Mom's Special
John K.

First time going to their new location on Hampton. I ordered the Mom's Special. It has turkey, ham, roast beef, mozzarella cheese, lettuce, tomato, pickles, hold the onions, and thousand island dressing. Delicious sandwich. It was very filling. I ate half at lunch and the other half at dinner. The sandwich is packed with great flavors. They have several tables so you can enjoy your sandwich right there. The restaurant is very casual and ultra friendly.

I had certain expectations for Mom's. I wanted this to work well for them. I finally went in and ordered 2 Mom's specials and they were fantastic. We ate them on Halloween instead of an Imo's pizza as usual. I was still concerned that people are waiting outside to order inside. People wait in a single line when there is plenty of room to sit at a empty table or stand inside to take your order when it is your turn. I would like to see a sign either on the doors for people who ordered on line and just want to pick up their order I met folks who stood in line for 10 minutes just to pickup an order she did not have to wait for. Perhaps a second sandwich maker could be available or have someone present asking "If anyone had an order to pickup go to the otherside to pickup your order". I was hoping that the old Dado's drive up window would take care of that. I think it is blocked by racks of chips. Maybe in the near future it will be utilized. I like that they expanded the area were the bar was and have a lot of table space and prep area. It is bright and airy. I do recommend this restaurant.

Welcome Back Mom's Deli! The new location is open and ready to serve the classic deli sandwiches. So happy to see them back since they are still serving some of the most delicious sandwiches known to exist! Thankfully, the new location has A LOT of tables to enjoy your food inside which is really nice. They do have some challenges to work out, however. We had to wait outside to get in and order so there is not a lot of room to wait and order. Plus, there are 2-3 doors to get in so it is a little bit of a train wreck to find the right spot. Then, the fountain soda was not working and they were about sold out of bottled sodas. Lastly, you had to hop out of line to grab your soda and chips so they could scan them at checkout. With all that said, the line still moved fairly fast and everyone is super friendly and happy to just be back! Quite frankly, I was excited as well, and hence the 5 s for knowing that this will be back and running like a top, in no time!!

This was our first time going to this place. We got two deli sandwich and side of potato salad and pasta salad. The sandwiches tasted great to me. The breads were freshly made. The meat is of better quality than other sandwich places. I liked the potato salad more than the pasta salad. Our dog Chloe also was able to sit with us at their patio seatings. I did not go inside the shop, my boyfriend did the ordering and obtaining the food. The line seemed to move at a decent pace from what I saw while sitting at the patio area. There were customers coming to order mostly take out the whole time we were there on Sunday afternoon.

I recently visited STL for a work trip. Coworkers living in the area brought me and some other out of state work friends to Mom's Deli for lunch. There were a lot of sandwiches on the menu that sounded great. I decided on the parmesan chicken sandwich. It was good! It wasn't dry or overly sauced with marinara. They did microwave it to make it hot, which meant it didn't have that fried crispy texture I typically enjoy on chicken parmesan. The sandwich was a lot though! I could barely finish half. I grabbed a bag of chips from a shelf and a bottled beverage from the cold case. I also picked up two bags of cookies to pack in my suitcase. It's quaint. Inside is small, all the seats are outside. There aren't a ton, but there are enough for a small lunch crowd.

Line was out the door so we were excited to try. The order counter/check out system seems a little odd but very typical of a little mom and pop shop. Look at the menu before you go so you know what to get. They don't have a large menu that lists out ingredients in store. No seating inside, only outdoor tables. We took ours to go. Sandwiches were good. Bread was a little chewy. Our favorite was the meatball. Great flavor of the sauce. Would go back but not rushing back.

Omg! This place was just like I remember it from when I was younger. Everyone is so polite when you walk in, and they listened to me reminisce. The mom's special is so delicious with an extra side of 1000 island dressing to dip the chips in. They do have a couple tables outside if it isn't too hot, but the inside is a typical deli. Go there if you are in South St. Louis, you won't be disappointed!

If you have seen any of my other reviews you can probably guess I'm not a big "sandwich person". I'm more of a "full meal person". That said I've been taking a family member to medical appointments right around the corner from here and every time we drive by the place is packed. We knew we had to try it out! We popped in today and had no idea what to order so we both ordered a sandwich and we shared them so we each were able to try 2! Family member ordered Mom's sandwich. It's a cold deli meat sandwich and it was DELICIOUS! I ordered Ron's sandwich with is a hot salami - I opted for the spicy mustard with it - also delicious! The inside is very much like a corner store - chips, snackies, drinks and you can walk up to the counter to order a sandwich and/or soup. The sandwich line moves very efficiently! I liked that they had an outside patio and we took the opportunity to sit in the sun and eat our sandwiches there. There was a STEADY line of customers flowing through the entire time we were there (it was afternoon 1-2pmish). If you like sandwiches, stop in here and check them out!

Italian Salami with veggies

I was looking for a sandwich while traveling through STL and found this place on Yelp. While it looked good I was very disappointed once I got my food. The sandwiches were very basic and lacking anything special. The toppings were bland. The service was awful very rude from the moment I walked in. I've worked in the food service industry for quite a bit of time so usually I'm very forgiving of those who are also in the industry, but these employees had no obvious excuse for their rude treatment of customers. I got the Salami sandwich which with veggies. The sandwich was nothing special I was hoping for an Italian meats sandwich but there was no such option. The prices for what you got also seemed very steep considering what you get.

