We started with the Mantu beef dumplings. Amazing. They are little tasty bites with a lentil sauce over the top. I highly recommend. We all had the combination kebab plate (chicken and beef - unfortunately they had run out of lamb). The chicken was my favorite. So tender and flavorful. The accompanying rice was aromatic and a HUGE portion. This is a small, family-run restaurant so take your time, have some good conversation while you wait and know that good food takes time! I visited the Afghan Kebab House Restaurant for my second time and it was still as excellent as the first and has some of the best middle eastern style kebabs in town and very high quality. On both visits I ordered the Mixed Grill plate that comes with three kebabs (chicken, beef and lamb) and on the side was an amazing spiced basmati rice, roasted tomato and a few veggies. My only minor issue with the place is it took a fairly long time to get our food but I'm not usually in a hurry and good food doesn't come fast. This food is SO good!! I'd recommend getting the mediterannean side of their menu, since that's what they're known for and good at. I was honestly blown away by how flavorful their food is. I got the Mantu appetizer followed by the Beef Kobida Kabob. The Mantu were SOOOOO delicious and flavorful. The beef was moist, the dumpling wrapper was thin and perfectly cooked, and the sauces on top were beyond incredible. The Beef Kobida Kabob was just what I wanted. It came with an agregious amount of flavorful rice, but it was really good rice so I don't mind. The Kabob themselves were flavorful, my only note would be that I'd like them a bit more moist. The meal comes with a yogurt dill sauce to pour on top, and I elected to have veggies on the side. I will 100% be ordering from here again. The food is incredible here, but the service was a bit spotty. We got there at 5:30, but we didn't even get our check until after 9. There seemed to only be one front of house server. While the food came out at a relatively timely manner, my friend ordered the falafel sandwich, which comes with fries, and they came out with samosas for her because they were out of fries. She didn't get a choice I had the eggplant and tomatoes with a side of falafel. The eggplant and tomatoes (borani bandinjan) was INCREDIBLE. I highly recommend getting the entree version. The Afghan Kabob House has been in the neighborhood for a while, but we first visited them just recently. We had looked for online information when they first opened, and now the menus, etc. are online, so ordering food to go was super-easy. Their website is beautifully done and very easy to navigate. The employees who handled our pickup were very gracious and friendly, and the food was delicious. Wanting to try a variety of items, we ordered the mixed grill, the lamb tikka masala, and the bandjan. We have absolutely zero complaints; it was all amazing. We want our next visit to be for dining in so that we can get the full experience, but it will also be a regular on our takeout choices. It was our first time at Afghan Kabob House. My close friend has been here a few times and recommended so we came yesterday for dinner. Parking was easy. Restaurant is clean and spacious. Service was good. The only downside was we waited almost 1 hour for our food. It seemed like they were short staffed. We ordered the bolani potato, mantu, chicken tikka masala, and Kabuli Palau with Lamb Shank. I also got myself Doogh - its a savory yogurt drink similar taste like Ayran but more diluted and including cucumber and dried mint. We were very satisfied with the food here. We got the Mixed Grill and all 3 (lamb, chicken & beef) kabobs were amazing! The chicken is incredibly tender, the beef is perfectly seasoned and the lamb is marinated and cooked to perfection! I also got the samosas, and Mantu (beef ravioli for simple explanation- but better!), and both were excellent! Food is AMAZE. We got mantu as a app (18/10 the star of the meal. They are dumplings with this really interesting slick outside, like a potsticker. No idea what was inside but delish, covered in a tomato sauce with lentils and then a yogurt dill sauce) friend got the lamb kebob (20/10 so flavorful) and I got chicken tikki masla (the best I've ever had in 35 years of life. The kebob was just better. Street parking was ample at lunch on Sunday. Space is...honestly you will not care about the space. It's generic. Guru was my server tonight, and he provided excellent and prompt service. I ordered the leek filled dumplings topped with yellow lentils, yogurt, and mint, and i also ordered the eggplant. You could tell the dumplings were handmade, and they were so delicate when eating them. They had the right amount of spicyness and coolness from the yogurt. They were light and a pleasure to eat. The eggplant was served in a tomato garlic sauce, also topped with yogurt, and was very savory. I enjoyed both dishes very much, and I will be recommending this place to anyone looking to try something new. Nice Afghani restaurant in the Lindenwood Park neighborhood of South St. Louis city. The