    Mom's Special

Welcome Back Mom's Deli! The new location is open and ready to serve the classic deli sandwiches. So happy to see them back since they are still serving some of the most delicious sandwiches known to exist! Thankfully, the new location has A LOT of tables to enjoy your food inside which is really nice. They do have some challenges to work out, however. We had to wait outside to get in and order so there is not a lot of room to wait and order. Plus, there are 2-3 doors to get in so it is a little bit of a train wreck to find the right spot. Then, the fountain soda was not working and they were about sold out of bottled sodas. Lastly, you had to hop out of line to grab your soda and chips so they could scan them at checkout. With all that said, the line still moved fairly fast and everyone is super friendly and happy to just be back! Quite frankly, I was excited as well, and hence the 5 s for knowing that this will be back and running like a top, in no time!!

This was our first time going to this place. We got two deli sandwich and side of potato salad and pasta salad. The sandwiches tasted great to me. The breads were freshly made. The meat is of better quality than other sandwich places. I liked the potato salad more than the pasta salad. Our dog Chloe also was able to sit with us at their patio seatings. I did not go inside the shop, my boyfriend did the ordering and obtaining the food. The line seemed to move at a decent pace from what I saw while sitting at the patio area. There were customers coming to order mostly take out the whole time we were there on Sunday afternoon.

I recently visited STL for a work trip. Coworkers living in the area brought me and some other out of state work friends to Mom's Deli for lunch. There were a lot of sandwiches on the menu that sounded great. I decided on the parmesan chicken sandwich. It was good! It wasn't dry or overly sauced with marinara. They did microwave it to make it hot, which meant it didn't have that fried crispy texture I typically enjoy on chicken parmesan. The sandwich was a lot though! I could barely finish half. I grabbed a bag of chips from a shelf and a bottled beverage from the cold case. I also picked up two bags of cookies to pack in my suitcase. It's quaint. Inside is small, all the seats are outside. There aren't a ton, but there are enough for a small lunch crowd.

Line was out the door so we were excited to try. The order counter/check out system seems a little odd but very typical of a little mom and pop shop. Look at the menu before you go so you know what to get. They don't have a large menu that lists out ingredients in store. No seating inside, only outdoor tables. We took ours to go. Sandwiches were good. Bread was a little chewy. Our favorite was the meatball. Great flavor of the sauce. Would go back but not rushing back.

Omg! This place was just like I remember it from when I was younger. Everyone is so polite when you walk in, and they listened to me reminisce. The mom's special is so delicious with an extra side of 1000 island dressing to dip the chips in. They do have a couple tables outside if it isn't too hot, but the inside is a typical deli. Go there if you are in South St. Louis, you won't be disappointed!

If you have seen any of my other reviews you can probably guess I'm not a big "sandwich person". I'm more of a "full meal person". That said I've been taking a family member to medical appointments right around the corner from here and every time we drive by the place is packed. We knew we had to try it out! We popped in today and had no idea what to order so we both ordered a sandwich and we shared them so we each were able to try 2! Family member ordered Mom's sandwich. It's a cold deli meat sandwich and it was DELICIOUS! I ordered Ron's sandwich with is a hot salami - I opted for the spicy mustard with it - also delicious! The inside is very much like a corner store - chips, snackies, drinks and you can walk up to the counter to order a sandwich and/or soup. The sandwich line moves very efficiently! I liked that they had an outside patio and we took the opportunity to sit in the sun and eat our sandwiches there. There was a STEADY line of customers flowing through the entire time we were there (it was afternoon 1-2pmish). If you like sandwiches, stop in here and check them out!

I was looking for a sandwich while traveling through STL and found this place on Yelp. While it looked good I was very disappointed once I got my food. The sandwiches were very basic and lacking anything special. The toppings were bland. The service was awful very rude from the moment I walked in. I've worked in the food service industry for quite a bit of time so usually I'm very forgiving of those who are also in the industry, but these employees had no obvious excuse for their rude treatment of customers. I got the Salami sandwich which with veggies. The sandwich was nothing special I was hoping for an Italian meats sandwich but there was no such option. The prices for what you got also seemed very steep considering what you get.

Mom's deli was my first meal of choice after I delivered my daughter! We got the mom's special and the poor boy. They are the quintessential cold meat deli sandwich (in the best way). The bread is a tiny bit tough and chewy, but you can tell it's fresh. The mom's special has homemade 1000 Island dressing on it that is absolutely delicious. The poor boy has a tangy mustard-mayo dressing in it. The restaurant is located on Jamieson and offers ample street parking. They have a few outdoor patio tables for seating when the weather is nice. They also offer local billy goat chips! The inside is part deli/part convenience store. Service is quick and friendly!

