosas (potato and veggie stuffed pastry). Both flavorful. My friend had a chicken salad and said that the chicken was very tender. My other friend had the mixed kebab plate and loved it. The decor is a little sterile. It could use a splash of color on the walls and ceiling. They have outdoor seating in the back and front of the restaurant. Recommend.

My boyfriend said it was a tasty treat for his lunch. I would say for the price it would be nice to get more food.

We usually go as a family of 4 (all adults now; although we started to go when the kids were in high school). We love the Lamb Curry (both my sons' favorite), the Beriani, the Qabelli Palau, and Chicken Teekha Masala. The Sambosas are great starters. The chutney they serve with bbq the Naan is a family favorite. To steal a line from Frank's Red Hot Sauce "We put that sh*tuff on everything ". Finally, when we have room (and sometimes even when we don't), we get the rice pudding. The service is usually good, but not necessarily great. It's always personable and genuine; just sometimes a little slower than expected. Also the place (opened circa 2005) is showing its age a bit and needs a little TLC. It's very clean; it just needs a little refreshening in certain high traffic areas. The takeout/delivery business seemed good on the Sunday night we went there, but the in-store business was pretty quiet. However, it was one of those sub-20 degree nights, so I'm hoping that was the reason for the lack of in-person dining. Go there are experience some really great food and let's keep this gem of a locally owned restaurant in business. Based on food alone on out most recent experience, I'd rate it 5 stars; service and ambiance probably should drag it down a bit, but I'm still going with a 5-star review, because for the food and flavor it produces, it deserves a strong review and some positive energy to keep people trying this great food and supporting this local business.

I enjoyed my Spicy Chicken Soltani kebab platter that came with a spiced biryani rice with raisins and very good. I started with Pashtun salad that was small but fine for the $5 price. The naan bread on the side is different than the typical type of Indian naan but still tastes good. The service was pretty slow and I wasn't in a big rush but was getting ready to walk out after almost 15 minutes of waiting when a server came by. Good thing because 2 more minutes of waiting and I would've been out the door. The restaurant isn't the greatest inside but will do, nothing fancy.

Well, I no longer live in STL and I am finally checking it out. Now that I have, I am pissed at myself that I didn't try it sooner. I stopped by for lunch and enjoyed a Nova Gyro that was served with a side of fries. For a minimal up-charge, I had them add Feta Cheese to mine. When the Gyro arrived, it was super huge. It was so big, I could hardly pick it up to take a bite. I ended up eating part of it as a salad with a fork until I could finally pick it up and eat it like a true Gyro. The gyro meat was well seasoned and tender. It was smothered in their house made tzatziki sauce and wrapped in a warm Pita. The toppings were plentiful and they were; sliced red onion, shredded crisp lettuce, cucumbers and vine ripe tomatoes. Adding the Feta Cheese, was a wise move. It added, an extra Greek kick to the Gyro. My glass of Pinot Grigio was a perfect accompaniment to my lunch. With it being super huge, I took a third of it home and made a salad out of it for dinner. The only negative, is their take home vessels are styrofoam and not eco-friendly. The service was attentive and friendly. My server was training a new gentleman and think he's going to do a great job. I'm already thinking about a return visit, because I need to try the baklava. I mostly order to go from here however (especially in the winter) as their inside dining is a little smaller. The food is always consistently good and their Caprese is one of my favorites in STL. The family that owns it is always so nice (especially the mom and son) so I love supporting this small business. If you are a coffee lover they have the best Arabic style coffee and flavors that are worth going for on their own.