owners are very friendly. I had the Kabuli Palau Lamb Shank, it was delicious. I also had some Mantu (dumplings )and Sambosas (potato and veggie stuffed pastry). Both flavorful. My friend had a chicken salad and said that the chicken was very tender. My other friend had the mixed kebab plate and loved it. The decor is a little sterile. It could use a splash of color on the walls and ceiling. The image in my mind was throngs of people running along side an airplane clamoring to get out! I am so glad we visited the Afghan Kabob House! The place is spotless and inviting. I regret that I didn't take photos of this beautiful food. However, don't let that stop you from going and tasting for yourself. Housed in what used to be a burger joint called Snax, a place I regret having missed checking out, the atmosphere in the Afghan Kabob Shop is underwhelming. Bland colors and plastic accoutrements, the decor belies the color and spice of the food. We had the Kofta soup, an exquisite curry colored soup with abundant flavor and a fair bit of heat, just enough to want the accompanying naan to cool your tongue. The 2 large meatballs were delicate and tender and blended beautifully with the broth. Next was the Borani Bandinjan, a roasted eggplant dish with red pepper, olive oil and spices. Topped with a bit of yogurt. Smoky and flavorful, it was delicious. Finally, we had the Chicken Tikka Kebabs. The chicken is a lovely saffron color, removed from the skewer and served with a yogurt like sauce similar to Raita. It was tender and succulent and I dipped it into the eggplant instead of the yogurt because I'm dairy free. We ordered mint tea to accompany the meal and it is served in a charming glass pot with matching glass cups. The service was fine, the server kind and knowledgeable. The dough is light and, the fillings are seasoned, and the dumplings are dressed with chick peas and a garlic yogurt sauce. We've also had the samosas. They have a spicy potato filling with a delicious mint chutney. My only critique is the dough is a little thick. The lamb biryani is great. Fragrant and spicy rice - and lamb - and the lamb is also very tender. I highly recommend the Sabzi if your looking for a vegetarian dish. Make sure to get it with the rice. She recommended the chicken kabob (I don't eat lamb) and her recommendation was right on! The chicken was so juicy and savory, and the seasoned rice was a good addition. Went to the Afghan Kabob House tonight and were super impressed with the food and service. It was 6:20 on a Tuesday evening and we were pleasantly surprised to see several tables of diners present and they had To Go orders being picked up- definitely a good sign for a business especially for one which is only into their second week of business! The decor was very clean and the booths very comfortable with traditional Middle Eastern music playing in the background. Our waiter came up and was super polite and accommodating and more than happy to answer any questions about the menu. We ordered their Mantu for our appetizer. The beef dumplings were covered with a creamy Red Lentil yogurt sauce which was super tasty-only regret; we forgot to order some naan so we could have sopped up every drop of the sauce! The Chicken Biryani was very spicy and flavorful! A nice amount chicken is found throughout the mound of fragrant Basmati Rice. Bone warning: You will find some chicken bones in this dish, but any cook will tell you cooking the meat on the bones especially in rice dishes enriches the taste of the dish. The Beef Kobida Kabob was tasty and filling as well! The Basmati Rice is seasoned well and cooked with slivers of carrots and plump raisins which added just the right touch of a slight sweetness to balance with the seasoning of the rice. The beef was super tasty with a nice balance of spices and the kabobs were not dried out as I have had in some Middle Eastern restaurants in the past. The salad was very cool, crisp and fresh! Not sure what it was dressed with but it was super light and super refreshing and if it wasn't dressed with a dressing then all I can say is they must a magical touch! I noticed people coming in as we enjoyed our meal as well as more people walking in to place orders to go as well as people people calling in pickup orders which again, tells me that the Afghan Kabob House will do well! So ordered carryout from there first time last night. Had the Chicken Tikka Masala, which was outstanding. The spinach dish and potato Bolyani were some of the best food I've had in St. Louis in a long time. The seasoning in the spinach is a perfect blend of savory and just a little spicy. And the Bolyani, a warm potato filled bread, was amazing. I'll go back for just those two things and can't wait to try the rest of the menu. And the staff are just as friendly as the food is good. If I had to nitpick, the naan was a little disappointing. Cold and a little chewier than I prefer. And they missed including the chutney I ordered with the Bolyani, but that could have been just the result of me asking questions on the phone and not being clear enough.