Poor Boy

Mom's deli was my first meal of choice after I delivered my daughter! We got the mom's special and the poor boy. They are the quintessential cold meat deli sandwich (in the best way). The bread is a tiny bit tough and chewy, but you can tell it's fresh. The mom's special has homemade 1000 Island dressing on it that is absolutely delicious. The poor boy has a tangy mustard-mayo dressing in it. The restaurant is located on Jamieson and offers ample street parking. They have a few outdoor patio tables for seating when the weather is nice. They also offer local billy goat chips! The inside is part deli/part convenience store. Service is quick and friendly!

Mom's special, double meat. Add banana peppers

On my quest to find the best sandwich in STL, I had to stop at this much-discussed establishment. This place seems to elicit strong polarizing opinions - from loyal denizens claiming it's the Lou's gift to all sandwich-dom, to outright rejection of this timeless classic. My lonely opinion will not tip the scales in any way, but I offer it regardless. Does this place offer the best service? No. How about high quality ingredients? No. What about being one of the best sandwiches I've sampled in the city so far? Also no, but I recommend it wholeheartedly regardless. This place is like a time capsule, slinging out the same sandwiches they have for decades, contrasted humorously by the local high school students working the diner counter discussing tik tok. The bread is soft, chewy, and mediocre, but houses enough cold cuts to feed a small family for a week, and I could eat the homemade 1000 island dressing straight. This average to mildly above average colossal sando is also couched in one the price to filling ratios I've seen, making me feel guilty for walking out with borderline theft. I will 1000% be back for a Mom's Special (double meat, extra sauce, add banana peppers) many times in the future as this becomes a staple of my St. Louis diet.

Service was friendly, food was really good. Had the meatball and a roast beef with gravy. Had an issue with one of them and they fixed it immediately. Would definitely come back and try something else. Plenty of street parking available and a nice place to eat outside

The sandwiches are good. The service is quick and it's a great deli. The best sandwiches are moms or a hot reuben.

I stopped by on a Sunday just before a rush, so I was able to get my food ordered and made promptly. I just had the spicy chicken katsu sandwich and fries, which was very good. Particularly with the sheer amount fries in the box, you could easily split it. I do want to eventually come by and try one of their desserts, but I was absolutely stuffed after my food, so I did not indulge this time. Considering the serving size, I think the price is very reasonable. It's not a huge menu, but sometimes that's just a sign that they only make what they know they can do well. Highly recommended

The only thing I expected a bit more from was the bread itself. Since it's a sandwich-focused spot, I thought it would be a little more memorable, but it definitely didn't take away from how good everything else was. Don't skip dessert either. We tried both the Choc Oreo Taiyaki and the Nutella Taiyaki (those fish-shaped waffle things), and they were the perfect sweet finish. Can't wait to come back and try more of the menu!

It's an old-looking sandwich joint on the Hill. Very little wall space visible due to the Berra and family tributes. Seems like the kind of place that should smell faintly of cigarettes decades after anyone smoked in the building, but it's actually clean and cool. The communication could have been better. Upcharge for my choice of bread. No prices are provided on the menu. Sandwiches, sides, and a drink for 2 people for $35 was much more than we anticipated. I wouldn't mind returning, but my wallet would have something to say about it. This is at least somewhat the fault of inflation... but with prices not posted in the restaurant, I wonder whether the prices vary. Maybe we paid a higher price as we attended the day of the house tour. Maybe not.

Everything's high-quality and poor value after accounting for the price. I stopped in to pick up a pork loin because I was around the corner, looking for ~3-4lbs of meat. They only had a 1 1/2 pound in the case (order taker weighed it to confirm before going to the back, which should've been my first warning) so I asked if they had any larger ones. They were nice enough to check and offer to cut one. That's where things went downhill. After waiting 5 or 10 minutes, my order taker came back out to ask how I wanted it prepped (bone or boneless, skin on or off). I said skin off and ambivalent on the bones. This was my mistake, leaving my fate to the hands of someone profit motivated. I walked out with just about a 3 pound bone in roast, which is maybe half a pound more meat than the one and a half pound I turned down - not enough for my guests and I. Had I gotten a roast closer to 4lbs, I would've been unhappy with the price but not enough to write a review. Additionally, they only charged a dollar less for bone in. At $15/lb, I effectively paid the price of their beef for the meat after accounting for the bone. I felt tricked. In hindsight, I should've just turned it down when I saw the price, but I was a bit too shocked to say anything. So I paid my bill and swore that I wouldn't be coming back for anything but (maybe) sausage or a snack again.

At first I thought no way are these $8 fries going to be that good but they really were spectacular. The house made ketchup with them too made it really unique!‍ I also ordered some breakfast sausage to make with biscuits and gravy at home since the meats case was filed with a great selection. A plus is they also have a parking lot with dedicated spots too if you wanted to dine-in.