On my quest to find the best sandwich in STL, I had to stop at this much-discussed establishment. This place seems to elicit strong polarizing opinions - from loyal denizens claiming it's the Lou's gift to all sandwich-dom, to outright rejection of this timeless classic. My lonely opinion will not tip the scales in any way, but I offer it regardless. Does this place offer the best service? No. How about high quality ingredients? No. What about being one of the best sandwiches I've sampled in the city so far? Also no, but I recommend it wholeheartedly regardless. This place is like a time capsule, slinging out the same sandwiches they have for decades, contrasted humorously by the local high school students working the diner counter discussing tik tok. The bread is soft, chewy, and mediocre, but houses enough cold cuts to feed a small family for a week, and I could eat the homemade 1000 island dressing straight. This average to mildly above average colossal sando is also couched in one the price to filling ratios I've seen, making me feel guilty for walking out with borderline theft. I will 1000% be back for a Mom's Special (double meat, extra sauce, add banana peppers) many times in the future as this becomes a staple of my St. Louis diet.

Service was friendly, food was really good. Had the meatball and a roast beef with gravy. Had an issue with one of them and they fixed it immediately. Would definitely come back and try something else. Plenty of street parking available and a nice place to eat outside

The mother of all delis? Definitely a St. Louis staple here that I hope stays for the next 100 years. Their prices are great and so are their sandwiches. The moms special is really tasty. I love all their sides here the vegetable pasta was fantastic and about $5 a point. Can't wait to try the buffalo chicken sandwich here!

Decided to head to South City to try Mom's Deli. Several people had recommended it to us. It is not close to us (driving wise) but it doesn't hurt to venture out. We ordered a Moms Specisl, Roast Beef and Philly and a Turkey and Chedder. The place is a small convenience store will a heavy sandwich menu. Trying to decide was a little nerve racking so we just went with the popular choice. All sandwiches were good. The bread is fresh as well as the meat (cut fresh to order). We loved that they put Philly Cream Cheese on my Roast Beef dipped in Gravy!! Try it.. so good. Note: I am giving this 4 stars based on Food only. The young staff working need a little training on Customer Service. No eye contact felt rushed and they were a little unfriendly. A STLPD officer was behind us and we wanted to pay for his order.. the checker stated "well they get theirs free" which I thought was wonderful!! I hope you do not change that policy.

I really liked the decor and the cool vibe. We ordered the spicy chicken katsu Sando and it was delicious. The meat was juicy on the inside and crispy on the outside. The Sando came with the side of fries. We got the togarashi fries and they were so addicting. Fries were not as crispy but very well seasoned and went perfect with the aioli sauce. We also tried the pork katsu rice bowl. I didn't like the sauce as much as the chicken Sando but it was still pretty good. I liked that the rice was well-cooked. You must try their ice cream. I would have come just for it alone. They have a good variety of flavors. My favorite was the miso taro and the yuzu caramel. The staff were very nice to us and the food came out quick. The staff were friendly and very accommodating to adding or removing ingredients from sandwiches. I had Joes Italian Kicker with the homemade artichoke salad. The artichoke salad was so good. The dressing was sweet but not overly so. I am not a fan of sweet Italian so for me to actually like this item kind of amazed me but it truly was good. I did not get the tomato sauce on my sandwich, and it was far from what I had convinced myself it was supposed to be lol. I am not a fan of brats and sausages and such but I do like salami. I convinced myself that it was going to be sliced garlic and red wine salami and well that wasn't what I got but I do like to try different things so I wasn't disappointed. The sausage was amazing. So flavorful and enjoyable... again a surprise because as I said, I am not a fan of this type of sausage. Now the giardeneria, it is delicious but it says hot for a reason. It was a little too hot for me but once I removed a bit I could grab little bites with my sandwich and it was less of a mouth burning experience. The cheese and cheese garlic bread the sandwich comes with is absolutely a flavor bonus. overall this was a great meal and I enjoyed it thoroughly. Now my dining partner got meatballs and pasta salad. While she wasn't a fan of the meatballs to the point where she raves, she did say they were good just not great! However she did very much like the pasta salad. She only wished there had been less black olives. Lastly, we did ask for to go boxes for our salad Because the portion was extremely generous and we couldn't eat all of either... we started to get up to go get the containers and a staff member saw us rising and took care of getting the containers for us which was very sweet. I would like to say that a lidded bowl would be better for salads because all the dressing leaked out of the styrofoam box but that was really the only disappointment.

I stopped in to pick up a pork loin because I was around the corner, looking for ~3-4lbs of meat. They only had a 1 1/2 pound in the case (order taker weighed it to confirm before going to the back, which should've been my first warning) so I asked if they had any larger ones. They were nice enough to check and offer to cut one. That's where things went downhill. After waiting 5 or 10 minutes, my order taker came back out to ask how I wanted it prepped (bone or boneless, skin on or off). I said skin off and ambivalent on the bones. This was my mistake, leaving my fate to the hands of someone profit motivated. I walked out with just about a 3 pound bone in roast, which is maybe half a pound more meat than the one and a half pound I turned down - not enough for my guests and I. Had I gotten a roast closer to 4lbs, I would've been unhappy with the price but not enough to write a review. Additionally, they only charged a dollar less for bone in. At $15/lb, I effectively paid the price of their beef for the meat after accounting for the bone. I felt tricked. In hindsight, I should've just turned it down when I saw the price, but I was a bit too shocked to say anything. So I paid my bill and swore that I wouldn't be coming back for anything but (maybe) sausage again.
